Ooh can I join in - just discovered there IS such a thing as an antenatal thread !

Im due 6th Jan, this is my second, my DS is 2 years 7 mths.

I might be a bit boring to you all now as I have no clue what the chat has been up to now and there's loads of you.

waves to fellow 6th January-ers

I just can't wait until DH finishes up for xmas, Im suddenly knackered and avoiding busy places in an attempt to avoid swine flu, or any other virus that might floor me now. This is making it very boring!

whensmydayoff - hello and welcome to the one of the chattiest threads

dont worry about not knowing the latest on here, if you blink you miss five pages of chat!

so far we have talked about most things to do with pregnancy, sickness, scans, feeling tired, piles, spd, drugs, hospital bags, all kinds of sex stuff including stuff to make you [blush) i think we blamed CantThinkofFunnyName for that , swine flu, names etc so if dont feel like we have finished talking about any of them if you want to know anyones opinion just ask and im sure many will be on hand.

I am jealous you are so near your date, I am right at the end of Jan and at first I was hoping to go into Feb but now because of swine flu I would like the baby to come a couple of weeks early, no earlier as I do want some maternity break to myself.

RE: baby presents. My oldest age 6 said she was going to ask Santa to bring the baby some presents too in her letter. I thought that was very sweet so I have bought the baby two lovely lamaze toys. We spend about £60 - £100 each year on each of ours. This year it ended up being near £100 because one of the gifts was £50 - I just hope she plays with that one - ALOT!!!!

One year I spent £40 not planned, everything they wanted was cheap or on sale. Shame it was not like that this year. Unfortunately their taste goes up as they do!

whensmydayoff · 05/12/2009 10:07

Hello.

Im glad ive found this, it will be nice to see folk drop off the list and make it exciting.

I was 3 weeks early with DS. Had previa, restricted blood flow to womb, constant growth scans, bleeding galore, High blood pressure and odemea to rival princess Fiona from Shrek, an emerg section and then discovered GBS at birth. Ask me anything !!

This time they monitered me closley until 32 weeks then decided I was too boring this time .

Im now OBSESSED about having a natural birth (VBAC), had hypnobirthing course and still find everything and anything to worry about so hasn't worked too well!

My current worry is that the baby is breech.

I haven't had the swine flu jab (too scared) so it's added to my worry hobby. If anyone sneezes within a five mile radius I hold my breath and scurry away, get my hand gel out and smear it all over me and DS!

My after birth worries are swine flu, in-laws and how DS will react/cope.

Apart from that, Im generally bright and breezy and full of positivity!!

Hopefully that will have opened the odd conversation!

Welcome whensmdayoff.

I have to admit that I have already considered the financial benefits of having a January Baby. Much to everone elses disgust I mentioned the fact that Xmas pressies would be small with their B'day pressie being their main annual gift (January sales and all that!).

In laws have told DH that they are coming up to visit new arrival when he makes an appearance. Undoubtably we'll be doing it all wrong according to MiL, the house will be unsafe etc, etc. Just what you need after giving birth and being sleep deprived. Maybe they'll get lost on the way here as have never bothered to come her b4! Gotta love 'em

Fraochsmum · 05/12/2009 11:25

Oh dear, hope it clears soon
Whensmydayoff - sounds like a terrible time you had and you must be delighted this pg is so much more "boring". I have been extremely lucky with mine and not had any ill-effects at all. Think I might get it all at the birth though
We are finally getting our worktops fitted today, can't wait to have a kitchen sink after a month!! I was standing in the wrong place though when Fraoch sat down and knocked over the worktops, which slid right down my legs Was really bloody sore too (2 x 3 metre lengths) and ended up squealing pig-like on all fours. I was going to wear bare legs to the fire brigade night out tonight, but will have to see how the bruising turns out.
Have a nice weekend folks xxx

nomorebooze · 05/12/2009 14:26

hi peeps! just been having a brief catch up! fraochsmum - all i can say is owwwwwwwwwww hope you and your legs are ok? somewhathorrified - I think it was a cunning plan having january babies as the sales will be brill for b'day pressies !!!.
I have a question for all you good ladies, how can you tell if you lose / are losing your plug? i have had really heavy discharge since last night clear and very thick!!!!!!! sorry if tmi! any thoughts? x

whensmydayoff · 05/12/2009 16:27

nomorebooze

When I lost plug with DS it was more like dark reddy mucus. If it's clear Maybe not that although keep an eye to see if it turns into that - ooh exciting though, whats your date?

How do I get myself on the list?

bigpreggybelly · 05/12/2009 19:19

Hi everyone and congrats to Mrsmarjoriethingy - hope your baby comes home soon!

35 weeks today and I feel as if my stomach is about to explode. I also feel like I've been run over by a bus. Does anyone else feel like that??

Not sure about buying specific Xmas pressies for the baby - but we've bought so much stuff, including gym mat thing, musical mobile and a pram toy. I guess those are all Xmas pressies.

Can't wait for it to be all over so I can feel normal again. Any time after Boxing Day will suit me just fine!

Have a good weekend!

quirkychick · 05/12/2009 21:46

We have just put up (well, man who delivered and dp) a mahoosive Christmas tree which dd and I have decorated. It is really a bit big - 6ft+ but it does look fab!

Dp has bought me a huge bunch of flowers as is my birthday tomorrow so feeling tired from getting stuff done: Christmas decorations, baby's hospital bag, re-arranging stuff to fit in huge tree; but also feeling happy and festive.

We are probably not going to do Christmas pressies for the baby as we have quite a lot from before: newborn swing (if it still works), baby gym, bouncy chair etc. I'm sure relatives will probably give us stuff as well. I will probably get something for dd from baby - I'm thinking of maybe a rag doll. She has already got quite a few baby-type dolls.

bigpreggybelly I keep saying I want to return to normal too, but of course the arrival of a newborn means it will be a while yet .

Still, I will look forward to no longer being sick/having heartburn even if it is substituted with something else!

nomorebooze · 05/12/2009 22:21

hi whensmydayoff! thanks for info, will keep an eye on things , i am due 21st jan so just over the 33 week mark with my first!to add your name to list copy and paste the most recent list into message bar and add yourself to it. xx

Biccy · 05/12/2009 23:10

Hi all, gosh, hadn't even occurred to me to buy christmas presents for the baby - but then I'm towards the end of January... but then I still haven't bought a single thing for dd, though am on the PC now in order to try and find her some sort of robotic dog toy thing. I'm just so scared of buying her presents and then her coming out with 'I really really want a soandso for christmas'... with soandso not being on top of the wardrobe...

When I lost my plug it was one lump, slightly bloody and very thick, not at all liquid. I wasn't in any doubt. But then I was a few days overdue.

fraoschmum, how did the worktops go? We got ours in last week (I think it was....) and dp finally got the oven in this evening, so I now have doorless base cupboards (empty), a working sink, hob, oven, washing machine and tumble dryer, with dishwasher still to be plumbed back in, wall cupboards to go up and doors and trims to go on. Then I just have acres more painting to do. A friend is having a new kitchen professionally fitted next week, and it's all going to be done within the week. I'm so envious. I know we have saved £000s by going the DIY route, but we moved out of our kitchen on 16 September and I am starting to lose my sense of humour. (Don't worry, I have had a working kitchen sink and a cooker for most of the time).

Morning all.

Mucus plug as I understand it can be anything from slightly pink to quite red stained, but if its your first, your plug can come away and them reform a couple of times before labour actually starts, but if your worried I'd check with mw at next appointment, especially if you have no pain.

ali glad to hear your hanging in there, every day counts, towards putting on more weight lungs maturing etc.

canthink hope your migraine goes soon, touch wood I haven't suffered so far, but horrendous with dc2. You have my sympathy

Hi london yours and canthinks baby will be very lucky having a 29th bday, as its same as mine

We are not buying the baby a xmas pressie but, the youngest child always buys the next ones first teddy/dolly. dc4 still takes her bear everywhere with her. This time I will be more prepared though and buy two the same as you won't believe the amount of hours i've spent searching for said bear (going back to supermarkets/ shops etc when lost)

Am getting all festive now as put up christmas tree last night and house smells lovely this morning. We always get the biggest tree and have to cut some off, but the kids love it. When paying for it the lady took pity and stopped at nine foot!!!! and no we don't live in mansion. I'll try and post pictures later.

No work tomorrow Yeah! speak later.

FifiForgot · 06/12/2009 11:38

Morning all

No Christmas tree here yet - that's a job for next weekend. However DD is currently playing at being Mary, complete with donkey, headdress and baby Jesus. The stable is currently doing service as a washing line though!

Lottie we have NOTHING ready for this new baby. The Study is still just that, a study and I haven't washed anything in preparation or even looked in the loft to see what I need to get. I think I am in denial!

We've just be chatting to DD's Godparents in Singapore - they have just adopted a 3 day old baby, he arrived with them last night and is totally gorgeous! It was all a bit of a surprise, I am so excited for them. DD wasn't impressed (even though they have a 2 year old boy) and wouldn't speak to them, announcing "I don't like that baby!", I don't think that she likes to share her adults! Hmmm, this does not bode well for January!

Have a good Sunday all

CantThinkofFunnyName · 06/12/2009 12:36

Morning everyone. Dh decided last minute to take the kids to Winter Wonderland yesterday so I managed to get booked in for a pedicure and a lovely back massage at the local salon. The lady there put me on a stool leaning over the massage bed and gave me the best massage with lots of head/neck rubs too! Came away floating, headache gone, slept for much of the afternoon and then watched copious amounts of Friends DVDs until DH and kids came back around 8pm! What a treat.

Managed to have a lovely lie-in this morning as well until 10.30 and now sitting all ready to go out for lunch!!

However, the downside (?) is that I've been quite sick already this morning and have had fairly constant period pain type cramps in my back since 6am. Before we go to lunch, I think I'll be getting DH to put the labour bag in the boot of the car, plus hospital notes. Think it's now that time to "be prepared". At just under 36 wks I am fairly certain I will not be early and before my c/s date but being the anal organised type it would be sods law to start early and not have the bag in the car that has been packed for about 8 weeks !

Xmas decs - next weekend is the earliest I can get DH to do them. He was brought up that the family went to buy the tree on Xmas Eve and the day was spent decorating etc. Anything earlier feels odd to him. I'm sure that would be absolutely lovely but I need the tree up a couple of weeks before Xmas and the lights etc to get in the mood. Also being a real tree, they typically don't last for ages and come down pretty soon after New Year when it is on its last legs and needles everwyhere.

And finally - xmas presents for baby?! Absolutely no way here. Baby won't be born by Xmas (fingers crossed) but obviously as soon as is born, I expect oodles of shopping to be done but by way of the right coloured clothes really! Xmas 2010 will then be its first Xmas. We have enough to pay out at Xmas time without thinking of early pressies for baby. This one is going to be DH's 6th and each of the others have around £200 spent on them each. It then takes us till around May to recover!

Oh well - hope everyone else hunky dory today

OP posts:
crumpette · 06/12/2009 13:33

definitely not getting christmas presents for baby. Nor am I getting christmas presents for anyone this year, nor even christmas cards. I feel like having a year off [scrooge-grinch-bah humbug emoticon]

Seriously!

Anyway, all is OK here. The baby's room is still full of things of mine that I don't know where to put...
Furniture still hasn't arrived..

erm..

So I'm not very organised, then!

People keep saying how small my bump is DD had IUGR at the end as I had pre-eclampsia and oc. So far I am boring OK with this one and he was huge in the earlier scans, but everyone commenting is making me worry!

mistletoekisses · 06/12/2009 14:58

Hi everyone!

After a miserable start, the day has brightened up beautifully today! So have gotten lots of outdoor chores done today.

Our tree and decorations also went up yesterday! Have a huge tree, but absolutely love it. . I am just one big kid!

Have not bought a Christmas present as such for the bub; but a brand new nursery will have to do! Plus have invested more in presents for DS, plan is to eke them out over Jan/Feb once the baby is here to reward good behaviour/ help keep him occupied.

For all of those feeling hormonal and up and down. I can totally empathise. Woke up feeling as though I wanted to fight the world! Have no idea why; have managed to snap out of it eventually and am now in a great mood. Sometimes I cannot believe I still have nearly 5 weeks to go!

Hope everyone else having good days - we all sound quite cheery!

theminniebauble · 06/12/2009 15:18

Hello everyone,
I've been lurking a bit but have been a little shy to say hello. But as I am now officially on maternity leave and have been so (uncharacteristically) mega-organised as to put up christmas decs, I thought that I would pluck up courage to introduce myself.

DH and I are expecting first baby (DS) on Jan 1st. I feel like a big ball of hormones and braxton hicks at the moment. Lots of the comments about baby feeling ready to fall out and not wanting to wear anything apart from yoga pants are really resonating. Glad I'm not the only one. x x

alfiesmadmother · 06/12/2009 16:12

Hi Minnie bauble! I haven't contributed a lot and lurk too! I feel heavy and uncomfortable, can't believe I have another 5 weeks of growing to do! Just feel glad this season is so busy to take my mind off things. Am at the awful stage where even my nice maternity clothes don't look great!!! I am irritable too but that is mainly because I feel uncomfortable and tired and have 3 other children, I just tell people to stay away!!!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 06/12/2009 16:49

Welcome TheMinnieBauble! Today I really feel like baby is about to fall out! My baby is cross between breech and transverse but has been putting lots and lots of pressure in the pelvis today and a few horrid kicks to the cervix (urgh), lots of back ache and cramps but know its just one of those things and not a sign of impending happiness, unfortunately! flyingma · 06/12/2009 16:56

Welcome to all the newbies to the thread. Bloody hell it's been busy on here the last few days.

Congrats to our first arrival and the proud mummy - hope he gets to come home soon!

Thanks all for the replies re the nursing bras... I should arrange a trip out to the shops for that soon then. Spending the next few days overloading on BF info before looking into the car seat dilemma again.

So I found my local aquanatal class and went to it the day before my 34 week MW appointment. The class was conducted by community MWs and one of the ladies who was observing the class is a local health visitor so she's booked me in for a home visit to go over some BF info.

Went to book in with the MW on Friday who turned out to be lovely. I was well-impressed by how friendly and professional she was. She also suggested to go along to the local BF drop-in clinic tomorrow to get to know "the girls" as I told her that I was slightly concerned about being able to do that.

Quite happy with the local level of service provision. Think my former GP was right: Berkshire is probably one of the worse staffed areas in terms of MWs so it was unlikely that I was going to do any worse from the move.

Anyhoo off to retrieve the roast from the oven. This whole "eat lots of fruit and veg in the weeks running up to your birth as it will do you more good than drinking water" thing (courtesy of yoga teacher) seems to be going against my carpal tunnel - my hand goes all numb after chopping veg which is a nightmare when trying to batch cook and freeze meals in anticipation of middle-of-the-night feeding sessions.
