Don't have much time to post properly, but wanted to say Lissy that I hope your DH has woken up. It sounds very much like a man in denial thing, but that is not excuse to take it out on you! DH did that kind of thing a lot in pg#1 but has been better this time.

wook Doh. SO glad you are well.

erika I read an article in our local paper about a guy who suffered from ME for 20 years (I HOPE it doesn't last that long with you!!) but then got over it and to celebrate he took 2 years off work and cycled to Australia. He's there now, 7 months early so he's decided to to the rest of the world (N America via NZ) too, all in aid of ME. I can post his giving website if you like - sounds like a great guy. I was just so happy to hear that it's possible to get over ME even after such a long time. My friend's mum has had it for 15 years now and we'd kind of lost hope for her. Saying that, I know folk who only had it for a year or two as well.

My word the bean has jumped into action! It's been ferreting around in there for the past 24 hours seemingly non-stop. It feels like it's trying hard to push down but is failing - cue neurosis about the shape of my pelvis. I'm exhausted by it (and hoovering, and doing the weekly shop single-handed, and going for a walk in the woods). My pelvis is really sore at the back so I've definitely overdone it. The other side to usual is complaining so things must be loosening up. I'm seeing the osteo on Monday so can't wait. Meanwhile I'm waddling like a drunken penguin hhmm]

Fruitpastels · 18/10/2009 07:49

Morning ladies,

Well we had a false alarm last night and was convinced baby was on the way. We even called MIL to come over to stay the night as a stand-by. I was having BH's for 3 hrs every 6 mins and to start off with they were very, very painful. Phoned the midwife and she advised to have a warm bath and take some paracetamol, then if it continues to and they are painful then make my way to hospital. It all came to a halt after midnight . Managed to sleep most of the night as I felt totally exhausted. It seems the baby is floating in and out of my pelvis, and gravity during the day is pushing the baby very low down, making it very diffcult to be mobile and comfortable, to the point of being unable to sit down due to the pressure being too much to deal with, then when I sleep the baby moves itself upwards and gives me a chance to feel normal for a little while. Never had this with DS so new experience for me. I'm just hoping this is all good signs that the baby isn't far off from arriving.

Hope we are all ok this morning

Tamlin · 18/10/2009 10:13

Fruitpastels, sounds as if your night was about as much fun as mine. The midwife at the hospital said that while I was having small contractions that showed on the monitor, they were still just 'tightenings' and not the real thing. They are, however, bloody painful - like a cross between menstrual cramps and cystitis - because of the baby's position with his feet and knees tucked into my cervix and bladder. I had contractions every nine minutes all night, and I kept falling asleep in between them only to get jolted awake again, swearing. I also lost (yet more) mucous plug. (How much plug do we HAVE anyway?!) Usually I'd be really excited about all of this, but instead, I'm just frightened - I am absolutely terrified of dilating now in case the baby's cord or feet drop down.

It is very weird to go from anticipating labour symptoms to dreading them in the space of half a week. I'm spending a lot of time with my hips elevated and I went swimming on my front yesterday (with a very nervous DH in tow) but nothing seems to be shifting this child around - even handstands in the deep end! I guess the doctors were right, and he is well and truly trapped there.

sleeplessinthecity · 18/10/2009 10:46

Fruitpastels and Tamlin What a scare.. are you both ok??? Its all happening now and try not to be too nervous and scared..Just take it as a good sign that things are coming closer and that you'll be more prepared...

Tamlin have you tried getting on all fours? i hope the baby turns soon as it sounds uncomfortable. The head is bad enough down there not sure I want feet kicking..

Thinking of you both..take care and good luck..

ErikaMaye · 18/10/2009 12:02

Hobnob ohh yes please, would be very interested to read Its been 20 months ish now, and to be honest it doesn't tend to bother me that much most of the time - this is kinda what I'm used to know!!! Although I do miss dancing and running so very much. And rowing. And climbing... Okay, so maybe I would like my old life back I hope your friends mum can recover, I can't imagine being like this for that long...

Tamlin and Fruit what a nightmare of an evening for you both Take it easy today.

DP and I are being very lazy today. Just got out of bed - going to pop to the shops so I can get a bra (as my bikini top is the only thing that fits at the moment!!) and we can look for some books for Bryn

Oh, and Bryn kicked DP in the nose last night, was absolutely hilarious!!!

Hope you're all well today.

Fruitpastels · 18/10/2009 12:44

I think this baby is playing tricks on me. Apart from a few BH's this morning, baby has moved away from my pelvis and I feel rather normal. So I could be here wishing this baby to arrive for a bit longer. With DS I didn't lose my plug and my waters didn't break and I've had no sign of these so far with this baby. I am worried it will happen soon and rather quickly! Tamlin I'm sorry you're having such a bad time. Sounds like you are doing everything you can to get your baby to turn. How far along are you now? Are you booked in for a c-section yet?

scarlotti · 18/10/2009 13:09

Tamlin am so sorry to hear this has become so stressful for you, especially as your last labour was pretty stressful too. I have no wondrous advice but am sending my sympathies and patience vibes Are they suggesting a c-section now then and if so, when would that be?

Fruit hope you're feeling ok this morning, sounds like quite a night there too.

Nothing major to report here. Constipation seems to have come back, shame as was getting used to things being easier! Twinges in my pelvis so presume he's heading further down. Guess it's just the waiting game now.

hobnob57 · 18/10/2009 13:51

Oooh, fruit and tamlin, I really hope that things either move or settle down for you. The will-it-won't-it stage is so wearing. I was feeling sorry for myself last night with a cranky pelvis and a hint of the runs and nausea but it's all sorted itself overnight seemingly. And baby has moved from trying to stretch down into my pelvis to being curled round with its head to the 'wrong' side, which is quite painful.

erika the link to the news story is here and his giving website is here.

DD has lost interest in potato printing Christmas cards . Shame, as we're only half way through! I think I'll have to give her a break with some star stickers for a while!
DH has decided it's time he brushed up on labour and is reading 'what to expect' as I type.
And we've decided to reassemble the cot bed as a cot since DD is in no way still attached to it - she loves her room too much - and it'll be a useful high surface to collect presents on and use a changing mat on in the first couple of months until baby starts using it for naps. And I don't see us being arsed assembling it one dark weekend in the new year with 2 kids on the go somehow.

ldeeanna · 18/10/2009 16:28

Hi do you know what? I lost this post the other day-could not find it!! So now I am so so behind!! So will spend the next few hours catching up on 12-13 pages, not easy!!! I wonder if anyone else had had their baby?!!

Anyone recommend a good, light car seat-we dont drive so not too expensive but still comfy for the baby?!!

Venusinfers Thank you for understanding the pain of my stalker!! Its got worse-she did something really weird last night, I told her I had to go as we have friends over and I have to cook-she pulled this bizarre face as if she was going to break rage or cry-but still stayed half an hour and I think she stole something quite important from my desk-and I know she wouldnt want it for herself, I think it would just be to spite me as I told her to go???!! So I spent all night feeling literally sick and to top it off she wants to spend my day off with me on Tuesday-the only excuse I could have is to go into labour!!! Maybe I'll ask for a sweep on Monday?!!!

Kyte!! Im so sorry to hear you had a rubbish day the other day with the meat incident!! Just wondering do you know if you are having a boy or a girl? Sounds strange but I want to send you something that will cheer you up!! If you dont think im a complete weirdo-send me your address to my email [email protected] !!! Your story upset me-maybe its the hormones!!
We are a bit tight on our budget too and its so frustrating, so I feel your pain on the meat thing, I burnt a really nice pizza the other day-went to loads of effort with adding loads of toppings, spices, chicken etc put it in the oven and forgot about it and it burnt to a near crisp-I thought I would die of the fumes that came from it-could have cried, meant I had to walk all the way back to the supermarket, spend another £5 plus veg and chicken for toppings and then remake it!! It would have been easier and cheaper to get a take away!!!

Hope everyone else is ok? Not suffering from heartburn, BH's and headbutting too much!!! Lots of people keep saying that my bump looks ready to pop and that I wont last my remainding 4 weeks 3 days!! AaAahh not ready!!!! Who knows though!!

ldeeanna · 18/10/2009 16:30

Kyte that email has come up wrong-there are underscores between liza, hayward and 2005!!!

wook · 18/10/2009 17:30

Tamlin and Fruit sorry too hear that you are both having such a frustrating and painful time of it.

I have stopped cleaning now and feel a big sense of anticlimax as I haven't gone into labour or anything as a result of all the deranged scrubbing! But the house looks better anyway and some things are actually shiny

It really was a very odd feeling, that I literally could not rest until everything was disinfected, free of limescale, hoovered up and so on. Crashed out in lovely tidy room and vegged in front of x factor in the end, having been cleaning for 12 hours nonstop. Hormones eh! Or maybe it was the electricity?!

Hobnob you sound fantastically organised with the xmas cards, I am really impressed.

Laugs · 18/10/2009 18:55

Had a busy weekend so just trying to catch up with you all. I came on half expecting to here of another new arrival.

wook We have had an afternoon of mad cleaning too. It's so strange isn't it? I don't feel at all like labour is imminent, but really, really wanted to clean the flat from top to toe. The only thing is I haven't tackled our bedroom yet and it is really frustrating me. I am sitting trying to watch Monsters Inc with DD as a little Sunday night treat, but all I can think is I don't want to leave a lovely clean sitting room to go to bed in that tip.

tamlin and fruitpastels I hope you're both having better evenings today and have no more false alarms. Esp you, Tamlin, with the whole hips in the air thing - that must be incredibly stressful for you. I think in the end, you might find it a relief when Friday comes.

erika / hobnob A good friend of mine was off work with ME/CFS for about 18 months. She went back part-time about 6 months ago and is gradually working back up to full-time, but she still has to be very careful not to tire herself out with late nights etc. She's much improved from how bad she was though. Hopefully Erika your ME will also be (relatively) short-term.

LissyGlitter · 18/10/2009 19:35

I very nearly went to hospital before. I was getting regular contractions (not as painful as DD, but you hear of women walking about through contractions, so I doubt everyone gets the full strength ones straight away!) and they were getting more regular, even after a bath and a drink of water. But then, just as i had made up my mind to ring the midwife, they stopped.

Now I have to do an assignment that is due in tomorrow. Only an easy 500 word one, but i had convinced myself I would get out of it by having a baby!

Comma2 · 18/10/2009 20:02

Sorry Lissy that it didn't work out! It's all helping though.

I have scrubbed most of the floor on my knees, and it looks very nice. But then DD woke up, 'helped', and DH said water was coming from the ceiling in the basement.

Sex (DH is under contract for tonight), scrubbing, was planning on pineapple but too lazy to go to store....hope something happens soon....geesh, I hate this stress in the last days with positioning baby/getting things started, having to worry about c section etc instead of lying back in your recliner and peacefuly waiting for the little bugger to arrive.

katster37 · 18/10/2009 21:08

LissyGlitter just wanted to pop in and say I hope you're OK. Did you get the discharge/bloody show checked out with the MW? And also wanted to say I think your DH was out of order yesterday, and you have every right to be hormonal. You are 8 months pregnant!!!

Fruitpastels eeek for labour scare!! When is your EDD? Sounds like things are getting underway!!

Southernbelle your Saturday night/Sunday morning sounds ideal! I seem unable to sleep past 6.30am at the minute, think my body is getting me in training, or something.

I have been busy on all fours trying to get baby to move into a more favourable position... How is it Sunday night already?

hobnob57 · 18/10/2009 22:37

Mmm had a lovely bit of pineapple tonight but haven't noticed it do anything yet..

Having been to pg yoga both times I've heard a lot about being on all fours and optimal foetal positioning, but the consultant midwife I saw last week told me not to stress at all about baby's position as that it what labour is designed to do - get baby into the best position. I'm tempted to listen to her as crashing out on the sofa is preferable to hunching over a ball of an evening, but then I think that back to back births can't be nice and labour hasn't worked then.

wook's cleaning efforts are commendable. I'm still very whismiscal about it - I'll have days when I need to be productive and days when I just don't care. I think I'm approaching the stage now that I just need to keep on top of things (no mean feat) and will get bored and despondent quite quickly.

I'm honestly not that organised about Christmas cards - I just hate writing them, DH is worse and we always put it off until the last minute. I can see it not happening this year, so having some ready-made keeps DD entertained whilst I'm at home (well, until recently) and ticks off another job from the list. We'll have those awful computer printed inserts to keep life easy the other end too, doubling as a birth announcement card. I draw the line at mail merged envelope labels though!

Now presents - that's another issue entirely. I never browse the shops, I rarely see those I'm closest to to have an inkling of what to get them and I'm just clueless so that WILL be a last minute thing I think. Thinking is not my strong point at the moment. Routine tasks rock.

LissyGlitter · 18/10/2009 23:04

Ooh, christmas cards as birth announcements! What a lovely idea, obviously only if the baby comes in the last half of november though.

I suspect this will be yet another lifechanging announcement I make via text and facebook tbh. I'm far too lazy for writing stuff out, and anyway most of my friends are still in houseshares where they move house every five minutes, so I don't have many addresses.

My 16 year old sister is trying to ban me sending any pictures to anyone before she has seen the baby - considering she is in college in the week and works at the weekend, she will have a job getting here within two weeks, so I think she will just have to cope with just getting a preview of pictures before they go on facebook I'm afraid! She also tried for the ILs to wait for her to see the baby before they see her. Considering they live three doors down the street and she lives 2 and a half hours away by car, I don't think that will happen! She got to sneak into the recovery room about half an hour after the section with DD (god knows how she got past the midwives, she was only just 14 at the time as well!) so this time she will have to cope with waiting a little. The baby won't know anyway.

16 year olds are odd anyway, and she is particulary strange. Bless her.

Full of BH, nausea, heartburn and generally feeling odd. Plus this stupid assignment is dragging.

longwayaway · 18/10/2009 23:11

I've got a bunch of things on my to-do list that I want to knock off, but I'm afraid it's too early. For example - buying nursing tops/bras. My boobs jumped from 34C to 38C by the end of my first tri but haven't changed since. Is it stupid to buy nursing bras in my current size if I'm at 35w?

I also want to get together homebirth supplies - plastic sheeting, old towels, etc - but I don't have my home visit with my MW until 37w, which is the earliest she can sign off on the HB plan.

Christmas cards sound like a nice project... and with the baby due at the end of November of course it would make sense to combine them with birth announcements. So not much sense working on those yet, either!

Arghhh, can't stand to just sit here and twiddle my thumbs! Give me something to do!

LissyGlitter · 18/10/2009 23:14

I went and got measured at marks and sparks yesterday and I'm 35 weeks. The woman knew what adjustments to make - I think she reduced the back measurement and increased the cup, making me a 32G, which alarmed me somewhat!

LissyGlitter · 18/10/2009 23:44

But yeah, you definitely will change size when your milk comes in - i couldn't even fasten my maternity bras a couple of days after DD was born. They went down to a more normal size after a bit though.

Comma2 · 19/10/2009 00:13

Nursing bras are so difficult. I ordered really expensive ones and really cheap ones and none fit. Allowing for expansion. This is 2nd dc and so far nothing happened on the cup size. Not that I would mind.

My 20 week scan said my due date should be october 31, my ovulation computer (yes yes, ttc for too long) said Nov 4....do I dare think I'm a week ahead of myself (not that matters, but good for brain?)?

All the best to those of you that seem to have things happening in case you have to take off suddenly! Very exciting.

ErikaMaye · 19/10/2009 03:10

I've been awake for over an hour now grumbles Given up trying to sleep and watching series one of Big Bang Theory currently!!

Went to La Senza in a desperate attempt to get a bra that actually fits. There was no one there qualified to do a fitting, so was handed a pile of them and told to see which was more comfortable Ah well. Its a nursing and maternity bra, so it will do for now. Seems very odd their maternity bras only go up to an E cup though!!! At least I won't have to wear my tankini top to the consultant tomorrow though

maman2tom · 19/10/2009 04:53

Erica i can sympathise with being up early as I'm up at the crack of dawn again. ALthough today i was really tired but dp (well not very darling aat the moment) set the alarm and set it dor 5am and not 7am!! By the time I figured it out i'd already woken ds for school, no chance him going back to bed so i'm now stuck entertaining a ired 3 year old for 2 hours First job today buy myself an alarm clock

I'm getting seriously fed up now with the whole is "today the day" thing. Even my sub-conscious (sp) brain has had enough, I woke in the night and couldn't for the life of me remember if I was pregnant or still ttc. I literally had to touch my bump to work it out and even then still wasn't sure (despite my bump being huge)

Have therefore decided to replace "giving birth" obsession with a "christmas" obsession. This will be my first when Im not gong back to my mum and dads in the UK so trying got to find a mailorder company that will send me cristmas in a box. M+S have loads of stuff but don't deliver food!!!

claired21 · 19/10/2009 07:13

Another Monday rolls around...

Claired21 dd 29Nov; 34+1

It's been very quiet on this thread over the weekend, who's missing?! Surely there will be another newborn soon?!

southernbelle77 · 19/10/2009 07:20

Morning all. Have read all posts and was planning on replying to lots of individual ones, but seems my fried brain has since forgotten who said what etc etc!

I've decided that since I really don't think I can manage getting to Mothercare today (really wanted to go and get a few bits, but it's too far to drive and then walk) I'm going to go on a cleaning spree and clean down all the woodwork in the house. The doors have fingerprints all over them from dd and when I was childminding (given I haven't been working for nearly 2 months you'd think I would have done it already ) and they look hideous. So, thats my task for the day.

Can I just ask too, does anyone else have an obsession with anything? I have a REAL obsession with vacumming. It's really stupid as it hurts so so so much to do it, but it's like a craving that I have to indulge in. I've not had any food cravings as such, but I get this feeling to vacuum and I just have to do it. I can't really explain it but dh now just laughs (after desperately trying to get me to stop doing it) as its like I can't control myself. The bloody carpets don't even need vacuuming 90% of the time I do it as I am doing it so often! God I'm so weird
