Chulita and Dried - yes apparently you can't compare the two at all. Don't let the emerg one put you off. After hours of attempted natural labour and all that struggling and the fact that sometimes an emergency section is done with a certain amount of urgency, it can make for a difficult and lengthy recovery I've been told by consultants. Not the case with elective - quite the opposite for most cases. Of course there are going to be exceptions, but on the whole it's the case.

Dibby, what an awful nurse. Obviously a bitter woman. nearly 35 is by no means old. thats the same age I was with ds1. You will be fine, ignore her

driedapricots · 13/01/2010 16:23

ah dibbydab that's all the hormones..and that's what we're here for what you're worring about is what i'm sure most of here are also worrying about too, i know i am with you on the missed miscarriage thing. but i'm sure all will be fine.
sorry about your trips...therein lies the first problem with motherhood in my experience- sacrifice!!

and chulita i am not suprised you want an elective c-sect this time, it sounds like you had a terrible time with your first. what's stopping you enquiring about it?

Aussieng · 13/01/2010 16:25

(((hugs))) dibby. I had a nearly sleepless night before my scan with exactly those same worries (and I'm usually a what will be will be kind of person too) and there is a whole thread about how worried people get - you are not alone. I think having the bloods done first makes you think about the risks more clearly which is probably why it has hit home. Hope your DH gives you extra hugs and reassurance and the nuchal scan gives you as much reassurance as it did me - on the plus side you get really lovely clear pictures.

are you sure you couldn't make it the the Carribean at least....

Chulita · 13/01/2010 16:37

It's the fact of having a 20mth old and a newborn that puts me off, DH probably not getting paternity leave coupled with us moving when LO is about 4 wks old, it would be soooo hard post cs. [sigh] it's not knowing whether I can actually give birth naturally and the thought of another battle and then a cs anyway...I don't know. DD was back-to-back and face presenting and although I told them she was the wrong way round for weeks, they didn't believe me until the very end. Once they'd fisted me good and proper they realised she wasn't coming out. Really don't trust MW when they say what position the baby's in now! Sorry, this is playing on my mind regardless of how much I try and ignore it...need to get hold of my notes I think!

Freezingmyarseoff · 13/01/2010 16:40

Hello
Can I join this thread too? Have been lurking a bit but decided to pluck up the courage to post! Am expecting on 21 Aug (depending on which calculator I use), it will be DC2. Seem to have v few symptoms at moment, apart from no AF, so feeling a bit worried - although perhaps I'm bit more hormonal than normal so that could be a sign.

babyducky · 13/01/2010 16:46

Hi

can i join you?

have been lurking for a few weeks!
I am due 21st aug, this will be my second, I have a 3 year old ds aswell.

Looking forward to chatting with you all! x

driedapricots · 13/01/2010 16:46

chulita sorry but really just LOL at them 'fisting you good and proper'.... and still am chucklinmg now...that's a charming way of putting it!!! ..But they do, don't they?!! sorry first-timers!
but on a serious note, yes, i know what you mean about it being hard afterwards. i'd go for it though on the 'what if' basis...

welcome freezing!

Rubena · 13/01/2010 16:54

chulita I will have a 20 month old as well, and possibly moving house 4 weeks after - how funny!

mrsZaC · 13/01/2010 17:18

welcome ducky&freezing

big cuddles from me too dibbydab, I'm sure everything will be hunky dorey, but it's hard not to worry... I worry about it all the time as I'm sure most do but try to put things to the back of my head, least you'll have piece of mind soon . I had my "meh" the last couple of days as I found out my friend had an private scan @9 weeks and got to see her healthy bean with a cracking heart beat and I was feeling so down as I'm not getting a scan till late february but cuddles from DH help, sleep and trying to send positive vibes to your bean

Twinkle2010 · 13/01/2010 17:22

Hi,
Can I join as well? I am due on 21 August. This is my first.I am a bit scared.Only from second urine test at GP got a pregnancy confirmation.Seen my GP allready as well, wasn't very imformative, checked blood preasure and weight.Had my blood test as well.GP said that hospital will contact me with midwife appiontment. How long should I wait?Otherwise feel good, somtimes feel a bit sick in the evenings and do not want to eat. Sometimes I think maybe I am not preganat at all.Just so confused. Would really appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance.

Chulita · 13/01/2010 17:22

That's what I love about MN rubena, you think you're the only one who's got it this bad and then someone pops up either with the same situation or something worse and ruins all your right to self-pity

Rubena · 13/01/2010 19:24

Chulita, I am fine about it - not phased at all. Also my family are on the other side of the world so wont be here, however dh will be able to take PL. Have the elective, you will be amazed at the difference.

BunnyBaby · 13/01/2010 20:01

Wow welcome 21st August ladies! You all popped up at once!

Discovered hot Pret swedish meatball wrap yummy!

Told work today and my boss is thrilled for me. Am lucky to be in family friendly organisation. Will begin mat leave this time at 30 weeks 28th May yippee! Worked to 38 weeks last time, I was exhuasted and DS went so overdue I was induced at 40+18! Therein followed a 3 day labour as DS posterior and moved round. Thankfully managed instrument free delivery, but still stitches and ahem piles! A friend said natural oxycotin takes 6 weeks to build ready to trigger labour, so I'm not risking it again. I remember my stretch marks were just below belly button at 40 weeks, then shot up massively after then.

Just one more day left until my wekend starts ( don't work Fridays) feeling tired just like everyone else. Trying to eat better but failing

BunnyBaby · 13/01/2010 20:02

On a positive note, 12 week scan a week today when I'll be exactly 12 weeks - hooray!

bouncingblueberries · 13/01/2010 20:07

Rubena and chulita if it helps, a very good friend of mine had a terrible birth experience with dd1 - 72 hours of labour, no sleep, vomiting then ended up emergency c-section. Recovery was a long time coming for her. With dd2 she opted for an elective c-section and said it was a dream birth experience for her. She knew exactly what to expect, she felt completely calm, relaxed and in control and 5 minutes after the birth exclaimed "wow, I'd do that again tomorrow!". Five months on, she still feels really positive about having an elective c-section and knows without a doubt that it absolutely was the best decision for her. To help her recover she made sure she had lots of help around after the birth and even hired a cleaner so she wouldn't have to worry about housework so much (no an option for everyone of course!). But her recovery was pretty quick.

bouncingblueberries · 13/01/2010 20:12

Welcome ducky and freezing

That's great bunnybaby - gives me hope for when I tell my work! I've told my art director who I work very closely with and she reckons they'll be fine. They've been marvellous with giving me flexible working ever since I started and understand completely the demands of being a working parent. So that gives me hope.

Feeling a bit less sorry for myself this evening (must be those non-snotty healthy vibe chulita!) dibby sometimes people just open their mouths and let their bellies rumble - or they would as well, given the nonsense that comes out!

Rubena · 13/01/2010 20:30

Bouncing - no I'm fine - I had the same experience as your friend. Very nice experience and am definitely doing it again, without a doubt. Just trying to reassure chulita how much better it wll be if it's planned - it's lovely

Freezingmyarseoff · 13/01/2010 20:36

Yeah funny how we popped up at the same time. Hello especially to Ducky and Twinkle.

Chulita I had an elective c-section for DD, and will have to have one this time too for same reasons, and it was totally fine. I recovered really well and the MW on the ward could hardly believe I'd had a c-section at all 3 days later. I don't have anything to compare it to but just to say an elective doesn't have to scary or be a problem for recovery. I know it'll be a bit different having a toddler around too but guess we're just going to have to manage somehow! (my DD will be 23 months)
And I know how you feel about the moving thing, we're meant to be getting an extension built before the next one arrives but all the builders have told us that it will take 6 months and there's no way we can start until end of March, so all abit unknown at the moment.

Doodleydoo · 13/01/2010 22:26

I am thinking about csec as my dd was emcs, but we live in the middle of nowhere now and the thought of not being able to drive makes me want to cry, alot! Had a quick pre supper kip so am now awake which is very annoying!
Welcome newbies, we are very very friendly I think!

cakeywakey · 13/01/2010 23:09

Hello everyone new, and so sorry to everyone who's miscarried. Good luck to you all if and when you TTC again.

It's been interesting to read about Csecs, as I am probably going to have an Elective CS for this baby (as long as all goes well of course). I had a fourth degree tear with DD and was told that I could be left doubly incontinent if I tried a VB again.

Am very impatiently waiting for my booking in appointment so that I can bring it up and find out where I stand. I'm on antother thread about third and fourth degree tears and there's no consensus of opinion from either Mums or the professionals they're dealing with.

Also, really, really hoping my scan date comes through soon as everything suddenly seems to have 'settled' and I'm not feeling as pregnant anymore. Had hardly any symptoms with DD though, so trying not to worry. (Which is ironic, as a few weeks ago I was telling other expectant mums on another thread not to worry about exactly the same thing!)

Sorry to go on - I'm just having one of those days.

Chulita · 14/01/2010 08:36

I'm sure you're fine cakey, Tuesday I felt amazing and had no symptoms at all and then they all started up again yesterday!

I'm going to chat through elective cs with the MW (if she turns up today). I really wanted a HB with DD and tend towards the more natural less intervention stuff but ... I don't know, DH is really against me having a cs because it scares him and the recovery was so long this time (even if an elective is better, he doesn't know that!) It's a big decision to make especially because I don't want this to be my last LO so if I choose a cs I'll most likely have to have one for subsequent babies.
Sorry everyone, I'll end this chatter about cs now, it'll probably crop up later on anyway

Welcome to the new ladies!

Rubena · 14/01/2010 09:08

Hello,
I'm assuming bloods need to be done by the time of the first scan? I have a scan in a week and a half to which they have said bring my notes, however I've never seen a midwife, and don't have any
I am going to a hospital which is out of area and not attached to my GP so they are all very confused. Betteer call the GP today I think....

Alicetheinvisible · 14/01/2010 09:28

Morning

I have just walked to the shops (with DD) in the pouring rain because i had to have cereal for breakfast and we had run out

I had an emcs with DD and was surprised how quickly i healed. I was driving within a week(it is fine as long as your insurance and Dr give the go ahead) and was back to helping with the horses within 10days (doing them myself after 2weeks) I was back on my horse after 3 weeks (literally only walked up and down the yard) and i feel i would have taken longer to recover if it had been a natural birth.

I am not sure about this one though, i am still thinking it would be nice to try for a natural birth, but with the tests i am having for my heart it may not be an option.

Miamla · 14/01/2010 09:32

morning all! i'm a aug 08 graduate so feels very strange to be posting here! i got a bfp on new year's eve and think i'm due end of aug so DS will be 2.1 when DC2 arrives. Pleased to see i'm not going to be the only one on here with a newborn and toddler!

feeling pretty relaxed about it all ie re having two DCs but my mind won't be at ease until at least after 1st scan. i've finally got the medical ball rolling this morning by booking a doc's appt for next week so that's something, right?

anyhow, i was only popping on to say hi so i'll stop babbling now!

BunnyBaby · 14/01/2010 09:39

bouncingblueberries I think you'll be fine, my work are good about flexible working etc too. Also we have people here going for ivf etc. And no-one ever tajes umbradge. I just feel like a piggy until I've had my scan and seen baby there.
