...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

NovemberAli · 02/03/2010 15:22

Oh Welcome Pidgin and Yorkshire! Very exciting that graduates list will be complete before we know it!

Had to laugh at the thought of being knocked over by the pram Hermya. Don'y worry about the MS fading in and out, mine was constant from 6-9 weeks and then just made a couple of little reappearances and now seems to be gone for good - I think the only rule of MS is...there are no rules!

Hope your evil boss gets what's coming to her Fulham, just think though not long till you can wave goodbye and sail off into maternity leave

Hmm, nub theory is interesting - from my scan I have predicted a girl, but not sure if nub is actually a foot Have told DP I don't want to know at the 20 weeks scan (he has now agreed )so I will have to wait a while to find out if this is correct!

Anybody else been watching One Born Every Minute? I'm addicted!

fulhamgirl · 02/03/2010 15:33

Heya novemeber.

When is your 20 week scan? Have u got a date yet?
Yea I agree the MS does wave hello and goodbye there is no controlling it at all.
I didnt watch it at first but now I do lol!! My OH dont like watchin it but I think its good for him to watchit so he has a kinda good idea of different things to expect.

congrates of convincing hubby to find out the sex. lol see I was lucky my OH wanted to find out more than I did!! I always had a gut feeling it was a girl though!!

I know wohoooooo im outta here 1st April I cant wait.

Hermya321 · 02/03/2010 16:29

November I know, it was so random but I thought it was the funniest thing. LOL. I'm watching One Born Every Minute as well, I love it. My DH loves commenting on the idiotic behaviour of some of the partners on that show.

Fulham Oh don't I'm already trying to work out when I can get out of work and see on the sofa for a few weeks watching DVD's before LO arrives. Yep thats my plan for maternity leave, get off work, watch TV, have baby, panic, get used to it and go back to work. I think thats as good a plan as any. I might even go shopping as well, but lets not go too far.

I have to find out the sex, I want to see if my gut instint is on (it won't be, my guts are suprisingly stupid).

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/03/2010 17:54

fulham yeah the sonographer didnt seem too concerned at this stage, I suppose if the placenta is still low lying at the 36 week scan then they would start making plans but as for now Im still down for a natural birth.

I feel like my bump is pushing my insides up into my ribs in the middle, like into my breast bone its uncomfy when sitting/slouching.

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/03/2010 18:46

Just letting everyone know ive got my 20 week scan pic up on my profile now

WhiteRoses · 02/03/2010 20:14

Hi all,

Just catching up! Haven't posted for a few days and it seems like loads has been happening!

Casper - hope you're feeling better? You must be looking forward to the end of the week at any rate!

Fudge - lol at your bra making you feel 12/13! I hadn't even thought on that but it's so true!

Chance - how did you get on with the midwife?

Ozzie - sorry to hear you've been feeling uncomfortable, but glad you've been having fun shopping! I actually ventured into Mothercare on Sunday with DH... Shocked myself, looking at the price tags, but then had fun playing about with all the bits and pieces! Do you know, there was a pram there with a digital display on the handle that told you the temperature?! So you'd know if your baby was too hot or cold! A bit OTT, in my opinion, but fun to mess about with! Lol!

Fullham - lol at you only getting out of bed to eat a McDonalds! I'm sure it'll do you no harm whatsoever and must've felt wonderful!

Lol too at your hormones! Poor DH! Hopefully if he was that drunk though, he won't remember it! ;)

It's rubbish to hear you're feeling bad again though. But so close to the end! Very exciting! And do you know, I heard on a TV programme that I was watching about premature babies that if a baby's born at 28wks, it has a 98% chance of survival - that's pretty exciting, isn't it?

In the labour ward, I just want my DH. The reason being that I like the thought of our little family of three, starting out together. I think it's a very special time for DH and I, both becoming parents. And I also think that DH might feel like a bit of a spare part if my mum's there. I dunno. Very personal thing, I suppose...

Spireal - what a lovely plan - out for a nice lunch together before the scan.

I have a bit of a "thing" about the swing things (you mean the things that hang off the door frame?) They just don't seem as safe to me... I think we'll be opting for a bouncer (DH feels the same).

Hermya - I'm so sorry to hear how sick you've been. It's horrible, isn't it? BUT!!! Have you heard of Sea Bands? My midwife suggested them and I had no idea what they were. But I picked some up on Saturday. (From Boots - cost around £8.) Anyway, they're little wooly wrist bands with plastic "buttons" on. You position them very carefully on your wrists - it's all to do with acupressure - and it's meant to help with nausea. Now, I was sceptical, but, since wearing them, I've been sick twice. Once was on Sunday, when I put them on in the wrong position after my shower, and once was yesterday morning, and the right one had slid right round while I was sleeping... I know I'm getting up to twelve weeks now and am meant to be feeling better but the fact is, the only two times I've not had them on in the right spot, I've thrown up. Just wish I'd known about them earlier. I mean, I still feel a bit queasy when I wake up or am hungry, but there's a HUGE difference! And for the first time in weeks, I've enjoyed eating, as opposed to eating because I have to. I really can't recommend these little bands enough. Although I suppose they don't work for everyone... But for less than a tenner I'd say it's well worth the gamble? To potentially eleviate weeks' worth of sickness... I'd love to know if anyone else does get them, and what you think... Will feel really bad if you get them and notice no difference!

Fudge - how exciting! "Officially a pregnant person"! Lol!

Hermya - don't forget what my midwife told me... No matter what you eat, your baby will get enough - it'll take from you and that's why you feel lousy. Don't worry about eating rubbish. If you're keeping it down, that's the important thing. The baby's so small that it needs very very little. (My midwife said if all I ate in the day was a sugary bun, that was fine!)

Desperate - I'm reading through all the posts, trying to catch up, and am dying to get to yours and find out how the scan went!

Yorkshire - so delighted to see you here! You SOOO deserve it! Don't worry about catching up! I'm sure it'll just happen naturally as the days go on. So how are you feeling? I take it you've no symptoms? Good old February, like you always said!

Lol at your predictions Fullham! We told my MIL about the baby today and she's the first to openly state a preference. Said she'd love a granddaughter, after six sons. Mind you, I don't think she really cares that much! I lean towards a girl myself, to be honest, and DH a boy. But to be honest, we're not that pushed. Either or, so long as it's happy and healthy.

Excellent news about the hearing with your boss. She shouldn't be allowed to get away with that.

Desperate - how wonderful! (Would have been wonderful either way, mind you!) I love the name Dylan! Would have been on my short list if it wasn't for silly DH not being as keen as me! Anyway, first confirmed boy for us Frolickers too! (And well done, Curly! )

Lol, Hermya - you sound exactly like me! Almost happier when you're feeling rotten! Bizarre, eh?! But I'm sure it'll all be fine. Just enjoy feeling good for a change! x

Hermya - lol at your mishap in Boots! I'm sure the lady WAS mortified! I know I would be! Just glad you weren't hurt though!

November - nice to see you here. Yes, I'm definitely watching One Born Every Minute! (Making DH watch it too, so he knows how NOT to behave!) Tonight I'm going to be out visiting family and showing off scan pictures, so have it set to record.

Oh, and the nub theory... My baby doesn't seem to have a nub! Lol! Will need to scan the picture and get it on here so you can all give your opinions!

This is SUCH a long post...

Anyway, my update now! Four things of interest have happened really in the last few days...

  1. On Saturday morning, I looked in the mirror and thought to myself "I have a bump!" DH couldn't see any difference. I figured I was imagining it. Went and visited my mum and dad. Took my jacket off, and mum said "My goodness, your shape's totally changed - you're starting to show!" DH and Dad still couldn't see it (but they are men!) Then, yesterday, my manager at work commented! Said "Oh wow, Roses, the way you turned there, you looked like you had a little tiny bump!" And last night, as I was getting ready for bed, DH commented that yes, he could see my "bump"! It's only really a bit of a paunch, but I don't care! Lol! Very exciting as far as I'm concerned!

  2. We looked at baby stuff in Mothercare - but I've already told you about that!

  3. Sea Bands (see the bit I wrote to Hermya) and the lack of morning (all day, all night) sickness!

  4. Scan today! Baby was SOOO uncooperative in terms of them being able to get measurements, but that was great for us - meant the scan lasted a good 15-20mins! Exciting bit for me was when I was asked to wiggle my hips to make Baby move... After I did, it went mad, flailing arms and legs about! Makes me wonder how it reacts when I run up a flight of stairs, of drive into a pothole! Oh, and it stretched up at one point too, arm right up in the air... We could see the fingers, and then its elbow bending... And then it rubbed its eye... It's a real baby, you know! Lol! Anyway. New due date too, heading back in the direction of my birthday! () Lol!

Okay, going to post this now. It's FAR too long and I've got nothing done in the house!

Huge congratulations and a very warm welcome to yorkshire and pidgin its great to have you over here

fulham im liking you predictions - we have decided to wait and have a surprise Ouch at your sores,Ã?Â?have you seen the doctor about them?

hermya glad to hear your feeling a bit better today i have been feeling a bit icky today, but i have no way of knowing if its MS kicking in or somthing else LOL at your RTA in boots

grumpy good luck at the scan

So happy for you desperate Dylan is a fab name fingers crossed for the next scan.Ã?Â? just seen the scan pic and its amazing!!

roses i knew someone who had a pram with the temp thing on it, i think i offended her by sayingÃ?Â?"what the f'ing point in that then?"

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/03/2010 20:53

Thanks roses and fudge we are so happy with our little man! I really had my heart set on Dylan too so really glad its a boy, of course would have been over the moon either way but had started to really love the name Dylan.

Yeah hopefully placenta will move up in time, Ive heard many stories today since Ive told people and they have all been successes so really hoping mine is too

addie81 · 02/03/2010 21:42

Just a quickie from me, I am swamped with work. I felt like I had to say something about the co-sleeping post from curly casper. I know it's none of my business how you look after your baby, but one of my best friends is a different kind of lawyer to me, crown prosecution service deaths unit, and in her professional capacity she has attended THREE post mortems of very young babies, all of whom were crushed/smothered by their parents. Two in bed and one on a sofa. Sorry to be so grim, but I would not go near co-sleeping with a ten foot pole after hearing her stories, and I feel duty bound to pass it on. She said it was the most traumatic thing she has ever had to do for work, and she regularly has to look at the bodies of people who have been brutally murdered. The families were understandably totally devastated in every case and wishing that they had done things differently.

chancewouldbeafinething · 02/03/2010 22:09

Hi All,

Very tired so this is just a quick one....

I have to come back tomorrow and read the nub theory...

fulham lol you think i am having a girl - our name for a girl is LILY!!

yorkshire great to have you here!

Havent read the rest yet hope all ok.

My MW appoint on monday was great (long almost 1.5 hours), she is lovely, gave me enough to read for the next 6 months!

But my big news - 1 was sick twice today It has finally got me, I had a banana before i left for work, should have had more...it was a bad day.

Have to go to bed now will fill in the gaps tomorrow ....and find out about your scans xxxx

PS: anyone done ISO certification at work before? I have the audit this week and its huge!

Ozziegirly · 02/03/2010 22:33

Hello everyone and congratulations to yorkshire that's wonderful news! Yipppeee!

desperate the name Dylan is really nice, lovely that you have found out - I think we will probably find out too.

Interesting that you think I'm having a boy fulham - I have no gut feeling myself - like Hermya my guts are also dumb and never tell me anything.

I think a boy is probably more likely based on when we conceived and also the fact that DH's family is very boy heavy, plus I've had no MS, but then neither did my Mum and I turned out as a girl!

I don't mind either way - advantages and disadvantages to both I reckon.

Pidgin · 03/03/2010 08:25

Hello ladies! Very excited to be on the grads thread and thanks for the welcomes.

I've got my first GP appointment this morning - I presumed they wouldn't want to see me for a while but the receptionist told me to come in asap. I'm looking forward to getting some reassurance as I'm feeling a bit worried by lack of symptoms at the moment - no sickness, metallic taste, breast changes etc - it's funny, I'm trying to symptom spot now more than when I was in the 2ww, and I know I'm pg! Spent most of yesterday trying to work out whether I have a heightened sense of smell...

Ozziegirly I just saw you had no MS too, did you have other symptoms?

I know I should be grateful not to have MS and so on - and I really am - but I can't help worrying that it means something is not right - even though the logical part of my brain knows that's not the case.

I can worry about anything.

Anyway it's nice to see lots of familiar faces here and look forward to hearing how you're all doing.

Pidgin · 03/03/2010 08:27

also meant to say, thanks for the link Hermya!

DesperateHousewife21 · 03/03/2010 08:47

addie thats exactly why DS wont be sleeping in our bed when hes born. I dont want to take any chances and Ive heard they shouldnt if the parent(s) smoke either (I dont smoke but DP does) as that can cause infant death.

Thanks ozzie I just cant wait to meet him now and ive still about 20 weeks to go!

pidgin congrats! I didnt have MS either, in fact I didnt really have any symptoms at all, apart from the missed periods and pos test results you wouldnt have thought I was pregnant. 2nd trimester was different though, car journeys can make me feel sick now and Im getting backache so maybe you'll "bloom" in the 2nd trimester lol.

Ozziegirly · 03/03/2010 09:32

pidgin yes I had no symptoms at all, literally nothing for the first trimester apart from missed periods.

We didn't tell anyone until I had the dating scan at 10 weeks as part of me was convinced that they would tell me I had imagined the whole thing!

Even now my only symptom is some low down pain, which I have researched after posting a thread on here, and it seems to be "round ligament pain".

But honestly, until probably last week (week 15!) I wouldn't have known that I was pregnant, I have only put on 2 lbs, nor do I have a bump yet (although my jeans are tight).

THank goodness for scans!

Everyone reacts differently to the hormones I think. I never used to get PMS or any other pre period symptoms either so I think I am just not very sensitive to these things.

DesperateHousewife21 · 03/03/2010 10:41

I was exactly the same as you ozzie except I was in maternity jeans at 16 weeks lol.

Just went through a really horrible sick/faint spell I had to sit down and felt really breathless it wasnt v nice at all

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 03/03/2010 12:11

Morning all,

Still seems a bit off to be posting here, it hasn't really sunk in yet!

Good luck with your appointment pidgin. I went to the GPs yesterday (we had the appointment booked already, it was supposed to be to get our referral to the fertility clinic!). The doctor disappointingly unexcited by our news. He referred me to the midwife and said I'd need an appointment for a few weeks hence. The receptionist (who seemed much more impressed with our news and said congratulations as soon as I handed her the referal form) said she thought it needed to be at 8 - 10 weeks and made me an appointment for 22nd April. I'm now worried that its too late. I am 4+4 currently, and if I stick with the appointment I've been given, I'll be 11+5. I'm a bit concerned that that is quite late for a first appointment.

How soon did everyone else get their first appointment?

pixiestix · 03/03/2010 12:23

Hey Yorks - I'm not going to have my first midwife appointment until about 14 weeks for one reason and another, so I wouldn't panic if I were you. Just make sure you get your 12 week scan booked in, thats the most important bit!

Sorry to everybody else, I promise I will post a decent sized message soon! Just so so busy at work, and so knackered when I get home. Glad to hear that everyone is "cooking" nicely though!!!

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 03/03/2010 13:40

Thanks pixie. I have no idea how we go about booking the scan - was assuming that the midwife would tell me at my booking appointment. I checked on NHS Choices and it says you'll get your records and scan appointment at the first midwife appointment, so I figured I'd best change the date. Am now booked in for first appointment on 1st April. That gives me less time to fret (and will also mean that DH might agree to letting us tell people a bit sooner. He thinks we shouldnt go public until I've seen the midwife and its all official!)

Hermya321 · 03/03/2010 13:41

Afternoon ladies, well I'm having quite a good week this week. I was supposed to be on a course but the guy who was running it didn't turn up (typical), so when that happened I took the oppurtunity to use up some leave and so have ended up with a few unexpected days off. Which has meant that I've been able to rest up and sort myself out in terms of ms and etc. I've mostly watched TV and whiled away the hours on Mumsnet but sometimes thats what you need to do. The positive is that I now feel a bit like my normal (albiet pregnant) self. How is everyone else?

Oooo funny thing, I was driving home and ended behind a car that had 666 in it's number plate and it was red. It made me laugh, I had the image of the evil one driving round in his little red car doing his evil deeds.

Pixie I hope you're resting properly!

Yorkshire Docs are typically underwhelmed by these things, I'm glad the receptionist was happy for you though.

Desperate Ooo I hope you're alright.

Ozzie I wish I wasn't a slave to my hormones, I'd forgotten how moody I could get before I went on the pill. I tell you now as soon as LO is born. I'll be back down the docs to find a suitable hormone replacement.

Fudge Thanks!! I'd put everything that happens to you down to your pregnancy especially random cravings for Crunchy nut cornflakes.

White I'm going to pop down to boots tomorrow and get some, I've had enough of the nausea. If they don't work, I'll ebay them. It was nice to hear about your scan, I bet it was lovely to see LO being so active. I can't wait for mine.

DesperateHousewife21 · 03/03/2010 18:52

hermya Im fine now, just lasted about 15 mins I think its where everything inside is shifting around, I honestly dont feel I have enough space inside my body for everything to be pushed around!

WhiteRoses · 04/03/2010 08:06

Fudge - that's interesting to see you're waiting to find out the gender. I agree, it would be a nice surprise, but I'm just not patient enough! Lol!

And lol at you questioning your friend's temperature thing! Oops!

Desperate - have just seen your scan! It's amazing how much more "in proportion" Dylan looks now! And his chin too, is so much clearer... Was he quite active during the scan?

Ugh, Addie, that's horrible about the co-sleeping. I wouldn't have done it anyway because I'd have been too nervous - I sleep very heavily sometimes - but I can see the attraction. It must be lovely to snuggle up with your LO. But still... Ugh!

Chance - great news about your midwife appointment. Sorry to hear about the sickness though... It's so horrible! Did you read my post about the sickness bands? I can't praise them enough. I have still felt queasy, but haven't been sick once with them on since Saturday. (Sick twice with them off/wrongly positioned though...)

Pidgin - I worried about lack of MS too, believe it or not, and Curly reassured me, telling me that hers hadn't kicked in till about 6wks... I got sick at 6+1 and it hasn't stopped since! Just try and enjoy feeling normal and don't worry!

Desperate - are you serious?! You felt WORSE in the second trimester?! I'm counting down the days till I'm into my second trimester, banking on feeling better then! That's what's keeping me going!

Ozzie - you're making me very jealous - no pregnancy symptoms and no PMT?! Lucky!

I've lost, rather than put on weight. But I have changed shape... My trousers no longer fasten and (especially at night) there's quite a round little bulge! Very odd though!

Yorkshire - I saw my GP at what we thought was 4+4 (scan's since told us it was actually 6+2). He referred me to midwife's next clinic, which we thought was at 5+2wks (actually 7). She made horrible comments about it being too early to see me before 6wks, like I'd probably lose the baby anyway - bitch! I then changed GP practice and saw new GP at 8+2 (thought it was 6+4) and he referred me to new midwife's next available clinic, at 9wks (thought it was 7+2). She was lovely. I was in hospital between seeing second doctor and second midwife though, and, again, everyone was lovely there. So my experience was that both doctors thought it best to refer me asap, but that one very nasty midwife thought it should've been at/after 6wks... Hope that's helpful! I'd say it's up to you. There probably is no rush but personally, I'd like to be in the system, and to have a person to contact if I needed advice...

Oh, and don't feel funny about posting here... You've earned your place here more than most of us! It's just great to have you at last! Those TTC'ers hogged you for far too long!

Ugh, just read your second post there and that makes all of the above irrelevant! Lol! Oh well! I'm glad you got your appointment changed though. So are you going to tell everyone once you've been to the midwife? I've STILL not told everyone. Just my closest friends and family. I'm dying to tell everyone else, like colleagues at work, but need to get round to phoning all the elderly relatives first, before it ends up on Bebo or Facebook and they end up hearing through the grapevine! It'll be time-consuming though, ringing round, so I'll wait till the weekend for that, when I'm not working. And then I'll tell work-people on Monday. Can't wait!

Hermya - glad to hear you've had a nice relaxed time of it. Really hope those bands work for you too. I know they don't work for everyone, but my thinking was that even if it cost £8 to take the edge off it, it was money well spent.

Oh, and the scan was AMAZING! We were on such a high afterwards!

Well now I suppose I'd better get on... Have SO much washing to do, it's unbelievable! Today I'm dow to my last pair of socks! The place is also covered in dust! Just as well I have a late start at work!

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 04/03/2010 08:33

roses yeah he was really really active at the scan! It was at 10am and hes always active in the mornings. At the beginning of the scan he was facing downwards which wasnt the best postition, so she showed us a lovely shot of his spine which looked so perfect! Then he turned up the other way (the way he is in my pic) which was better cos then the sonographer could get all the measurements but cos he was moving all his limbs she got so many lovely shots of a foot/hand/leg/arm etc. At one point he stretched out his whole leg up the length of his body hes very flexible! He also waved at one point
Sorry to go on so much about it but its amazing to me!

Hi all! Sorry for the silence... I have actually got an excuse this time. Been struck down with a common cold for the last few days, so mostly lolling about in bed feeling very sorry for myself and lamenting the forbidden Lemsip and decongestants. Between DH and I having alternate colds, we've been single handedly keeping the tissue companies going this season, I think.

Dragged myself into work today (despite feeling like death warmed up and having had a mighty 4 hours of throat-ripping, mouth-breathing sleep) because I'm only working a half day. Got the afternoon as holiday for my scan at 2pm. LGI is two streets away from where I work, so since I was coming into the city anyway I figured may as well MN work the morning and avoid having to try and bribe persuade my GP to give me a sick note to explain three days of absence for nothing more serious than sleep-depriving sniffles.

Little annoyed though that my colleague that helpfully gave me the damn cold (and isn't expecting) also dragged herself in for similar sick-note reasons, complained how awful she was feeling and just got herself sent home for the day! And she can actually take meds for it. Oh well... I'll just console myself in the fact that evidently I'm made of sturdier stuff than she is.

Anyway, that's my gripe for the moment out of the way. Thanks for reading, if you made it this far!

Glad to hear things are mostly going ok for people! I used Sea Bands too, WhiteRoses, with reasonable effect. They didn't magically cure the MS, but I found they did take the edge off it so that I could ignore it and get on with my work (as long as I ate regularly) rather than spending my whole time hunched over and eyeing up the distance to the bathrooms.

Glad your scan went well, DesperateHousewife! Dylan is a lovely name. I can't wait for my scan - just three hours to go! DH and I are going to be finding out the gender, if they can tell us, and I'll likely post up about it later with the pic(s).

However, even if we do find out, we're going to be telling most people IRL that they couldn't tell at the scan, so shhh! Plan is to only tell our immediate families - mostly because my Mum is busy knitting clothes and wants to know the best guess on which side the buttons should go!

We have lists of names for either gender, but I doubt DH and I will finalise the name until we have the LO in our arms. A couple of reasons... Firstly that they might not 'look' like the name we've chosen when they turn up. Secondly that, having had a MC, we're a little wary about 'using up' our chosen name ahead of time. For the moment, until birth, LO is endearingly known as Gadget!

It's not just you that it's amazing to, Desperate - I love hearing about it - it definitely IS amazing! Before my scan, I knew (well, hoped - pessimist that I am!) that there was a baby in there, but I still can't believe what I saw... Little nose and chin, fingers, elbows... It really WAS a baby! Lol! I'm dying to get to the 20wk scan and know the gender. Then it'll be a he or a she, and will have a name, instead of just "the baby"! Gosh, no wonder you're so excited! (I love this thread! )
