Oh I know about the lifting! I had to go on a stupid health and safety manual handling course, before I knew I was pregnant, lol.

Anyway what the trainer said - the woman could get hurt (i.e. bub will be fine) because part of the pregnancy hormones work is to loosen all your ligaments, muscles etc. in preparation for things pulling apart for the birth. So you are more likely to pull or tear something if you lift heavy weight incorrectly. So lift smoothly with the knees, don't over-reach. She said a lot of injuries happen when people twist with a weight, so move your feet into correct direction rather than just twisting around with your waist.

Have to admit I've been using it as an excuse not to carry the heavy shopping etc! But I'm sure those of you with dc are much stronger from picking them up, so can tolerate more lifting if you have to.

Albrecht · 14/01/2010 11:27

Well that is spooky. My occupational health doc just emailed to say glad the MS is clearing up. P.S. don't lift anything over 15 kg!

Albrecht · 14/01/2010 11:28

Maybe she knows I'm on MN rather than working!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 14/01/2010 11:38

albrecht! I'm going to have to weigh dd - she tripped on the stairs this morning and gave me heart failure so I scooped her up for a cuddle but I'm a bit twingy now. Pretty certain my shopping is heavier than 15kg too lol

TishTosh21 · 14/01/2010 12:40

Havent read the posts from today yet but will go back and read after this post.

I remember reading a post a while back about a woman who said she lost her baby at 20 weeks by pushing a double buggy up a hill so thats why im worried about lifting heavy things.

Hope everyone is having a good day,im back on the sofa on MN watching friends and about to make a cuppa tea, deja vu from yesterday i think!

fairy472 · 14/01/2010 12:41

Wicked witch I am the same, feeling some flutterings but they say with second child will probably feel them earlier...

Im going to be moving house in the next few weeks so I wont be lugging any boxes about! Hopefully!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 14/01/2010 12:54

don't lift any boxes fairy! you can be Project Manager and Tea Lady

fairy472 · 14/01/2010 12:59

thats if I can remember where I packed the kettle!

stac14 · 14/01/2010 13:14

dp doesnt let me carry stuff but 15kg is around 2 and a half stone so thats still a lot. I picked the dog up the other day and he weighs bout 3 and a half, wont be doing that again. tish it may be coincidence bout that lady but still good idea to be cautious

fairy you defo cant move boxes, make tea and tidy up lol knowing me i would leave the kettle at the old house, nappy brain is bad just now lol
albrecht thanks for the info, i am terrible for lifting things the wrong way, good have a reminder as havent done movimg and handling for years

Hi again everyone and thanks for the welcome messages Is anyone else here expecting their 3rd?

It's my 16 week appointment tomorrow - can anyone tell me what they normally do? I had blood taken at 8 weeks - will they do this again?

WickedWitchSouthWest · 14/01/2010 13:18

when we moved I left all the tea making stuff and biscuits out and then it was thrown in a bag and into the car during the final reccy I'm tea obsessed though!

TishTosh21 · 14/01/2010 13:25

Im moving house soon too fairy my ENTIRE family have told me not to lift anything heavy which is nice i can just do the little things

Chulita · 14/01/2010 13:26

Grr! I just had my booking in appointment and I didn't get a bounty pack That's the only reason I was looking forward to it! I've also been classed as high risk due to previous cs which is annoying but mw did say that they won't let me go beyond 40 weeks so that's a bit of good news I suppose...
Cheese on toast anyone?

Spirael · 14/01/2010 14:32

I got a voucher for an Emma's Diary pack from the MW at my booking in appointment and the voucher for a Bounty pack at the hospital yesterday for my 12 week scan, Chulita.

So maybe the hospital deals with the Bounty stuff? Though I think you've already had your scan IIRC, so I guess you'd have received it already if so. Sorry, this isn't much help, is it?

I was also given a huge NHS book all about everything relevant yesterday too, that actually seems to be pretty useful! Turns out I might be eligible for more money/tax breaks from the goverment than I was anticpating.

Picked up my Bounty pack this lunchtime. A few interesting things in there from my initial peek. Most interesting thing was some Horlicks - that won't last long.

beckyg123 · 14/01/2010 14:33

stac yes, have been thinking about the exercise and antenatal classes at the royal - think i'm just going to sign up for everything!!! Esp. as i get time off work for it! Will you be going too?

Chulita i didn't get a bounty pack either! Did you ask? I forgot all about it as was so excited about the scan and everything being ok! I will ask at next visit on 12th Feb.

I can't wait to feel definate movements, certainly got some fluttery feelings at night when lying down but could just be wind! This is no1 so got no reference point!

DH just called me to let me know letter came through for 20 week scan on 22nd Feb

stac14 · 14/01/2010 14:53

becky I was thinking I will because it would be good to try and keep fit. Maybe we will meet up in real life lol. Yay for 20 week scan mine is 1st March

chulita I was given my bounty pack in the hopital at booking scan there is a vouvher inside for you to get the mum-to-be pack from asda/sainsburys but i've not been to pick that up yet. I am high risk too because of uneractive thyroid, although kind of makes me feel looked after lol

pink its my 2nd although I also have a stepson. Did you choose not to get bloods for downs etc? I have to go when I am 15 weeks for them due to the time scale or something, but i thought it was normal to get loads of bloods taken throughout whole pregnancy

OP posts:
Chulita · 14/01/2010 14:57

I did ask and she said I should've got it at the scan but she'll ask the next mw to make sure I get one. I know it's full of rubbish but last time there were a couple of nappies that came in quite useful!
I thought I had flutters last night that didn't feel like wind but I'm only 13wks/12+5/12+4/12+3 depending on which mw you speak to so I reckon it's too early to feel bablet yet!

berberis · 14/01/2010 16:39

Hello everyone, and welcome to newbies

Congrats on scans. viksam hope everything ok with FIL.

I have started knitting a blanket, but my knitting is v poor and there are lots of dropped stitches. Terrible. Especially as is basic square and easiest blanket stitch. Am going to have to get my mum to embroider something gender-neutral over the holes! Saw that crochet mag somewhere last week, wish could remember where.

curly I too have started to get twinges in lower back, only on left side. Will mention it to MW next week, she's coming for a home visit. But good to know it sounds quite common.

Unrelated to this (I hope, as it started beforehand) have been doing the yoga DVD someone mentioned on here - was that you wickedwitch? It's brilliant, even though the woman is chilled-out Californian and quite funny talking about my heart opening like a lotus flower.

My news is that we told DP's boys from his previous relationship last week, I was a bit apprehensive, but they are overjoyed and excited. they stay with us 2 1/2 days a week and all have their own rooms, so a tricky situation trying to work out where the baby will go. Am trying not to think about it too much.

Sorry for long post, it's been a week or more since I was here!

PinkBobble · 14/01/2010 16:59

stac14 Thanks for your reply. I did also have blood taken when I had my combined NT scan, but that was a private scan so nothing to do with the midwife. I didn't have any at taken at booking in last time, just 16 and 28 weeks, but am in a different area now and the guidelines seem to have changed as well!

orangefizz · 14/01/2010 17:43

Evening all

I am at all those feeling movements, I still haven't and would be nice to have that as some reassurance again, seems ages between 12 week scan and mw appoint next week...

beckyg your 20 week scan is same day as mine!

I have been put at high risk too I know i have to see the consultant soon, does anyone know what they do in those appointments and what else it means in terms of extra care?

stac14 · 14/01/2010 18:07

chulita you can register at the bounty website and I think they will send you a pack, meant to say earlier

pink maybe it will just be the usual bloods, i think when preggers you feel like a pin cushion lol

orange just being nosey but why are you high risk? The cons came in during my booking appointment upped my thyroxine then left lol. But as far as extra care I think they just give you more appointments and depending on the problem may be more scanning lol

berberis I was worried about my step son too, he was quite concerned he would loose his dad but is now aware he is totally included in our lives. Its my son I am worrying about as he is the one who may have to share a room with the baby depending on whether we can afford to move or not

Hows everyone this evening? I am having quite a down day, goodness knows why

OP posts:
orangefizz · 14/01/2010 18:53

stac i'm high risk apparently because of complications at/after my DDs birth (lots of blood loss, required transfusion) but that would seem to me high risk birth not preg lol! Anyway, if its extra scans then i'm happy with that!

Chulita · 14/01/2010 19:37

I had a look on the Bounty website and they say they won't post one, you have to hassle the MW for it. I'm good at hassling though

TishTosh21 · 14/01/2010 19:41

Hello everyone, i got my bounty folder thing from MW then it has a voucher inside it that u take to boots and get the big pack.

Im in the middle of dying my hair, ive got another 20 mins or so to wait before i can wash it out, its really itchy...hope thats normal.

kittykat77 · 14/01/2010 19:48

evening everyone.

Well have managed another exciting day at work. The person who is covering my boss for maternity leave started today, and apparently she needs to do everything, so she can learn how it all works... I therefore have no idea what I am going to be doing for the next few months. Not a lot by the looks of it... have a feeling I may be very bored come July...

Pink this is also my 3rd. Have been getting a couple of negative comments from some people (ie. what ANOTHER one!), which I have found rather annoying - but on the whole people are positive!
