Neeko sorry you are suffering too, I have a birthing ball but my boys seem to think it is purely for their entertainment so it is a fight to get near it!!
Hoops i was the same with DS1 & DS2 and didn't want to buy anything, we bought the basics and stored it at the in-laws. This time I have just bought stuff.
Merryxmas I was 21 when I had DS1 and found it all really daunting, I couldn't afford to buy all the magazines and books I wanted so used to pore over them at the library. 10 years later I know feel finally a bit knowledgable about it all but please ask any questions!
Tweetz that is soooo cute!

merryxmasfellowbumps · 15/01/2010 19:49

thanks
it is all a bit daunting for me , silly question time then
breast feed or bottle ??? iv heard that breast is the best plus it helps take the baby wieght off ??

also have a burning feeling under my right boob, so uncomfortable, spoke to mid wife she said it is probably heart burn so was prescribed gavison....
but im convinced its the baby or something else(hoping its baby), maybe his foot or something ?? gaviscon certainly aint helping ..anybody have the same ??
is this something that we all get lol ?

sorry to go on
thanks everyone

Neeko · 15/01/2010 20:25

Hi Merryxmas and welcome to the thread.

It sounds like heartburn. Try sipping milk and I find the Gaviscon tablets are better than the liquid.

The feeding is really up to you. I breastfed my DD for 6 months and it really worked for me, although the first few weeks can be difficult. If you're even remotely interested in breastfeeding then I'd suggest you try it. Go into it with an open mind and see how you go. If it doesn't work (and it doesn't for some regardless of what the midwife tells you) then don't beat yourself up. You can always change your mind later. I found it cheap and convenient, particularly in the middle of the night. It's really helpful if your partner and close family are supportive too.

Do you have a good baby book? I had 'What to Expect the First Year' which I liked as it had a really good 1st aid section and a lot of questions and answers whch made me feel less stupid.

In the meantime, fire away. No question too stupid on here!

Neeko · 15/01/2010 20:27

Pillia My physio appointment came in for Monday afternoon! What's the chances of him/her having a magic wand?!

merryxmasfellowbumps · 15/01/2010 21:42

hey neeko thanks
i tryed the gaviscon tablets before the liquid and really didnt like them.

i definatly want to try breast feeding
like you say cheap and conveniant.
i have the book called pregnancy and birth, its quite good till i saw pictures of labour and birth lol
if im honest i didnt pick it back up.
petrified of giving birth , panicked about something going wrong.
not the pain tho , been told it bloody hurts but apparantly you forget it ??

iv also heard its unlucky to buy pram and have in house?? i havent yet got it , will wait longer but i have bought the moses basket and thats already in my house , is that ok ??
thanks again

Neeko · 15/01/2010 22:06

Merryxmas I honestly think it's all ok to have in house as long as you're fine with it but most shops will store stuff for you until nearer the birth if you're unhappy.

I'd advise you to pick that book back up and read on. It sounds worse than it is but defnitely helps to know what you're up against. Have you thought about pain relief? I used a tens machine and birthing pool for most of my last labour but ended up with an epidural (which was bliss!) I'd also advise you to attend antenatal classes and learn some sort of relaxation. Just remember your body is designed to do this and if for some reason you can't then that's what interventions like forceps and c-sections are for. Try not to worry about it too much and just concentrate on all the idiots you know who've given birth- if they can do it so can you!

merryxmasfellowbumps · 15/01/2010 22:52

iv not thought of pain relief, never crossed my mind till now , tens machine id try , not sure about epidural as heard it can compicate things later on (back problems etc)

i did ask about antenatal classes but because of swine flu they have been canceld in my area , so looks like im going to pick that book back up lol

thanks neeko

stinkypinky · 16/01/2010 13:50

MerryXmas I breastfed for almost a year - fab. Challenging initially, but once you have got the hang of it, it is so convenient. I would recommend getting a few bottles in so after a few weeks you can start expressing, and someone else can do an odd feed so you can go out or nap. This will never work if you are around, as baby must always know the only way to get milk from mum is via boob, and is likely to refuse bottle if boob is available.

I had epidural - no back problems.

I had pram in house from 12 weeks with first... ebay bargain. I do not believe this crap about tempting fate.

Never shifted baby weight until after stopping breastfeeding, but everyone is different.

Snowtiger · 16/01/2010 17:29

Hi all, haven't been on for a while, am scanning through all the messages trying to catch up!

Merryxmas I wouldn't worry about tempting fate, I'd get the essentials in and then at least you won't have to worry about having the baby early and being unprepared!

I also recommend finding out all you can about birth, and if you can afford it, hypnotherapy (aka hypnobirthing) can really help you to stay calm, have minimal medical intervention / pain relief, and have a quick, easy birth. With my DS (now 2 and a half) I had hypnotherapy and my labour was just 8 hours and I only had gas & air. I'm hoping it'll be the same sort of thing this time round!

I breastfed DS1 as well, til he was 4 months old, and had no pain, no discomfort, and loved it - and as a bonus it helped me lose weight, I was back in my normal jeans in about 3 weeks (and did no exercise and ate like a horse!!).

I'm starting to get my head around having another baby - went to Mothercare this morning to get a new mattress for the moses basket (bought the wrong size, helpfully enough) and find out about buggy boards for the bugaboo as am determined not to have to go down the double buggy route! Also went a bit mushy and bought some new baby clothes despite knowing that this one is a boy as well and he can wear all of DS1's hand me downs. Somehow you need to buy tiny weeny sleepsuits to get make it seem real, I think!

Am living with constant indigestion and heartburn though, swigging Gaviscon from the bottle like a wino. It's driving me nuts!

AdelaideJo · 16/01/2010 18:26

Just received an eviction notice from my landlord yesterday. 14 weeks til the birth, we have 8 weeks to get out. You can read the shitty story over at "Am i being unreasonable" under my posting name.

Am trying to be calm but I can't really fathom how i'm going to pack up a 3 bedroom flat while caring for a 2 year old, work 2 days a week with a long commute and look after myself and rest enough all in 8 weeks. It really is a proper F***G nightmare.

Hope everyone's weekend is a lot better than mine!

PrincessTweetz · 16/01/2010 19:29

Adelaide, what a horrible nightmare to be in..we had an eviction notice slammed on us when I was last pregnant, just after dp had lost his job, n it was such a horrible time, we didn't have enough money to put a bond down on a new place, and wasn't sure if the council could rehome us due to the fact we had rent arrears...we also had issues with repairs around the home. I hope you get this sorted asap, n don't find it too stressful...obv that is a stupid thing to say though!! x
Snowtiger, I went to Mothercare this morning for a moses basket mattress as well!! They didn't have the size I wanted though, nor did they have crib size sheets or blankets, nor did they have the layette hats I wanted to pick up, so I came away empty handed feeling stupidly tearful. DD had behaved impeccably at the shop before Mothercare, but the temptation of all the toys, along with a need for a nap made her grumpy n stroppy....n gave her a grumpy n stroppy mummy too Off to ToysRus tomoz to try again...even more toys there though My mum n DP say I'm being silly and have loads of time before Jude comes along, but I'm trying to tie up the loose ends on the tiddly bits so I can tick off each section on my list in full...hopefully some of you mummies understand hehe x

AdelaideJo · 16/01/2010 19:41

Tweetz what really pisses me off, is that we've not been one day late with our rent each month. We've only lived here 4 months! Basically we've had to have lots of repairs done on the place, plumbing and electricals, and clearly the landlord has had enough of us costing him money.

You have to be a special kind of bastard to evict a family and pregnant person for that reason though, at this time, I think. Sorry to bring the thread down by the way laydees.

ReneRusso · 16/01/2010 22:23

AdelaideJo, so sorry for what is happening to you. Is it possible that the landlord doesn't know you are pregnant? Maybe s/he is being forced to sell the property due to financial problems? It is completely unacceptable not to be able to have a hot bath, regardless that you're leaving the property soon. Your letting agent should know that. If I were you I wouldn't withhold rent but I would get back to the letting agent and insist on their plumber attending. If they refuse then tell them you have no choice but to call out a plumber yourself. Then pay the rent less the cost of the plumber.

thedollshouse · 18/01/2010 09:22

Sorry to hear about that AdelaideJo. My niece was evicted when she was pregnant because the landlord didn't want children in the house. There really are some heartless people around.

Snowtiger · 18/01/2010 09:28

AdelaideJo you poor thing that sounds like a nightmare, I wish I had some helpful advice but I don't I'm afraid - plenty of sympathy though and I really hope that you manage to find a new flat, with a nicer landlord and which doesn't need any repairs doing to it, very very quickly!

Tweetz I'm with you on the ticking-things-off-the-list front, I've still got 12 weeks to go supposedly (although DS1 was nearly 2 wks early so I'm not banking on having all that time) and I want to make sure I've got all the stuff I need well in advance of that.

My plan is to have everything ready and sorted by March so that I can spend my final 5 weeks preparing myself for the birth (osteopaths, hypnotherapy CDs and perineal massage! Ooh sounds like fun doesn't it, but it worked with DS1) and filling my freezer with tin foil trays of home cooked scrumminess like lasagne, cauliflower cheese, pasta sauces and moussaka so that when DH's paternity leave is over I don't have to worry about cooking for a good couple of weeks!

Is anyone else going bonkers on the preparation / to-do list? I know I'm a control freak at the best of times but I really find it's the only way to quell the rising panic. DH thinks I'm barmy.

MILismad · 18/01/2010 12:01

Hi I am due April 12th with my 2nd. anyone from Wirral?

merryxmasfellowbumps · 18/01/2010 12:26

adelaidejo sorry to hear about your news , havent got any answers im afraid but my thoughts go out to you and your family, and try not to stress to much as it wont do bump any good.

and thanks guys for the advice from before
will start buying as and when i can now i think.
chronic rib pain today so bloody uncomfortable, any advice on wat i can do to ease it ??

MILismad im not from wirral, just didnt want to ignore your post , im due the 5th april, hope all is well

BedtimeBear · 18/01/2010 14:41

adelaidejo That really sucks. When I was pregnant with DS we had to move at short notice as we lived in a shared house with no room for a baby. Although we weren't actually being evicted as such, the council could not have been more unhelpful, and 4 years later we are still waiting to hear from them!! B*stards. (luckily we are all stettled somewhere lovely now) I hope everything works out for you.

Had a private sexing scan yesterday (at 28+5) as they couldn't tell at the 20 week one, and I'm just too impatient to wait! Apparently it's a girl- SHOCK!! Was sooo expecting another blue one. Made sure I got a copy of the 'girl bits' photo, in which you can see the 'white lines'. Anyway, I'm now talking myself out of the fact that it really is a girl... what do you ladies think are the chances of a scan at this stage being wrong? Paranoia

PS anyone else glad the effing snow is gone?!

pillia78 · 18/01/2010 19:21

Neeko I'm so jealous I haven't heard a thing about my appointment yet!! Been bouncing on my ball lots though!
Tweetz you are sooooo organised you put me to shame! We have the pram and the crib and most other things from DS2 so don't need to buy too much but I have no idea where all the baby stuff is stored!
I know i am being paranoid but I am convinced this baby is transverse (Lying across my tummy) and is not shifting as getting punches and kicks either side of my bump. I know I don't need to worry until 36 weeks but he just seems to have been like that for a couple of weeks now. Guess I should read up on C-Sections!!!!

Neeko · 18/01/2010 21:06

Pillia The physio was great. Lovely lady and gave me exercises to do and tubi grip for the bump. Also splints for my hands due to carpal tunnel - I'll look gorgeous! She said the best thing to do is to press your knees tightly together when turning in bed or standing up to give you support and also to be religious about your pelvic floor and abdominal exercises. I think we're having mirror pregnancies as I'm also worried about baby being transverse. I have my scan for the baby's kidney next Monday so I should know more then.

Tweetz I'm also obsessed I bought some bottles today in case breast-feeding goes wrong this time. I've also already packed my labour bag and have a huuuge list of things to tick off in the next few weeks.

Adelaide Really sorry to hear your news. Hope you get sorted soon.

AdelaideJo · 18/01/2010 21:22

Thanks for your thoughts...been out looking for places all day...SOOOOO tiresome and grrrrr. And bloody tiring.

Have been reading all the posts about preparation - I had finished the baby's room and now have to pack it up again (insert laughing "irony" emoticon here)!

Anyway, when i've got some uplifting and pleasant news/chat i'll pop back..take care bumpys. x

Rtuff · 19/01/2010 10:01

Morning everyone!

Adelaidejo Really sorry to hear about your situation, i do hope you get sorted soon!

I can't believe you all are so organised! You all put me to shame, the only thing i have bought so far is a baby grow!! Although i do already have a mountain of stuff from DS1 for our new little boy to have... 2 weeks and then it's time for our last minute holiday, so trying to get organised for that also, really struggling to find any nice summery clothes... any suggestions?? Have a slight panic about the 12 hour flight as well! What if i go into labour on the plane! Wouldn't that be horrendous!

Also found out that baby is breech, ds1 was also breech resulting in c-section, so for my vbac vs elective c-section dilema i've made my mind up (or should i say my minds been made up for me!).

Hello to all newbies!

Anyway enough of my ramble!

I hope everyone is well (as can be expected) !!!

Hope you have some good news soon Adelaide!

flybynight · 19/01/2010 15:43

Hi Adelaidejo. I just wanted to say that we were given notice to move out when I was 7 months gone with dc3. The house we found was actually better and more suited to family life than the one we had been in, so hopefully, the cloud will have a silver lining.

Thinking of you though. I know how unsettling it is.

PrincessTweetz · 19/01/2010 19:38

I think Jude must be lying sideways as well, cuz I feel kicks and thuds either sides of my stomach as well!! They are real protruding movements now..I love it tho! I can feel a ball of something right now, and can never help myself from lifting my top and having a good old feel lol..I like tickling my belly too, to see if I can get a movement reaction..love it!
I had blood tests yesterday to check iron levels are still ok, and I have another set around 34/35 weeks I think...looking so far so very good for my much longed for homebirth...and as of Sunday just gone, I have 10 weeks left!!
