Thanks VAG, just when I needed a good drink, too

Peeing for friggin England but other than a dodgy moment yesterday and some heavy feelings "down there" (prob just need a wee again) I'm feeling fine, preg symptom wise.

Positive news. The time that I can put food in my mouth of a morning has shortened from 'nothing before 10.30 except water' to 'a yoghurt or something light like thickly buttered toast' at around 8.30 (I get up at 6.30).

By lunchtime I'm ravenous and looking forward to some slabs of runny brie, liquorice and pate with a pint of lager

skihorse · 18/11/2009 11:13

Oooh I had licquorice yesterday! nom nom

givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 11:25

cunty good news. But I have to ask, why on earth, when you don't have children in the house, do you get up at 6.30, you mad, mad woman?

Can anyone help me. YOB and I have decided to go for an early scan, and we've also booked a private nuchal fold and blood test at 12 weeks. Is it possible to get an early scan on the NHS? I can't even book in with the midwife till 8 weeks

Feeling remarkably stressed about it all and really need some reassurance of viability before we then start down the genetic testing route. Turns out I'm rather more emotional than I thought.

Sorry.

carrots I think you can get an earlier scan if you're prepared to cry, wail and beat your fists in the desk of a scared old man doctor... Are you prepared to lose your dignity?

Feeling emotional eh? How about watching The Bridges of Madison County with Polly?

I feel like crying about 6 times a day - you've done this beforee rots - is it normal?

CUNextTuesday · 18/11/2009 11:31

carrots because that's what time I have to get up to go to work...

You can have an NHS early scan if you go to one of the walk-in EPU (early preg unit) clinics. Cite 'anxiety' and 'abdo pain' if you feel like giving an excuse for going. Ususally the website of your nearby hospitals will indicate if they have an EPU.

The NHS does you a nuchal fold test at your 12 week scan - I get the combined test which also includes a blood test. You shouldn't need to pay for it to be done privately - all hossies do them these days.

If you haven't already, go and see the GP to get yourself into the MW system. I went at 6 weeks and had my guff from the MW service 3 days afterwards. I'm not even 8 weeks yet and I've had all my appointment dates for booking in and scans etc.

CUNextTuesday · 18/11/2009 11:32

PS you don't have to be referred by your GP to go to the EPU

skihorse · 18/11/2009 11:35

If you want the nuchal fold done because you'd terminate - you can get it done from 9 weeks.

givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 12:59

Hmm, interesting. When I had littlecarrot I could only get the nuchal+bloods privately. I will see if I can get an appointment and get into the NHS system. In fact, as soon as the girl in t'office wot doesn't know leaves I will phone and demand an appointment.

cunty I was just joking, but really the only reason I'm self employed is so I don't have to get into work until after 9am . I'm a lazy cow so even tho I live 20 mins away I still am always late.

Crying? Well I was so totally traumatised last time by evil ex that I don't know what is normal. I can tell you I'm having a Right Old Stress this time. I guess hormonal upheavals combined with the scariness of growing up suddenly is enough to set anyone off. At least this time I know what I'm letting myself in for and I'm not scared of being a mum or having a baby, labour, all the usual etc.

Hinteresting... just reading the pregnancy advice on my Dutch health insurance website and they actually say: "camembert & brie from a Dutch supermarket; no problem". They also say you can eat sushi. The only sports they're advising against are diving and parachuting.

givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 14:09

Is it illegal to sell unpasturised cheese in TN ski? If so, maybe that's why. That's why I'm not worried about sarnies... I can't see M&S selling an unpasturised brie sarnie. TBH I prob wouldn't eat it anyway because it's easy to choose something else but equally I wouldn't worry about it ITMS.

Well I have a microlighting flight to do and a landy off road day from my birthday. Bricking myself about the microlighting - seems so totally dangerous. I do plenty of extreme sports including flying stuff but microlighting has never seemed like a good idea. I've also not yet done a parachute jump although YOB used to be a skydiver so I should do, really. Maybe not now though, eh.

OP posts:
skihorse · 18/11/2009 14:14

No, they sell it here - but I think the Dutch are just saying "if you buy it from Tesco, get a bloody grip". They do say you should stay away from unpasteurised cheeses but it's not an outright ban.

Surely parachuting is only "bad for you and the baybee" if you fail to open said parachute? In which case you've probably got more to worry about than potential overheating.

givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 14:21

yeah, probably. Problem is, I did a bungee jump and hated it. REALLY scared me. I think parachuting would be better but you can't tell till it's too late! I've done lots of abseiling including a free abseil off the Middlebrough Transporter Bridge which I absolutely loved and would love to do again, so I think I'd be ok if I was attached to a tight line! I guess I'd need to put the parachute on a skyhook.

OH I guess they mean diving under water as opposed to INTO water. OK well that makes sense I suppose! Cor, you could have had me worrying about jumping in the pool! (no, not really... )

OP posts:
skihorse · 18/11/2009 14:26

Yeh sorry, I meant scuba diving. I love abseiling too! I've never tried bungee-jumping, I was in Cairns and they had a bungee jump set up there over a pool in the rainforest and I was really up for it... until I clocked the fact that they wrote your weight on your hand in big numbers. ... most of the people queueing were 40kg Japanese people. I am indeed a wuss. Bungee jump = no problemo, reveal my weight to the world? No sirreeee!

givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 14:33

ROFL

So what other stuff do you get up to? Mrs Adventurous Ski "n" Horse lady?

OP posts:
skihorse · 18/11/2009 14:54

I eat pate. In France!

iggypiggy · 18/11/2009 15:04

Hi PESHes

I poas this morning just to check am actually updiffed and not deluding myself updiffed. Luckily = win so far.

Don't get the pastuerised thing re: brie - i thought it was the mould in the rind that was the prob. Although realise that unpastuerised is also on the no can do list. I likes the FSA list anyway - is not too obsessy, says yes to peanuts and shellfish anyway.

ah - from the FSA site:
In order to avoid the risk of listeriosis pregnant women are advised to avoid eating ripened soft cheeses of the Brie, Camembert and blue-veined types, whether pasteurised or unpasteurised.

sorry to go all 'government advice' there I don't give a fuck what anyone eats - just like to be clear on things

givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 15:19

I always thought it was unpasturised stuff that was a potential problem. Ho hum, shows what I know. Anyway, don't care. I mean, I DO, obviously, but I have other things to worry about.

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only POASer (well with casper obviously). I plan to on Friday and compare with yesterday's to check on line-getting-thicker. Continuing to get pains so can't just relax. Could just use a few glasses of wine . Phoned docs to try to get appointment to organise 7 week scan (planning to throw self on doctor in weepy, hair tossing way) and they're fucking closed until tomorrow for training. But do they say that? No. They say their opening hours are 8.30 till 6pm and please call back between those times. .

ski no, really? Gosh, I'm impressed .

OP posts:
iggypiggy · 18/11/2009 15:27

I think there is too much conflicting advice - so i just follow food standards agency advice - which is offical uk govt advice, cos it's easier to stick with one source and go with it...

I will have to pay for a private scan if I want one early - like i did last time. Although there is a place I could walk in - but my MIL works there... tricky...

givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 15:40

Oh yes, I can see the problem!! We're going to tell YOB's mum on Friday, then closest friends so I at least have a few RL people to go woohoo with.

Re: advice, there is so much crap out there, isn't there. In the end you just need to go with what's right for you.

Anyway, are you going for an early scan? If my wailing @ doc doesn't work I'll book straight in for a private one. Got to be worth the money to a) not have to sit in the NHS scanning area for 3 years while desperately needing to pee and b) see (a).

OP posts:
givecarrotsachance · 18/11/2009 15:41

(Meaning "one" needs to go what is right with "oneself", not you personally)

Oh sheesh I'm being oversensitive about saying the wrong thing again. Stop it.

OP posts:
iggypiggy · 18/11/2009 15:44

cunty did you have an NHS scan or private

rots I will - but not as early as last time - prob 8 weeks.

CurlyCasper · 18/11/2009 15:50

iggs I was under the impression you always get free NHS early scan if you have previously had mc.... prob got wrong end of stick tho

CUNextTuesday · 18/11/2009 15:53

NHS igg Just strolled on into St Georges whipped off my pants and said 'scan this, bitch'

No appt or referral necessary. There's walk-in EPUs all over the country - can't imagine you would ever have to pay for it
