believe me it does get cloudy in Brighton - but windy is the worst and we don't even have that at the moment, at at the bottom of the road you can see everyone sitting on the beach and swimming

Jockey · 24/06/2005 16:53

Jai that sounds like a lovely scene.

We were just talking about Brighton as the football fixtures came out and dh is pleased to see that most of the ones he wants to attend aren't in October! Honestly, I ask you!!! No wonder I'm dreaming about Mr Darcy... take me away from all this...!

morningpaper · 24/06/2005 17:28

Oooh I'm sure I wasn't this UNFIT during my last pregnancy.

I've just walked into town and it nearly killed me. How am I ever going to give birth at this rate?! I'll barely be able to get out of the car.

jessicasmummy · 24/06/2005 17:29

MP - with you there girl - cant walk ANYWHERE at the moment - car is so much easier!

indamb · 24/06/2005 19:19

hello girls,

is anyone itching like made across the boobs. not anywhere else tho. sorry to ask, dont remember this with my dd

SusiS · 24/06/2005 20:30

after having rain on and off all afternoon it cooled down a bit!

but i am joining you with the 'ohsodifficulttowalkanywhere' issue!!!!
a 10 min walk into town turns into an hour and lots of puffing and huffing!

~thumbs up~ indam! fan sounds good to me! (heard of costco; do you need a card for that one?)

ouch cpt!!! 6 hours is terrible; hope you could relax a bit today

So glad it's not just me feeling like an 80 year-old heffa trying to walk anywhere. I am huffing and puffing at the slightest bit of walking. I did four hours gardening yesterday though and felt ok - it just seems to be walking that's killing me! My bump aches underneath (like a stitch) and I feel like I'm having a heart attack!

Piggiesmum · 25/06/2005 00:25

indamb. I am itching like crazy there too. Just the last 2-3 days. It's probably just the heat as it settles down once i get my bra off.

Bump has been kicking like crazy today. Goodness knows what it'll feel like as he gets bigger

hester · 25/06/2005 09:15

indamb - yes, I've been itching there for weeks! Keep forgetting that I'm not supposed to stick my hand down and have a good scratch - oh, I'm so effortlessly stylish... I also get red patches, like bruises, on them, and some broken veins. Does this mean stretchmarks are on their way, do you think?

CPT - you poor, poor love. The horror of that train trip! i saw it on the news and heard there were pregnant women on board, and was just so thankful it wasn't me. it must have been hell for you.

bonnie - Ruby is so cute!

Isn't it a relief now the temperature's dropped?

jai38 · 25/06/2005 09:33

Mornign all - looking for some advice ...

DH and I are off to a nearly new NCT sale today and want some hints on what to look out for, smaller things really as most of the big things seems to be comingas gifts (lucky us!!) but until now we have really taken the head in the sand approach to this baby needing anything -except one trip for toy r us where we decided there was too much choice and went for a cup of tea very quickly!!!

jessicasmummy · 25/06/2005 09:43

Lots of vests/sleepsuits
Bibs
Muslins
re-usable nappies if they are goign cheap and that is what you want to use
a few little rattly toys
play mat
changing mat
bouncy chair
hats
mittens
cardigans

HTH

jai38 · 25/06/2005 09:48

Thanks jessicasmummy - have printed out list for dh and he say that was all on his mental list (obviously!!!!) - had to explain what a moses basket was for the other day - and he decided that they were a really a good idea like it was a new invention.

jessicasmummy · 25/06/2005 09:50

bless him!

Cant you tell ive been there and done that before!!!

Luckily still got most of what we need - just a few little "winter" clothes to get as Jess was a summer baby!

jai38 · 25/06/2005 09:53

I jsut can't wait to seee his face when confronted with breast pumps!!! I think that this will be a educational day for one of us!

jessicasmummy · 25/06/2005 09:55

PMSL!

Hold off on the breast pump until feeding established. Dont want ot scare you, but if feeding doesnt work out, you have spent money on something you cant use.

Best to wait until baby is about 3-4 weeks old. HTH

jai38 · 25/06/2005 09:58

Thanks for the advice not sure what we are going to be dong yet - I want to breast feed but we are self employed and coming up to Christmas is our busiest time .

So will be working part time all the time anyway, with both of us here we can share the load but not sure how it going to work yet - at least we live above the shop so we have some flexibility. So breast feeding might not be at all practical

bonniej · 25/06/2005 10:55

25 weeks today!!!!i've also got itchy boobs!! they just look horrendous at the moment anyway and having a good scratch certainly isn't making them look any better. I got this when pg with dd1 so know it's normal for me.

I've got mostly everything clotheswise, but will need some wintry clothes as same as jm, my dd1 was a summer baby. I am planning to just get lots of tights and cardigans so I can still use the dresses etc (i found that baby gros were the main outfit for the first couple of months anyway). I'm still on the lookout for the perfect travel system with attached toddler seat but having no luck yet.

I'm glad it's stayed a bit cooler but all that rain doesn't seem to have cleared the air completely. I find i'm happiest in the car with the air con on. I could stay there all day.

anyway hope everyone has a nice weekend

hester · 25/06/2005 11:09

I've bought NOTHING yet. Think I might treat myself today by buying a little outfit for our baby girl

bonniej · 25/06/2005 12:30

have you got any names yet hester?

SusiS · 25/06/2005 13:39

we finally made our way to that big baby-things-superstore about an hour away from us! we wanted to have a look at that one pushchair we like! (phil&ted, for newborn&toddler double) - we still like it
guess that's the one we'll end up with; unless they develope anything similar till october

very nice that it has cooled down a bit; but still quite sticky, isn't it!

re buying: haven't bought anything yet either! got a few clothes from a friend but that's about it! - and agree on babysuits for the first few months! it's so much easier and all they need! - and for that time she'll have to do with ds's old ones (poor girl )

and also agree on breastpump!! wait and see how you get on with feeding. used mine once

morningpaper · 25/06/2005 17:56

Hehe I'd advise you ladies against buying 'outfits' because babies are impossible to dress in anything apart from a sleepsuit and just throw up on everything in 10 minutes anyway.

I've bought a changing mat and a new baby duvet (for baby to lie on). Only 3 more months really...

I think we are going for 'Elizabeth' - boring I know but dd1's name is a bit unusual and I don't want everything thinking we're crazy hippies...

jessicasmummy · 25/06/2005 18:09

We are back to Aiden James for a boy, and Chloe Alison for a girl now.... see if it changes again before october!

triceratops · 26/06/2005 09:03

I like Ruby, my friend has two daughters Ruby and Scarlett and Ruby sounds great yelled across the room (she is a bit of a character).

I have always liked Chloe and Elizabeth really as they are both in my name .

I think I still like Hannah Rose (Grandmas name) or Eleanor (best friends name although she goes by a nickname) but I dreamt that she was called Belle a few nights ago (name of a great aunt). I also have a strange attraction to Ruth but dh thinks that that is the most boring name in the world. This coming from someone who likes Sarah (his ex so we are def not going there).

jessicasmummy · 26/06/2005 09:07

Ruby is nice.

I like Daniel for a boy, but as he was my "first love" dh doesnt agree!

We will see what the future holds!!!

hester · 26/06/2005 09:56

Don't worry, morningpaper, when I say 'outfit' what I meant (and got) was a couple of cheap little all-in-ones. There were plenty of cute little frilly dresses but I took one look at them and was overwhelmed with a vision of me - inept new parent - struggling to get them onto a wriggling newborn and then having to take them off again 10 minutes later because she'd thrown up/choked on a ribbon/got her fingers caught in lace.

It will be low maintenance only in this house!

I've also not bought anything in newborn size because I reckon that's the stuff you get given. (No doubt I'll be sending dp out to Mothercare from the postnatal ward because I got that wrong!)

Anyway, names - oh this has been tough. Dp and I have COMPLETELY different tastes and keep gasping in horror at each other's suggestions. We have managed to draw up a short (very short) list of compromise suggestions that wouldn't be first choice for either of us but both of us can live with! Top compromise choice at the moment is Ava. What do you think? Getting too popular?
