helips The doctor prescribed Codeine Phosphate, I'm not sure if you can get that over the counter. He said I have only to take it if I really need to, as it is quite strong and can have side effects. However, for the past week I have been taking cocodomol, on the advice of the hospital midwife. She said it was fine to take at the normal dose, although if it is needed for more than a week to see a doctor. I would ring a midwife to check it is ok for you if you need more than the odd dose though.

We have treated ourselves to an indian takeaway for tea, we have just had the starters (and let DD stay up late to have some, and a small glass of "busy pop" - her name for lemonade) and are now having a break before settloing down for the main course. DP is upstairs Wow-ing, and I am down here mn-ing. So everyone is happy

Laugs · 14/10/2009 20:15

When are you due?

It's amazing the difference a few weeks make at this stage. I see everyone wishing their babies would arrive, while I am willing mine to stay put. Due end of Nov, so still 6 weeks to go here.

Trikken · 14/10/2009 20:22

The 6th, so just over three weeks. hoping i dont go overdue like i did with ds, he was ten days late.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/10/2009 20:28

i have just bought one of these for the baby to bounce in...i got it for a bargain £20 (it was up for £25, i offered £15, she counter offered £20) and local pick up, so saved £8 there too! They are going for £70 new

raggie · 14/10/2009 20:33

Aw thanks laugs - finally seeing dh (and the new house!) this weekend. My dad and stepmum coming to visit too so get to show off our new abode!

I've just been watching The Inbetweeners on 4OD - didn't rate it much at first but the second series has had me laughing out loud! Cheered me up

Trikken · 14/10/2009 20:35

looks good pav, sounds like you got yourself a bargain.

Laugs · 14/10/2009 20:36

trikken DD was 2 weeks late too. I was so sure I was going to be early as well, as it ran in the family and I thought my dates were wrong, so I ended up feeling like labour could be imminent for about 8 weeks . This time I am trying to think it will probably arrive in December so I don't get too stressed by it all.

pavlov Bargain . I must find our bouncy chair. DD loved it.

It occurred to me today that maybe I should be getting this baby a Christmas present. It will be about 2 weeks old. But if I don't at least give it a stocking, DD will know something is up. What do you put in a stocking for a 2 week old?? Socks, teddy, rattle, maybe a few nappies to take up lots of space...?

Laugs · 14/10/2009 20:38

I love The Inbetweeners! So true to life... I never manage to watch it as it seems to be on so late.

Have fun showing off your new home raggie. And see if you can bump into the 2 other pregnant ladies on your street

claired21 · 14/10/2009 20:44

Laugs I found a lovely Christmas present for baby in Blooming Marvellous - it's called Baby's First Canvas and includes everything you need to create a canvas print of foot and handprints in either pink or blue paint. More a gift for us I suppose but it helps fill a stocking!

raggie · 14/10/2009 21:06

laugs - you have a good memory! I suppose it won't be hard to spot who the other NCT class members though...!

Phew: no other DCs means will just have to be the billions of things I've already bought DD-to-be(!) which are her Xmas pressie. Although I'm sure I'll be unable to resist a few more by the time Christmas rolls around. Well done on the bargainous chair by the way pav.

Q for all you clever, experienced ones: changing bags - how necessary? I mean, I KNOW I need a baby bag, but do I need one of those fancy -pants ones. What do you recommend. Feel like the shops are trying to rip me off with a 'changing bag' when all I need is a...bag. With a few pockets.

What say you?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/10/2009 21:15

raggie - i asked the question too a while ago, and have decided that am re-using my Animal laptop/messenger bag which I used for DD. Was DHs and i stole it (to be fair he stole it from me first!). It is a bit yuck inside, but a good cleanup will sort it out. It is sturdy, with good strong shoulder straps supported and padded. It has mesh bottle holders each side on the outside. It has two large sep compartments for toys/etc and then clothes/nappies, then it has 3 pockets inside for nappy bags, dirty clothes and one for food/bottles etc. Outside, under flap there are places for mobile phones, zipped pockets for wallet, keys etc. Blah blah I love it and decided why am i considering buying something else?!!!

It is similar to www.surfdome.com/animal_backpacks_-animal_mackenzie_satchel_bag-_castor_grey-15263 this]] with outside mesh for bottles. The stuff for wallets etc is under the flap. And its cheaper.

Or else get the Boots cheap one. I am going to get that too for the changing mat

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/10/2009 21:15

sorry, i meant here!

helips · 14/10/2009 21:18

Thanks lissy and laugs I've got another appointment with the chiropractor tomorrow, if that doesn't work I might try acupuncture. Failing that I will be off to the GP for some painkillers, can't put up with this for much longer!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/10/2009 21:18

Why is it that whenever I get a craving for something really sour to drink, like grapefruit juice, I also get serious avid indigestion?

I am really thirsty but cannot bear the thought of water or squash, or fruit tea. So DH has gone to shops to get me grapefruit juice as that is all i fancy, and since he has left, I have developed horrid acid .

. Best give some a go though eh? Seeing as he is going up there just for it...

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/10/2009 21:19

helips i am sorry you are in such pain for you...we are allowed hugs aren't we seeing as we are pregnant?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/10/2009 21:31

night night all xx sleep well

LissyGlitter · 14/10/2009 21:31

raggie tbh I just shove the stuff we need in my handbag or under the pram. Although at this rate I will have two in nappies, so may invest in a special bag...

Hmmm, now we have this money coming through, I think I may buy myself some kind of present. Just something little, for 20 or 30 pounds or so, but I am sick of everything i buy for myself being somehow baby-related or practical (eg i spent £150 on mothercare.com the other night, and it was all boring stuff like breast pumps and pads and so on).

I'm usually a sucker for Lush products, but I know I won't be able to use them for a bit after the section, so don't really want to get a load of those. I hardly ever wear makeup and anyway have boxes and boxes of the stuff, and I can't have a manicure or pedicure as i have heard they take it all off anyway for a section.

Any suggestions for something to make me feel a bit more "me" instead of "mummy"? I'm near Newcastle, if that helps, although walking is a bit of an issue at the moment, so aimless wandering around shops is out.

raggie · 14/10/2009 21:32

thanks for the bag tips pav and lissy.

GFJ has reminded me about rasp leaf tea so off to have some now and hit the sack.

night night!

lemontop · 14/10/2009 21:50

pops head in

Any action? Isaac's two weeks old today . He's been discharged from midwife who came to do another heel blood test. He was very brave, bless him. He's getting very hungry and is gaining weight well but has started screaming when I change him. He feeds every two hours at night. Get your sleep in now if you can! Got both grandmas and a great grandma visiting this weekend. Need to keep my strength up!

Remember to buy packs and packs of sanitary towels for after the birth! I wasn't aware I would still be needing them 2 weeks after!

wook · 14/10/2009 22:03

Raggie there is such a bewildering array of changing bags- with ds we bought the Caboodle rucksack as it was unisex so good for Dh, really cheap, hung over the buggy handles well and had a separate compartment for pooey stuff at the bottom, plus a space for a bottle etc. It lasted 3 years before we gave it away to family and now we have just bought another one (with mumsnet 15% off at Blooming Marvellous!). I looked for hours online for a 'better' changing bag but couldn't find one, (unless you count the Lin & Leo (?) bags which I will not be able to afford any time this century, and which would look a bit silly on dh!)

Southern know just what you mean. I still veer between wanting it over NOW and thinking it's still better to wait a while longer.

Lemontop how amazing- two weeks!

Venus going back to work was not that bad really, just involved getting used to a lot of compromise and having to forget about aiming for perfection in any area!!!

Stormfly · 14/10/2009 22:16

pavlov - hope you enjoyed the grapefruit juice, that is my current favourite too and doesn't seem to cause any worse heartburn than anything else. Lovely and sour it is too and anything I can drink without feeling queasy is good. Off to bed too (via the Gaviscon bottle). lemontop - ah yes, every two hours, that reminds me I must get my Ipod radio thingy fixed for those early hours - hope the World Service has some interesting stuff lined up for November ...

longwayaway · 14/10/2009 23:04

Funny, I'm all about cranberry juice! I mix it with sparkly water. And since it's in the house, DH drinks it too. We go through liters every week.

My aunt bought DH a nappy bag from Polarn O. Pyret while she was visiting She wanted to make sure we had one that looked hip enough for him to wear. TBH it looks like a pretty standard black messenger bag, but it has lots of compartments, lined with plastic, comes with a changing mat and a bag for used nappies.

Thanks for the update, lemontop Glad to hear little Isaac is gaining weight and doing well.

southernbelle77 · 15/10/2009 07:06

THIS is the changing bag I've jsut got! I used a changing bag a lot with dd but hated it looking so much like a changing bag, and well, what can I say, I'm a sucker for 'Kipling' bags anyway so it's just to add to the collection!!

Lemon - Can't believe Issac is already 2 weeks old! Glad he is doing so well and hope the screaming at nappy change time stops soon! Yes, and the need for lots and lots of maternity pads can last quite a while sadly.

Thanks for all your messages after my rather self indulgent post yesterday! I was having a rather bad day and it just all got to me! I'm feeling a bit better now after a (BIT) of a better nights sleep and also think dd might not be so 'challenging' today. I soon discovered why she was behaving as she was when she started crying in pain from being constipated again . She has been doing so well since we last saw the paediatrician and has used the toilet every day or every other day for almost a month, until this week when it's been a week without going so of course it REALLY hurt her to go . She has now been though so hopefully things will improve again and I must remember all the tricks the paed told me.

Anyway, here is to a better day and hopefully a call from the midwife so I can find out what is actually happening and can get my head around how long left I might have!!

Tamlin · 15/10/2009 07:58

I had a scan yesterday which confirmed that this baby is definitely breech, and what I thought was a bony bottom is actually a head. My poor little butthead. Worse, he's gone footling breech (not the safest sort, there's a chance of feet and cord dropping down and tangling up when I'm not very dilated). This means that every time I get a contraction, I'm promptly lying down with my knees up in the hope that everything stops. I'd feel better if I hadn't lost that plug. It turns out that there ARE worse things than wandering around desperately hoping to go into labour - there's wandering around desperately trying to stop it.

I have an ECV booked for one o'clock today, and am nil-by-mouth in case they need to do a crash section (oh please no). Am praying that a) it WORKS, b) it's not too painful, and c) that he doesn't go into too much distress over the whole thing. Apparently the whole thing can bring on labour too (whether it works or not).

helips · 15/10/2009 07:58

Morning all, hope everyone has had a good nights sleep.

pavlov yes, pregnant hugs are definately allowed, thanks

Lissy How about treating yourself to a nice haircut or blowdry as a treat?

lemontop lovely to hear Isaac is doing so well. I remember the feeding every 2 hours at night, sigh, and had forgotten the crying at change times, oh joy! Sounds like you are both doing well though, wonder who will be joining you next!

southernbelle your poor dd, hope she feels better now she's been to the loo!
