Just popping in before running out the door for my scan (please have moved up, please have moved up).

Hey, Happy Burns for all of our north of the border ladies!

Actually, my bioloical father was from Edinburgh so I guess that's kinda me, too!

Oh, surely we need a [bhaggis]? Although I suspect it would look a bit like a [bturd].

Which could be very useful at times.

yuk manda, poor you - hope you're fully recovered now, and good luck for your scan

Welcome kellze - I must admit I did find the 1-2 transition harder than 0-1 but it is a different kind of hard and I think a lot depends on your DC1. My DD was very very jealous and I found that incredible hard. I read a a book called three shoes one sock and a hairbrush which when I read it I thought was scaremongering and ridiculous, but when I actually had DS thought was spot on! In other words, if you're prepared for it to be really hard, then you will be fine. My mistake was to think, oh yes, I know how all this baby stuff works, forgetting that I had no idea how to deal with two children with very different needs. But then again I have plenty of friends who found 1-2 a doddle so hopefully you will be in that category!

I am panicking about the 2-3 transition - anyone have any wise/comforting words for me?!

EmLou - hope you had a lovely relaxing night away with your DH

Those suffering from heartburn/reflux/indigestion - what foods have you found that DON'T make it worse? I find that everything seems to give me reflux

Have forgotten all the people I was going to reply to... will have to go back and re-read!

Gosh...that took some catching up, and i think i was only Friday i was last here.

Firstly as a 'london lady' well, ish. I would like to big up both norf and sarf. We were in Woodford (essex technically but still on tube - zone 4 central line) till a yr ago. Lovely area. Lots of families etc. Prices ok, but you obv pay a premium for being on the tube. eg we sold our 3 bed terrace for £300k ish. But went on to buy bigger 3 bed semi with bigger garden etc nr Epsom (surrey) where we are now for roughly same price. We are v happy with where we are now, trains go into victoria/waterloo/london bridge depending what line you get on. 30/40 min journey.

Sorry to those with a dose of the nobbies (nobby stiles). Touch wood, not something that I have had to contend with yet.

I read the hairbrush/shoe book and it was scaring the crap out of me so i just dipped into it. I think 1 to 2 is prob harder in some ways ie juggling 2 kids with different needs but also easier in some ways in that its not such a shock to the system and you 'know what you are doing' (theoretically!). AND you are less likely to stress about things that you stresssed so much about with first one. Long and short of its is I guess we just have to cope with it no matter what. After all we have reached the point of no return! And, as my yorkshire DH if very fond of telling me 'It'll be reet!'

What else ? SPD thing coming and going. Sleep is proving very elsuive last few nights, but I also have a cold. Probably man flu actually. But..DH finally conceded on Sat and we bought a new mattress. It's being delivered today. SO. here's hoping tonight is a better nights sleep for both of us.

Hope everyone is getting the rest and help that they need. Roll on tonight and my new mattres.

Good luck Manda!

Afraid I don't understand what sets off my heartburn DRSkidaddle, but drinking milk before bed does seem to help.

Just back from doctors and have a new cream and pessary - how exciting is my life!

First official day of leave today as was working from home last week - trying to overcome urge to do useful things like painting (!) and sit around like I'm supposed to.

Anyone noticed how much more I'm on here since I don't have to work all the hours of the day?!

Hi all,

I am new here but have been stalking for a while! Have never posted on anything like this before so my knowledge of abbreviations is poor - please forgive me if I cock up!

I am 33 weeks (due March 10) and it's my first baby and am clearly going mad with worrying about everything!

Has anyone else been suffering from palpitations? I had a major bout last week so the Dr recommended I had an ECG - it showed my heart rhythm to be fine, but my pulse rate to be super fast (90-100 bpm). Weirdly my blood pressure is fine though - I thought the two would be linked, but clearly I know nothing! Anyway I had some blood tests done and will get the results of those this week...

Also, this morning on my commute to stinky London I got really dizzy after walking up a small flight of stairs at a tube station. Felt very wobbly on the escalator afterwards but managed to calm down after having a drink and something to eat (had already had breakfast before I left home this morning so am just a greedy pig!).

Not sure if this is all par for the course or if I should be worried?! Any advice?!

I guess this morning's bout of weirdness could be linked to the fact that I woke up at 2.30am and didn't really get back to sleep... Such an injustice that your body prepares you for motherhood by depriving you of sleep before the baby's even arrived!

Sorry for a selfish post!

I hope everyone else is well and coping with the final few weeks - mind boggling how having 3.5 wks left at work feels like it could actually be 3.5months...!

Rebecca - Pessary only ever works for me. I feel you'r eitch as have been plagued by it throguout all my pgs!

I do manage to persuade Pharmacist to give it to me as my title is 'Dr' I lie and tell them I;m a GP

Drskid - I'm also rather terrified by jump to 3. The biggest fear is being at home with DS2 (DS1 is at school) - as much as I love him he is a little sod at the best of times!

Hi all and welcome newbies!

Lisbapalea - a quick googling says that palpitations are quite common in pregnancy... Yes not sleeping sucks!

Arcadie - I'm good at Ikea flatpacks, give me a shout next time!

Swings, thanks for your tip, I know Dulwich is nice!
Puree - I thought it was you who live in Bromley, we have been considering that as well (or Beckenham), but not sure if we wanna be more in "real" London although I too think Bromley counts as London as in the zones.
Sariska - yes I agree Muswell Hill is not good for transport! And overpriced too.
74 - might have a look in Woodford...

We haven't heard yet about the house.

Piles sound awful!

Shroomer, glad you're ok, must be so scary to see blood.

Pixie - no way, hahaha, glad you got rescued quickly and no need for fire brigade / crane.

Manda - hope you're better! And how was the scan?

Rebecca - pessary will sort you out in no time, cream alone is not sufficient.

I won't add to the debate whether it's harder to go from 0-1 or 1-2, will just have to wait and see!

major at rebecca for first day of leave

welcome lisba sounds like you're describing panic attacks which can be self perpetuating as the more you worry the worse they can get, normal to be anxious for first DC and good you've asked your GP

No sleep but broken sleep here and DS waking at 5am!

Urgh panic attacks make me sound like a loony! But I have a feeling you could be right!

We're copping out of the Ikea assembly - we've found a handyman who specialises in building that stuff (he built our pax wardrobes when we couldn't face it!!) so he's making some stuff for us next week as my husb has done his back in and is no good to man nor beast! Bit cruel to say that on his birthday...

Feel like a Scandi-fraud though as I too have Swedish blood swimming through my veins so I feel like I should be a natural with Ikea stuff - evidently not!

Symapthy for anyone with piles and other nasties...

Yes! I'm now 'anterior' with no encroachment on the os. So no cs for me! Well, no elective cs; fingers crossed I swerve an emcs too! As for it working... they're estimating fetal weight at 2672g, so a touch under six pounds. At 34 weeks. Not mahoosive, but he's certainly a little chunky. Aw.

Also, saw the midwife and at first she couldn't do my bp because she couldn't 'hear' it. I reassured her she wasn't going deaf, it's just usually very low. She tried again, all the while joking that she couldn't find my pulse so I must be dead(!) (come on, I must be at least UNdead if I made it to the appointment?!) and it was 96/50. Went through results from last couple of appointments and interestingly the swab done four weeks ago is negative for gbs now. I know that it can be a transient thing (I'm just considered positive regardless)and the nhs swabbing isn't the gold standard, but it was a plain old nhs swab that picked it up at 20+ weeks so... interesting, as I say. She also said the protocol has changed if I have another superquick labour with no time for the ab's. It used to be standard to give the baby precautionary ab's and take some blood to check for infection. But now they observe for 24hours. It means I'll more than likely be in the hospital for at least 24 hours but... dunno. Feel more positive about that.

Oh for crying out loud!! I've just realised I completely forgot to get a signed HIP form AGAIN. I'm never gonna remember. I'll have to resign myself to being UHIP. Now, where are my scampi fries?

(actually, I just ate a banoffee cheesecake slice from m&s so I've covered today sufficently. )

Hello, hello to all the newbies.

Piles, me too. Not awful, not itchy or painful (yet) but just... there.

So, what is your doctorate in, BPM?

Speaking of doctors, hope Pacific is ok, she seems a little... challenged of late.

Hello's to everyone else. As I'm fully recovered now, I do hope to resume service as usual and blather on and on, replying to all and sundry.

Lis - tell me more about your swedish blood?! Do you speak the lingo at all?

Good news Manda! Oh that BP is even lower than mine. Strange thing is since I started taking Spatone every day my BP seems to have gone up also, but not sure if it's related. Undead, that's pretty cool! Are you a vampire too? Perhaps you need to drink some blood. Call your surgery and ask them to get the HIP form signed and leave it at the front desk! You don't want to risk missing out on any freebies from the government.

Annamama - my mum is Swedish but unfortunately I don't speak the lingo apart from the very basics! Think Mum tried to teach me when I was little but probably not little enough so it didn't really sink in. Keep meaning to try and learn as an adult though....

Also keen to get some Svensk influences for the baby - if it's a girl I think its middle name will be Anna (my mormor's middle name - you like?) as I thought Valborg (my mormor's middle name) wasn't the prettiest!!

Have also just read the first two Stieg Larsson books which are ACE! Desperately want the 3rd and might treat myself to it when I finish work and have some time on my hands before chaos begins.

Share the HIP form ball-ache - got a letter from the inland revenue saying I wasn't pregnant enough to qualify so I called them to be told they had my due date as 31st october. I pointed out that if that was the case then the baby wouldn't have been conceived yet so clearly they had the wrong info. Hasn't made it any easier to get cash out of them though....

Fun is a good reason!

bpm that list is too long and horrid. You definitely deserve as arcadie rightly points out, whether it's the done thing around here or nay.

Lisba, it's funny you should mention the third book as something you might pick up as I just got an email from amazon that included it for the great price of £3.99. When I clicked through, though (thinking I would order two and three together in anticipation) it says it's not released until April 1st (and, no, I'm not trying to fool you!). I guess the email title 'hot pre orders' should have clued me in...

anna, what do you mean am I a vampire too?! Obviously, I'm not... how would I be out and about during the day? I'm no Wesley Snipes, I tells ya! I suppose that only leaves zombie. Or possibly a Mummy (technically a zombie also?) although I'm distinctly lacking in bandages. Good point about calling the doctors.

I think I'm going to have me a little lay-down. Walked lots today and feeling it now.

Report
lisbapalea · 25/01/2010 16:36

Manda - Darn it! What are the chances of having time to read a book after 1st April?! Slim to none I reckon....

What are you all reading? With all my bath time at the moment since X-mas I've managed to finish the Quincunx (a feat but worth it), Ranulph Fiennes autobiography (normally not into bios but enjoyed it) - just started on 'all the pretty horses, Cormac McCarthy).

Time to go pick up the sprogs - this is where the hard work starts.
