Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
stinkypinky · 03/12/2009 18:57

20 week scan today - all looking good, growth according to dates, and all important bits accounted for. Baby kept knees together so no idea of gender. Forth Valley have a policy of not disclosing gender, but offered a private sexing scan for £90.

Feeling very grateful...

tostaky · 03/12/2009 21:57

flybynight have you got some family/support? i hope you get better very soon!!

my DS is refusing to eat at the moment and i keep thinking "how am i going to do with two at meal times?" and DP says "what about three?"

pillia78 · 04/12/2009 12:50

bad luck hoops the exact same thing happened to when I was pregnant with DS2 and I was stuck on the floor with only DS1 at home!!
nicnac that is a relief for you, congrats!
Been for my antenatal this morning and saw my GP as my Midwide is useless! Anyway, I have a throat infection, thrush in my mouth and apparently a bladder infection?? Feeling sorry for myself now, but baby all okay!

Bettymum · 04/12/2009 13:14

pillia hope you feel better soon too!
tostaky is your DP my DH? He keeps going on about number three as well ! I keep telling him look I haven't even had number two yet, can we just wait till he's here before we start thinking about the next one!!

wellieboot · 04/12/2009 14:55

So pleased nicnac . Now you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

nicnacinoonoo · 04/12/2009 15:22

thanks everyone, yeah wellieboot thats exactly how i feel

anyone on here been awake for a cs before to tell me what it feels like. im sure ill be quite nervous when it comes to it but at least being awake ill be able to see the baby straight away.

cant believe people are thinking of the next 1 already! this is definitely the last for us we think. although might be pregnant again in the future as my friend is having trouble at the moment and may have to have her other tube taken out so i told her if she ever wanted another baby in the future i would surrogate for her. we'l deal with that if and when it comes to it though.

hope everyone who's not well gets better soon.

C1NDY · 04/12/2009 15:37

Nic I had to have an emergency C-Section and you are awake. The only downside is that they need to inject you so that you cannot feel anything neck down... so you can't move your arms and legs for about 3 hours after the operation...but saying that I started to move my legs soon than the 3 hours. They don't let you see the baby straightaway as it needs to get cleaned up... i.e they remove the mucus from the babies lungs etc... this is normal for a baby who has been delivered by C-Section. I breastfed my little one straightaway but it was hard as the nurse had to place the baby on me as I could not move my upper body. Not being able to cuddle my baby straightaway was hard but at least she was delivered safe and well! I have to have another C-Sec as I have problems so hopefully it will be smoother this time around not looking forward to not being able to feel anything but if it means my baby will have a safe delivery then so be it. I am sure yours will be fine. When is yours booked for?

miceju · 04/12/2009 16:12

hmm baby miceju has gone missing from the list, so just adding him again!

nicnac, I'm so happy to hear about the consultant! My midwife told me the exact same thing and I'm currently waiting for an appointment with a consultant... Then again, at our last meeting she also stated there's no such thing as SPD - which my GP diagnosed with no doubt a week later...oh well

AdelaideJo · 04/12/2009 18:00

Hi,

An ordinary C-section is done under a combined spinal/epidural and you are usually awake. Its highly unusual to not be able to move your upper body i.e. arms and I'm not sure at all why that happened to you Cindy! FWIW, if you have a spinal which reaches your neck you wouldn't be able to breathe in and out and would likely end up in intenstive care!

A 'crash' section often involves the mum having a general anaesthetic to go to sleep because the decision to perform a section is often taken at the last minute and there is no time for a regional anaesthetic.

jabuti · 04/12/2009 21:01

just adding to the c-section talk... i had an emergency c-section and only my legs that i couldnt feel.

by the time they were done with the stitches, i was able to move my toes and feet already.

im pregnant with number 2 now, and going for c-section again

eastendmummy · 04/12/2009 21:12

Hi ladies. I posted on the April thread before it disappeared and haven't been back since - sorry. Just had a quick scan of the most recent posts and it's good to see so many people here.

I've got one ds already aged 22 months and due on 8th April with ds2 although having an elcs so probably going to be born on 1st/2nd . Maybe an April fools baby! I could also move my arms during the surgery, so much so that they had to tie them to 2 little tables as I was shaking so violently from the epidural - delightful! Still, having another one as overall it wasn't too bad!

I'm looking forward to the next few months and being able to share all the ups and downs with you all!

jabuti · 04/12/2009 22:13

oh yes, i forgot about that! i was shaking too.

nicnacinoonoo · 05/12/2009 08:16

i had to have a general with my first, i already had an epidural in from labour which they topped up hoping to do it that way first but it didnt work fast enough.

i go back at 36 weeks to get it booked so wont have a date until then. he's written on my notes elective cs at 39 weeks though so looks like i might have an april 1st baby too, as its easter weekend that weekend so they wont book any in on the friday, sat, sun or mon i wouldnt have thought.

with having both lots of anesthetic last time i had to wait till i woke up to see my baby and i had numb legs so couldnt get out of bed straight away. along with having a catheter in and these things on my legs that kept inflating and deflating ha. it was all ok though i felt fine after the op apart from the obvious pain when you laugh, cough or sneeze!

im hoping that not having to wait till i wake up this time will help me with breast feeding.

also i was glued last time which i am going to request again when i go in for my pre op a couple of days before. it was nice not having any stitches or staples to be taken out and my scar is really neat and tidy.

anyone else been glued?

tostaky · 05/12/2009 11:44

I was glued too. I thought it was pretty standard now?
I could also use my arms freely and i wasnt shaking (i had an epidural).
hoping for VBAC... though my emcs was pretty good - i dont mind having another one if VBAC doesnt work out.

I have been thinking this morning... how am i going to have a shower with a toddler and a newborn?

Obviously the newborn goes into the cot but what do i do with the toddler? Strap him to the sofa? I have a friend who takes her DD into the bathroom with her, on a highchair. Any ideas?

jabuti · 05/12/2009 15:23

i had stitches that dissolved... it healed really nicely

shelinka · 07/12/2009 06:30

tostaky about the shower thing - when dd was born, ds was 1yr 10 months old. When I went in the shower, I'd put her in her cot with her mobile, and strap him in his pushchair or highchair, which I would then bring into the bathroom (we lived in a flat then, so it was easy enough). I would have a quick shower and talk and sing to him the whole time.

Now they are both at nursery (ds starting school in septempber) so I won't have that problem this time.

nicnacinoonoo · 07/12/2009 08:19

how about taping some paper to the highchair table bit and giving him some crayons so he can amuse himself colouring whilst you shower.

when i told the consultant i was glued he was a bit and thought id gone somewhere else to have it done. its down the the indiviual surgeons preference most of the time. they said i might not have another who likes using glue but if i tell them i dont want stitches or staples that need taking out they'll most likely use the dissolvable ones.

C1NDY · 07/12/2009 10:39

Not sure why my arms didn't move but they didn't. I did have an epidural early in the morning and then they did another for the emergency c-sec... all I remember is not being able to use my arms and legs... but slowly they came through. I could breathe properly and was wide awake. Ade I am not sure why this happened, I thought it was normal, I was not in intensive care though and recovered very well.

Bettymum · 07/12/2009 14:03

tostaky what do you do with your DS now while you're in the shower? Can't he do whatever it is that he does now while the newborn is in the cot? Or are you worried he'll wander off and jump on the baby while you're naked in the shower with a head full of shampoo?

dani87 · 08/12/2009 13:00

hi all how is everyone? well im absolutly shattered dd is ill has terrible ear infection shes on antibiotics but i cant seem to get her to take it. ive tried putting it in her juice and somehow she knows its there. does anyone have any ideas that worked for dc? im at my tether as shes been like this since last fri and ive had no sleep . any suggestions im willing to try anything!

hope everyone is ok though

Snowtiger · 08/12/2009 13:22

Hi ladies

Dani I sympathise, DS is on antibiotics for ear / throat / chest infection (as am I, oh joy of joys) and yesterday we had an hour long mexican stand off before he finally took his medicine (but only because I said no snacks, no CBeebies and no dinner until he took it!)

This morning I put it in his morning cup of milk, which he didn't finish so I then poured it on his cereal. We then went out specifically to buy chocolate buttons on the understanding that he could have 3 buttons after his medicine every time he takes it, and couldn't have any otherwise. He never has chocolate at home so this is a really huge treat for him. Worked like a dream at lunchtime, let's hope it continues to do so.

Hope everyone else is doing OK. I'm feeling rough after 9 days of illness with this cough / cold / chest infection thing and it's forced my hand a bit regarding the swine flu jab. I'd made up my mind not to have it, thinking "I'm a healthy sort, I'll be fine" but have been astonished at how this cough / cold thing has knocked me sideways. I've felt so ill and weak and am coughing all night, doing ventolin inhaler countless times a day and feeling very sorry for myself. Usually I rarely catch colds and when I do I get over them quickly - never get secondary infections - so this has really shown me how vulnerable I am being pregnant. Bump is taking all the nutrients he needs, which is lovely, but it's leaving me wanting, so I'm just not recovering quickly enough at all. Hence, booked in for the SF jab next Weds. I'm not happy about it and feel like a bit of a failure for having it but don't know what else to do. I'm at risk either way and can't bear the thought of catching it and developing pneumonia or getting other complications.

Other than that am doing OK. 22.5 weeks now and starting to get really quite freaked out at the thought of having another baby!! Also quite excited though, bump is wriggling around a lot and sitting on my bladder, which is kind.

Oh, and that's the real downside of a chest infection when pregnant with your second child, of course... Coughing constantly, and every time I cough, I wet myself. Stylish eh?

Neeko · 08/12/2009 13:40

Dani bribery and corruption works everytime: sweets, sticker charts, DVDs - whatever your DD loves. It's more important that she gets her medicine at this point than too much choc.

Snowtiger i'm getting my vac on Saturday. not 100% happy about it either but accepting it's the right thing to do.

I fell down 3 stairs last night and landed on the stair gate. vey painful and walking like an invalid today but plenty of kicks from baby so at least he/she is ok.

Hope everyone else is well.

CinnabarRed · 08/12/2009 13:53

Snowtiger - me too! I hate the whole cough-wee cycle.

I've been trying to keep off Mumsnet at work so haven't been around; sorry to have missed so much, it's been great to catch up with you all. Glad things are going well in the main.

Hi All,

Back from Eurodisney and totally knackered! Don't know how I managed it - walking around or standing in queues all day long and carrying/picking up 2yr old DS a lot too. But recovering now at last.

Had my 20 wk scan yesterday and all was fine with baby. Didn't find out the sex. Baby was being difficult and wouldn't turn it's head to be measured properly, so we had a good long look at it!

Z xx

Toady · 08/12/2009 19:06

dani87

Have exactly the same trouble with my 4 year old DS. Have you tried a syringe, can get them with your prescription or if not Boots sell them for about £1.20.

His cough has just started up again and just half forced some calpol down his throat, I tried to give him a choice spoon or syringe but he wouldn't have it. This does not work everytime but have found it really necessary when I am trying to get a course of antibiotics down him, in the end he does accept it.
