HI hurry only 81mins left before freedom yaaaaaaaaay. I'm 34wks tomorrow, so looking forward to the next 6wks, But with 4 other dc's and christmas just around the corner, I doubt I'll rest much. Given that my house is a complete pigsty (you can imagine), washing, ironing piled high etc. But I have decided to just do bits at a time and not get stressed.
Have got two youngest dds main pressies, and older dd wants phone and ds wants laptop as both at budget limit don't need to get anything else for them.
AIBU spending £100 on each of them, ds thinks I am. sorry just curious as to how much people think is reasonable.

shinybaubles · 04/12/2009 15:26

yangymac it feels quite uncomfortable in a non muscular way, like he will fall out, you notice more when you're walking.

sixmincepies - it's one of those things last year I spent a load and bought lots of presents for ds and he didn't even appreciate them it was overkill and I can't even remember what half of them were .
This year I have spent lots less but it's more about getting something that will be played with or used and appreciated rather than a 5 day wonder. He asked for a big fire engine, so he has that and a playmobil garbage truck and his stocking and my sis will get him some thomas toys but that's it. But I know he will love these more than last year..
I think it's less about money more about buying something really good, and not a load of plastic tat.
Nothing wrong with a laptop etc.

quirkychick · 04/12/2009 15:28

Congratulations missmarjoribanks wow 1st baby! What a lovely name. Some really nice names on here too. Looks like we're having a dd but James and Nicholas were both on our list for boys. (My birthday is St Nicholas' day).

I can't remember who asked about spinal vs general for c-section - terrible preg brain! I had a look back and now can't find it on thread. I had a spinal with dd and am going for the same again, unless baby comes early and haven't stopped taking blood thinners then I might need a general. I would much rather be awake and not having to recover from GA. You can feel a lot of tugging and pulling but no pain. Also, you can have top ups of spinal/epidural afterwards. Hope that helps.

Have sort of packed hospital bag, a few extras needed. I now need to pack baby's hospital bag.

shiny you have probably just over done it a bit, I was like that the other night and felt awful and tearful. An early night and I felt a lot better, well for very preg person.
Hope you feel better soon. Hormones can make you feel dreadful.

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 04/12/2009 15:45

Thanks shiny

I'm not dead set on the money aspect, but dd(11) wants a phone which is the limit, ds (16) wants laptop which is over limit, dd (7) wants camera and phone which is half limit and dd (6)has a doll, camera, pram and timmy play set which is nearly limit so they all get the same but obviously the more your item costs the less you have to open.

Have fun nomorebooze with your furniture delivery, don't do too much by yourself.

MissMarjoribanks - WOW! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fantastic weight - he would have been a real whopper full term

Does he have to stay because he is almost 7 weeks early? Do they need help with breathing at that stage? Sorry for questions.

I am delighted for you and wish you all the best and for you to have him home very soon.

What a rollercoaster for you, they really do come when ready

Take care
X

somewhathorrified · 04/12/2009 18:35

Thanks for all the support guys, ofc your right and good friendships are not based on the clothes you wear...but you know how it is when you feel big and uncomfy. I wonder how many sat there feeling jealous that I was in comfy clothes and they weren't. Maybe I'll start a trend and they'll all turn up next week in joggy bottoms.

My SiL warned me about the feeling that when you walk it feels like baby is going to fall out. She said it was perfectly normal anytime from wk30 ish. She said she found walking and holding both hands under bump made her feel more 'secure'.

Re xmas pressie budgets: Obviously this is my first baby, but I'd work on the principal that as long as you can afford the limit you set then there's not a problem.

WOW HUGE congratulations missmarjoribanks!!! What a brilliant weight, well done you and well done Thomas

lottie I love the names Eve and Juliet, they are both so classic but rarely heard with great history and fab nns, they will love you for it crumpette wants a girl !

alibobins is baby still in there?

Biccy · 04/12/2009 20:25

Congratulations MissMarjorieBanks! And welcome to people joining.

Lottie I think your names are lovely.

I had a moment of feeling fed up with being a scruffy bumpkin yesterday, and bought myself a couple of new tops, which feels a bit extravagant 7 weeks before d-day, but I suppose they'll still be useful afterwards. Had compliments from friends today, and I felt much better.

sazlocks · 04/12/2009 20:50

Happy baby news mrsmarjoribanks - well done ! Thomas is a lovely name - hope he is home with you soon.

Looks like I am in good company on the scrufftastic front. Somewhat I look like a female version of Mr Greedy and am SOOOOO sick of my maternity clothes. Still not long to go now.

Shiny also aware of feeling quite anxious about stuff. Hoping I will feel calmer when I finish work as will have less to think about.

Other than that all well :-) glad its a Friday.
Happy weekend y'all

Fraochsmum · 04/12/2009 20:52

Hello All, and welcome to all the newcomers!
Fantastic news MrsMarjorieBanks - absolutely delighted for you!
I thought I only hadn't posted on here for a couple of days and I've just read through 6 pages!!!
I had a scan yesterday (1st time since 12 weeks - now 35+4) and am really ahppy with how everything is. Not one, but 2 midwives had "no idea" how cashew was lying as they couldn't feel his head at all. However on the scan his head is low in my pelvis with the back arching up my left hand side. She didn't have time to measure him but said he was a good sized baby and wouldn't be a wee skelf

mummytopebs · 04/12/2009 21:01

QUIRKYCHICK twas me asking about general versus spinal. I had a general with my dd as it was an emergency one however if the plan goes right i have a choice with this one. The only thing i am concerned about is that i suffer with bad panic attacks and dont know if i will cope with the tugging feeling and the knowing what is going on. How long are you actually in theatre for? And did you feel anxious or do they relax you?

Congratulations Mrs MajorieBanks I am sure he is absolutly gorgeous and that is a very good weight.

On the subject of xmas pressies i have spent around £200 on dd but about ~£100 of this was tesco clubcard vouchers.

Have anyone bought xmas pressies for there unborn babies? I havent but my friend who is due the same time has, i am now feeling a little guilty about not buying presents for baby but its money!

Mama2b5 · 04/12/2009 21:08

crumpette baby still in here just not sure for how long lol been feeling a bit strange tonight got a very weird feeling like when I was little and wanted my mum iykwim also had a few cramps but nothing major.
Got visions of me waiting at home too long and having baby in bathroom

jasmeeen · 04/12/2009 21:40

mummytopebs, I had a spinal with my elective c-section for DS2. The theatre staff were really great. You will feel nervous and going into the theatre is a bit daunting, but don't be afraid to tell them you are nervous as they seem to do their best to put you at ease. I was extremely nervous and embarassingly quite sweaty as a result but they were very nice about it.

Once the spinal is in and the surgeon gets to work it all goes really fast. The baby is out pretty quickly (10 mins or so) and you will be there for another 30-40 mins whilst they stitch you up. At that point you have your baby and don't care what they are doing

There is pushing and tugging as they get the baby out and that can be a bit uncomfortable but it doesn't last long. They explain what is happening and if you are in any pain you tell them and they top up spinal.

Just before the baby is going to be pulled out you will here a sort of sucking noise (like a vacuum sucking up liquid, which is probably what is happening) and then the baby will be there.

I think you can ask for as much detail and explanation as you want during the op. I guess everyone is different but my way of feeling under the illusion of being in control was to ask them to explain every step of the op. I appreciate that this option won't appeal to everyone!

My elective c-section was such a positive birth experience that I have no worries about my upcoming elective for DC3 although no doubt I'll still be nervous once I get to theatre.

Mama2b5 · 04/12/2009 21:43

Alibobins - it could be you next - fingers.. or should i say erm legs crossed !Good Luck xxx

hehehe- mr man has hiccups its making me laugh! i can feel the constant pulse in the top of my legs!

maygirl · 04/12/2009 21:45

Congratulations missmarjoribanks!! Hope you have Thomas home with you soon.

for all those finished at work and sorted for Christmas and chosen baby names. I'm having to work really long hours up until Christmas, with loads of deadlines this time of year, no idea how will find the time to do the handover on top of all the work

I had a hormonal meltdown too this week, at work and had to run to the loos for a cry
Felt better getting it out though, went to the choc machine after to cheer self up, and 2 bars fell out, took that as a sign things were looking up!

I hope everyone else feeling better with the weekend in sight.

Today was good though, I don't work Fridays, and took DS (3) ice skating today for the first time, which was really funny Trying to fit in some special days out for him and me before baby comes.

mummytopebs · 04/12/2009 21:48

I have quite bad pains in my tummy tonight both at the top and bottom is this normal?

quirkychick · 04/12/2009 22:08

mummytopebs I second what jasmeen says that a spinal with c-s really isn't that bad. Tbh I had had quite a rough time before going in that the c-section procedure was really quite a relief. I think the whole op takes about 45mins as it takes longer to sew you up than to take the baby out so you can focus on your new baby and partner rather than what they are doing. I would tell operating staff so that they can put you at ease. The anaesthetists before I went in were like a comedy show and had me really relaxed before I went in. They might be able to give you a sedative perhaps? It's worth bringing up at your pre-op appointment.

Not sure what the tummy pains are though, perhaps someone else will know I didn't actually go into established labour last time.

I just have trapped wind tonight . Quite painful too.

devotion · 04/12/2009 23:05

mummytopebs - my sister had a spinal with an emergency c-section and she is quite a nervous person, hates hospitals and gets panic attacks too but she said it was so quick and absolutely fine. she felt nothing andthe tugging feeling people talk about is hardly anything and did not make her feel weird. you are so distracted waiting to see your little babies face rise over that screen that nothing else at that moment matters. It will be so much nicer for you to be awake for the moment your baby arrives. even though i have not experienced this my sister has made me feel relaxed if i ever need to have a c-section. x
