Come in, come in to the new haven for diffed BESHies. I think a group effort is needed here (and I'm being a lazy preggo), so please add to the deli whatever you crave/love/can stomach.

Nominations are also open for sexy fathers we can hijack to serve our mouldy cheese and cured ham

And the best mocktail recipe wins...well, bugger all to be honest

We've also vetoed pink. Yesterday whilst buying the couple of baby things we did (in the sale) - there was a couple in front of us who piled up shocking pink bib, shocking pink dummy, shocking pink bottle, etc., etc. I asked jailbait what he thought the 20 weeks scan had indicated...

Now I don't mind a bit of pink truth be told - but I'm raising a child and I hope a strong, young woman (if it is) - and not a fucking Disney princess who relies on her tits to carry her through life.

cheggers I get you. I ended up wailing again yesterday leafing through the baby catalogue because it's all too real. I'm having a baybee and I can't change my mind now. I'm still not sure I've made the right decision.

I'm glad we've got a plan for BC for next year. I'm the only pleb on skis it seems - you gals are just too young and hip for me. Have you been able to get out at all this season cheggers? You know, what with it oh so typically being an epic season for you guys. I used to live 1km away from a ski hill until 18 months ago. They had a 50cm dump friday night and got loads more yesterday. Thing is I never enjoyed it because it's a different thing all together when you've got to get to/home from work, get the shopping in, feed the animals, Dig the car in, dig the car out.

Ponymum · 01/02/2010 10:27

Pink is vile! I hope I am not scarring my daughter for life by having the whole world think she is a boy just because she doesn't wear (much) pink. I thought (naively) that blue = boy and pink = girl, and everything else was neutral. WRONG! Apparently the entire world thinks that e.g. jeans with a green top = boy, red and and spots = boy, etc. When we were at the pram shop on Saturday the foal was wearing a lovely charcoal grey corduroy duffle coat, and the shop assistant referred to her as "he" for about 5 minutes! So you are either forced to dress them in something pink to telegraph to the world: it's a girl, or put up with them being called a boy until they are about 3.

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 10:40

The odd bit of pink will do my child no harm, but I certainly won't be sticking to stereotypes (I hope). I prefer bold, colourful stuff anyway. I saw a six-piece Hungry Caterpillar set online at the weekend - a classic and perfect for boy or girl! Mind you, thanks to ebay success, I now have more than enough clothes for a newborn.

We're defo going to hold off on the wedding. If things miraculously settle quickly and it's not too expensive we might decide to book it after the birth. Might be different if it was here in the UK, but this involves flights/hotels/car hire and that's a fair bit to lose out on if we can't go.

Am entertaining the idea that all of your girl babies will be obsessed with pink and you will all have no choice

Anyone have any thoughts about what sex they are having? Everyone seems convinced (based on nothing) that I am having a boy... Obv I won't know till it's born.. but find myself thinking of it as male... am blaming everyone else for making me think that way...

Not that it matters either way!

cas I haz poss wedding in Ireland.. won't be at 6 weeks tho.. would be at about 10 weeks.. still thinking prob not - but will decided nearer time!

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 10:57

iggs Looking at rest of family's birth patterns, I would say a boy. But SFF is convinced it's a girl. I have no idea, but find myself increasingly thinking of it as a girl. Find out on March 6

Just looked into the whole passport thing - six weeks really would be cutting it fine. Think 10 weeks would be ok though, iggy.
Perhaps we'll use the money we would have spent on going to the wedding to have a little break somewhere else instead, a bit later on. Or we could just save the pennies, with maternity leave being such a strain anyway!

OP posts:
skihorse · 01/02/2010 10:59

iggy How do you know you're having a boy? Is it because you is posh and there's some sort of swap-system goes on at your posh hospital?

"Everyone" is convinced I'm having a girl due to the ms, I think it's a boy. At least it's not an artichoke like cossie!

Ah iggy with respect to your "I don't own a microwave" poshness you boasted about t'other day. In babydump, 6 bottles/steri-kit for microwave = 25 euros. Same kit which plugs in like a rice-cooker = 100 euros.

skihorse · 01/02/2010 11:00

We made a whole one decision last night, we has chosen the "Baby-bag" as our sling:

www.premaxx.com/en/products/baby-bag/index.aspx

Please to slag off/comment upon?

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 11:12

'Tis a giant bumbag ski! Nah, it looks good to me - for people with strong shoulders, which i expect you have given all your sporting activities. And I like all the pockety bits (sucker for organisation).

I was quite up for one like that till I remembers my shoulder gets sore just carrying a handbag on it for too long . Think I'll be going for something that distributes weight a bit more evenly.

As I have no experience in these matters, I expect we'll end up with more than one

OP posts:
iggypiggy · 01/02/2010 11:13

ski not owning microwave is not poshness is just that we haz no space for one and wouldn't use it anyway...

cas I guess 10 weeks would be ok - but not sure I'll want to! Would be different if was near home?

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 11:15

yeah, shock of new baby + strange surroundings is sounding less and less like a good combo, iggy. I think we'll head to my parents' place (six hours' drive at least) and not much further in the first few months.

OP posts:
skihorse · 01/02/2010 11:19

Curly Yes, I like the pockets and I like the fact that it can be positioned across the torso where you want rather than being fixed solely at the front. Also, it looks like good durable canvas that can be thrown through the washing machine. jailbait says we can use his bergen. You're right though, we're both strong so that won't be an issue. You're right though, more than one is a bloody given!

I'm worried about the baby bjorn type front-facing harness ones because of giant norks. I just can't see how it's going to fit.

I thought I felt "something" in my abdomen last night.

skihorse · 01/02/2010 11:21

"You're right though" is clearly my phrase of the day. Tssssssssssssssssssssssk!

Unless there is a PESH meet in September I'm not planning on going anywhere for a while. Parents may visit us.

Btw, I know cheggers and others voted London, but cossie is due August so it might be fairer to head nearer her? Anyone ever been to glamorous Birmingham?

iggypiggy · 01/02/2010 11:23

ski that looks cool - the sling thing... but i haz had back trouble - so i think i would go for a two shoulder weight distribution thing - rather than one - but like cas says - you prolly be strong innit

iggypiggy · 01/02/2010 11:33

I like this sling thing: www.connectababycarrier.com/

skihorse · 01/02/2010 11:38

iggy That's really cute - but I fear it's only available to the REALLY attractive couples!

Please to accept morning sickness for duration of pregnancy and to reject acne/excema/skin of witch?

iggypiggy · 01/02/2010 11:42

ski I meant to say - I poss haz horse plan now - there is girl at stable who haz outgrown her pony - teen girl - she might be interested in loan - then share from Autumn/ winter cos she will haz a-levels... Will wait and see tho...

Should also point out that I am not liking the ppaterns of those slings.. they do come in black tho...

skihorse · 01/02/2010 11:47

iggy That would be a nice idea - similar to mine. She gets to ride her all summer then in the Autumn we can share. Although I was a bit mithered on saturday - she texted me to say she wanted to ride on sunday so I asked her how it had gone on the hack with the YO earlier in the week. She said they'd not gone as YO decided it was too cold and the horses might be fresh. YO just came second in a fucking national dressage competition - I'm sure she can handle the odd bounce on a hack.

I rather liked the pattern. I'd never get it past jailbait though.

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 12:08

oooh liking the Birmingham idea - only an hour's drive for me

Like the carriers you linked to iggy. I have been looking at these

Glad you have a hoss plan. we've been thinking about what to do with mutley when I am in labour!?

OP posts:
iggypiggy · 01/02/2010 12:16

Ah didn't think of looking at the reviews on here! The one I linked to is reviewed too: Connecta review

I like the look of the one you like cas but can't see bloke liking it!

We haz dog plan - it is variable - depending on situation... but various people have keys and either the dog walker , MIL or other relative will look after mine..

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 12:24

Good review iggy - like the colour they used for the pic Think I need to find somewhere where we can go and play with these things...

Looks like we'll def have to have MIL come up and stay in house/look after dog while I'm in labour. Don't think it's really practical to have SFF popping home, and if it goes on a bit, dog will need company as well as walks.

Meant to say, being a cripple has its advantages - my say goes on anything to do with child transportation! "As long as it's comfortable for you", he says

OP posts:
skihorse · 01/02/2010 12:31

Ours will be in the living room I suppose wondering why mummy's making such a song and dance of things in the bedroom. We bumped in to an old man in the lift on saturday though who has offered to baby-sit the dogs - so I think if we need it we can bang on his door.

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2010 12:33

your poor dogs might be traumatised ski, perhaps best to give them to random stranger from the lift...

OP posts:
Cosmosis · 01/02/2010 12:34

don't forget my link up there ^^ to little possums for all your sling needs ladies.

skihorse · 01/02/2010 12:43

haha curly I'm hoping they'll take it on the chin. We have been er... "watched" in the past and they seem to take it all in their stride/can't tell anyone anyway.

Cossie Get-a-boasting!
