Hecklephone You sound utterly dejected - I could just cry for you..... so sorry . However it does sound as though most of your ills and woes will be gone in a matter of weeks.... (and replaced with a whole new set.)

Mummyscrummy and all else who've asked. DD is covered in spots. There are prob about 20 on her face and must be coming on 100 on her torso. She's mostly fine but occasionally just cries and asks for "Medsin pees Mummy" Lots of cuddles today. Lots more aga8in tomorrow I expect. Am continuing to tell myself that...THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

Also currently baking a birthday cake for DS ( he's 4 on Monday. 4, people.... where's my newborn 1st born gone eh?!) and hopefully going to try to sculpt it into the shape of Bolt the superdog from the film of same name.... and then transport it to Lincoln for the day after DSIS's wedding...

Congrats to DrSkid too, well done! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't shave my lady garden... (DH likes it natural and I'd be too lazy to do it even if he didn't). Yeah I just trim mine a bit with normal scissors, I can do it without seeing but I guess you could squat over a mirror?!

BPM - liked your positive list! Yes it's great to feel the baby move isn't it.

Funny how everyone is different re body hair, spots, etc. (Me hairy but not spots.) Actually we ran into a distant friend who is now pregnant and I hardly recognised her because she had such bad skin, which she doesn't normally. I'm sure everyone will be back to normal soon after!

MummyElk - you're funny

Heckle - hope you get rid of that palsy thing soon!

Arcadie - poor your DD, I vaguely remember having that as a child and it can be very itchy and unpleasant.

As for me, I've been to the midwife today, baby is now head down (was breech at last appt), so that's good! Bad news is she said it's back to back, so I really have to follow my own advice and sit leaning forward and stand on my hands and knees, hmm I can think of one use that could have, which is now long overdue...

Or maybe not, because I'm not well, have this AWFUL cough, I was so desperate that I googled the ingredients in our cough medicine and I came to the conclusion that it would not harm my baby, I would not have taken it in the first trimester though. Anyway I've taken the medicine and it has helped a little bit but I might still go to the doctor tomorrow, I'm coughing non-stop and it's so horrible. Have gone from panty liners to super size sanitary pads, next stop will be Pampers size 4... hate weeing myself! Really must do more pelvic floor exercise.

No news on the house - no news is probably bad news. Thanks anyway for all your tips re London, will remember it until next time.

Nite nite.

mumbot · 27/01/2010 23:36

Grr been to bed, tried to sleep, hello reflux, hello Gaviscon, cue me being awake for ages. Boo

74slackbladder · 28/01/2010 08:24

Gosh, everyone sounds nearly as grumpy as I feel.

Bad coughs, BP, SPD (incl me), Pox, Heartburn, Piles, to name but a few.

My grumbles ? DS waking up at 6.30...which compared to previous form is not bad at all, however DH thinks its totally unreasonable and gets grumpy and shouty when DS comes in at 6.30 for cuddles. Get over it, its gonna get a lot worse in a few weeks time!

Also sleep related. Went to bed at 9.30 last night, couldnt sleep. ended up getting up again at 11.30. Despite fact that i was knackered and had felt so all day.

What else ? more general grumpiness at DH...he managed to block downstairs toilet last night TMI, I know. Still at least he had the decency to fix it this morning.
AND, general frustration at DH's intolerance of DS being a child ... gets cross if DS runs a train along the wall or wooden floor. Once again, its gonna get a lot worse soon! I'm blaming his OCD (DH not DS)

Still, on the plus side, I'm off to get my hair cut soon which should cheer me up and also we are off MIL visiting this weekend which normally would be filling me with fear and dread, but the dear old thing has booked us in a hotel for two nights 'so we get a good rest' !! What a star she is!

Finally on the subject of clingy toddlers - am getting very concerned about how the hell i am going to amuse DS for 3 days a week as of next week when I feel as tired and rubbish as i do now.

Sorry everyone for GIANT size winge. Hope everyones ailments are not getting them down too much and well done to the newly qualified drivers.

Promise not to be as grumpy next time. Honest

BulletProofMum · 28/01/2010 09:33

SB - I am so with you on nearly all your winges!

DH also gets really cross with the boys for exactly the same kind of thing (disrupting sleep in the morning; wood tables wood floors and toys; dropping food ont he floor the younger oen is 2.5 ffs - what does he expect!?). He struggles with being tolerant of 2 I#m really worried about how he's going to adapt to 3.

I am also quite frankly terrified of looking after my toddler nearly 24/7. He is much much harder work than my elder one ever was. He will only be in nursery for 2 days a week as of March. IT's not so much that he's clingy - just needs constant stimulation and is stubborn

I CAN DO IT!

74slackbladder · 28/01/2010 09:45

Oh BPM I am so glad I am not he only one with a DH who thinks toddlers should come ready made with ability to be clean, tidy, be considerate and generally be the perfect house mate. What a relief!
As for having DS at home 5 out of 7 days a week, I think I shall be worshipping at the alter of soft play rather a lot in the coming weeks & months. And upping his daily quota of CBeebies.
Perhaps it will be easier when the weather improves...? Or am I kidding myself?
Reminds me, yesterday when I took him to one, i saw a lady with a son around same age as my DS and a baby who looked to be about 2/3months old. Noticed her catching a few zzzs once the baby had dropped off in his car seat. I think that's probably what made me worry so much.
Anyway. Am back from haircut and feel a little more chirpy now. It's the little things in life isn't it that make us feel better. How shallow am I ?!

BulletProofMum · 28/01/2010 09:52

I'm just panicking now as we havin't sold our house. Our current garden isn't attached to the house os I don't have a safe area in whih I can push the children out of the door and shut it again!

We'd planned to have moved by now, have found our perfect house and can't sell ours. the thought of another summer with nowhere outside for them to play and burn off steam terrifies me!

BelgianMummy · 28/01/2010 10:24

Hello all. I am also due in March and have only recently discovered Mumsnet. So just wanted to say hello!! [Waves]

angfirsttimer · 28/01/2010 10:29

I have been cheered up from my pregancy grumbles (CTS/Heartburn/insomnia/hip pain/bad skin) by my nursery furniture arriving today. Delivery men were lovely. They did that whole suck in breath thing when they saw the stairs they had to get the stuff up but when they saw my bottom lip tremble at the thought of not having my perfect nursery furniture they pulled out all the stops to get the stuff up to the nursery.
Yeah for sympathetic delivery men who are willing to actually do some hard work in the name of customer service!!
Furniture is gorgeous, obviously have now cried at how lovely it looks and havent even got the cot built yet!

Anyway sympathy to those suffering but like 74 small things can cheer you up no end!

mummyscrummy · 28/01/2010 10:47

Morning ladies just a qucik post as i am at work!

anna Dont know if my DP like the natural look but thats what he gets! am far too lazy to be, excuse the pun, fannying around down there! just a scissor trim for me too!
Also DS was back to back when I was trying to push him out needless to say he didn't come out so hope baby turns around soon!
arcadie Poor DD I am dreading it when it comes to DS's time for pox. at least you'll be on hand for advice!
BPM everything crossed for you selling your house soon.

belgain welcome!!

74 glad your feeling more chirpy after your haircut! When you figure out what to do with a toddler at home 5 days out of 7 please let me know as I will be in the same situation 6 weeks from now!!

As for me I was awake most of the night woth unbearable heartburn and my trusty gaviscon ran out!! Ran out! been to tesco first thing to but some but its not having the desired effect it usually does . Probably mention it to the midwife later to see if she can give me some ranitidine or something!

Anyway hope you're all having a good Thursday, 4 weeks and 1 day until i finish work!! Yippee!

BulletProofMum · 28/01/2010 11:18

I recommedn ranitidine - I had dreadful heartburn with DS1 as he was breech. Ranitidine was the only thinkg that worked.

I'm just about coping ont eh Gaviscon this time round.

BulletProofMum · 28/01/2010 11:33

shame I can't cope wtih typing!

evitas · 28/01/2010 12:00

Hi all,

congratulations to the new drivers!
My sympathy to all who are suffering piles, discomfort, heartburn, insomnia, hip pain..
I'm sad today, I have a new symptom: I had to take my weeding ring My hands, legs and feet are swelling. Yesterday I drank almost 3L of water but it wasn't very effective, but today it seems I'm finally flushing the water away.

Last Friday baby was transverse... so hopefully he will turn around over the next weeks.

xxx

Shroomer · 28/01/2010 12:16

evitas My baby is also transverse. Found out on Saturday night. The midwife said that it must be uncomfortable - not sure why, and I don't know how uncomfortable a transverse baby is because it's my first. I'm trying to get it to turn by leaning forward on the birthing ball, etc.

evitas · 28/01/2010 12:45

Oh Shroomer... he's also my first one. Maybe that's why my tummy is so sore. Fingers crossed that our babies will turn

xxx

scooby26 · 28/01/2010 13:29

Hi all

BPM I like your list - funny how some positives are such the opposite for others. I have terrible skin on my face and my body hair is growing at a rate faster than sound!!

Heckle Sorry you're ill - get it over and done with now and you will be fighting fit by your due date!!

SB BPM - I couldn't cope - hats of to you both - suer you will both cope fine. Also agree on how nice a pamper hair cut is - just nice to be looked after if only for one hour!!

Belgium - WELCOME!!

Ang1sttimer - Isn't it nice when people are helpful!! Next men kindly took a bed upstairs for me last week - would never have managed without them!!!

evitas sympathy with you on the fingers. My rings had to come off weeks ago. I'm not hoarding lots and lots of fluid but my fingers (which are usually admitedly skinny) jare like little puddings for me. They get so swollen that they are painful at night when I try to sleep. Midwife reckons its probably carpal tunnel.

had midwife appt yesterday. Had 3 midwives - meant on that basis there was a fair chance I had seen one of them before!!! Apparantly baby is head down. Mentioned 4/5 engaged - still unsure as to whether that means 4/5 in or 4/5 out!! ( 4/5 palpable suggests to me 4/5 out???) apparantly lying to my right hand side but despite asking got no further. I asked if that was ok or should i be trying to move him and was told all fine. I had thought you want the baby to be to the left(????) does that mean he will have to go back to back to get over to my left ? What of he stayed there???

Been sleeping like crap last few days so probably sounding a bit grumpy - apologies!!!

Hope you're all well!!

ilovegreenbeans · 28/01/2010 13:50

spring will definitely help with the toddlers- we can go back to the park!! I'm so sick of soft plays and the library- I just want to let DD loose somewhere outside.

Sympathies to those taking their rings off- I'm sure I was wearing mine on a chain around my neck by this time last time, but surprisingly they still fit at the moment.

Ah, the list of moanings... I feel like the baby's definitely getting lower these days and doing some interesting things to my bladder... won't see mw until next week though to comfirm these suspicions. And Scooby, 4/5 in your notes means 1/5 engaged, it's by how much they can palpate. And as far as I can remember, a right lie is slightly less common than a left one, but absolutely fine.

Thinking of you all dealing with bigger problems than my ... constipation... hope it all gets better soon!

mumbot · 28/01/2010 15:42

scooby Just saw this definition elsewhere...

"To find out if your baby's head is engaging into the pelvis, the midwife feels how much of your baby's head is lying above your pubic bone. The way in which a midwife records engagement can be a bit confusing if you're not a midwife. If she can feel four fifths of the baby's head, she writes down 'four fifths', but this actually means that your baby is only one fifth engaged. If she can feel two fifths of the head above the pubic bone, the baby is three fifths engaged. If she can feel one fifth of the baby's head, she writes down 'one fifth' and the baby is four fifths engaged. If she can't feel the baby's head at all, the baby would be fully engaged."

MandaHugNKiss · 28/01/2010 16:18

mummyscrummy Just a note re: spatone. Yup, if you chug it straight out of the packet, it's VILE (and made me gag!). However, put it in a glass of orange juice (or somesuch - preferably something high in vit c as that aids absorbtion) you cannot taste it at all!

scoob just as mumbot quotes, baby is only 1/5 engaged. But 1/5 has to be better than transverse - sorry evitas and shroom. But, hey, at least you don't have to put up with feet in your ribs. Kicking feet. Surprisingly strong kicking feet. I swear, my ribs actually feel bruised. And if he carries on chunking up like he has done thus far, I am only half joking when I say he may end up cracking one or two of them! I'm sure your babies will turn in good time. Still a good few weeks left yet.

Aw, poor DD, arcadie. Tis true, and lucky, we don't suffer so badly when we get it as little 'uns, but that's not much of a consolation when trying to prevent a small person scarring because the multitude of scabs are driving them mad itching. DP has a good few scars on his face from chicken pox - his mum told him not to scratch and so, being the ingenious child he clearly was, he decided that rubbing his face in his pillow wasn't 'scratching'. Bless.

I seem to be having a ridiculous amount of braxton's. Even, every time I wake up in the night, I'm having them then. I wake in the morning to a rock hard bump. I'm not worried that it means impending labour or anything, but cant help wondering why when I barely had any with my other two. Is it because of such a big gap/my advancing years that my uterus clearly feels the need to limber up properly? Eh. Rhetorical question, of course. I guess it's just 'one of those things' we never get a definitive answer to.

DrSkidaddle · 28/01/2010 16:55

Hi everyone and thank you for all the lovely congratulations - still haven;t set foot in the car since I passed but at least I know I COULD IF I WANTED TO!

heckle - poor you you do sound really down in the dumps, and understandably so. Really hope it clears up quickly

annamama at trimming myself while squatting over a mirror!!! Reminds me of green fried tomatoes when they had to look at their fanjos in mirrors and shout @I love my vagina!' or something! Well I went for the easy option and got DH to do it for me so I am now good to go if this baby decides to come early...

Also sympathies on cough and pelvic floor I had a cough at this stage with DS and I remember crying to the GP that he had to give me something because I couldn;t cope (he prescribed antibiotics which cleared it up in a couple of days - might be worth a try?)

arcadie poor DD - do you reckon the wedding is not a possibility then? What a nightmare but you are quite right - this too SHALL pass. Happy birthday to DS - you have an even smaller age gap than me which makes me feel better - I have been getting too many 'you must be mad' comments recently!

Hello and welcome belgianmummy

evitas - I have taken my wedding ring off to but it is only for a few more weeks...

BPM - love your positive list of pregnancy symptoms - only wish I could share them all!

scooby - it took me 3 babies to understand the whole palpable/engaged thing! My baby is also on the right (or left? whichever is not so common) - my MW says it will make no difference for the labour - it is just less common because that is the side your liver is on so usually the baby goes for the other side as there is more room

manda - I also have more BHs this time (also my 3rd) - I reckon your theory is correct because after pains are also supposed to get much worse. Suppose uterus muscles get more an more stretched so when they contract they have further to go?

scooby26 · 28/01/2010 18:56

Thanks all re engaged thing. Tis as i thought, just a little annoying as 2/5 engaged last time. I guess being signed off to stop the baby coming has worked! X

ichy bump ? no but lots of other iching due to eczema= try e45 itch relief, which is apparantly safe to use during pg.

did anyone else see that thread about how long babies should sleep in your bedroom?
I was totally unaware of the advice that they should stay in wiht you for 6 months, not to mention the reasons why.
we managed 8 weeks with ds1. we all slept better once he moved out.
what is everyone else thinging ? I don't know if we will even manage 8 wks this time. seems everyone gets a better nights sleep once baby gets their own space

mumbot · 28/01/2010 19:47

74 we did 6 months with DS 1 in our room, mainly because I felt too tired lazy to get out of bed to do night feeds so I positioned his glider crib where I could just reach over and pick him up or rock him back to sleep

pixie not had a really itchy bump since using Bio Oil

EmLouT · 28/01/2010 19:49

Hi all - have been a very errant MNer as have not been on the internet much over the past few days - trying to supervise / hide from builders BUT the end is in sight - they think they will be finished tomorrow - DS's new bed is arriving in the morning and the carpet fitters are coming a week tomorrow. All that is left after that is for my aunt to come and do the art work on DS's new wall (very lucky to be related to a phenomenal artist who loves decorating children's bedrooms - I personally cannot draw a stickman)and then DS can move in - we can clean the nursery, turn the cot bed back into a cot and hey presto - baby ready (I hope).

Thank you all for making me smile in your remonstrations about stroppy toddlers - mine is constantly either demanding, crying, throwing tantrums or just being plain odd at the mo - putting it down to a mixture of terrible twos and nerves at the impending arrival - hard to remember that they are still only babies and they have no idea what this change is going to bring for them. However, the bedtime battles are killing me (he is currently in his room wingeing) so any advice on how to combat them would be much appreciated.

Pleased to report that LO seems to be putting on a bit of weight - my blood tests are all clear and things are looking a lot more positive than they were last week. Baby looks to be about 4lbs already (at 35 weeks) so hopefull the IUGR is mild and he will make a decent weight.

Back to the grissly toddler - advice pleeeeeeeease!
