Hi all,
I'm starting this post on Wednesday night but have a feeling it'll take a while and I'll need to finish it off on Thursday morning!
Fudge - HUGE congratulations on the job!
Bunny - aww, I'm sorry you're feeling sick.
When in hospital the second time, I allowed them to inject me twice with Stemetil, and it worked wonders for the nausea. I was then able to swallow a Stemetil tablet and it was great too. I was then discharged and given a packet of the tabets to take home with me. On getting home, I read the enclosed leaflet and it said (in bold) that people with my medical condition should not take this drug. I immediately went to see my GP and she told me that, while the drug would (thankfully) never have posed a risk to my baby, it could have caused me (worst case scenario) to suffer paralysis of my limbs for about a week. Otherwise, maybe some cramps/pins and needles for a bit. I was lucky that nothing happened. Guidelines stated that the tablets should apparently only have been given to me as a last resort, and the first dose should have been very small, the second increased slightly, and so on, until I was up at full strength and they were sure that was okay. Anyway, the GP did say that as I hadn't reacted, I would be fine to keep taking them. Somehow, I just didn't trust them though. I don't like taking anything at the best of times and that REALLY put me off! So the short answer there would have been that yes, I was given tablets, but I chose not to take them. Bet you're sorry you asked now!
Chance - you need to take it easy and don't work too much! I hope you enjoy your duvet weekend anyway.
Thursday now, going to try and finish off all my catching up!
Yorkshire - I'm so sorry to hear how sick you are too. It's rotten, isn't it? You think ttc is the hard part - if only! It's so unfair! After wanting it SO badly, I think you should be able to sit back and enjoy it now that it's finally happened! Mother Nature really is cruel... x
Aww Bunny - I'm exactly the same as you - on a good day, I just worry things are wrong! Sooo silly, isn't it?! But somehow impossible to help yourself!
Fudge - lol at your baby brain! Yesterday, I went to work without my handbag. Meant I had to come home to collect it before going shopping after work. Came home, got distracted, and left without my bag again. Came back (luckily I'd only gone as far as the end of the road) and ran upstairs, with my car keys in my hand, to get the bag. Back downstairs again, and couldn't rememeber where my keys were. Thought I must have put them down while upstairs. So I ran back up, and when I reached the top, I caught sight of my reflection in the hall mirror - there were my keys, still in my hand! Now THAT'S bad! (Oh, and when I got to the shops, I left my phone in the car! )
Pixie - I'm so sorry to hear how bad you're feeling. I was the same - it almost got worse after twelve weeks. However (hopefully this'll give you hope and I won't jinx myself!), 14+6, 15 and 15+1 were my three sick-free days. I was then really bad on the Friday - as bad as I've ever been, to the point that I even ironed some pj's in case I'd have to go into hospital again. Then I had Saturday-Tuesday (four days this time!) without being sick. Yesterday I was a TINY bit sick, first thing, but almost nothing, and today, so far so good. 16+1 now. So here's hoping, but not being sick - I'd forgotten how good that felt! (Should probably add it's not all good, I'm still really very queasy, but I can live with that! )
Chance - glad to hear the Seabands worked for you too, and Hermya, I'm sorry they didn't for you. They were great for me Yorkshire. I'm convinced they're the reason I've not been back in hospital since I got them. As Chance says, the plastic bits do dig in, but I throw up every time I take them off (still - I had them off for an hour yesterday morning and that's when I was sick). So I've been wearing them 24/7 and have a little circular bruise on each wrist! But the way I see it, that's nothing compared to being sick all the time.
Hermya - I'm sorry to hear your boss was being a prat, but glad it worked out okay in the end. And no harm gushing! I don't know WHAT I'd do without my DH either! Aren't we all very lucky?! Lovely OHs, healthy little, very-much-wanted babies on the way.
Aly - yay! I'm glad you lied! See, I love this thread because it's full of so many familiar faces. Would've been horrible losing touch! So how are things with you now?! Are you believing it yet? I'm 16+1 and still can't quite get my head around the fact that it's really happening! Lol! Loved how you told your DH, by the way!
How did others tell their OHs? I drove to my DH's work, phoned him at lunchtime and asked him to go out to his car to check if I'd left my purse in it the night before. When I saw him, I beeped my horn, called him over, and showed him my test! I think he was a bit stunned, both to see me, and to hear the news!
Aly - the day I got my BFP, DH was working late. When he got home, we went straight out, got a bag of chips for dinner, and drove down to my family's house to tell them the news. By the time we got home, it was nearly midnight! The following day, I met my manager at work first thing, and told her (lots of H&S implications where I work). Then spent the morning risk assessing EVERYTHING. Met up again after work with another two managers, to see could they add anything to the risk assessments. By the time I got home, I was shattered. DH and I had dinner and were in bed at about 9pm! All very glamorous! During that time, I also went to the toilet countless times! Although my bladder wasn't affected by the pregnancy yet, every little twinge I felt, I was convinced AF had started! Oh, the other thing I did was I booked an appointment with my GP for as soon as possible. Had that three days after BFP. (Is that the kind of thing you were meaning?)
Oh, and I agree with Bunny - get that appointment cancelled!
Fulham - yay! Nearly there at last! Is it tomorrow you finish then?!
Ugh, I'm dreading the stretch marks. I remember seeing my friend's bump and being shocked at it. For some reason, when you think of a pregnant woman, you just think of a perfect, round bump, nice clear skin... Guess that's what you see in the media, isn't it? It's no more realistic than the Size 0 models, though. Anyway. Who cares? Stretch marks fade. And anything's worth putting up with, just to have your very own little baby in your arms. Can't believe you're so close either! Can understand you worrying, but just focus on the end result - holding little Lily in your arms. So exciting!
Curly - glad all's well just now.
Worrisome - your scan sounds amazing! That's what I had to do too - jiggle! Amazing to think you can directly affect your baby like that, isn't it?! After seeing the baby wake up, every time I move suddenly now, I picture the LO wriggling about! It's just wonderful!
That's one point, actually. DH and I were in two minds about whether or not to get the nuchal scan. We both agreed that we wouldn't abort, and wouldn't risk anything by having an amnio, so DH argued that there was no point in knowing. My view was that if our baby had Down's, I'd like a chance to come to terms with that before the baby was born, so that when it was born, I'd be focussing on all the same things - hair colour, size, fingers and toes, rather than on the fact that it was disabled. Anyway, DH agreed to the scan and I was SO glad he did. It meant a MUCH longer scan, because it took ages to get the measurements. If we hadn't wanted it done, I'd just have been in and out. So for that reason alone, I'd recommend it!
Bunny - when's your scan? My 20wk one's in 4wks too. 27th April.
November - I was the same, convinced that they'd find nothing in there when I went for my scan! Great news about the Down's test.
Pidgin - when I had my first scan (between 6 and 7 weeks), I thought I was having twin hamsters! Thankfully one was just the yolk sac! The twelve week scan is amazing - so different. Suddenly that little heart you saw flickering away has a very recognisable baby shape all around it! You'll see the nose, the chin, the arms, fingers... Like Hermya, I want a scan NOW!!! Lol! Wish I had Tom Cruise's money and I'd buy my own scanner (my mind's blank - what's the proper word for a "scanner"?! )
Pixie - I agree that celebrating 14hrs without being sick is pathetic... But I'm just as pathetic! Lol! Hurrah! Hope it lasts!
Oh, and like your scan, my dates went back at 6-7wks, and forward plus some at 12wks! Apparently the measurements at 6-7wks arent very reliable because the baby's really curled up. So, Pidgin, you never know!
Bunny - aww, your DH sounds lovely! I've done that with the stranding myself too though! Worst was when I'd been stuck on the sofa for about three hours. DH came home and I was in floods of tears (first time he's ever seen me properly cry!). I had no makeup on and looked a state. I was crying cause I needed to pee, but if I did, I knew I'd be sick! He went in and made me a sandwich (least smelly option) and as soon as he put it down, I had to run to throw up. In doing so, I kicked over the drink he'd brought me, which delayed me and made me miss the toilet (TMI)! I think I really scared him with my pathetic-ness, as he had to go out again, but when he came back, he had a lovely big bunch of white roses for me! Pregnancy is SO unglamorous!
Oh, and is it just me who thinks this is disgusting... Had a midwife appointment yesterday and brought a urine sample. I was given the container back to re-use!
Aly - how wonderful that your friend's pregnant at the same time! And great news about your HCG results. Can't believe 36 is "advanced maternal age"!
Hermya - I want a white cot too!
Aly - that's nuts about that woman! I keep kinda hoping something like that happens to Zippys - that all the negative tests are wrong and that one day, she'll just post and say that she's had a baby and has no more sickness! Rather daft, I know, but wouldn't it be lovely?! Sickness gone, and the baby she wants, all in one go! (I know, I'm mad! )
I'm glad to hear you're getting plenty of rest and the spotting's clearing up.
Pidgin - I think I could just about manage another puppy, but a baby AND a puppy - I'm not that brave!
Yay for Mumnerves! Oh, here's hoping for another run like January's! I've added Mumnerves to the list.
Lol! That's what you get for saying your dreams were getting boring, Hermya!
