Come in, come in to the new haven for diffed BESHies. I think a group effort is needed here (and I'm being a lazy preggo), so please add to the deli whatever you crave/love/can stomach.

Nominations are also open for sexy fathers we can hijack to serve our mouldy cheese and cured ham

And the best mocktail recipe wins...well, bugger all to be honest

how many nappies does baby need a day? or does this depend on my own baby's shittiness?

Dunno ski. I just can't stand tennis, so was glad he got beaten simply cause it meant it was over and i could get the TV back. While I know plenty of Scots who play tennis, I've never known many get enthustiastic about a player of any nationality .

Anyway, rugby players have much better thighs...

cas newborns up to 10-12! Over a few months around 7 or so but you need enough washables for washing and drying while using the washed ones, see?

skihorse · 03/02/2010 13:47

carrots That is absolutely brilliant. Now you've seen us through nappy-changing can you please do weaning/potty-training/first day at school for us?

CurlyCasper · 03/02/2010 13:52

carrots you are a star! Now, if you don't mind me pushing a little more, when do we decide which ones to use when?

OP posts:
givecarrotsachance · 03/02/2010 13:53

I would ski but you've forgotten something which comes first - labour :-P

skihorse · 03/02/2010 13:57

I thought that was a given that you were going to do that for us.

givecarrotsachance · 03/02/2010 13:58

cas sorry I don't understand. Which what to use when?

Ponymum · 03/02/2010 14:05

Have to admit I am a disposables girl meeself. Don't use wipes though, only water and cotton wool or towelling cloth. Friends who have used washables have found them good but one found it a bit exhausting as she had to wash the nappies first thing every day to get them on the line, or else have wet nappies all over the house. I found it exhausting enough just keeping up with all the dirty sleepsuits, sheets, vest, etc. There is a booming second hand trade and you will see deals being done all over MN. People get quite evangelical about their favourite kind.

My sister is the lavender garden type. She has six children. The older ones watched the younger ones be born (though I understand this was in the living room not the lavender garden). We are very different. She is also into the techniques of "she who must not be named" and in contrast I am all drippy lovey and breastfeed on demand.

cas/ski Yes will be watching 6 nations but my loyalties lie elsewhere. MrP will be v happy yelling at telly about how northern hemisphere ponces can't play a proper game of rugby, etc.

CurlyCasper · 03/02/2010 14:06

sorry rots, I meant when to use bamboo and when to use terry. Does it matter, or is it just a case of having a few you can dry quickly to hand?

As they get older and sleep longer, is one type of nappy/wrap better for overnights? (I'm figuring this doesn't matter so much in the early stages, seeing as all they do is sleep and eat!)

CAS TeDDy not teRRy. Important distinction. Teddy is an artificial fabric a bit like fleece, and like fleece it dries almost out of the washing machine. It also stays lovely and soft if dried over heat, eg on a radiator. They're a bit bulkier than bamboo - and not natural fibres.

Bamboo is natural, organic and extremely eco friendly, naturally antibacterial and antifungal, extremely absorbant and lovely and soft. Bamboo takes much longer to dry though - longer even than cotton and if dried on heat can go a bit hard, like towels. Tumbling them for 10 minutes when first out of the drier will make them nice and soft if you have to dry them on a rad. They're slimmer than teddy.

You can use either, whenever, but having a mix makes it easier to keep on top of washing and drying.

pony's point about her friend can be a problem as there is SO much washing with a newborn - but that's why you need at least enough nappies for one day's use and one day's washing, in which case it's really not a problem. I ended up with 3 day's worth with LC - 2 days to use while one day dried - very easy.

Second hand nappies are easy enough to get hold of and perfectly fine, and very eco, (obv assuming they're in good enough condition) but don't bother with second hand wraps as they don't last as long as the nappies, and may start to leak after one or two babies.

ski oh, yes, sorry, of course I will

Just found that MN has deleted my post - not sure why? What did I write that was wrong?

givecarrotsachance · 03/02/2010 14:37

Oh prob the links to the website. Well whatever - there's prob someone lurking who complained - well you all know where it is anyway and I'm not here to promote my company so .

But don't forget the "mumsnet" code for the discount.

givecarrotsachance · 03/02/2010 14:43

cas Teddy is the name given to the Bambinex ones. Tots Bots call them Fluffles, for instance, and there are other ones around. I think that Tots have discontinued the Fluffles to buy new but you will still see a lot of them.

People do get evangelical - which is fine - but generally each brand/type is a slightly different fit so what works PERFECTLY for them may not for yours.

There just aren't enough sposie options/brands to get excited about and there's squillions of washables, so lots to talk about if you're so inclined!

I have been known to get quite excited about nappies (coz I'm a bit sad), but generally when giving advice I recommend keep it simple...

Ponymum · 03/02/2010 14:44

Oh my goodness rots. I have never had a post deleted. Does this give you some sort of status like the 'bad' girl in the school playground?

CurlyCasper · 03/02/2010 14:51

Thanks rots - that was just me typing as a colleague threatened to enter the room. I did realise they weren't terry nappies.

Can't believe your post got deleted, particularly as we always link to products! I'm just glad I gleaned the info and built my online wishlist before it got deleted by the cyber police. Really didn't see the need when you were giving advice we had clearly asked for.

I did have one before - when Flight Attendant was around - I said something about shagging her husband, can't remember the details. It was the single most offensive thing I could think to say to her after she'd said some utterly awful things to the BESHies and I was trying to say, "this is what it felt like to read what you said".

Obviously posting my website upon request is Against The Rules... I'm such a bad girl

Cor, I'm tempted to go home and tell YOB what a bad girl I am. Or does that make this post offensive again? (Remembers ski sitting on JB ).

Not bovvered - not too keen on the full details being on here anyway - this is a non-work place, please, although obv talking about nappies is always fun.

I need a life.

Ponymum · 03/02/2010 14:54

Bumsex!

Ponymum · 03/02/2010 15:05

Nope, that didn't work. Obviously I just don't know how to be a 'bad' girl.

CurlyCasper · 03/02/2010 15:05

pone is that you suggesting a way in which carrots can get a life?

I'm working on a spreadsheet which is really boring. But again, all the typing is making the baby wriggle. Little wierdo!

Pampers. Huggies. Heinz. Cadbury (RIP).

OP posts:
givecarrotsachance · 03/02/2010 15:08

pony I think that generally someone has to complain, so I expect that it's someone lurking here who did that. Often there are nappy suppliers who have time on their hands who go round doing that - seems a bit pointless to me - but I've seen it before.

The nappy business is a bit cut throat .

CurlyCasper · 03/02/2010 15:10

So not the brand names then...

OP posts:
givecarrotsachance · 03/02/2010 15:13

cas I was most miffed to see the news last night that "Cadbury's shareholders had voted to sell out" because it was not accurate. Actually most small shareholders didn't - but Krafty decided they only needed 50% plus 1 share to get their mitts on it. IF minor shareholders voted "yes" they got the full whack offered. IF they didn't vote (the only other option - no "no" vote), they got less money for the shares. So there was plenty of bribery going on (legal apparently). We have some and refused to vote (given the only option was "yes") even though we lost a fair few ££ in the process - we just couldn't bring ourselves to do it and I know that LOADS of small SH did the same, out of principle.

RIP indeed.

givecarrotsachance · 03/02/2010 15:17

Prob not the brand names, esp as I was mentioning others that we don't supply.

someone's obviously got more time than me.
