jessicasmummy · 28/06/2005 12:56

im almost the baby of the thred... me and fastasleep need to stick together as the young ones!

bonniej · 28/06/2005 13:14

i'm one of the oldest I had my ds when i had just turned 17 and have always been used to being a very young mum. Thing is we started again with dd1 2 years ago and now I'm an older mum. (note older and not old ) Oh well, having children keeps you young (or so i've been told)

Joseyjo · 28/06/2005 13:39

my dh says "you are only as old as the woman you feel" which takes 5 years off him!!!! if it works the other way round does that help or hinder you bonniej?

also how hung up are we on initials? for example if i end up with dj is that a problem? is the little blighter going to end up called that or is that mostly down to what m&d call it? opinions please....

jessicasmummy · 28/06/2005 13:40

if my little bump is a boy, his initials will be AJM, but we will shorten it to AJ. Aiden James.... i liek initials!!

bonniej · 28/06/2005 13:45

joseyjo, my dh is the same age as me, so that doesn't help me any . JM my dd is an AJ, but we never use that. I think as long as the initials don't spell anything bad then it doesn't matter. Most people don't call people by their initials unless they use them themselves. My new little dd will be an RJ. We had to be careful as our surname is P so we didn't want her to be a RAP or a REP!

SusiS · 28/06/2005 14:29

bonnie? one of the older ones? what does that make me??? but agree - kids keep you young

bubs initials will be CAT (that is if we ever agree on a middlename with A!)

hey moomin. how old is your child? very similar stats

ds has initials TIGR I eanted to add Elvis as a middle name so he could be TIGER but dh said that would be cruel

jolovett · 28/06/2005 16:59

Hey there - I'm back!

I miss the pool! Had lush time lazing around for a week, jumping in and out of the pool. Got a bit of a tan, but spent most of time in shade as didn't want to overheat. There were millions of pg women around the same size as me in the resort - think we were all having our final escape!

I could stick the heat abroad no problem, but here it's ridiculous. Especially living in a caravan - it's unbearably hot!

JJ loved the sun and the pool - loads of kicks and stretches. He is so active now, but at the moment when dh puts his hand on my belly he stops - works everytime - lets hope it continues so I can get five min peace now and then!

Still trying to catch up with all the posts - hope you all ok!

YOKEFLEET · 28/06/2005 17:04

Thanks for your birthday wishes yesterday, it was definatley a day I want to forget!!! Sorry I didn't get on to post yesterday but my day started really badly!!
Firstly as I was going down our stairs at home I slipped and fell down the last 4 or 5 steps (must have woken bubs up as they gave me an almightly kick!!) didn't hurt myself (well only my pride )
secondly got in to my car flicked the ignition and nothing so had to trot back into the house and upstairs to ring the very very nice man from the AA
thirdly - I needed to move my car slightly in the garage whilst waiting for the AA man to arrive, I only gave it a little nudge (only wanted to move it 1/2 a metre) well it flew out of our garage (backwards) with me chasing behind it, having to get past the car in order to open the door and jump in to put the hand brake on!! (I missed another car on our close by just over an inch!!!) but managed to sprain my ankle in the process and all of this was before 9am!!
AA got to me at 9.15, turns out car battery was faulty but whilst I was stood outside with him I came over really faint, lost most of my vision and almost felt drunk (AA man sat me in my car and gave me a Mars bar!! see I said he was a very nice man!)
I can't say the day really improved as my ankle got more and more painful as the day/night went on.
On a positive note it feels much better today!

YOKEFLEET · 28/06/2005 17:05

oppss that sounds like a bit of a rant!!! sorry

fastasleep · 28/06/2005 17:55

Yikes Yoke! What a morning...

hello MOOMIN

I have gastric flu ...kill me now. No energy to type anything else..

except I hope none of you get gastric flu!

Elf1981 · 28/06/2005 18:13

If we have a boy, their initials will be LMF so nothing too drastic. I used to be ELC but now am ELF and at work have to use initials so constantly get called ELF.

Yokefleet at least your AA man was lovely

Elf1981 · 28/06/2005 18:14

Fastasleep - sorry to hear you are so poorly. Hope you get better soon

YOKEFLEET · 28/06/2005 19:41

Fastasleep - I hope you feel better soon!

hester · 28/06/2005 19:45

Hi everyone. Yorkefleet - so sorry your birthday wasn't better, but I think Lucy is lovely and can't see what the problem is if her little cousin isn't actually using it day-to-day. bonnie - so very sorry to hear your young friend's news; yes she is young but that is still a terrible, terrible thing to happen. Joseyjo - this baby is my first (last and only, I expect) and apologies to all for shoving up the average age on this thread! fastasleep - you poor love; gastric flu is ghastly.

Blu, tamum - thanks so much for your messages (Blu I thought you were still on holiday! will email you). I saw the consultant today and actually it wasn't so great. I was expecting him to say something like, 'Your risks have now moved up from 1:850 to 1:400.' Instead, he told me that the risk of chromosomal abnormalities associated with talipes is usually quoted as 1%, though in my case he would put it lower (because no other markers and good blood results). However, he said that the risk of non-chromosomal abnormalities is between 5-10%.

1 in 10! I was completely shocked. Still can't quite believe it. Of course, amnio won't pick these up, so I have no choice but to wait and see and somehow try to keep myself calm and positive. But right now I'm feeling pretty devastated.

Incidentally, the consultant also offered me an elective caesarean (because of my age) and also an elective induction at 38 weeks (because of the risks of stillbirth at my age). I left his office feeling terribly guilty that I have exposed my baby to all these risks by being so damn old (not that I chose this of course; I would love to have got pregnant years earlier).

nervousmum2be · 28/06/2005 20:09

Hester - Big Hug xx

Anyone else into the 'early nesting' thing yet? Last night i totally rearranged and re-folded my linen cupboard, and i nearly killed myself in the boiling hot sun washing my car today - none of the jobs were urgent or even necessary, but for whatever inexplicable reason, i had to do them! Given that i've no previous experience to draw on, i'm kinda hoping its just the last big rush of energy for the second trimester, before i enter the sloth-like third trimester in two weeks, rather than my body telling me that Bump's delivery is more imminent!!! Keeping fingers (and legs! ) crossed....

morningpaper · 28/06/2005 20:27

Hester sorry you are feeling worried about things. (((hugs)))

My ankles are PUFFY. Please tell me it's not just me. I am sitting here in my pants again. I will have to peel my breasts off my stomach in a bit. I'm sure DP is thinking "How did I get THAT woman pregnant?"

Jockey · 28/06/2005 20:41

Hester - Sorry you seem to be really going through the mill. What more can you do but keep calm and positive, as you say (easier said than done at times). I must also take some responsibility for shoving up the average age on this thread. As the medical profession keep reminding me I will actually be 41 by the time bubba comes. According to my notes, I am high risk simply because of my age. At times, I feel they will almost be surprised if a normal baby comes out. I know what you mean about leaving it late - in my case this was a happy accident & not planned. I always swore I'd have it all over with by 30 but, hey, life ain't like that!!!

Yokefleet, thank goodness for Mars Bars! Hope you have recovered.

Poor fastasleep - get well soon. That sounds ghastly.

nervousmum - I am totally exhausted but am somehow driven to clear out drawers which is not like me at all.

Need to go back and read all the posts now!

triceratops · 29/06/2005 08:16

Hester I am sure that you and your little one will be one of the 95% who are fine. Whatever happens she will have lots and lots of love.

Gastric flu sounds revolting, I have only just stopped being sick and definately don't want a tummy bug just now. Fastasleep you have my sympathy.

Nervousmum2be - I cleaned out my kitchen cupboards yesterday, hoovered the car and under the sofa and ironed the towels (which is the work of a mad woman).

triceratops · 29/06/2005 08:20

I have varicose veins on my varicose veins at the moment. They are really sore and itchy, I would go and see my GP but I know they would say something helpful about support stockings In this heat!!!?

I priced up to get them treated after ds but it was going to be £2k. I think they have a new way of doing it under a local so I will have to try again next year. Dh calls them my Darth Vader legs which is not very flattering.

jessicasmummy · 29/06/2005 08:42

im nesting - its not good!!!

Spent the last few nights cleaning everything, hoovering, tidying, making sure everything is in its place! Cant even stand jess's toys being all over the floor!!!!

DH keeps telling me to calm down and he will do it, but I WANT TO DO IT!

23+5 now..... my god - time is flying by! Will I ever be ready?!

SusiS · 29/06/2005 08:49

lol jm, guess i started too! ds's new room still not anywhere made up yet!! we are still (!) busy with wallpaper stripping - but 5 layers!!!! - but i finally know what i want for his new room

then i can start on his old room and turn it into a girls nursery

aarrrgghh, still so much to do

OP posts:
jessicasmummy · 29/06/2005 08:50

we should be moving between now and bump being born so i dunno what to do!

Army are gonna give us a 3 bed house so kids have their own rooms.... just a case of when! Imagine moving at over 30 weeks.... nightmare!

Moved when i was pg with jess at 37 weeks - complete nightmare!

fastasleep · 29/06/2005 08:51

Hester you are not old! Don't let them make you feel bad, it's not your fault... you're not old at all pfft.

I'm still feeling pretty terrible and DH has gone back to work so I'm also all sniffly and upset lol

Nesting?! I can barely pick up my tea cup

Aww triceratops varicose veins - nasty!

Elf1981 · 29/06/2005 08:54

I'm 25 weeks today! Had a nesting experience the other day when I rearranged my wardrobe, but in typical ELF style I got distracted half way through and ended up looking through my box of memories from my wedding day, as well as all the photoes. So it took me a lot longer than planned, but there must be some stylish dressed homeless people at the moment with the amount of clothes I donated!
I'm waiting for it to kick in so I can have the motivation to do my ironing. I keep thinking about doing it, but somehow the sofa and telly always seems like a more attractive option. And I had the urge to clean the kitchen floor the other day but got over that by making DH do it. He panicks about me being on my knees cleaning floors (and he told me off yesterday for running to the car, couldn't get it through to him that I was fine but would have been soaked if I'd waddled to the car!) so he's taking up doing all the heavy cleaning. I'm obviously saving my nesting period for all the nice things like flower arranging and making sure the candlestick holders are in the right position on the coffee table...

Blimey, this probably looks like a rant! Off to work I go then...
