Hey Ladies we have reached the big 1000 so I thought another thread needed to be started

I am currently doing 3 days a week and plan to give up 4 weeks before edd and go back when babe is 6mo. I took 9months with dd, went back when she was 8mo and was really ready to go back by then, I found 6mo to 18mo really hard work, is nice to have time when I'm not mum. I would really like to start doing more days, but I'm not sure how much better off we will be with 2 in nursery.

Good luck with teacher training WM first 2 years are the worst What age/subject are you planning on?

stac14 · 28/01/2010 21:51

thanks ladies I will have a look for the knitting mag

I'm not working at the moment as was in a car crash and had to give it up but think I will need to do a year at college before I go back. I work in the social care sector and you need various qualifications to become a registered worker. Or with any luck try to get something part time as I am bored now lol

mmm chips and coleslaw, I also like them with salad cream

My current plan is to take the full year's mat leave, plus annual leave on either end, and go back part time ideally. I haven't talked to my boss about this but it is a pretty common thing to do where I work (university admin) so hopefully it should work out.

stac14 · 28/01/2010 23:51

soz meant to ask, whats that mag called? Thanks

kk and wonder I'm passionate about the English language (saddo) and it really upsets me to hear how many children leave primary school not being able to read and write. I figured a few years ago I can sit on my bum and whinge about the state of the world we live in and criticise shops for mis-spelt signs every time I drive past one, or I can try to make a difference. So, that's the long-winded way of saying I want to teach primary! Lol I genuinely believe if you don't make a difference to the way kids learn / think about things before they start secondary school it's often too late. Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now...

Spirael · 29/01/2010 09:12

Morning all! Never been a fan of coleslaw, so it's all yours for anyone craving it. I'll stick with the chillis... I can't get enough of spicy food! My tolerance for it at the moment is amazing, I can out eat my DH for spice for the first time ever.

I'm planning on spending my annual leave for the year to finish working at 35 weeks, then start my maternity leave at 39 weeks. That takes me through to approximately Easter. After then, I'm hoping to come back to work full time. (Need the money-! I earn more than DH.)

DH is hoping to be able to work part time at that point, mostly so he gets an opportunity to care for and bond with the LO better. For times when he's working, we're hoping to find a nursery or a child minder.

That's the current plan... We'll see how well it works out.

I was considering taking up knitting to do once I finish up with work. Mostly to give me something to do while I'm sat at home by myself for weeks on end, waiting for LO to make their grand entrance. I believe knitting is fairly traditional for that point! Anything to preserve my sanity, really. Though it might be too late for that...

stac14 · 29/01/2010 09:39

winter thats a wonderful reason to become a teacher. My sil had an arguement with a teacher who was accepting incorrect spelling, saying the kids were too young to know better. When i was at school if you miss spelled something you were made to copy it out 5 times so you knew in future. So i totally agree with you. Now i will come off my soap box lol

spireal i'm definately going to take up something i am so bored lol

Hows everyone today? We have snow again, think ds's footy match will be cancelled tomorrow, he wont be amused lol xx

Morning everyone

Chips with mayo has always been my weakness, yum!

Im also not working atm, I had a temp job before xmas and havent been able to find another one since and as time is getting on everyone is saying no one will hire me as im preg, of course I dont have to tell them im pregnant but it will be v obv soon and I wont get the paid time off for app etc.
Also we're moving in 2 weeks (yay!) so that complicates things further.

Im off to see my mum today, she usually does bacon rolls on a Fri so im hoping she will have them again, she has fridays off work so its become a regular thing me going round there. She only lives 5 min car ride away, v handy

Hope everyone has a lovely day, shame about the weather, roll on spring!

Wonderstuff · 29/01/2010 11:22

I wish you all the luck in the world WM I teach secondary SEN, we had 8 children come up last year with a reading age below 7, and it is so hard to teach them at secondary, one has progressed 3 years in a term with intervention - which really makes you wonder what the primary school was doing!
Quite jealous of you who can bank your annual leave, I effectively lose my holidays this year, should have planned an August/Sept baby I guess

My house is a total pigsty and I have no motivation to tidy, we need toy storage - may pursuade dh to do an ikea trip at the weekend

Chulita · 29/01/2010 12:43

Sorry stac, was in bed at 9 last night. The mag I got is the 'let's get crafting' one, it's knitting this month. Comes with wool and (supposedly) needles, only mine had no needles with it. Patterns are gorgeous though!
I'm not working, couldn't find a job after getting married despite over 30 applications so started a family. I sway between wanting to work pt and not wanting to miss any of DD, but being a ft sahm does my nut sometimes Still, with DH moving so much with work, it's very hard to get a job anyway.
wonder, we got this for DD's toys (different colours though) and it's really good. It's in the lounge cos that's where most of her toys are but it's brilliant.

stac14 · 29/01/2010 12:59

were do you get it chulita? Know what you mean about it being borin staying at home. Maybe i should go to the library or something. Were are you from originally?

wonder it must be so difficult for you as a teacher and the kids themselves. I don't think what we have been tslking about goes for all primary teachers, my son has had some fab teachers. But one when he was 7 told me was deaf, she completely destroyed his confidence, luckily all teachers following this have been great. I'm not the only parent who has had problems with this women.

So i think its great for anyone to get into teaching with the right attitude. Oops soap box again soz x

stac - I grew up in Africa but my parents had a house in St Albans, Hertfordshire so I suppose I'm from there originally [confused emoticon]
After the fiasco with the crochet mag I subscribed to it, they do a different craft each month so if you don't get on with knitting they might do card-making or cross-stitch or somesuch next month. here, although they do sell it in WHSmith's if you're quick

tsc - I really hope things work out for you soon. That's really crap How old is DD2? Any chance of erm...I know nothing of childcare...shutting her in an empty room with a ball or something?

Chulita · 29/01/2010 15:12

Eek! DD's only 9 months off being 2

DesperateHousewife21 · 29/01/2010 16:37

Hi all, my mum bought me a pregnancy magazine today and it came with a free baby name book which me and DP are going to have a look at together tonight, its nice to keep him involved as much as poss.

Anyone decided on any names or got any ideas on what u might like?

Chulita · 29/01/2010 16:58

I like Samson or Heidi. Still not entirely settled on Heidi but it's the only one we've thought of that we both like. I love the name Daisy but DH isn't keen!

WinterMadness · 29/01/2010 17:56

I'm going to apply to do the Gaduate Teacher Trainng Programme when applications open in September kk. I'd rather do my training in a school then it's 'hands-on'.

The only names I love are Miles for a boy and Lois for a girl. I've really got my heart set on Lois so really hope dh doesn't veto it!

Emster30 · 29/01/2010 18:32

Evening all - happy Friday! What a week. I'm really looking forward to my glass of wine of the week tonight, together with home-made pizza and Ben & Jerry's. Yum.

We both like James and Zoe but beyond that I'm keeping an open mind. DH shoots all my suggestions down but doesn't suggest any himself which is depressing.

Wonderstuff · 29/01/2010 19:55

I love Lois too. I think dh vetoed it last time, can't remember. Dh generally hates all the names I set my heart on, we haven't started discussing it yet, but have agreed that we will wait until baba is a couple of days old before finally deciding - last time dh texted the name we had in mind to all whilst I was in a bit of a pethidine haze - I like dd's name, but her middle name doesn't go with her first name and I regret not having a proper converstation about it after she was born. I called her baby girl for at least 6 months!

Chulita we have the trofast for dd's clothes, which works well atm, the problem I have is where to put anything new. I have a beautiful bookcase I inherited that isn't at all baby friendly (has glass doors) and is in the way but I don't want to get rid of it, I'm hoping a friend/family member might give it a home for a couple of years, and there will be more room in the next house (we've only been in this house for 2 months).

stac14 don't get me wrong there are some fantastic things happening in primary, but I really believe that all schools should take time to teach all children to read every day until they crack it, too many kids with SEN seem to slip though the net and if they aren't properly dealt with in primary we don't have a lot of time left in secondary to fix things. Poor parenting/lack of attendence/the care system are all issues too, I won't go on - If my child couldn't read at 6 I'd be taking matters into my own hands, let alone 11!

Wonderstuff · 29/01/2010 19:57

tsc totally with you on baffling 2 year old behaviour - I think at 2 they are adorable and impossible in equal measure

stac14 · 29/01/2010 20:14

We both like peyton and aaron at the moment so we will need to see if they names last the distance lol

emster we are having a domino pizza cant wait lol

Does anyone take pregnancy vitamins? I got the sanatogen mum to be when ttc and gp says I should stick with them as Im not sick with them and they have all the essential vitamins. Think I got them on offer last time cos this time they were pretty expensive, dp's cousin is a pharmacist and is going to get them cheaper for me yay lol

What you all up to this weekend? I have a date with my jammies and the couch

Thanks for the link chulita I will need to get something sorted

tsc hope things get better for you soon hun, the terrible twos and teenage years are rotten times. thinking of you

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 29/01/2010 20:30

im working all weekend.the joys! dont really mind tho cos dp not getting a lot of hours so every penny helps!
we'v been talking about names and top choices at the minute are ellie and sonny! everyone thinks im mad with sonny but i absolutely love it! im a sucker for the old names! i love eabha for a girl aswell.its an irish name pron. ava. they'r the ones we both seem to love at the minute but that could all change!
ws think its really brave of anyone to go back to education. but its obviously something you would love so hats off to you!
i work from home and have a salon in the house so don't plan on taking too much time off maybe couple of weeks but only because i dont want to lose any clients and it'l be pretty easy to work and have the baby with me at the same time. plus at the moment dp only works evenings so he'l be free during the day if i need him. if i was working in a diff salon id be taking a lot more time off but this way i dont feel i'll be missing out on anything because the baby will be with me anyway. thats the plan anyway so i'l just see how we go after that!
