Stac no, it's on the NHS - we get a nuchal scan in this area and mine was scheduled for 11+3, but they discovered at the scan I was only 10+3 and it was too early to do it, so they rebooked me. I'm not too fussed about having it either way but definitely up for a second scan!

I went to aquafit at lunchtime today, the normal one, they don't have pregnant lady classes at my student gym! I told the instructor I was pg and she gave me easier alternatives to do and told me to take it easy. Normally she's so shouty, it was quite nice to have to take it easy.

Haven't stopped all day - it's been totally manic at work, had to wolf my lunch down in between the gym and a meeting, didn't get away until 6.30 (normally finish at 5) and then came home, cooked dinner, washed up as I went along, and sat down to relax for the first time all day about half an hour ago. I am having my glass of wine of the week, I think I've earned it!

Wonderstuff · 15/01/2010 21:25

wwsw excellent news about your dd's school, that must be a relief. Thanks for the link to that DVD, sounds good.

chulita my dd was doing awful poos today, nearly lost my lunch changeing her! They are definitly DH's job if he is home.

I think I felt a movement today - I did feel flutters early last time. Quite exciting really.

Am booking 2 weeks in France for September, going to eat so much cheese and pate. Cravings are for feta today

PinkBobble · 15/01/2010 21:26

Nice to see there are a few others on their third as well. We've had the odd comment about it, especially as we already have a boy and a girl (they are 6 and 4).

Had my 16 week appointment today and booked for a homebirth this time The midwife said my uterus was pretty high for 16 weeks so they'll be double checking the baby's size at my 20 week scan. Otherwise, that's it until 28 weeks now!

stac14 · 15/01/2010 21:39

I was just curious as the ultrasound section at my hossie told me I had to be in the 20 weeks range, so wasnt sure if other nhs's were the same. I know cant wait for the next scan as I get to find out what baba is lol. I havent had a drink at all but i think thats more because I usually smoke when drinking and think I would want one lol

OP posts:
stac14 · 15/01/2010 21:44

pink hope thats what happens with me lol My ds will be 11 when this ones born and stepson will be 12, so I have a huge gap must be mad lol tsc you have a big gap too dont you? How has it been? Theres 10 years between my sis and I but it was weird for us as I moved into my grans at 12, but dp is 10 years younger than his sis and she acts like his mum so not sure which one is best lol

Emster30 · 15/01/2010 22:48

Wonderstuff feta's fine to have - food standards agency. Indulge your craving!

Stac I thought you had to be between 11 and 14 weeks for the nuchal scan?

Emster30 · 15/01/2010 22:52

Funny you should say that about drinking and smoking stac - I really fancy a cigarette this evening! I quit in July but the cravings still resurface now and again. But of course I've got the best possible reason not to have one. I just hope I don't start again after the baby arrives - I always assumed I'd have kids, that would be it, no more smoking, but I know too many people who have taken it up again.

Wonderstuff · 15/01/2010 23:01

Thats good because I've been eating masses of it, with green olives, bliss. Wonder what I'll fancy tomorrow?
Anyone found a good tea replacement? I've gone right off tea, still like coffee in the morning but can't have in the afternoon as stops me sleeping at bed time. I've been having hot squash. Getting really sick of soft drinks, all so sweet. Alcohol gives me heartburn so staying well clear. Any one else feel like being pregnant feels like being ill for months? Sorry to whine.

Getting an itchy tummy too, any one found anything that will help? Is lavender gel safe? Have vague recollections of lavender oil being a no no in pregnancy??

Off to bed, hopefully I'll feel less grumpy in the morning.

Emster30 · 15/01/2010 23:10

Oh I see! sorry!

I'm enjoying the hot Ribena at the mo, yum. I'm also drinking fruit tea (lesbian tea as my gran calls it) and peppermint tea but I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, so to speak. Other than that I'm drinking gallons of fizzy water, yum.

GlastonburyGoddess · 15/01/2010 23:19

Wonderstuff-It seems its safe to use after 12weeks.

Havent gone off anything particulary, but am craving lots of lemon based drinks like I did with ds1 which is odd.

Still wearin my normal jeans but I get to 6/7pm and theyre cutting me in half, anyone else "pop out" at the end of the day? Tis very bizarre!

Off to a NCT sale tommorrow, usually the branch here is quite expensive but am looking out for a tummytub and a few other things so will go and have a look and see what theyve got!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend x

Aussieng · 15/01/2010 23:30

Wonderstuff I'm also struggling with the drinks thing - feels like really hard work to stay hydrated as everything seems vile. I'm also (much to my DH's disappointment) not one of the "stop fussing darling I'm pregnant not ill" camp and much more in the "god I feel ill" camp. I've also got big red dry patches on my tummy and breasts which are getting a bit itchy so need to find a bath oil which does not make it worse. On the plus side I think my periods of ms are shortening in the evenings [fingers crossed emoticon]

I really want some brussels pate. How much harm could a tiny bit on half a cracker do...

stac14 · 16/01/2010 00:11

emster the info I had was the bloods for downs etc is between 11-14 weeks and the nuchal fold scan was 20 weeks, I assumed this was because baby is more clear at this time than at the 12 week scan. DP had a cig earlier, when he came back in he stank so that defo put me off lol I stopped when preggers with ds and started again when he was born but that was more to do with pnd

wonder I must admit I am not the biggest fan of pregnancy, love the end result but the initial sickness, tiredness, leading to heartburn, pain etc is hard bloody work lol Somerfield is doing 5alive on offer at the moment 56p a carton, comes in the orange and a berry flavour its really nice but usually I have been drinking loads of squash

glaston what is NCT? and a tummytub?

aussie I think there are a lot of people who say stuff it and eat what they like, but think its personal choice hun

Are peanuts still not allowed for pregnant women? I was eating loads of them at new year lovely they were too

Aussieng · 16/01/2010 00:27

I'll see how my willpower is tomorrow. I'm weaker tonight as I'm super tired (waiting up for DH) bur fotrunately no shops open .

Stac I just had my nuchal fold at 11+6 (where they redated me to 13). The nuchal scan even at 12 weeks is much clearer than the vanilla 12 week scans but I think that the nuchal fold reading (ie the specific measurement of the fluid at the back of the neck in order to assess Down's risk) has to be done between 11 and 14 weeks.

Aussieng · 16/01/2010 00:31

nhs - nuchal scans

kittykat77 · 16/01/2010 08:05

Pink we also have a girl and boy - they will be 4 and 3 by next July. Keep trying to explain to DD that u can't choose the sex of the baby but she is desperate for it to be a girl! She also keeps saying it is going to sleep in her bedroom - think she may change her mind when it's waking up in the night!

stac I also have a stepson who is 9 - unfortunately we don't get to see him much these days, but there is quite an age gap between him and our other kids.

stac14 · 16/01/2010 10:43

aussie and emster it may just be the nhs regions i assumed it was the same nationwide as lots of the girls on here are waiting for thier 20 week scans. Do you get the scan at 20weeks to?

kitty its rotten when you dont get to see them a lot. my stepson lives with my sil law so we see him all the time. Weird set up but works for everyone.

We have had the big thaw, no snow in sight, thank goodness was fed up with it lol

OP posts:
stac14 · 16/01/2010 11:12

ladies please accept my appologies i think i have mixed up the nuchal fold scan with the fetal anomely scan. I didnt get nuchal fold scan, think the just check for everything at 20wks. Defo to do with different regions. Soz again x

wonderstuff i've been drinking weak lady grey tea and really enjoying that. i used to drink mint tea but have gone right off it. in the evening, i sometimes make a pepper and pomegranate "tea" and that's delicious. you boil up a fistful of peppercorns in half a cup of water for 20 minutes and then add half a cup of pomegranate juice, leave on the heat for a couple of minutes and then drink. delicious and supposed to give a really good boost to your immune system.

stac peanuts are considered fine now - even recommended because there was a big increase in peanut allergies in kids when expectant mums stopped eating peanuts.

i've really gone off curries which is weird for me as i love curry. not crazy on roast dinners either. i've developed a real sweet tooth though and am eating lots of chocolate which is weird as i was always keener on savoury stuff. i'm loving pickled onion monster munch too. been eating tons of those. mmmmm.

Chulita · 16/01/2010 13:39

I went off tea & coffee for a couple of weeks but am back on it now. MW on Thursday (how patronising are they?!) told me to avoid it - should've told her to avoid suggesting crap things like that Argh! They really pee me off the way they go on about nutrition...thank you, yes, I know how to eat healthily now bog off.
I'm still having a grump because I've searched all 3 large towns near me and can't find this one magazine I want and I'm really grumpy DH has gone to get me a Twirl though so I might be alright in a mo!

Stac - can I just do one big advance agpology for all the stuff I am going to mix up over the course of being pg.... I pride myself on being a good researcher but navigating the hoards of (often conflicting) pregnancy advice - especially taking into account regional nhs variations is impossible! I was offered the nuchal scan (in lieu of the early dating) due to being ancient (ie) 35 and then have the anomaly test at 20 weeks.

Curry is one of the few things that I have craved - but only chinese style curries. The big thing that I have an aversion to (as opposed to just disinterested which I am with most foods other than fruit) is chilli which I used to love (albeit very unhealthy with tons of sour cream and corn chips). The smell now just makes me heave and I really can't imagine ever liking it again.

BigMomma3 · 16/01/2010 15:09

Hi all, just wanted to share what helped with my headaches. There is a stick (looks like a fat lip balm!) called Forehead, that you can get from chemists (costs around a fiver but last for ages). You rub in on your forehead and get a menthol, cooling sensation for a bit then headache is gone! I had a headache for 3 days last week and was really feeling bad, paracetamol did not help but this got rid of it in half an hour.

It is safe in pregnancy and better than popping paracetamol. My DD (age 13) has been getting hormonal headaches too and was starting to take ibuprofen regularly which I was not happy with but this stick has got rid of hers too and is safe for younger DCs too (and while breastfeeding). No I don't have shares in it before you ask, I just wish I'd found it sooner so I did not suffer for so long!!

BigMomma3 · 16/01/2010 15:20

Actually it's called 4Head not Forehead duhh!

GlastonburyGoddess · 16/01/2010 16:51

Stac- I agree with you about not particularly enjoying pregnancy, I find theres usually something all the way through, either something hurts, or ms or heartburn etc etc feel very of people that have great skin, nails, look blooming and sail through it.
NCT is The national childbirth trust. Amongst a lot of other stuff (antenatal classes, toddler groups etc) They run sales where people take stuff they don?t need anymore.
As it was there was nothing really there this time, I assume because of the weather being wet and horrible as last time I went it was packed.

This is a tummytub I think brand new they are an excessive amount of money for what they are, but would like to get one secondhand if I can find one.

BigMomma3-Ive got a stick of 4head, I usually find it quite good, but using that and taking tablets has not helped this week

Aussieng · 16/01/2010 17:04

GGoddess - my dh just asked why I had a stupid smile on my face It was because I was watching the tummtub video thinking "I'm going to have one of those" (baby that is).
