Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

Hello everyone - sorry I haven't posted on a while. We got back from a lovely break in Turks & Caicos last weekend and I've been playing catchup this week, plus it was DS1's 3rd birthday yesterday which involved baking various batches of cupcakes for his nursery class, and other little friends. I'm not great in the kitchen - but they ate them nonetheless.

cadmum I hope all went well today, and that you are recovering well. I've been thinking alot about you over the last couple of days, and sending you big hugs. As some of the others have said.. please give us an update when you can.

We flew with American Airlines on our holidays and I was gobsmacked that they only allow the first 40% of seats booked to be reserve seating. We showed up at the airport pretty early, and were told at check-in that our 4 seats were all seperate, and that the gate may be able to help us. We were told at the gate that there was nothing they could do, and we should just board and ask other passengers if they would mind moving around. Luckily our fellow passengers were wonderful and we got 3 seats together for me & the boys, and my husband sat alone (hmmm). I called American Airlines before our flight back and was told this was specifically their policy for accomodating families - that they left this flexibility at the gate for just this reason and that we should show up early for our return flight. We showed up 4hrs before the flight and were told at check-in that they couldn't access the 3 flex rows for families. I just lost it and eventually walked away, then my husband came up to me with a grin saying they had caved and we had secured a 2 + 2 situation. Sorry for longwinded approach - just want everyone to be aware this can happen because I never in a million years thought it would.

CSWS thank you for starting the new thread - I love the new title. I'm nearly 22 weeks now and have quite a large bump. I'm feeling well, but I keep having to get up in the night to pee...

Have a great weekend all..

NizzyNoodles · 23/01/2010 10:38

I have this change bag www.thatcuteage.com/p1700-Ju-Ju-Be-BeAll-Groovy-Garden. It was big enough to have newborn and toddler bits but not so big it gave me a hernia to carry it. Also wanted something that wasn't black and sensible!! I'm still using it and number 3 will be getting use out of it too!! It was expensive but I justified it to myself by saying that I didn't buy decent handbags for myself anymore.....

DIMB scary story about the airline - sitting together is always the most stressful part of the flight for me too.

Somedays I can eat for England but I'm finding that I can't eat too much in one go - I think grazing is the way forward. Although I'm not necessarily grazing on the healthiest stuff.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/01/2010 14:52

I can't eat a lot of stuff because of the diabetes, but certainly am not going hungry.
My night out last night was actually to the first meeting of a pudding club that friends and I have started! I can't really eat puddings, but had a small bit as a treat and took some oatcakes and cheese to have as well. Thank goodness ds seems to be coping ok with me re-introducing a bit of dairy, or I really would be struggling!

Yay for more lovely scan news from georgee and greensnail.

Ooh I like that bag nizzy. I've never come across a memory foam change mat before - is it noticeably different from other ones? We have tempur memory foam mattresses on all of our beds, and love them.
Actually, talking of mattresses, can I recommend one for cots/cotbeds, especially for those of you that will have another child after this one? It's the purflo system - kiddicare sell it iirc, and it's basically a metal frame (which can be dismantled for transportation) with a sort of mesh cover stretched over it. It lets air flow through really well, and the whole thing can come off and go in the washing machine. This makes it great for allergies, and also means that it can be used for multiple children, rather than needing a new mattress for each one.

OP posts:
greensnail · 23/01/2010 15:42

CantSleepWontSleep do you co-sleep at all? I've been thinking about getting a new mattress and would love a memory foam one but have a vague recollection of reading somewhere you shouldn't co-sleep with them. We don't co-sleep longterm but did when DD was newborn and will probably do so again for this one - lifesaver with those 2hourly night feeds!

Loving looking at all of these bags. Can't wait to get myself a lovely new bag. Big hangbag I'm currently using has broken strap and I can't bear the thought of going back to my boring old change bag that came with the buggy.

MrsAlwaysRight · 23/01/2010 17:10

Hi Ladies,

Well had scan this morning. All looks ok. Unfortunately the consultant who scanned me really rushed through everything. He just reeled of all the measurements to his assistant and then gave us just one picture which wasn't very clear at all. We were in and out in less than 5 minutes

I know I shouldn't moan after Cadmums news but felt really disappointed with the whole experience as DD's scan was really quick too albeit not as quick as todays!

Didn't find out what we are having so Team Cream here!! DH has offered to pay for a private scan as he could see how upset I was. Not sure if I can justify spending the extra money though as we've been told all looks normal.

Summerhols · 23/01/2010 17:25

Dear all

Thanks for the reasurance that I am not the only one who is eating like a madwoman.

It is great to hear all the news about people's scans, mine is two weeks time and I have already got myself really excited and really nervous at the same time. Can't wait to see little baba bobbing about again

mrsalwaysright sorry to hear about your experience, consultants, as brialliant as they are, can sometimes not pick up on people's feelings (but this is just my experience!).

NizzyNoodles · 23/01/2010 17:49

CSWS I can't say that I've noticed anything very special about the change mat if it's still the one I've got so that might just be a bit of sales fluff? Very happy with the bag though.

Lovely to hear more good scan news - can't believe I'm 20 weeks this week and have my scan on Friday - it's going very quickly!

AlwaysHopeful · 23/01/2010 20:13

New thread, corrected spelling of "hopeful" for my username and corrected details on the list below - I feel like I've just done the spring cleaning! (actually, some cleaning wouldn't go amiss, but I'll sit on MN a bit longer first...)

All is well with me and my bump. Am also eating a second breakfast and afternoon snack, but my weight is OK for the time being. Bump is big, though. People look a bit shocked when I say "21 weeks down, 19 to go!" - my Dad in particular looked horrified at the thought of how big I might end up this time.

Mampam have you considered card making? Making baby announcements might be a bit premature, but you could do birthday cards to see you through the year, or even Christmas cards?

mampam · 23/01/2010 20:37

Hopeful I may just give cardmaking a go. My mum does this and has got quite good at it so I can get some tips from her, plus she's got some fandangled equipment for it which I could borrow!!

I've started crocheting squares to sew together for a blanket for baby!!

poguemahone · 24/01/2010 06:01

Chestnut are you a native Okie? (I'm not one but I suppose the baby will be).

Yes Mampam Oklahoma is in the USA. I'm impressed at you crocheting. I've still got one inch of knitting I started 3 years ago when I was pregnant with DD. If you're bored have you tried Bejewelled Blitz on Facebook? I could make that a full-time job.

Meggy, Alwayshopeful, Madamefreckle et al I'm another one who can't stop eating. By 18 weeks I'd put on 18lbs, and doubtless more by now, which is much more than I did with my other 2. I've got such an enormo-bump I've been asked if I'm expecting twins... (I'm not)

imkeepingmum · 24/01/2010 11:45

Hello all just been catching up on the messages. Sorry to hear Cadmum's news - hope you are ok

I've also been eating a fair amount although in the evenings tea tends to come to an abrupt halt as it all seems to go down very slowly and sit on top of my bump, most uncomfortable!

Scan in two week's time

LaTrucha · 24/01/2010 15:28

Hello all,

I'm putting in a contender for 'most embarrassing pregnancy moment' here (Filly, excuse the twice telling).

Yesterday I started my training as a bf helper for the BFnetwrok. I live in Wales and the tutor, who I had never met before, had offered me, DD and one other woman a lift to the venue 15 miles away down twisty, turny, country roads.

So, picture me crammed in the back with DD, various boxes and bags, early morning with terrible morning sickness. What happened next (Just after me saying, 'Well, yes, maybe I do need to pull over for a moment.')? You can all guess, but I assure you I did it in the most spectacular style hitting not only the steering wheel but all the other occupants of the car.

x 1 million (although I'm assured it was very funny, I'm sure having your hair puked on by a complete stranger is not THAT funny).

In my defence, I am usually not sick after the first time in the morning, and hadn't even considered the effect of the car as I usually don't get travel sick.

Oh, that and my new maternity jeans were constantly falling down because they are too big. What a shambles.

I got [[http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-shoulder-changing-bag-Praline/dp/B001CBYBWE/sr=1-86/qid=12643 46740/ref=sr186/278-7492476-7965055?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42764041&mcb=core this] Mothercare changing bag cheap but new on ebay as my pram is brown. I love it. It's huge, light and not too 'practical' looking.

Really beginning to feel the bump getting 'in the way' now. I dread the moment when I can't cut my toenails as I have a phobia about having my big toe touched. I think I gave up shaving my legs pretty early last time too, but then DD was a winter baby. I don't think I'll do that for this June. MAybe DH will have to do it. ROFL.

Congratulations on good, if rushed, scans.

MonkeyMargot · 24/01/2010 19:30

LaTrucha you poor soul vomming on a carful of passengers. I'm sure you will look back on this and find humour in the situation...
LOL at your toenails/leg shaving dilemma. Last time around, I actually got DH to paint my toenails because I hate them naked and couldn't reach. He didn't do a bad job!

Mampam I have only one word for you; Scrabble (on FB)!!

whenwillisleepagain · 24/01/2010 19:56

laTrucha - so brilliant that you are BF network helper. That organisation was my best discovery last time round (first baby).

I am really glad that other people are eating lots but not sure anyone can keep up with me. Thankfully my appetite has dropped a bit, but not before my hips have reached new depths / widths.

My bump has completely changed shape in the last few days, so wondering if the nose-picking little girl has moved from lying across my tum to being either straight up or down.

On the changing bag debate, I never got one last time, just used the free 'bookstart' bags and plan to do the same again. But I am thinking about getting a drop-side cot so can push the baby right up against the bed. DS slept in our bed a lot, but it was by accident rather than design and I feel like this might be a safer alternative, as I am worrying about DS who's now 3, leaping onto our bed in the morning and landing on the baby. ~Wondering if anyone has used them and are they worth the money?

greensnail · 24/01/2010 20:34

whenwillisleepagain if you already have a cot, check if you can get the mattress so its the same height as your bed - then you can just remove one of the sides of the cot altogether and push it up to your bed.

LaTrucha oh no, how embarassing! I managed to shave my own legs before going in to be induced with DD so it is possible to do it when you're huge - I definitely wouldn't let DH do it, but maybe yours is more competent than mine! I had a pedicure for my brother's wedding about 6 weeks before DD was born which was wonderful, and they did such a good job I didn't need to worry about reaching my toenails again and I got lots of compliments on my toes from the midwives!

I've been feeling very pregnant today and bump seems to have expanded hugely. Can't believe I've still got another 20 weeks to go (possibly) - I think i'm going to be massive!

nickytwotimes · 24/01/2010 20:42

Hi everyone.

I am another scoffer. After 4 mths of hyperemesis though, I am loving my food! I am about 10 lbs heavier now than at the beginning of pg, but given that I lost 1.5 stone in the first trimester, I have a net gain of 2st 3! Beat THAT!

MOANING ALERT! I have had an utterly shite weekend. Been feeling ill with throat/snot/sweaty thing. Dh ttok over with ds as he always does if I am ailing - he is fab that way (as am I, frankly!) However I have spent the weekend in bed listening to them shout at each other from about 6am till bedtime. I don't know if it is becasue I am a bit fragile but hearing them fight has been awful. Every time I intervened I ended up in tears which didn't help. I feel like a wet rag now and am dreading the coming week, feeling crappy and having ds to wrangle with - he is 3 and very trying at times. Don't know how to get through it.

MrsC09 · 24/01/2010 20:45

Hi All,
Just updating my details as had my scan on Friday. The little one was very well behaved for the sonographer & didn't wriggle around as much as last time! We had a sonographer-in-training which was great as it took her a while to find & measure everything so got to look at the baby for ages. Managed to keep our curiosity under control & didn't find out the sex, although that hasn't stopped me from starting to buy things for the baby (a pair of very cute & impractical shoes that were in the sale)

greensnail · 24/01/2010 20:55

nickytwotimes hopefully you'll feel a bit better tomorrow and it won't be as bad as you think. I've had a really hard day with DD today too as she's teething and totally miserable, dreading another day like it tomorrow without DH to back me up but have my fingers crossed that she might feel a bit better.

MrsC09 congrats on the scan. Your shoe purchase reminds me of one of my good friends. She bought some very cute baby shoes straight after her 20 week scan. They're still sitting unworn on the shelf in her nursery (her DS is now 2) but they're undeniably cute and have brought her a lot of pleasure just from admiring them

nickytwotimes · 24/01/2010 20:59

Thank you greensnail.

GinaFB · 24/01/2010 21:11

Hello all, FAB news about all the scans MrsAlwaysRight I was sorry to hear yours was very rushed.

I am hoping to get an emergency scan tomorrow as I have experienced some spotting and I am terrified. The MW didn't seem to think it was anything to be worried at as it wasn't in the first 12 weeks and as I have been coughing a lot it likely to be that but I am totally all over the place and am going to the GP first thing as they can apparently get me a scan...

Weight wise, only gained 2 lbs, not sure if thhat will continue!

LaTrucha · 24/01/2010 21:24

whenwillisleepagain - I'm not yet, but they saved the day for me and DD first time round and I'm so grateful. There are things about it that are surprisingly hard!

On the subject of the dropside cot: this was my plan. It totally did not work with a normal dropside, although I think there are cots you can buy that would work but they are very expensive. Mostly it didn't work because once LO is snuggled in next to you (and nipple ) they don't like being moved to a cold bed. It was also because there was a discrepancy in the heights of the bed which always made it feel dodgy, even though we tried sheet across both beds etc .. The main problem with this is that it was really difficult to get out of bed with a c-section scar! I'll try and find one of the pricey ones that work and link you.

LaTrucha · 24/01/2010 21:28

Actually this looks good. Be good to get heights though.

This is what I was thinking of.

LaTrucha · 24/01/2010 21:39

I couldn't afford this for six months of use, but I rarely lust after baby things but I'm really lusting after this now. Looks fab.

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/01/2010 22:34

That's lovely LaT. We can't use a cot alongside our bed because we have this bed, so the ledge makes it impossible.

Greensnail - we did co-sleep with ds for the first few months. Do you know what reason was given in the thing you read about not doing it with memory foam mattresses?

Gina - please try not to panic. People with low lying placentas can be prone to some bleeding, so it may be that you have one of those. They will check this out at a scan for you. Hoping that you manage to get one tomorrow.

Next appt at diabetic/obstetric clinic tomorrow morning. Hoping that they will let me go more than 2 weeks after this before my next one.
