Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

Hi everyone

good to read everyone is doing fine.

30ish I agree, think the lump will be milk duct but its good your Doctor is referring you.

MDM I love lists too so rewarding when you can cross items off and once baby is here its so easy to forget the most basic of things.

Tomlin congratulations on getting your allotment, I am not green fingered at all so am especially impressed by those that are.

Pamelat hope your DD is settled tonight. My DS woke on Thursday night and was sick then spent a few hours awake, the next day reminded me of what the newborn zombie sleep deprivation feeling is like.

memorylapse · 07/03/2010 01:32

DH has had to take DD2 (5) to accident and Emergency after her temp hit 40..Im sat here trying not to go mad trying to think of baby girl names..so far have Olivia, Freya and Grace

brightredballoon · 07/03/2010 08:52

Are they back now ML? How is your DD? Those girls names are lovely. I am so convinced this baby is a boy that I haven't even thought once of a girls name!

My DS (2) has been off his food past couple of days and has had the most awful of nappies, last night he was sick again then went to sleep no problem but this morning was sick after having a mouthful of breakfast and then again after having some diluted squash half hour ago. Hope its not this awful winter vomiting bug....

sweetkitty · 07/03/2010 09:37

Morning all not much going on here having a nice quiet weekend as we have been so busy recently nice to take it easy spend time with the girls etc. I have been so immobile and sore this weekend, seems to be getting worse I get so frustrated as I cannot do simple things and dread going upstairs etc am v grumpy with it as well, poor DP who is runnign around doing everything as it is.

ML - how is your DD? Been following things on FB, what a fright for you. All you girls names are lovely I think I like Olivia best, love the nickname Livvy as well.

brightred - hope your DS is better today too.

Tomlin - at your 3 hours of pampering I SO need to get my hair sorted out as well, it was long before then after DD3 was born I got it all chopped off as well as it was so lank and in bad condition, I didn't like it that much so am in the process of growing it gagain but it so needs cut and I quite fancy getting something done with the colour too.

pigley - one thing I do miss about living down South is Bluewater (or my spiritual home as DP used to call it!) I don't think DD3 understands at all about the baby, I am a bit worried about her actually as she is very possessive of me, if I cuddle the other two or they sit on my knee she goes a bit mad and either tries to shove them off or has a mega tantrum, I don't know how she will take to me feeding a baby a lot. I don't think DD1 batted an eyelid when DD2 came along but she's nowhere near as fiesty as DD3.

30ish - I agree with the others about lumps and bumps but always good to get things checked out.

Pamelat - hope you had a better nights sleep alst night, all I want to do right now is sleep am so tired and anything getting in the way of that is a disaster.

marquise - just trying to think of things I wasn't told before the birth. I hadn't used pads since oh about 14 either and it was a shock too. You do bleed a lot in the first day or so and it's big clots as well (sorry if TMI) I remember asking the MW if it were normal and she said it was. Funny thing is my bleeding has got less each birth too wonder why that is. DD1 was born in July in London v hot Summer and I remember sleeping in feeding bra and pants with big pad and boob shells as my nipples were agony, coupled with the jelly belly it was all glamour - not! G-strings after birth even the thought makes me wince.

Agree with ML about sleep bras for straight after. I bought a couple last time beforehand as you don't know what size you are going to be, then afte a few weeks treated myself to some nice Elle Macpherson and Hotmilk ones. First time I had those awful Mothercare ones, white (turn grey v quick), huge so you cannot wear strappy Summer tops and you can see boob pads through them. Awful. My advice is if you are BFing for a while get some nice bras.

Boob pads - I have tried them all lol even those Lilypadz things, if you go down the disposable route you will use LOADS of the things. I will buy a box to start with but then I use Boots washable ones. Oh and normal to wake up in the middle of the night in a pool of milk soaked right through to the sheets (didn't get told that either) so you need to sleep on a towel to start with and keep a spare bra/pads and top to hand for a quick change.

It's all glamour isn't it

memorylapse · 07/03/2010 11:41

BRB..hope your DS recovers soon and its just a 24 hour thing.

SK..sorry to hear you are in so much pain..SPD is horrible..Im not quite as bad as you..but walking is very painful and getting to sleep at night is interesting

DH and DD are back..poor DD has tonsilitis..but it had come on really quickly..she was given a double dose of calpol which brought her temp down so that she perked up quite a bit..DH said the nurses all wanted to take her home

DD cant get over the fact that she had to wee into a cardboard pot..she seems quite tickled by this! Shes a lot brighter today although in pain so not eating..she has some anti biotic solution which she doesnt like taking..there were a few tears this morning over it. Thank goodness its only tonsilitis though..all kinds of worse case scenarios went through my head last night..meningitis etc. The DR has told DD she has to have a couple of duvet days!

right off to get ready for work..which I could do without as Im dead on my feet

myfirstbump · 07/03/2010 12:26

Sounds like everyone's having lovely weekends. I was working all day yesterday on a rare weekend event and my hips sort of packed in when I got home Well, at least I got my tea cooked for me!

Thanks for all your support. I know things are never going to be the same, but still people enjoy telling you. I don't mind really, I know it can be weird for people sometimes - they feel like they should say something about you being pregnant, even if there's not really anything interesting to say.

Just ordered the cotbed and changing unit for Baby's room. Am getting very excited about decorating now. Poor DH isn't going to get much rest until it's done.

Cupcake - I'm thinking salon visit for foof maintenance beforehand too!

30ish - I got referred to a breast unit about 8/10 weeks ago when I had a lump in my armpit. Turns out, when they did an ultrasound on it (I almost asked them to check on Baby at the same time but thought better of it), that I have stray breast tissue under there... Apparently it's nothing sinister and will probably go away after the birth, but I was so stressed at the time. I'm sure it's all just hormonal, but like the others say it's good to get it checked. Hope it all goes ok.

Anyway, enjoy what's left of your weekends everyone. I'm off to enjoy having the place to myself for the afternoon.

pamelat · 07/03/2010 20:06

30ish better safe etc but am sure it will all be fine. I noticed that my breasts got lumpy after DD was born and was milk duct related. The milk bit (not very technical!!) will have started by now so am sure its all normal. Can imagine its stressful though.

ML hope daughter is ok?

I think there is something going around as 3 of my friends have poorly children and DD has a temperature (but not too high) and has been sleepy/fretful/hot all weekend.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 07/03/2010 20:20

ML - hope your DD2 is OK, sounds scary. Is she feeling any better this evening?

Pigley - DD does the thing where it looks like she settles as well. Just as we've got to the door and started to breathe a sigh of relief, she'll sit up and giggle at us

Tomlin - congratulations on the allotment! How long did you have to wait for it?

BRB - hope your DS is feeling better.

Re post birth bleeding - I only knew about the clots afterwards from MN. I had one that was huge in the hospital afterwards, about the size of a grapefruit. Completely normal but a bit freaky!

I think on the last antenatal thread I was on we had a list of useful things to know that no-one tells you otherwise - maybe we could start one of those again? I found it really useful IIRC. Stuff like tips for after the birth, extras for hospital bags, weird medical things to expect etc.

Hobnobfanatic · 07/03/2010 20:21

I've put a request to join FB, but not heard anything - have I contacted the right group?

Can't believe the weekend is almost over - it's whizzed by. Managed to get to a NCT nearly new sale at the weekend. Got a few bits, but we arrived about an hour after the start and much of the stuff had gone!

9 weeks to go. Got quite a shock on Fri night, out with friends, when one said that her first DD was born 10 weeks early. I REALLY must pack a bag, start a list of plans for DD's care, pet care, sort out the nursery, find a name, blah blah!

Sorry for no personal replies - got to go to bed!

memorylapse · 07/03/2010 20:54

thanks to everyone for asking after DD..she is still a poorly bunny but at least doesnt have the scary temp she had last night

Hobnob...I think only the admin on the FB group can see friend requests and thats Pigleychez..maybe she hasnt logged into it lately?

mustbemadno3 · 07/03/2010 22:13

30ish hope you ok? Please let us know how you get on at b unit. Hopefully its just hormonal changes that have caused any lumps. But best to get checked out.

pigley I hate my drs too....do we have the same one!? Problem with ours is there are so many drs there that they dont know your history properly other than looking at a small piece of info on the computer screen.

memorylapse glad your dd ok, so know that feeling when you sitting waiting to see whats wrong with them and all sorts go thru your mind. My ds2 did have meningitis/septecemia 2yrs ago. Made a full recovery but left him with epilepsy. Wasnt expecting it as he was 7 at the time. I used to think its an illness you get either really young or as a teenager. Anyway not too freak any of you out on here, turns out he had a problem with his immune system and thats one of the reasons he got it.

Question this is really gross ,embarrassed, but I have had quite a leaky bladder thru most of pregnancy. But since Wed night I have been dripping like a slow tap, been wearing a pad and settled bit sat but today its been awful and really gross, but its quite a strong smell. (think tom cat spaying) so sorry, Im so embarrassed to write this and I will ring m/w but been putting off talking about it as seen so many diff m/w i dont feel comfortable and I was going to mention the g.p I saw about my ds2 on thurs but she was such a cow that I decided I wouldnt mention my little problem.
Has anybody had or having similar problem....so sorry!!!

pigleychez · 07/03/2010 22:14

Finally sitting down after Ironing a huge pile of clothes, plus round 2 of babygrows/clothes. Didnt know we had so much!! And we gave loads away!

ML- Glad DD is on the mend now. Love the name Olivia, sadly here its sooo popular that she would be one of many in her class. Thinking of it for a middle name though.

Heffa- I think I still have that list saved on my laptop. Would anyone be interested in seeing it? If so would it be best on here or on the FB group?

Hobnob- I did accept a few people recently. Check your profile page. The group is Mumsnet May 2010 babies.
If not try it again... give us a clue on your FB name.

Enjoyed the sun today with some gardening, The border out by the front drive was full of weeds but looks so much better now. Was nice in the sun but the wind was alittle chilly. Abit of sun makes so much difference to my mood!

TomlinTowers · 07/03/2010 22:15

Hi everyone

Had a manic day today! Went out to get some new shoes for DS1 - which he will no doubt grow out of in about 3 months time, long before they are worn out, grr. £30!! And he is now a 9F - at 2 years 9 months! He will have huuuuge feet by the time he goes to school at this rate! Then went out for lunch, which was lovely, and then spent all afternoon at the allotment to start digging the ground over. Well, Dad and DH did the digging, DS1 kept picking up worms and bringing them for me to look at, and Mum and me sat on the bench planning what we would grow for the summer. Heffa - we have been waiting about a year for the allotment, but it is a fab plot - we turned down a couple of manky ones that were too shady, too near hedge, miles from water, etc. Can't wait to get out in the garden now, and get my bedding plants out!

Hope everyone else has been enjoying this lovely sunny weather, even if it is still freezing!

ML - glad your daughter is feeling better.

SK and others with SPD - sorry you are having a tough time. I have v bad back, but at least I get some respite when I can get sat down propped up with cushions, but to have pain all the time must be v wearing.

Tips for post birth - take flip flops for the shower/bath - mine was disgusting and I had to try and clean it out before I used it with my shower gel, and then after I had used it. Gross. Oh, and hospitals are really, really hot, or at least they are if they are anything like mine, so babies will only need sleeveless vests to wear over nappies whilst in hospital. Just take one or two babygros/hats/socks for taking the baby home because if they wear them in the hospital crib they will boil! You can wrap them in their blanket if they ever feel cool, but I have to say DS1 spent his first 24 hours absolutely boiling hot because I insisted on wrapping him in all the clothes I had bought for him!

Hope everyone has a good week!

sweetkitty · 07/03/2010 22:49

mustbemad - please go and get checked out could be an infection and don't be embarrassed, I have a dodgy bladder as well just now, have to wear pantyliner pluses as they are called, a good cough or sneeze will do it or I think I am finished the toilet then a little finds it's way out

pigley - am in awe of you ironing and weeding. DP is doing ours just now, he's very slow bless him. I am getting so frustrated not being able to do anything I know it's only about 8 weeks or so to go but am totally fed up with this pain, took 2 cocodamols tonight just to have some relief, cannot take them during the day because they space me out a bit with the girls it's not good.

Tomlin - a 9 already wow, DD2 is a 9 and she is 4! DD1 is a 10 at 5 as well and DD3 has been a 4 since she started walking. Sounds like your allotment is a lot of fun.

memorylapse · 07/03/2010 23:19

mustbemad...do go and get checked out..it sounds like an infection..I dont want to scare you but I went into prem labour with my last baby due to an untreated wee infection..

Tomlin..my dd has size 9 feet too but she is 5!

AnAngelWithin · 07/03/2010 23:19

evening all. hope you are all ok!

ML hope dd is better soon x

mustbemad i had that a few weeks ago. you haven't been drinking orange juice have you? I find that makes me, ahem, leak and makes it strong too.

I started knitting a little white cardi for the baby yesterday. Just finished it this evening. Quite pleased with it. Been a few years since I've knitted anything!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 08/03/2010 07:52

Pigley - I found the list really useful, so maybe here's a good place to post it. I used to have it saved but changed my laptop. We can probably add to it more easily on MN.

Mustbemad - I'd get that checked out. Could be nothing but you don't want to miss an infection.

Tomlin - allotment sounds lovely. I'd love to get on the waiting list but not sure I'd ever manage to get round to going there. DH isn't a big gardener so would be just me.

DH's top tip for hospitals is that the labour rooms at our hospital are freezing. I didn't notice but he got very very cold (to be fair, I think that this is because they've put the place where birth partners sit directly under the cooling vents or something). Anyway, he always tells everyone to make sure they have a big warm jumper or something.

Spent the weekend getting down all the baby stuff from the attic, can't believe how much paraphernalia we have for one little baby . I love having it all in the nursery again though, makes it all feel a bit more real.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 08/03/2010 08:18

Morning all, just a quickie! As a first-timer, I for one think the list sounds really useful, and this thread would be the perfect place for it!

rachelfruitloop · 08/03/2010 08:33

Morning ladies!

Sorry for the lack of a personal post this time and that it's all about me, I hope all of you who have been feeling rubbish feel better soon, and those with ill or waking children are recovering well. I fall into the category of those with waking children. Though have to say last night DS slept through and it was I who had to get up to pee about 3 times!

DH is on annual leave this week and we're going to be painting the nursery and having carpet put in on Wednesday. Very exciting!

30 weeks now, I've not heard anything about the results of my GTT, I am guessing that no news is good news.

I want to get fitted for some nice nursing bras (someone else said that they recommend getting nice ones if you plan to BF for a while and I second that!) but I have no idea where would be a good place to go in London to get fitted and get nice bras. Anyone have any suggestions? Mind you, I am about a 38B now (normally 34A), so quite small/average sized. I was looking online and thought it might be easy to find some, but the nice ones seem to be for large sizes. Could be I'm not looking in the right places.

It seems a load of my RL friends are expecting their second babies in September! Have 3 close friends due within 2 weeks of each other!

I got a new toiletries bag from Boots the other day, thinking about packing a hospital bag! I may start a list a la MDM Found a notebook from 3 years ago with my lists from first pregnancy, also had DS's feeding/sleeping times for the first couple of weeks! I had forgotten how frequently I was feeding him to get BF established!

I hope you're all keeping well and getting some rest!

sweetkitty · 08/03/2010 09:36

Morning everyone

Re the list from last time, would FB be a good place to post it, is everyone on there now?

Anangelwithin - well done on the knitting front, I tried a cardi last time, messed up the last bit of it and gave up did do a nice blanket though, must get some wool this week and start one.

Just checked my bank balance and the HIP grant money has gone in this morning, that was quick posted it about 8 days ago. Will try and not spend it and keep it for the pram, there's a woman at nursery got a Vibe and she was thinking of selling it, will need to try and get ahold of her as that would be great if she was if not I think kiddicare is my best bet. Just as well DP gets his bonus this month he still doesn't know it's £500

Heffa - you are good we haven't started getting stuff down yet, right enough all of ours is pink and I don't want to throw it out even though I know this one is definitely our last. Will keep some of the little bits though and DD1 will probably steal some for her dollies.

The architect is coming on Wednesday to survey our house, if (big IF) we can get planning permission and the neighbours don't object we are wanting to extend to the side and back to create another 2 bedrooms upstairs and a playroom, utility room and office downstairs. The way I have erm designed it means we aren't ripping down external walls or moving bathrooms as I am trying to keep disruption to a minimum. He will probably come along and say don't be so stupid you cannot do that and if you do it will be 100K.

Rachel - Bravissimo is supposed to be good to get measured but not to buy necessarily. I have used figleaves in the past. TBH I haven't got measured just kind of did it myself, I'm usually about a 34C pre pregnancy so I think my nursing bras were a 34D from memory. Probably best to get measured though

Right am off loads to do today but the sun is shining!

a quick post as Im off to day assesment...

soo tired today..I cant hold my eyes open..not looking forward to driving for 40 mins each way to the hospital..decided not to change hospitals as my MW said it would take a few weeks to get my notes over etc..by which time id probably be due.

Im 32 weeks tomorrow..really need to get my act together and buy/sort baby stuff

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 08/03/2010 10:13

Rachel - I would recommend John Lewis to get measured. You can then either buy there (they stock some really nice ranges, including the Elle McPherson range) or shop somewhere else once armed with the correct measurements.

I have the opposite problem to you - none of the ranges I like seem to go up to my size! (32 F/G at the moment ). I rather embarrasingly burst into tears when I went at 16 weeks to get measured for maternity bras and they presented me with some hideous floppy granny numbers! But I found some nice ones in the end on ASOS. The Elle McPherson range, which they do in John Lewis, is gorgeous, and will almost certainly come in your size, because it doesn't go up to mine! And Mamas & Papas have got some pretty lingerie sets in at the moment too, also in a wide range of sizes (but not mine ).

Hello all

ML - glad DD is ok. Mine spent all last night in my bed with a temp of 38.6, know its not silly high but even that felt very hot to the touch. She was visibly upset/clingy/scared. Just spent most of the night telling her stories to get her to sleep, we managed 4 hours or so in the end.

She was up all night Friday but that was different, she just seemed awake then. Last night she seemed so upset.

It sounds awful but have taken her to nursery today (am calling them to check she ok etc and they say other than temperature and nasty poo she is) as I have the day off work to do my uni assigment which is due in tonight. 2,500 words and not started yet

I do feel like a bad mum but to be honest with no sleep, pregnant and the uni essay in I feel I couldnt necessarily cope, unless she really needs me of course.

Better crack on as the nursery could call at any moment.

Poor little mite. They say and I think its "just" teeth, she is 26 months so back ones?
