Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

Hope I haven't missed anyone

If you've been scanned but have the self-control to not find out your baby's gender, perhaps we could put MYSTERY or SURPRISE on the list in place of GIRL or BOY for you?

I'm sorry I've lost track of who might fit into the above category. Please remind me!

greensnail · 22/01/2010 03:12

aargh, can't sleep. So frustrating!

MonkeyMargot I just bought the cheapest buggy from kiddicare when i needed something lightweight and cheap for travel. Was £30, and did the job fine. Still use it all the time now (keep this one in the car, and other one in hall for when we go out without the car!). Just had a quick look though and they don't seem to stock the model we got anymore, so not really much help! Have you looked at argos? Their cheapest one is £11.99

I've decided to treat myself to a new changing bag for the new baby. Does anyone have any recommendations? It needs to be fairly substantial to hold cloth nappies for newborn and toddler as well as all the other crap I end up lugging around with me!

poguemahone · 22/01/2010 05:12

Welcome and congratulations flossysmum and icklejess!

Cadmum I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

I hope it's OK for me to illegally stay on this thread as my OBGYN's revised my edd to 27th May, but I don't want to be the new girl over on the May thread as some of the bigger girls have told me they'll flush my head down the loo on my first day .

Actually I think my new May due date's a load of old tosh: I had loads of scans early on because of a torn placenta and my doc's going with the one that gave the earliest date just to give himself a bit of wiggle-room because I don't want to be induced. I'm living in deepest Oklahoma and babies in my little town are induced on their due date or earlier depending on the Obgyn's schedule (or c-sectioned with alarming frequency). But I'm not going to worry about this until closer to the time. This is my 3rd and I'm hoping this one won't get too cosy like my first 2 did.

Great thread name btw!

chestnut100 · 22/01/2010 07:33

i am loving the new thread, ladies!

It is lovely to hear all the great scan news, although tinged with sadness for Cadmum. My scan is next Thursday, 28th, and I can't wait, as I still haven't had so much as a slight prod from baby!

poguemahone I am sure noone will mind if you stay on our shiny new June thread! (Many moons ago, I lived in Oklahoma too)

Well, thank goodness it is Friday; sooo looking forwards to a few days away from work!

MomBanks · 22/01/2010 09:10

Hi all, I'm new to the thread.....

Due June 17th with baby #2 - already have gorgeous DS who just turned 2.

Scan in 2 weeks and not sure if we'll find out the gender, our first was a surprise but somehow it feels like we should find out this time around.

This pregnancy feels about 10x harder than the first one......maybe I just forgot how hard the 1st one was?

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

fillybuster · 22/01/2010 11:34

Welcome MomBanks - yes, pgs do seem to get harder...this is my 3rd and its about a zillion times worse that I remember the first one being. Perhaps something to do with having less time to collapse on the sofa/lie in bed when feeling exhausted?! I didn't find out with ds, but did with dd - I know what you mean about feeling you 'should'

Gizmo - the physio told me its never too late! Actually, she explained that the core muscles expand during pg (obviously) but that they are capable of remaining just as efficient, so its still worth focussing on them. She suggested doing regular pelvic tilts when sitting at my desk, for example, as well as trying to do buttock clenches (to improve glutes) whenever possible....on the tube, in meetings etc

Greensnail - I still my OiOi bag, but it was £50 2 babies ago...now that I'm onto my third it actually feels like it was a good investment but I admit that was quite a lot to spend. On the other hand, it looks really nice and holds an enormous amount, including all the stuff you need for toddlers as well as babies

meggymegmegs · 22/01/2010 12:46

madamefreckle Can you put me down as SURPRISE please.

Welcome MomBanks, flossysmum and icklejess .

fillybuster am at your OiOi bag, they seem to have gone up in price since your £50 spend 2 babies ago. Loving the leather ones on there, but am going to struggle to convince dh that they're a worthwhile investment, even if we have 5 kids. My birthday's coming up, so may try some hint dropping though.

greensnail · 22/01/2010 12:51

The OiOi bags do look lovely. I think i'll need to keep an eye out in TKMaxx to see if I can pick one up a bit cheaper. I don't know when I became such a grownup in my taste in bags - I always used to carry childrens' bags - my favourite used to be a big grinning cat

Getting excited about my scan this afternoon now!

MrsAlwaysRight · 22/01/2010 12:57

Hi Ladies,

Got our 20 week scan tomorrow and I am hoping that baby will keep its legs firmly crossed! Didn't find out with DD and would love another surprise, so hopefully will be joining Team Cream!

Anyone else got very sore back right at the base of the spine? If I sit down for more than a few minutes at a time it gets really stiff and I have to hobble round like an old lady!

On the changing bag front I have a Pink Lining Yummy Mummy bag from DD but have been eyeing up a Lin and Leo bag but don't think I can justify the price

playftseforme · 22/01/2010 13:03

The Lin and Leo bags are just gorgeous, but am equally scared by the price!

Meggymegs - I just tried to CAT you with the bugaboo details. First time I've used the function so if you don't hear anything, let me know and I'll try again...

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 22/01/2010 14:04

Afternoon everyone

Nothing new here, just plodding on waiting for Feb. 10th scan

RnB - good luck for Monday
FillyBuster - have you got SPD? I got it last time around am unsure if I should try and get a physio appointment now incase it happens again as it was too late last time and I couldn't walk anywhere for about 2 months
MonkeyMargot - Is your Osteopath private?
How did you come across them? I am contemplating just seeing someone private because of what I said above - basically mega waiting lists! What's the difference between that and physio?
Hiya IckleJess - we have the same due date! No one had mine last time and now I see alot of people do in this group I will probably still be the last - my last two were 10 and 13 days overdue
Woofie - how do you find pregnancy yoga? I always mean to do all these things and never end up doing it I have never done yoga before so not sure if it'll be too much.
Lots of Q's, sorry!

LittleRobbo · 22/01/2010 14:29

Hi ladies, good luck with your scan greensnail

Welcome mombanksand icklejess

I've been to TK maxx today and saw some gorgeous Paul Frank changing bags, they were £29.99 which is quite reasonable i think, probably loads more from dept store.

I'm off out to my fave restaurant with the girls later, cant wait as it feels like an eternity since i've been out, will be good good to sit,eat and moan talk for a while

LaTrucha · 22/01/2010 14:39

Hi all,

Totally tired out today as DD had her first night terrors last night. Essentially, she got freaked out by having one of the toys from the end of her cot trapped under her grobag, but I didn't realise what was happening as DH did the first settle and it all went on for too long before she came and slept (badly) in my bed. yawn.

I also woke up with a cold. Boo hiss.

I second how wonderful osteopaths are. I have to go and see one a couple of times a year, but they are always miraculous.

I am getting pain in my hips now, and sore breasts if I don't wear a bra at might. I bought a sleep bra, which was vastly overpriced, in a litle local shop but now I've got it home I don't feel at all comfortable in it. I'm pretty sure they won't want to refund me . Anyone else having to sleep with one on?

As for a lightweight buggy, I've just bought a Silver Cross Fizz. It's not sheap, although I got mine as an ex-display model so £25 off, but I love it. It's great for pushing with one had if DD wants to walk, and only weighs 4.5 kilos. It moves really well and it looks fab too. It's here. It is very lightweight though, so wouldn't suit everybody's needs

gizmo · 22/01/2010 14:55

Thanks Filly: that's reassuring. The pelvic tilts/buttock clenches etc are something I'll spend some more time on. I think the lumpyness I'm seeing is simply down to eating too much and, more significantly, cutting out pretty much all exercise bar cycling to work and chasing kids around. I don't see myself getting back to running at this late stage so it will have to wait until after DB is born to get sorted.

Welcome MomBanks, like Filly said I'm afraid pregnancy has been harder each time for me, too. Although my first pregnancy was 8 years ago so age may also have something to do with it.

ASLD if you can find a decent pregnancy yoga class you should give it a go. It's very unstrenuous compared to normal yoga, but is excellent for stretching and relaxing tired muscles. Best bit is, you'll get 10 minutes relaxation at the end of the class when you just lie there and go completely floppy. Getting up after that can be a bit of a challenge, mind ...

fillybuster · 22/01/2010 15:38

Ooh, I've just looked at the lovely leather oioi bags too....bad move!

No, I will not do this...I still love my bright pink and red poppy print on a skyblue background and its in perfectly good enough condition for dc3 (plus I think I'm done after this, so would really rather buy a new handbag later on instead!!)

For those who might be interested, this site www.babygiftgallery.co.uk/oioi/bags.htm still seems to have some styles at reasonable prices and I think its where I bought mine originally. Otherwise ebay/amazon are probably worth checking out. I would say that although (mostly) I'm against overspending on baby-stuff, having a decent changing bag, that's big enough and a good shape, is a reasonable investment...not sure about anyone else, but for me it replaces my handbag for the first few months (no point in having 2 bags), so it might as well be something I want to be seen with. Or at least, that was my argument to dh 5 years ago and it was (fairly) true

A bit envious of all those starting to think about baby-shopping. does that sound like buying babies? I think we've got pretty much everything we need - ds was a 'surprise' so all my really new baby stuff is cream/white/multicoloured and both my dcs were pretty big and into the 0-3 month stuff within a few weeks, so the new baby clothes are still usable(ish). And of course I have both pink and blue version of anything bigger than 0 months...I'm sure some stuff will need replacing/updating, but not enough to do it in advance.

Although I am in discussions with dh about a new bf-ing/glider chair. I bought one when ds was 5 weeks old from kiddicare.com and it was a godsend. 2.5 yrs later it was fraying a bit, so I suggested moving it into ds' 'big boy room' for storytelling etc, and getting a new one for the nursery. DH agreed and proceeded to buy completely the wrong thing without discussing it with me ...since returning it would have been about £50 postage it stayed, and became the reading chair (it doesn't recline and is too narrow for bfing properly). I'm probably going to turn my office (in the attic) into a 'private' living room for me and the new dc so give us somewhere to hang out during the day that isn't the very small nursery and is away from my nanny (long story!) and the dcs...trying to convince dh we should invest in a new chair for the nursery and put the knackered one in the attic. He's not convinced but I've got 20 weeks to go

Oh, I suppose we are going to need a new car...and that's a massive bit of shopping, but more dh's area than mine!

mampam · 22/01/2010 16:14

Hi all, welcome to all the newbies. Ok I'm being a bit thick here where is Oklahoma?? As in USA???

I've had my physio appointment today. I've been given a belt to wear. She was very helpful and explained quite a few things that I hadn't realised about SPD. I hadn't realised that there would be inflammation, I suppose it makes sense really. I can go back in 2 weeks and have some acupunture and if I'm still finding it difficult to move about I can have some crutches to help me. She was a really lovely physio and even said that once I've had the baby I can go back and she will check the alignment of my pelvis and she will even help me sort out my pelvic floor muscles and water works!! Only bit of bad news I had was that I won't be able to go back to work now until after the baby is born.
I guess I already knew this at the back of my mind so now I'm a real lady of leisure!! (Still a bored one though!!).

Those of you looking for changing bags, have you had a look at the Next website? I've been looking at these although they don't give any measurements so not sure of the size. Quite reasonably priced too. OiOi bags look nice but DH would have a heart attack if I spent that much on a changing bag!

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/01/2010 18:27

Just a quickie to mark my place as off out tonight (despite being f*ing knackered) and lots to do first.

I just use a normal big handbag with lots of pockets as my change bag/handbag.

Summerhols · 22/01/2010 19:28

Hi Ladies

Not been on this post since I joined (DD 17th).

Just wondering is anyone else eating for England? Lost weight in the 1st trimester (morning, evening and night sickness) and now can not stop eating. As this is my 1st please someone reasure me that this wont last for rest of pregnancy as will need to buy a load of new clothes if so!

georgee · 22/01/2010 19:53

Hi

Just to say that I had my scan today (it was supposed to be Monday but I too got the dreaded vomiting virus so had to cancel).

All was well with everything they looked at ... and it looks like we're having a little girl!

Have lovely weekends all

Georgee x

greensnail · 22/01/2010 20:18

Congrats on your little girl georgee

I had my scan this afternoon. Everything looks fine. We opted not to find out the sex but DH thinks he saw some boy bits, which would confirm my suspicion. Was really struck by how different this baby looks to how DD looked. Also seems much more docile in its movements than DD was, and I feel so different this time to last. Its funny that when I imagine having another baby, I think of one just like DD, but i think we may be in for a shock on that front. DD has been overall a fairly easy baby, so hope we're not in for too much of a shock with this one!

MonkeyMargot · 22/01/2010 20:29

Congrats greensnail and georgee on scans
CSWS have a fab evening out. I'm sure your exhaustion will lift once you get out and into the swing!!
SecretLemonadeDrinker yes the osteopath was private, not a referral through GP. We went with DD1 as she had an assisted delivery with ventouse, and the MW suggested going to see a cranial osteopath. He has been so brill with her, thought I'd see what he could do with me!

summerhols I am also eating an enormous amount. Don't worry too much! Your body prob needs it after being ill for first trimester.
I get through a first brekkie at 8am, a second breakfast midmorning, proper lunch in work canteen, afternoon tea and biccies, bits of DD1's tea and then proper supper with DH later!

Re. changing bags, we bought a SkipHop which has been brill so far with DD. I think they're about £50 too, so not cheap.

Am unfeasibly tired tonight. Long day at work, lots of driving. Have walked dog whilst DH prepared supper (this is v.rare) and am now watching film whilst t'internetting. Have a good evening all! x

gizmo · 22/01/2010 20:56

Eating loads?

nervously eyes full fry up waiting on the stove

Oh no! Just the large bowl of muesli followed by a morning wading through packet after packet of biscuits at work - with the occasional grape if I'm feeling virtuous, followed by a pub lunch with more biscuits during the afternoon, followed by the remains of the kids' dinners and then my supper.

Nothing extra to speak of, really

MillyMollyMoo · 22/01/2010 21:38

A quick hello, nothing to report, it's dragging this pregnancy to say the least. I have another 10 days until my 20 week scan as they are insisting I see the consultant due to a hole in my heart my I was 9 for goodness sake .
I'm still considering an independant midwife to make sure I get the birth I want but it's a lot of money for what is essentially one day of your life.

meggymegmegs · 22/01/2010 22:58

Congrats on your scans georgee and greensnail.

Yes I'm eating loads too, but mainly early on and I sort of get less and less hungry through the day. Double breakfast in the morning (cereal plus blueberries with yoghurt and honey) then bananas and a couple of satsumas mid morning, sandwich and crisps (whoops) for lunch, more afternoon fruit then a bit of dinner with DH.

The worst thing is I've found myself subconsiously making mmm mmm noises when I eat breakfast because I enjoy it so much . DH takes the piss every morning, but I can't help it.

Getting mildly obsessed with changing bags after today's threads and so am now off to have a look at Skip Hops, thanks MonkeyMargot.

madamefreckle · 22/01/2010 23:20

Hi, just adding MomBanks (hello!) and updating some scan results. I'm such a list-fiend! Regarding eating - I'm chowing for England - all carbohydraty, cakey type rubbish! I've put on over a stone already but reckon I'll easily manage another 2 before June!
