Ses - Mums - you've gotta love 'em, dontcha?! I think I'm going to have to explain to my Mum next time I see her, that while she doesn't think I should go back to work, it's what we (my family) need and what I'm going to do... continually feeling that she is trying to get me to do things either as she did them, or how she wishes she had done them - is contributing to my feelings of failure...

Cant - wow, sounds great. Is lovely when good things happen.

Ses - glad it sounds like I'm getting there with DD, 'cos it really doesn't feel like it. She is still waking 2x in night between 7.30pm and 5.30am - she is still following 25th centile and now weighs 16lbs (at 7.5 months), but she's really slow on weaning, although enjoying finger foods - she won't eat anything except very very pureed fruit and veg - just not interested in thicker purees with protein in them. Ended up in tears talking to HV this morning (who was very nice), but she suggested I should not feed her when she wakes at 2.30/3am and then she might eat brekkie better. I'm just not sure what to do.... Since she has been teething (really teething badly) last couple of weeks, I have resorted to feeding to sleep again - today she fed to sleep for both naps too

Ah well, this is just a phase... this too shall pass

Kayzr · 03/11/2009 06:59

Morning,

CANT, why does my freecycle only have shit on it???

I am having a rubbish week at work. Nothing seems to be working, the roof is leaking and I'm having to work without breaks as there is no one to cover them. I can't wait to be off next week.

Plus I'm exhausted. Just feel really tired all the time despite DS2 now sleeping all night. I'm not sure if it is the early starts.

Hope everyone is ok.

Morning! Aww KAYZ hope work improves for you soon - it really doesn't sound like a great place to work . If you're not getting breaks that's not great either (err, illegal actually ). Is there someone there who could make a fuss? (union rep?)
SES, I know what you mean about the sleeping mats at nursery . I was really shocked at first, but they all seem to do it and I suppose as many LOs have naps up to age 3 cots/beds wouldn't be practical. In fact I haven't met a nursery yet that doesn;t do it like this, although they stay in cots till 12-18mths depending on the child at our current nursery. On the BLW front you may find that if you get a good key worker they'll be happy to give it a go and try to fit in with your requirements. I think with older babies it can be harder (I remember insisting that dd1 (yes, PFB) had a snack at 4ish a la Gina but the others babies used to get really unsettled as they weren't getting any so we decided to drop it. I still cringe when I remember how particular I was with dd1 . Remember with dd2 being asked if it was ok if they mushed up meat pie and chips for her and not batting a eyelid
STAR, think it's perfectly reasonable to go with the flow with night feeds when they are teething or poorly, even gf says that (so it must be ok ). Obviously if it becomes a habit that's different but I personally abandon all routine when need be, and hopefully your hv understands that too!
Great freecycing CANT! Have never got stuff from there myself (though we gave away a dryer) must have a look as we desperately need a new table and chairs.
Hope dd2 is ok TINKS!
Feeling bleughhh here today, cold gone onto my chest. Was very brave yesterday at dentists; didn't need bridge after all, he just dabbed something on the broken bit to seal up. I was a real wreck by the time I got in (they were running very late) and could hardly open my mouth . Have the cosmetic place tomorrow to talk about veneers/invisible brace - all vanity but will see what they say and what it would cost!
Hope everyone is well - the house business is really making us all ill and stressed. Hopefully we'll know what's happening either way by the end of today!

essenceofSES · 03/11/2009 09:55

Morning!

Kay - absolutely illegal for you not to have at least a 20min break for every 6hrs you work. Do you havee a staff rep or staff forum that can help take this up with management?

Diege - I think it just hit me yesterday that a) DS will be going to nursery and b) I've not set foot in a nursery since I went myself! I'll try and do some research to find another one to visit but I don't really think there was much wrong with the one I saw.

Off to Jo Jingles this morning!

Kayzr · 03/11/2009 10:01

We have to have 15 minutes every 4 hours. But they couldn't care less really. No union rep as I'm not in the union so they won't do anything.

OP posts:
Diege · 03/11/2009 10:07

Kayz, the union will support you even if you're not in it, you don't need to be a member. Def have a word with rep Have you thought about joining though?
SES, it is tough thinking about nursery. The leading up part is def worse that when they start I think. Is it Jan when O is starting Enjoy Jo Jingles! I must ask mine about when we should bring J in for a visit etc, though quite relaxed as he's guaranteed a place as dd3 already there. Enjoy Jo!
On a funny note dd2 asked yesterday if there woukd be any more babies in our family. I said probably not as mummy's tummy is tired now. To which she replied 'Come on mummy, you've got it in you!'. Bless her, I veer from wanting another to thinking my god what have I done having 4 '

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 03/11/2009 10:13

morning

dd1 seems fine thanks ladies no more spots and seems herslef so glad she is back @ school

Kayzr · 03/11/2009 10:13

Can't afford to join them. We struggle as it is without having the union taking money from my wages. I don't think we even have a rep.

OP posts:
Diege · 03/11/2009 10:19

I know what you mean kAYZ, the monthly payments aren't great, though the union would help even if you're not a member. They also (usually) have minimal payments if you're on a lowish wage. There should be a rep/someone with knowledge in your workplace (even asking the boss may shake him/her up!). Don't want to go on, but I think it's really important that someone 'offical' is aware of the situation as they are breaking the law.
That's good news TINKS! Bet you're relieved

cantmummyhaveabreak · 03/11/2009 10:25

Morning

Tink- Most likely was heat lumps, as i said yesterday, by the sound of it.

DD2 had a bloody awful nights sleep- i managed 3.5hrs!! only fed her 3 times as was trying to be strong, but by the 3rd feed at 5.30am she finally was so tired she went off to sleep.

Was hoping to get a nap this morning while DD1 is at nursery but just can't- i'm soaked to the bone still too from nursery run, but dont see much point in changing to get soaked again in an hour and make yet more washing!! If the rain stops i'll change!! i'm tired- just want to sleep!!

essenceofSES · 03/11/2009 10:38

Can't - sorry for your bad night and soaking wet nursery run

Kay - most of our staff aren't in the union but every branch still has it's own staff rep (not union related). I think it's worth persuing.

Diege - I'm looking to go back to work mid Feb. Looks likely it'll be my birthday actually! Will need to start him settling in from Jan. I've just phoned another nursery and ordered their prospectus. Will maybe go and visit them next week.
Love that conversation with DD2 you had

I just popped to the kitchen to get a drink and when I came back I couldn't see O! He's rolling and shuffling all round the room now and he'd moved so his head was under the coffee table. There's a little red mark where he'd obviously lifted his head up and banged it but he hadn't cried and it's fading so nothing to worry about. In a way I'm quite pleased he's learning about his environment without a huge accident/fuss! Better go as he's chewing the curtain now and need to go to JJ!!

Catch you all later

Kayzr · 03/11/2009 10:39

Everyone at work knows it happens so the rep will know already that it's going on.

OP posts:
Diege · 03/11/2009 12:18

Sounds like your rep may well need reminding of her/his duties KAYZ, that's really bad
CANY, your night sounds dire Hope you manage a little rest today or if not then get an early one tonight!
More news on house front. Our buyers want 'proof' that there won't be a breach of the canal (ie, leak) and they're wanting ploans from when the house was built there. We've offered to pay for a structural engineer to get a survey done on the bank (dh is one but they won't take his word for it that all is fine)but they've not responded yet. Is it just me or would most people have actually voiced any concerns earlier than a week before completion??

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 03/11/2009 12:59

ses - bracken is the same gets everywhere

obviously little people one cheaper have been reading both reviews and cant decide.

whizz one seems to fall apart

fisherprice one lift doeasnt work

Starshinetiger · 03/11/2009 16:44

Diege - really hope your buyers sort themselves out today. They sound a nightmare and I don't know how anyone could put someone else through all this on your behalf.

Kayz - second Diege, you really should raise this as what they are doing is illegal and they can't punish you for saying so either. It is important for health and safety reasons that you get your break.

Can't - sorry about getting soaked, hope the rain cleared up for you - it rained for both ends of nursery run here today, but luckily DH is on a late, so he did both and DD and I stayed indoors.

Gruff - sorry, crossed posts last night.

Can't remember anything else, sorry!

Tonight I have to work out our finances to see if I really need to go back to work in January, or if I could take full year off (bit late to think that, as I've just been offered a job to go back to starting Jan, but hey ho...)

Starshinetiger · 03/11/2009 16:46

Oh, Tink - remember lots of people recommending Whizz Around Garage when DS was turning 1, but don't know about it falling apart - sounds dodgy and maybe fisherprice would be better if it at least stays together!

Kayzr · 03/11/2009 17:10

Hi.

No break again today. Didn't mind too much as I had loads to do. We don't have any rep of any description. I had a look on the board and the rep listed left over 2 years ago. Management are looking into training someone on the deli to cover breaks but only if they can spare someone.

OP posts:
Moosy · 04/11/2009 08:43

Morning all,

Diege, your buyers sound a nightmare! I hope they sort themselves out today.

Ses, sorry I have no advice for you having never even stepped foot inside a nursery!

Kayz, you know you're well within your right just to take a break without having cover but I guess you don't want to rock the boat too much. Hope they get something sorted soon though, how many do you work for without a break?

Can't, hope you got a better night last night and don't sit around it wet clothes again!

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today, I had a tummy bug on monday/yesterday so with being sick a few times I effectively haven't eaten/drunk anything since sunday lunch time. Have just had a small breakfast and it's stayed down and I had 10 hours sleep last night! so hopefully I'm better now, just need to rehydrate! I've lost 1.5" off my waist and 5lbs which I'm not best pleased at - I've worked really hard at putting weight on and have lost a huge chunk in only 2 days

Diege · 04/11/2009 09:48

Morning Hi MOOS, good to hear from you! Sorry for the bug, that's really tough but hopefully you've turned a corner and you'll get the weight back on. Could you have a really big pig out, or would that not work with your metabolism? and
Another very stress filled evening worrying about the house. I've had a migraine since Sunday that is (thankfully) responding to drugs but obviously need to address the underlying stress. We've even started looking at those websites that will buy your house when the chain breaks which shows how desperate we are . No info yesterday from our solicitors or EA, so hoping we'll hear something today. The other option would be to get a full mortage and rent our current house out, but that all depends on the bank and getting tenants! Have dentists at 12noon and hopefully J will be asleep for that . I'm getting there early so I can push him around in the pram before I have to go in, but it's only a consultation so if he cries not too bad I'd imagine? (ie, compared to having a sharp implement in my mouth!).
Sorry for the whinge, just really stressed at the moment . Hope everyone else is ok!

Moosy · 04/11/2009 10:05

I think I'll have to be careful with my tummy for a couple of days before I start feasting! I'm hoping most of the loss is just dehydration and I'll put it back on by drinking lots

Good luck with your buyers today, having never sold a house and only bought off my parents I've never had to do what you're doing and I'm not looking forward to it!

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 04/11/2009 13:02

morning

moosy - hopefully you are better now

diege - sorry for stress with house :*(

have been 2 jolly babies and mothercare
received vouchers from child trust fund - bought bracken - playskool busy gears for bday, gloworm for xmas, parrot maraca and shaker for now

essenceofSES · 04/11/2009 14:28

Hello all!

tink - sounds like you've had a great morning!

Diege - hope the dentist was ok.

Moosy - sounds like a rotten bug although I know there's lots of it around. I'm sure you'll soon put the weight back on.

For all my usual moaning, DH is being great at the moment Yesterday he came home and told me he's ordered O a full Spurs kit with his name on the back of the shirt. I'm the Spurs fan, DH doesn't even like football!
Then he looked after O for me for 2.5hrs last night whilst I was out at a church meeting (ok he was asleep the whole time, but still...!). DH has also arranged to work from home next Thurs as I have to go to a meeting all day for the pharmacy committee I sit on.
On top of that, whilst I was out my BF from York phoned as her 4yo DD (who some of you met in York) was upset and had been crying for 45 mins because she'd been learning about baby Jesus and had found out that he died. He managed to talk to her and explain and calm her down!
I am v v impressed with him!!

Moosy · 04/11/2009 14:50

Wow Ses, he's Superman!

Just been to see MW, all's well, and she's 2/5 engaged already! All of a sudden it's feeling a bit close [eek].

Diege · 04/11/2009 16:16

ooh MOOS that sounds good. My dd3 was similar in terms of engagement at this stage, and was def the easiest of the 3 births
SES dh sounds great, but less of the 'he looked after O for me' (just my thing - I have a go at my friends when they say their dh's are 'babysitting') And how cute does your friends dd sound!
TINK that does sound a productive morning shopping wise
Dentists was fine, though I can see why consultation was free as he didn't even look in my mouth. It;s £150 next time for them to do my 'records', so will need to have a think
Better go as ds has been sick..still no news from the buyers

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 04/11/2009 17:46

moosy - sounds good

diege - hi sorry that u havent heard from buyers
