Oh pavlov and fruit - I have been having exactly the same sort of burning/hot/stingy feeling in the top right of my bump! What on earth is it?

Thinking of you tabby. Hope you get through the day ok.

BBL loving the image of you rocking DS to sleep to the strains of Wham/Paul McC! I think I will be indulging in just that sort of cheesiness after DD is born. Finally I will have the perfect (hormonal) excuse for listening to those soppy songs. I love em!

Am so relieved as have a proper sedentary day at work today - marking writing tasks in prep for my tutorials on Monday. Makes a change from the exhausting teaching days I've been doing covering others' classes lately. I was so knackered yesterday I trekked home (s.l.o.w.l.y...I am walking about half a mile mile an hour these days) and collapsed straight into bed comatose for a nap.

Trikken · 16/10/2009 09:24

morning all,

Thinking of you today, Tabby

woke up every hour last night, thinking for some reason that i was going to go into labour. I was uncomfortable but not in pain so dont know why I kept thinking that I would. woke up when dh left at six too. am feeling really coldy today, so hope i dont go into labour with this cold, can imagine it would make the whole thing that little bit more harder.

southernbelle77 · 16/10/2009 09:54

Thinking of you Tabby. I really hope that you all manage to get through the day ok ((((hugs)))

Sorry for those of you that had bad nights and struggling to sleep. I woke up at 4am with the most incredible pain in my back/side. I really didn't know what was going on but got quite scared that the baby was stuck somewhere and as I couldn't feel it move so my mind was all over the place! I just had to try rubbing and rubbing my back and bump to try and get rid of the pain and to get the baby to move! Eventually all was fine so think I must have just been sleeping in a funny position etc but it did scare me!!

DD asked this morning, completely randomly, if the baby was coming today! Can't imagine it happening but well, if it does then ok!!

southernbelle77 · 16/10/2009 09:55

That would be my back and side rather than my backside

Ninjacat · 16/10/2009 09:57

Tigger today will be hard but it will pass. I'm sure you are aware funerals are the beggining of the grieving process. There will be some very low times for your dh and his family to come and there will be lots of fear about them or other people forgetting your DBIL. Things will become less raw for them with time but it is not a quick process. Make some space for yourself, take time to remember him in your own way and remember it's ok for people to fall apart after such an event and is part of the healing, you don't have to hold everyone together. Will be sending you lots of warm, protective, comforting vibes today x

Pav does the cd help with the sleep at all?

Tamlin I'm sorry you may not have the birth you wanted. It sounds like you are finding the positives though. Can you find a way of letting go of what you had hoped for and embracing the entrance of your baby to the world - however that might happen?

OP posts:
scarlotti · 16/10/2009 10:43

Tabby my thoughts are with you today.

Tamlin sorry this hasn't turned out to be the birth that you were hoping for. Hopefully as some of the others have said it's a case of coming to terms with what will now happen.

Positives - as you say, no chance of the nasty part of last time reoccurring. You will now know what day it will happen which will help with the prep for your DC etc. Being in hospital after will enable to you get some well deserved rest after the birth without the mummy guilt of feeling that you should be up and about.

If I think of any more I'll let you know!

Doing ok here. Get the same sore spot on the top of my bump too - am presuming it's just constant kicking from inside has bruised me.
Dh also out for drinks tonight with a promise of not being late or drunk, will see how that pans out!

Grey day here so think it's going to be a lazy day. DS is fixated with watching WALL:E on what seems like continuous loop! Normally I'd rouse him up and we'd go somewhere but it's actually quite nice having him happily occupied so I can crawl around the house at a snails pace getting things sorted.

Am a bad mother!

Fruitpastels · 16/10/2009 11:10

Anyone else feeling loads of pressure in their lady region and bottom? I've had this feeling since last night and have some nausea as well. This is my second pregnancy and aware that babies head doesn't engage until you are in labour. I'm hoping this a good sign that baby will be here soon

ErikaMaye · 16/10/2009 11:15

Pavlov well at least its not just me Maybe its things expanding..? I of course have no idea, and am typing the first possibility that has come to mind!!

Fruit plenty of time to still be early Do you know what cup size Primark go up to? I?d ordered a cheap one in the M&S sale that Pavlov posted about, but they took so long to process my order that all the stock was gone!!

Helips for you! DP did this a while ago, and it really upset me ? do you think theres a possibility he?s doing the same thing? DP was kinda hit by the ?Oh Christ, I have to be a dad now. I can?t go out and do X, Y and Z whenever I fancy it?? and so got it all out of his system. Doesn?t make it okay of course, and I hope your DH has a blinding headache for at least today!! hugs Tabby will be thinking of you today. I hope it goes as best as it can.

Tamlin how very annoying? I wonder why the MW recommended it then??

Becky aww that?s so cute

Scarlotti can I come round and join your DS? I love that film

Am feeling a little smug here? Our dog barks. A lot. Does it for attention, I reckon, because there is never anything there, and he comes up for a stroke afterwards. Have been saying to my parents for ages that he barks all bloody day and its annoying, and they haven?t believed me. Well, Mum is still off work, and because he?s now used to her being here, he?s back to his usual behaviour, and she?s going ape about it ? ?Why is he barking so much?? ?What is he barking at?? ?There must be something out there?? ? and making all these suggestions about how to shut him up. I?m sat on the PC predicting when he?ll do it, and what he?ll do afterwards, and I?m right ? I?m the one home with him five days a week while everyone else is out. So am saying very quietly in my head, ?Told you so??

DP?s mum sent him a cheque for the cot, yey!! So that means all that?s left on my list is bottle teats, storage boxes and nursing bras, and we?re sorted. Fantastic.

Still craving cake...

Koumak · 16/10/2009 11:42

I can?t believe how fast this thread is moving. Especially at night! Unfortunately not the club I wanted to be a member of but what can one do!

tabby thinking of you today!

Fruit I think that could be a sign of labour! Very !

Dh ?allowed? to go out for drinks on Saturday night. But his considerate friends suggested a walking distance from our house should I go to labour! Makes me wonder what state they all think they going to be ending up in if they are actually thinking ahead! Think will reserve sofa for him!

I had my 38 week mw appointment yesterday and was discharged! As either I am going to go to the birthing unit as in labour or to the foetal assessment at 41 weeks to book the induction. No appointments in between!

She also told me that if I go over 41 weeks I cant give birth in the midwife birthing unit but have to go to labour ward which means I wont be able to use the pool as there isn?t any there! And if I am induced and on the drip I will have to be monitored and apparently they don?t have mobile monitors so I will have to strapped in on the bed. God that is a nightmare as that?s what make me physically sick last time. I was put on monitors for a while and I really couldn?t stand being made lie down so I took them off as soon as the mw left the room! She was really pissed off with me but I didn?t care!

Now I really don?t want to be induced again. She better come out soon I don?t care that we are not ready anymore she is old and certainly big enough so better be coming out soon!

Thanks for reminding me about the bf bras. Must add that to my shopping list.

Dh woke up feeling awful this morning. I think he got my cold but he also complained about muscle aches which I haven?t had yet?.except all the pregnancy related ones obviously so he is coming down with what looks like flu! Strange ds is still ok he?s started reception 5 weeks ago so I wander when he is going to get ill as it is bound to happen soon right?

Did anybody read the article in today?s metro that pregnant women should really get the vaccine ASAP and that 6 pregnant women died so far?

I am such a pig. So far I have had egg and bacon muffin (Costa) and white chocolate and strawberry muffin (Tesco) and 2 cups of decaff earl grey and decaff cappuccino and milk & nut chocolate! I am about to eat a banana and already know what I am having for lunch! I have no self control left!

And ??? squeeze - squeeze - release!

Ninjacat · 16/10/2009 11:42

DP took my MA and Sure Start forms to local job centre today to be told they did not know what to do with them!
They said they would put them in internal post but not sure who to send them too!!
Why do I feel like that is the last I will ever see of them?

OP posts:
ErikaMaye · 16/10/2009 11:47

Koumak really shocked they've discharged you! Have got my next MW appointment on the 3rd, but between then am seeing the consultant and a different MW as mines away. Do they normally discharge you this close to the date?? Am also very very VERY jealous of your menu Have been dying for a McDonalds breakfast today How gross is that?!

I really don't know what to make of the vaccine whilst pregnant to be honest... I'm supposed to have had the cervical cancer one too, but put off having that. Surely if we're told we should limit so many other things, especially medicines, injecting a virus into your system isn't the best of plans whilst pregnant?? I really don't know...

skorpion · 16/10/2009 11:48

Good morning ladies. i'm terribly sorry but haven't got time to read ant posts at the moment. Just wanted to mention that - if you haven't got them yet - tommee tippee products are half price at boots at the mo.

Wishing everybody a lovely day, xx

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 16/10/2009 12:16

Erica some of my stuff from M&S was sold out too, and also, the 10 pairs of socks are estimated to arrive - 5th December! They might not fit by then .

tabby thinking of you today

I had loads of other posts I was going to respond to, and I have forgotten everything .

Anyone else have an apple shaped bump? . It turned into an apple overnight. I looked down and there is a big dip where my belly button is. For a good hour it also looked like my baby has his butt sticking out one side, solid as a rock!!! But defintely have an apple bump now !

beepbeep · 16/10/2009 12:18

Hi all

Fruit -I've been getting the same pressure - almost like you want to go to the toilet but don't need to (if you get what I mean - bit like labour pushng bit), also been getting rally tight braxton hicks this morning, ude my bump as well at top - I had something like this with DS afew weeks b4 I had him - almost like a false labour, going to make some cookies and then go for a bath to calm it all down. The pain hasn't gone into my back at all so am pretty sure this isn't it!

Erika - think i'm with you on the vacine thing, if it had been around longer and so more testing I think I would feel happier, but think i'll be staying well away from it.

Koumak - I saw MW for 34wk this week and she's discharged me from their team, as I go to birthing centre for 36, then GP at 38, she just said next time they'd see me would be 41wks if I get that far or visitng at home after the birth - bit scary and brought it all home a bit!

Skorpion - thanks for that, need some more teats and may get couple more bottles, tho have loads still from DD. DS refused Tmmee Tippee bottles and so used Mam with him, bloomin males, so fussy!

Trikken · 16/10/2009 12:19

am so excited on ds's behalf, just picked him up from playgroup and he's been invited to his first birthday party! just hoping the baby doesnt turn up on party day as the party is the day after babys due-date. but yay! thinking even if she does hopefully one of the nana's could take him.

beepbeep · 16/10/2009 12:19

Tabby - sorry, forgot to say, hope today goes as well as it can for you.

Trikken · 16/10/2009 12:25

fruit and beepbeep i've been getting the pressure too, think thats part of the reason i thought i might go into labour last night.

ErikaMaye · 16/10/2009 12:26

Trikken awww that's so sweet, and such good news!!

Pavlov I dunno if its apple shaped, but there is a soft area now between my belly button and bikini line. I hope the bugger hasn't moved. He was head down yesterday! Oh, and I misread your post at first - I thought it said "apple shaped bum" Was going to reply that regardless of shape mine is definately huge at the moment

longwayaway · 16/10/2009 13:31

Tamlin bummer that the acupuncturist wouldn't help... you'd think they'd at least give it a go? What could it hurt? Hope you can keep focusing on the positive as far as the planned CS is concerned.

Tabby very sorry to hear that there is still a lack of resolution surrounding BIL's death. I hope the funeral offers some relief.

skorpion thanks for the Boots tip!

Pav I have an apple-shaped bump most of the time, with the left side bulging out when the LO decides she needs to stretch. MW said that her bum is sticking out my right side and she's head down, so not sure what body parts that leaves to cause a big bulge on the left side. Feet, I guess?

ursigurke · 16/10/2009 13:40

tabby, thinking of you and your family on that sad day.
koumak, can you see your GP at some point? As I am in shared care I had almost more appointments with the GP than with the midwife. It's very annoying that the birth centre doesn't accept you anymore after 41 weeks. In my case it is 37 to 42.
I will have my first (and maybe only) appointment there on monday and at the moment I hope they would as well accept me for birth without having seen me before as I am getting quite a few rather painful BHs and other pains at the moment. I don't think I am already going into labour but it just reminded me that it could actually happen any time now. I've read that it depends on the man as well if you are having an early or late birth and just today I've asked my fil about my husband's birth... apparently he was two weeks early... I guess I should finally get ready.
won't probably be here over the weekend so I hope you will all have a nice one

hobnob57 · 16/10/2009 13:42

tigger so sorry today is going to be really hard on you. I hope that it's the beginning of things recovering though. Slowly but surely.

tamlin sorry to hear about the acupuncture. I know, hoever, that babies can still turn right up to the last minute. A colleague at work had a breech baby in the final weeks and he turned as she was lying on the sofa - the movement lierally threw her onto the floor !

Pav & co - I joined the BH club yesterday - every 10 minutes until I went to sleep eventually. All has calmed down today, but baby is a little more active than usual. I got that fiery pain at the top of my bump to one side a few times - I think it just coincided with a big growth spurt and/or change in position and was the muscles being stretched to the limit - again.

koumak I share your fear of induction (although I'll say to 1st timers that not everyone feels this way ). Did you know that you don't have to be induced? You can do a couple of things:

  • ask your MW for membrane sweeps at 40 weeks and 41 weeks (as a 2nd timer you're not meant to see the MW at 40 weeks, but you're the boss!)
  • refuse induction and say that you'd prefer to wait (if you can stomach it by that stage!). They will then ask you to come on for twice-weekly scans to check the placental blood flow and measure the amniotic fluid. If all is ok, you should go into labour naturally at some point (usually no later than 43 weeks). If all isn't ok then you run the risk of being whisked in for a caesarian to prevent a stillbirth.

swine flu jab I'm really undecided about this one. I suspect that they won't be organised to offer it to me in time, but if they do I was initially reluctant. However, a 17 year old pregnant girl with no health complications died in Scotland yesterday so they are really urging us to have it. It now seems a silly risk not to have it IYSWIM. And to be able to protect wee one from it after birth if BF has got to be a good thing. Still, I'll see when the time comes.

sleeplessinthecity · 16/10/2009 14:00

Tabby thinking of you today, and hope the family's grieving process progresses well, in the tough circumstances.

pavlov have a tender bit on my left side of belly, just past Baby's bottom, it really aches when pressed,,usually when I carry DD. I was also head butted there by DD last weekend. And ditto to cervix pains when the head screws down..ouch.

I'm all for sweeps..I had one and was in labour the next day... I just have to find the french for Membrane sweeps...can anyone help????

NO BH here...i feel left out!

sleeplessinthecity · 16/10/2009 14:03

PS I went Ikea!!! and bought stuff for DD and only bibs for the baby....meant to get baby stuff.

hobnob57 · 16/10/2009 14:13

Sorry I meant tabby

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 16/10/2009 14:18

The pain above my bump really does bloody hurt, I wonder what it is with so many of us experiencing it? It hurts to touch and feels a bit tender/swollen. I might call gp just so I know what on earth it is!
