Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

hello all

I'm so tired tonight I can hardly think straight.

I had my biggest attack of acid reflux last night. Was woken up by it at 3am and at 4.30 I got up thinking moving around might shift it. It didn't. At about 5.30 I was inspired to eat an apple and I think that may have helped. At least I got some undisturbed sleep when I went back to bed after it. So I'll be keeping well stocked up with apples. Anyway, thought of you Squirtsmum, ML etc. Good to know in the middle of the night its a common thing.

Interested to know why head down means heart burn though Memorylapse. I guess because of most kicks are upwards? btw. my placenta is anterior, high up on the left, and every scan i've had so far has shown the baby in opposite corner - head down. Wondering if babies always lie opposite the placenta...?

Thanks all for reminding me to post my HIP form.

I'm so ready for bed!

Hope everyone has a good night.

sweetkitty · 17/02/2010 21:09

hi everyone very tired here tonight as well, DP off tomorrow so will have an easy day

Need to phone useless MW again about my HIP form, big mess up with it yesterday, that's my job to do as well as sort out an ironing lady (how long have I been saying that!)

BHs - I never had one with DD1 either, not even a niggle until after my waters went and the contractions started, DD2 had a load and DD3 had millions and about 3 false starts, especially after sex (overdue desperation sex), even the MW thought I was in labour and she was coming back that night to deliver me.

omaperazole - love the stuff one tablet in the morning no acid reflux all day

OBEM - that poor young girl reminded me of me with my first, scared, in pain, being fobbed off as making a fuss, hours to go yet etc, the MW actually apologised to me afterwards as I was so fast no wonder I was in pain. For any first timer my advice is go into it with an open mind, you don't know what it is going to be like and remember you are not a failure if you don't get the birth you want, there's too much put on natural births I think.

Gils - we went to Whinfell last year, hopefully going to go this year in September. Girls loved it.

pigley - go for it, a nice weekend will do you good, I know what you mean about leaving DD though, I have never left mine overnight, probably the longest any of them have been away from me is about 7 hours, no babysitters more than anything.

Angel - sorry to hear about your dog, know what it feels like we had some sad news yesterday too, my MILs best friends husband died on holiday, it was a retirement once in a lifetime cruise as well, poor woman, we lost my MIL last July who was like a sister to her and she lost her brother last year as well

hollyoaks - sorry you are having a hard time of it, I think it is only natural, I have had 3 normal births but am still very anxious about this one so to know someone close who has suffered a pregnancy loss or had one yourself must make you even more stressed and worried. I think we will all be relieved when we are on the post natal thread.

Right am off for some Cruncy Nut Cornflakes

memorylapse · 17/02/2010 21:58

schipo..the reason I get heartburn when baby is head down is cos shes stretched out more and higher up..where as when she was oblique last week..my bump was lower.

re health in pregnancy grant..sent my form off 2 weeks ago..was paid into my account on monday

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 17/02/2010 22:47

Itshappenedagain - thanks for the reminder about the HIP grant form . My GP forgot to give me mine when I went in for my 26 week appointment, but I called to ask for it last week and she's filled it in and left it in reception for me to collect, but I keep forgetting when I'm on my way in to work in the mornings. Have set a reminder in my phone now so I remember tomorrow.

Thanks Hollyoaks, Gils and everyone else for your comments after my worrying-session last night . I feel much better/calmer today - I think it was just on my mind after seeing my mum at the weekend, and I'd had a long day at work so everything was getting to me a bit.

Today has been much better though, had a really productive day at work after having found it hard to concentrate recently, and my boss admitted to a client that he'll struggle when I'm on maternity leave, which was really sweet of him.

Den - hurrah for the sofa! It's so exciting getting new stuff delivered.

Carikube - lovely to hear the super-fast birth story - gives me something to aspire to!

Pigley - we're due to go to a wedding two weeks after my due date, it's not too far from home fortunately, so we're really hoping the little one isn't too long overdue. I'm going on the hen-do in March, which is just a daytime thing as there will be at least 3 pregnant ladies there apart from me! V jealous of your potential spa weekend though. We've also been invited to a wedding 3 days before my due date, but not feeling brave enough to accept the invite for that as it's a long way from home and also don't want to risk messing the couple around by having to drop out at the last minute (plus we'll only really know one other couple there!).

schipo - interesting point about the baby being opposite the placenta. Might be true - my placenta is anterior high according to the 20 week scan (although 12 week scan said it was posterior), and I feel most of the movements sort of alongside and below the belly button. If I've been inadvertently leaning against my desk I get a really hard round bit just to the right of the belly button, almost as the baby's objecting by sticking its little head or bottom out to try to push the desk away!

Blimey, just realised that I do go on a bit! Sorry about mammoth post - DH is out tonight so there's nobody badgering me to get off the computer! Am off to watch the winter olympics in bed and remind myself of our trip to Whistler this time last year. No skiing for me this year .

Hope everyone has a good night's sleep.

Nearly forgot to say what I actually logged on for! Tesco.com is doing a baby and toddler event at the moment - loads of offers on all sorts of things including bottles, breast pumps, sterilisers, nappies etc.

OP posts:
TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 18/02/2010 07:36

Schipo - middle of the night acid reflux is horrible Glad you've found something that helps you!

SK - I felt sorry for the girl on OBEM as well, she looked so scared by the whole thing. I didn't think her Mum was being that helpful either.

MDM - thanks for the Tesco tip, a few new things I need

Hollyoaks · 18/02/2010 09:20

schipo heartburn is awful, I've got it very mildly so my sympathies are with you.

mdm glad to hear your feeling better, I have up and down days where I get more anxious. Always talk to someone about it, bottling it in does you no good.

tinylion didn't realise you were from the NE, me too . You sound like me, I was waddling around Silverlink last night looking around mothercare.

Pushchairs - dh has agreed after our scare at the weekend that we can splash out on a new buggy for this lo as so far its inheriting everything from dd. The only exception would have been new clothes if its a boy. So, we got a couple of new neutral outfits from mothercare last night and looked at some pushchairs. Looked at the 3way (I think) from mothercare but it looks like a more expensive M&P Luna with a smaller basket underneath so think we'll go for the Luna.

Now getting excited that this lo has more of its own identity. Can't wait to meet it but definitely want to wait till May.

Hobnobfanatic · 18/02/2010 09:54

Sweetkitty -- that girl on OBEM was me too - I went from 2cm to 9cm in a couple of hours, but everyone thought I was just a first-timer not coping. Almost sent me home! THen realised baby was in distress and kitted me up to have an emergency cs, but she was so close to being born they oiked her out (quite brutally, as I'd had a spinal and couldn't feel anything - until it wore off...) with ventouse.

Her poor partner really looked so scared, though I disagree with the nurse who told him it's worse to watch than to be in labour. No, it aint!

Thanks for the tip about the Tesco baby event, MDM - I've started getting a few bits together finally, and hope to sort out a room for the baby this weekend. Have found that my dream house - a house I've walked past for years and lusted after - is on the market. Am getting so panicky that we might not get it. It's all a numbers game... No other house comes close...

Squirts - yep, nausea is back here too. Miserable!

Tinylion - my DP doesn't like watching OBEM either. He doesn't like watching anything that isn't positive. BUt I think it's good research., to give him a vague of idea of the different scenarios that might occur. I love it - though I do spend the entire hour clutching bump, crossing my legs, wincing and crying!

Hope everyone is happy and healthy

pigleychez · 18/02/2010 10:16

morning all,

MDM beat me too it with the Tesco baby event. Ill be going along tomorrow as I am in need of a new steriliser. Also Sainsburys has 1/3 off thier nappies, wipes and toiletries. So will stocking up during the weekly shop tommorow.

Thanks for the replys about the hen weekend. Pretty much decided to go although now my mum is freaking out about me driving that distance on my own. Hopefully I can get a lift with someone but if not I have my mobile and SatNav so should be fine.

Sounds like theres lots of weddings going on in the next few months. Our friends wedding will be at 37 weeks in Cardiff and we are in the south east. They are only having a tiny wedding with 30 people so are having a large reception/disco party celebration when they return from thier honeymoon. This is 2 days after my due date which should be fun. Ill either be wobbling big time or possibly taking a tiny tiny one.
My parents dont live too far from where they are holding this party so I can always leave early if I need to or need to put DD down for bed.

Off to the Midwife this morning to pick up my overdue HIP form. Hoping my BP is ok this time- If not then it must be something about her! Shes nice enough so shouldnt really be stressed ?

AnAngelWithin · 18/02/2010 11:17

hello all. Hope you are well. I'm not doing too well to be honest, then with the stress of everything, i've not felt the baby move since yesterday morning, so im hoping a bath in a bit will get it wriggling. Better had, I can't deal with anything else at the moment!! I had a good talk with DH last night which helped a bit, but I think really he only told me what he thinks i want to hear. But hey ho.

Sorry to those feeling poorly. I sent my maternity HIP grant form last tuesday, it was paid into my account this morning. I have already got all my baby stuff so can be used for any nice extras.

Sorry i haven't replied to individual posts. am not with it really. sorry.

memorylapse · 18/02/2010 12:19

Angel..it could be that with the stress..you havent noticed baby move..but if you are sure that you havent felt anything..please see your midwife asap

rachelfruitloop · 18/02/2010 13:13

Angel, I'm so sorry about your dog and that you're feeling so stressed now. I hope that everything is ok. I'm thinking good thoughts for you! I agree with Memory, it's probably worth speaking to your midwife.

pamelat · 18/02/2010 13:58

Hello all, I can't even begin to catch up after 2 months away!

We finally (one hour ago) have our home internet working!!! Yippppeee, life is back on track

I forgot about my MatB1 form at my 28 week appointment yesterday, need it for work.

Has anyone else been feeling quite stressed out? I am ok today but have been worrying about how I will cope with a toddler and a baby, and worrying about the sleepless nights to come. DD was awful until she was about 6 months old, sorry. She had reflux so hopefully DS wont, is it genetic at all?

Hope everyone is ok. January was an awful month for us, with losing my grandad, DH's nana and the family dog but so far nothing too bad has happened in Feb. Oh also DH was made redundant but has found an internal job, so no redudancy money but better still a job

pigleychez · 18/02/2010 14:25

Angel- Do contact the Midwife if you are worried. I find a nice cold drink usually gets this one wriggling...Not that it needs much help!

Pamlet- I know what you mean about going back to those sleepless nights.- Well DD still has her fair share of them
She didnt consistantly sleep through till she was 9mths old (sorry First timers!) so i think ive deserved a good sleeper this time!

Well my Midwife visit went very well today..Everything was normal for once! BP was fine and No sugar in my sample! MW reckons baby has turned to head down now which is good but did say it could still turn again. Shes going to keep an eye on it for me.
Got my HIP form ready to send off. MW was asking me what i intend to spent the money on. We were joking how no-one actually says Healthy food!

MW was singing DD's praises about how good her speech is for her age and reckons she will be giving her HV a run for her money at her 2 year check! DD was chatting away to her and she reckons she will be watching DD on university challenge in time to come!

Just waiting for DD to wake from her nap before a trip to Tescos to suss out the Baby event.

littleowls · 18/02/2010 14:31

Afternoon everyone,

Angel - hope you have had a word with your MW and are taking it easy. I got my HIP money this morning too. Sent mine off at a similar time. That was a nice surprise, thinking of buying the cot now.

Went to tesco on saturday, lots of good deals on, already got my steriliser from John Lewis for £8, a avent microwave one, not sure what else I need so I stocked up on maternity pads and big knickers to put in my hospital bag.

Pamelat - hope february is a better month for you.

When the MW measured my fundal height yesterday it hadn't grown since 2 weeks ago. Does anyone know how accurate this is, she DID tell me not to worry but thats like telling me not to breathe!

I'm off to make pizzas and maybe some cookies. That's after I've finished watching house gift.

Hope everyone else is doing well x

sweetkitty · 18/02/2010 15:54

I phoned the MW today about my HIP form and she was off sick so got a student who asked me if I could get it at my next appointment, I said that is at 33 weeks so she said I could phone back next Thursday, I think not, will phone again in the morning, what a palavar don't know why she can't post it off to me! She seems so disorganised doesn't bode well thinking she might deliver my baby.

Will have to take a wander to Tesco then, I actually don't need that much really, some new blankets oh and a cot for DD3 so DS can have her bedside one, then the usual nappies and stuff for me.

pigley - good news about your MW visit, DD3's speech is coming on too, I love the way she shouts after her sisters, I feel sorry for her they disappear up the stairs and she is stuck at the gate shouting after them. I am worried about the new baby though, she is very possessive of me, no one else is allowed to sit on my knee, cuddle me or hold my hand, she will push them out the way to get between us, she needs to get used to someone else cuddling Mum as I will be feeding DS a lot. The other two weren't like that at all either.

pamelat - sorry you had such a bad month but welcome back, hope the rest of the year is better for you, I'm with you on feeling stressed as well, keep thinking about all the stuff that is happening this year.

Angel - I think sometimes just lying down in the quiet makes the baby move or you feel it, I can go the whole day practically without feeling him move then at night in bed I can feel him probably as I am relaxed and not running about. Hope you feel better soon as well you've had a lot on recently.

Hollyoaks - I have just sold my Lunamix buggy, have had a Luna as well, they are really nice and I like the carrycot you can get with them now, nice for a newborn. Which colour you getting?

marquise - my placenta is anterior as well, most of the kicks are on the left hand side just up from my belly button, at the scan he was transverse so hopefully he will be heading towards teh exit sometime soon.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 18/02/2010 17:40

A quick afternoon post from me, as I'm out this evening at our rather belated work christmas party! It's just our team of about 25 people, and they're all a really good bunch, so it should be fun, even if I will be the sober one! We're going to John Torode's (from Masterchef) new restaurant, and have got a whole floor to ourselves. Had to order our food in advance - a big fat steak for me (for the iron, of course!)

Bit jealous of everyone having m/w appointments. Where I live you get a 20 week, 26 week and 30 week appointment, then I think 34. Seems like quite a long gap in between, and the 26 week one was with the GP, so by the time I have my 30 week one, I won't have seen the midwife for about 2 months! Having said that, am seeing the GP on Monday because she wants to discuss the results of my blood sugar tests (which I was previously told when I called up were fine and they wouldn't need to see me!).

Littleowls - I've been wondering about the fundal height thing. I really don't see how they can measure it to the precise centimetre. I've been thinking that I might ask my GP to measure my bump again when I go in on Monday, as I'm convinced my bump is on the small side (it measured 23cm at 26 weeks, which didn't even seem to be on the chart in my sister's book - my book doesn't have a chart!).

Hobnob - hope you get the dream house you've had your eye on for years - so exciting!

Pamelat - must be such a relief to get the internet back up and running - hope it's just the first in a long line of good things to happen now after the tough year you've had.

Sweetkitty - am sure mine is doing star-jumps or yoga stretches in there, seem to get little nudges all over the place at the same time!

I've got my first antenatal class tomorrow at the hospital, quite exciting, and it means I get the morning off work!

Have a good evening everyone.

OP posts:
Hollyoaks · 18/02/2010 19:02

Angel - hope you managed to speak to your mw or baby has moved since you last posted. Hope your ok, please try not to stress too much, easier said than done I know.

Pamelat - glad to hear from you, sorry Jan was such a rubbish month for you, but think how wonderful May is going to be

Pigley - I didn't realise the hv did a 2 year check. Does anyone know if that's nation wide? DD had her 1 year check about this time last year so would have thought I would have heard something by now.

SK - as we don't know the sex of this lo we'll probably go for something neutral. Its probably going to be the black with green liner, love the green one but ds has it.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 18/02/2010 20:49

Pamelat - glad you're having a better month. We're worrying about going back to sleepless nights as well. DD wasn't terrible but she still didn't sleep through consistently for a few months. I'm not looking forward to juggling naptimes and bedtime either.

Angel - sorry you're struggling Hope baby has moved, can your MW help you at all?

Re fundal height - I'm never sure how accurate it is.

MDM - I have to see my MW every week so get lots of appointments, it's nice but I run out of things to say tbh. Hope you've had a fab night out.

sweetkitty · 18/02/2010 21:05

Hollyoaks - I think if you get the back you can get different hoods for it so can customise it in the future with matching liner of course they are very nice buggys!

I really want a Vibe but the cost is putting me off, was v cheeky and asked a Mum at nursery if she was selling hers but she isn't even though her first DD is well past 4 she wants to keep it as a single.

peakyispreggers · 18/02/2010 21:46

Quick post as im supposed to be holiday packing - sorry its not a long one

angel i hope this weekend is a little more relaxing, and you feel LO start kicking again

MDM glad you are feeling better, its good to talk

littleowls fundal height- 1cm = 1 week and its accuracy isnt great, can be 2cm out either way, so 2 weeks give or take - dont worry!!

AnAngelWithin · 19/02/2010 09:35

hello all

baby is kicking well this morning, but i was worried last night when i had tummy cramps as well! It must have been growing and stretching.

I had a good talk with DH, and hopefully things are getting sorted now. We are both really upset about the dog. We only had her 3 years but she was such a part of our lives I still haven't got round to sorting her bed out. I cant stand looking at it and seeing it empty, but at the same time, I don't want to have to move it away or get rid.

I fell humungous now. 26+4 today. Will post bump pic on my profile if anyones into bump comparisons! lol

LuckyC · 19/02/2010 10:30

Hi angel glad that the LO played ball and did some kicking. Hope you can have a relaxed weekend.

littleowls hey please come and live at my house and make pizza and cookies. I am now hungry all the time. Thank goodness I can't fit too much into the stomach now, though I certainly try. Had curry + icecream last Friday night and didn't eat that much but was enough that I had to stay awake until 12.30 sort of waiting for it to all go down.

hobnob I am

Two questions for you all, please. First, does anyone else find that their bump is smaller in the morning? Why does this happen?

Also breastfeeding . People have told me that I need to start sort of preparing my nipples (oh the dignity of pregnancy) to toughen them up. Erm. Really? Anyone else do this? And if so, how? (Might post this on the main thread as well.)

Have an unexpectedly free weekend this weekend - was meant to be in Bruges with DH for Last Weekend Ever but had to postpone because of the train smash near Brussels. So am going to Focus on Sorting Out Stuff for the Baby. Really starting to get edgy about it.

Have lovely weekends, all.

LuckyC · 19/02/2010 10:31

hobnob I meant to say that I am crossing fingers for you re house. Also bit . Long to have own place but DH and I have had to face facts and wait.

cupcakefairy · 19/02/2010 11:10

Lol, LuckyC preparing nipples?? What are we supposed to do, get our obliging dhs to 'practise'?

We have BIL's wedding 6 weeks after due date which I'm quite looking forward to, hoping I'll be bit more comfortable with things by then and can use it as an opportunity to show baby off to all extended family in one go! Will prob be exhausted by the end of the day though!
pigley I live in Cardiff, come to my house to put your feet up when you go to that wedding (Plus I could put you in touch with my mw should anything untoward happen )

Is anyone else getting cramps in their calves? Getting them mildly when I wake each morning but yesterday they were horrendous, woke up yelling in pain and scared dh half to death

I still haven't dared watch OBEM, I know it would scare me too much.
