Marking place - must not start chatting and too much bloody work to do!

Shroomer · 21/01/2010 08:08

Thank you everyone, you are all so reassuring. The bleed seems to have stopped, so unless it starts again, no need to contact the maternity assessment unit at the hospital. As for sleeping on my back (by accident) I shall stop worrying about that too.

I managed to remember to do some exercises for 3 days in a row now, and hope to continue now until the birth (abdominal muscles, pelvic floors, back ones, birth ball ones). Everytime I bend down to pick something up I feel that I have to grab onto something to drag myself back up again. So I've picked out some lunges and squats to try to get some strength into my weakling legs.

JasHook · 21/01/2010 09:27

Shroomer glad to hear you're feeling better.

Aargh. And I know what you mean about the bending down. I feel like an 80-year-old every time I try to pick anything up. I keep trying to remind myself that I weigh more than I think I've ever weighed at the moment and that my muscles just aren't used to it.

Actually, this morning I am officially out of energy. I am sick of getting up 3 times a night to traipse to the bathroom, then getting up at 6 for the commute, then working all day, then commmute, then going to bed, getting up 3 times a night.... Moan moan, whinge whinge, etc.etc.

One...more...week...til mat leave...

EmLouT · 21/01/2010 09:37

Morning - just a quickie as off to the hospital in five mins. V Nervous as went for another scan (2nd opinion) last night and they said LO was actually losing weight - am terrified about what today may bring. I can't bear the thought that he is starving and I can't help him!

Will keep you posted.

evitas · 21/01/2010 09:40

Oh JasHook... nights are getting harder and harder. I got up 5 times, couldn't find a comfortable position, backache, sore legs and hips... I'm more tired now than when I went to bed.
Thank God I've booked a pregnancy massage for later today. Really looking forward!

Shroomer - I'm glad the bleed has stopped.

Manda - well done

Caitni - thanks for the link

Hope you all have a nice day

MummyElk · 21/01/2010 09:43

morning all
quick one because i should be Doing Stuff

Does anyone here think i should go and see the Lovely bones at the cinema? A friend has asked me to go with her, with the caveat that i'm allowed to bow out if i think it's too much.... but i'm not sure i can cope with it?! or can i... the book was good (waaay back when) but i wasn't a mum or 7 months pg? and you know what i said about Haiti stuff, it's just too awful (and true)..

Oh god i'm boring myself. it's a film. Get over it Mummyelk.

jazhook just keep muttering One More Week....you can do it!! i feel your pain though
shroomer glad you ok

evitas · 21/01/2010 09:43

EmLou - my thoughts will be with you! Good luck and be strong! Kisses and hugs!

annamama · 21/01/2010 09:55

EmLou - thinking about you and keeping fingers crossed.

Hi Smac - sweet of you to worry about me! I've just been keeping myself busy, that's all.

Well done Arcadie for starting a new thread!

Too much to catch up so I won't comment on anyone else, but I've read everything and everyone who needs it have my sympathies!

Nothing to add from me, I feel pretty good actually despite having yet another cold. DH has manflu though. I wonder if they really feel worse than us women, I'm actually starting to think so, so maybe those nasty comments of "oh is it bad manflu then?" are out of order?

MummyElk · 21/01/2010 10:12

emlou just saw your post - fingers crossed and thinking of you... we'll be waiting with baited breath!

BulletProofMum · 21/01/2010 10:53

Good Luck EmLou - I reckon we're about to have our first baby. I hope all the positive stories of premmies will keep you strong.

I also keep getting very strong BH and convincing myself that his is it.

Two very busy weeks at work then I can wind down for mat leave!

Arcadie · 21/01/2010 11:12

All the very best EmLouT. Remember you're in the hands of people who've seen this and done this hundreds of times before and they know what they're doing. Will be praying for you and miniLouT.

hi all
update on things here in a mo but first...

good luck on driving tests. i cant imagine diong a driving test just now, but focus ladies and i'm sure it will all be fine.

eugh to the jury service. bet you'll be glad when its all over.

from my side, trip to physio yesterday to get my sexy support belt for spd. agent provocateur it is NOT but it certainly seems to help so it's all good.

trip to gp today to get new sick note and have now got one that takes me up to the start of my maternity leave. scarily though she did say that if the spd does get really bad (which as she helpfully pointed out, it may well do as i'm only 31 wks and have a good bit of growing to do yet), and i am really uncomfortable, they may decide to induce early...lets hope things dont come to that.

dh seems to have gone into overdrive buying baby clothes. i can't complain as he is chosing some lovely things. its just hard to buy when you don't know what sex the baby is.

can anyone tell me where i can get a baby bath that is not part of a whole set, and also a change mat that is not pink or blue?

hope everyone is doing ok.

x

evitas · 21/01/2010 11:23

Hi 74slackbladder, you can try John Lewis. They have nice white changing mats and baths check here

hecklephone · 21/01/2010 11:30

Quick post as I'm currently at college, supervising the delinquents who are currently doing a writing exercise for me!

EmLou - hang on in there, I'm thinking of you too.

Elk - I couldn't even finish the book when I read it before becoming a mother so the film is pretty much out for me!

evitas - SO jealous of your PG massage - I would love someone to give my shoulders a good seeing to!

shroomer - glad things have settled down

manda - respect to you for doing your civic duty and dealing with two pretty serious cases - especially at a time when one's hormones are in overdrive. It sounds like you're doing a great job and FWIW I'd probably have come to the same conclusions as you.

Gotta go - will post again soon xxx

scooby26 · 21/01/2010 11:46

Emlou- prayers and good wishes to you all. The doctors will do what is best-sometimes better out than in. Baby emlou is obviously wanting to meet his parents who have to remember they have done nothing wrong-its just crap luck. Im sure all will be well for you, just perhaps a little early! Good luck to the two drivers-braver than me-but understand ur drive-i couldnt manage without a car! X

74slackbladder · 21/01/2010 11:52

One other thing...anyone else have eczema?
mine is driving me nuts. i had thought that i couldn't use any steriod cream whilst pg, but gp says i can use a mild one eg hydrochortison, use if liberally for a few days to clear it up, then stop. dh was very jumpy about it and said he didn't think it was right. pharmacist has previously told me not to use steriod creams too.
anyone else suffering with this ?

here's a laugh for everyone...i was just reading another thread on perenial massage and posted my eczema question there ! Oops. Its a good thing for everyone that i'm not at work.

mumbot · 21/01/2010 11:55

elm thinking of you - good luck

74 mamas and papas are a good shout but pricey

Does anyone have any tips for extreme tiredness? Actually slept last night but eyes are closing, so tired.

Any good energy boosting ideas? Please don't say exercise, I may fall asleep in the pool if I swim

xx

annamama · 21/01/2010 12:23

Mothercare have got some cute unisex changing mats for about £8. I do love Mothercare, when I go there I wanna stay all day not run away.

BulletProofMum · 21/01/2010 12:47

MumBot
I'm exhausted too. Far more than with previous babies. I tried to eplain to DH last night that I really need him home to help me put the boys to bed as I'm jusdt oo tired. He goes to the gym twice a week after work. It fell on deaf ears.

I fell asleep int he bath last night within minute. I'm tired of Gp's midwives tellign em it's to be expected with LOs. It is more extreme than that. I can barely make it throguht he day without dozing off.

Went to see the Road last week - superb and harrowing but it shied away formt he book's more shocking scenes.

Thanks for the talk on changing mats - reminded me to put it ont he list as we threw it away recently.

Think I might trreat myseld to a pg massag when I start mat leave. It just seems a lot of money for pure indulgence.

DrSkidaddle · 21/01/2010 15:22

Good luck EmLou and thinking of you. It is a horrible situation but I'm sure the doctors will make the right decision, and keep thinking of all the positive stories you've read on here (just been chatting to a mum who's DD was born at 29 weeks - she is now 2 and doing fantastically). Let us know how you get on xxx

manda - wow how fascinating but also harrowing. I have always wanted to do jury service (although not in the 7th month of pregnancy!) but wonder if I could cope with it after reading what you had to do. Thank goodness you convicted that horrible man and hope your last day goes OK.

caitni - can't believe we have our driving tests on the same day - remember to come on and tell us if you passed! I will of course do the same (mine's at 8.10am so will know early on) - and thanks for all the good luck wishes everyone

JasHook BPM and other exhaustees - much sympathy, this final bit is so hard, isn't it. If it's any consolation, I think most people have good days/weeks and bad. I had an awful couple of weeks when it was snowing of feeling really sorry for myself with awful insomnia but at almost 36 weeks I am actually feeling much happier and more energentic now although nothing has changed (apart from the snow) - hope you find the same

74slackbladder · 21/01/2010 15:52

Another question for all you wise ladies...its a name question i'm afraid, so hence wanting to air it on here rather than amongst people i know in 'real life'

OK, front runner on girls names for dc2 is Catherine. This was DH's nana's name and she was known as Kitty mostly. We both love Kitty as a name too.

Quesion is do we go with the formal name Catherine, which I prefer in some respects, as I have this thing about diminutives as childrens actual names (ie i were calling my son Will, i would want William on the birth cert, not Will). Also as much as I love the name Kitty, it does seem like a little girls name to me and may be a name a little girl might get fed up with as they get older and if you had the name Catherine, the child obv has lots of other choices if they get fed up with being a Kitty. Also I'm not sure that it's an obvious diminutive to most people.

I know of two other people (not close to us) who have called their girls Kitty, but just Kitty.

Pingpong · 21/01/2010 16:16

EmLouT thinking of you and hoping you get some clear answers today.
manda jury duty has been a real emotional rollercoaster for you hasn't it. I'm sorry I didn't realise you had to go on and do a second trial I naively thought that once you had done your one that was you off duty. No wonder you've not had time to cruise around on MN.
annamama glad you're doing fine too
Manflu - well I know that any little sniffle for DH is like the end of the world and instant requirement of extra strength lemsips so when I'm pg and can't take anything stronger than a paracetemol I'm not very sympathetic!
74slackbladder I promised early on not to get involved in name chat as I'm very opinionated on names (and love commenting on the baby names section on MN) but don't want to fall out with the lovely ladies here so usually just but I have to say I love Catherine (we are considering Kathryn as that is the way my family spell it) and I am a real traditionalist and love proper names and then like you say the child has choices in the future as to how they wish to be addressed depending on their preferences.
mumbot I don't have any energy boosting ideas as such but I tend to aim for bed at 9pm/9.30 and read for a bit. I find I'm much more comfortable in bed stretched out than I am on the sofa watching telly.
mummyelk I have to say I didn't even spot your error re Julie Walters/Andrews so I definitely have pg head daftness as well!

Shroomer · 21/01/2010 16:40

74slackbladder - I had no idea that Catherine and Kitty were linked. If she loves her name (and I would if I were called Kitty, but wouldn't be so fond of Catherine) she will grow up wanting to be called that. If she goes to uni, as a lecturer, there was always an awkward couple of weeks while I called students by their 'given' names - until I found out what they actually preferred to be called. Kitty and Catherine seem so unrelated to me (i.e. there's no word stem relationship like Deborah and Deb), that if it is acceptable to use K as a diminuitive of C, then you could also do it the other way around (i.e. birth cert says K). I had to look up diminuitive in my dictionary!

I like Kitty a lot but yes maybe it's better to go with a more "formal" name on birth certificate. Perhaps Katherine or Kathryn so the names start with the same letter? Just checked my names book and it says Kitty - a familiar form of Katherine.

Poor IWCAS! Nice that someone helped you and that you called to say thanks.

Someone said before about stitch like pains when walking fast, yes I have that too, don't think that's BH, just ligaments or muscles.

I feel for all you exhausted people, especially if you're working and/or not getting enough support from DHs. I'm tired too but I'm lucky in that I do get a lot of support from my DH and I'm not working (although I am trying to work from home doing things on my computer). Being constantly tired sucks and it probably won't get much better with newborns... But it's not forever! "I can't do this anymore!", I can already envision some of us say. "Yes you can and it's not like you have a choice."
