Hello! Great to hear from you IDOB, it certainly does sound like you have a dream baby there . I bet you feel so much better than when you were pregnant!
Hi GYO! Yes, might be an idea to move over to postnatal when MOOS has popped, not that that will stop ttc-ing and waiting to ttc..just means we're an established group!
Hi STAR, good to hear from you too. Frustrating about work and the internet!
Getting stressed about the new house. Still waiting to hear back from soliciters about completion date that is supposed to be next Friday, our buyers really arsing about now, asking the most bizarre questions about the canal bank we live on . Only we need to know obviously while they have time to pontificate (they're buying to rent out so don't have to move, whereas we only have to pack/move etc etc. Arghhhh!!!!!

GHOSTLYPRessenceofSES · 29/10/2009 17:50

IDOB - great to hear from you and sounds like Caitlin read the text book in her couple of extra weeks!

Diege - your buyers sound v frustrating! Completion next Friday, all sounds v close and v exciting!!

GYo - will investigate the BLW threads when I get chance!.

Star - frustrating about your computer. I've only just got my laptop back so can sympathise

tink - does sound like a bug, poor thing

Got O weighed and he's 16lb10. Not as much as I thought but still maintaining his line of between 25th and 50th centile so I'm not bothered, especially since he had the bug at the weekend.

Kayzr · 30/10/2009 07:06

Morning,

Had a horrible day yesterday. I went for a walk with the boys and we had lunch at the train station. On the way home Freddie was walking nicely and holding my hand. As soon as we were almost home(probably about 25 feet from the door) he ran off. He ended up going up the ramp to neighbours front door. He then fell off the ramp and smashed his face on the floor. He has cut all his nose and split his lip quite badly. My poor baby

IDOB, Sounds like everything is going really well for you!!

Hope you are all ok.

morning- not stopping as am going to my mums today with the DC's to get them out of the house. Just thought some of you may want to help here trinity is a regular MNer and purely wanted some shoes for her DD's- but seems everyone is rallying around to help with other things- i have just donated some money toward the xmas fund... and am seeing what i have to pass on for her little one or trinity herself. Would be nice if anyone could help.

AF still not here either

Diege · 30/10/2009 08:59

Morning! Aww poor Freddie KAYZ Hopefully recovered now; must have been a shock for him (and you!). Enjoy the goth weekend; presume it's just you and dh?
Morning TINKS! Had a good shop yesterday, you would be proud: 2 pairs of boots and a top for me and a gorgeous catimini dress and tights for dd3's birthday. Have also reserved barbie muscateers dolls for her at Argos. Oh and got dd2 a skirt top and tights from Boden for her birthday, and ds a cute polo bear jumper from Boden. Shopped out for now, though have my eye on a kate moss dress from topshop Not that I have the opp to wear it!
Older dds going on sleepover to mum and dads today, dad coming over to collect them DD3 playing up at the moment; wish they could take her too . Has got into a habit of waking at 5am and shouting out so that ds wakes, then that's it . Really cross as he would usually sleep 7 till 7, albeit with me giving him a small bottle at 10.30pm.
Hope everyone's ok! Back later x

Kayzr · 30/10/2009 09:03

CANT, I sent some money the other day and when it was her DH's funeral. It is wonderful how we can all gather round in times like this.

Diege, it is quite funny actually. We come from King's Lynn and they are playing Whitby on Saturday in some football cup. So Mum is taking the boys and my brother to that. So we will all be in Whitby. I think they might have a look around the town.

Diege · 30/10/2009 09:05

Hi CANT! Wow isn't mumsnet great, aren't people kind and hopefully Trinity will be more than sorted for shoes

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 30/10/2009 13:46

people are very kind for trinity

deige good shop

i am eyeing up getting dd1 a playmobile advent calender again this year they are great

GHOSTLYPRessenceofSES · 30/10/2009 14:32

Kay - that must have been v scary for you. Bet he's bounced back though!
Have a good day tomorrow.

tink - what do you like about those advent calendars?

Diege - good shopping! How's the packing going?

I've just arranged to go and visit a nursery on Monday morning. If work agree to my suggestions, O will be going 2 full days a week. Does anyone with experience of these things have any tips for what I should look for or questions to ask?

I'm also planning on taking O swimming for the first time tomorrow afternoon. You may remember I have absolutely no confidence in the water and in fact as a child, I used to have recurring nightmares about swimming/drowning. I do not want O to feel the same so feel I have to go. Fortunately my cousin is coming with us.

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 30/10/2009 15:37

hi ses - they open a box each day some boxes are bigger than others each box has a playmobile figure etc - in her calendar last year she got big and small animals in them, trees, vegetables etc. you get to set up a scene has you go you get a cardboard backdrop

good luck with nursery - questions to ask :-

how much supervision is there e.g how many adults to children?
what outdoor activities are provided?
what things to they do in the classroom
what things to they learn, what toys are there
what drink/food is avaliable

good luck with swimming

Diege · 30/10/2009 16:22

Arghhh!!! I am so stressed!!! Our buyers are having another crazy moment - worried about what will happen if a boat crashes into the canal bank and they have to pay to repair it...I mean ffs never in the history of the (220 yr) canal has this happened, perhaps because of the 10 mph speed restriction (oh and the steel cladding to the side of the bank)...Just have a horrible feeling that they're going to pull out Anyway, will just have to go with it whatever happens, though to say I'll be gutted would be an understatement (and not to mention the stuff I've bought, I have bought up ASPACE for goodness sake )
TINK, calender soudns intrigeing, though I wouldn't rate the chances of the plastic bits surviving in our house..
SES, I'd def ask to see the ofsted report (though it only gives a snapshot) and if you have any concerns about anything ask to have a look in the complaints book (which they have to have by law). I'll think of more stuff to ask them when I've calmed down a little!!

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 30/10/2009 17:25

oh no diege - hopefully they wont back down

i have sold moses basket and bumbo today which is great they are in local paper

using money to get dd1 a new bed she is still in cotbed

GHOSTLYPRessenceofSES · 30/10/2009 17:37

Tink - good selling today then!!

Diege - they sound a real nightmare! Can't imagine many people would get to this stage to just break the chain so hopefully in a week you can be rid of the worry as I think you're due to complete then?

I've just realised my Dad's first and middle names are John Edward! Fortunately he is oblivious to XFactor and won't feel any shame

cantmummyhaveabreak · 30/10/2009 18:05

evening- went to mum's... also had a little rumage through the charity shops and found a stunning pair of fat face cords for DD1 for £1.50 aswell as getting the gruffalo book and another book- both dont even look like they've been opened for £1.30 for the both of them. Got some little stocking fillers from pound-stretcher too for the DC's, beakers, little colour by numbers sets, boooks etc.

Diege · 31/10/2009 09:30

Morning! Sounds like a good rummage there CANT . Don't have much luck in charity shops myself though always great for toys etc.
Older dds back after lunch from parents, so making the most of the peace! Hoping that buyers will calm down a bit todayand we can get a completion date, though realistically it'll be next week now I presume before we hear anything.
Hope everyone enjoys halloween (and that it doesn't disrupt the x-factor too much ). Oh and have you heard that the twins have swine 'flu?

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 31/10/2009 10:14

oh no to twins

happy halloween

IDOBisamummy · 31/10/2009 14:23

Hi all,

I've been inspired by all this shopping talk so I'm trying to make my xmas list while DD has a snooze. I'm after some ideas if anyone can help. I'm stuck for the following:
my 10 year old cousin (girl) - I'm not sure what counts as 'cool' at her age anymore. Any thoughts?
my 3 year old cousin (boy) - he doesn't really sit and play with toys like cars or jigsaws, he just plays with his play doh (which he has masses of) or wants to run around outside with his football.
Caitlin - I'm so excited about buying her some little bits and pieces for her first xmas but she has loads of clothes and my DB gave us a bouncer, activity centre, play mats etc and my mum is getting her a play nest. Will just look for some small toys but wondered what your LOs enjoyed at 3-6 months?

Oh yeah, and I'm thinking about getting DD a mobile or light show this week. She seems quite happy gazing at the sofa or book case for hours now but I'd like to get something more interesting for the munchkin. Which would you recommend at this age - I thought about a black and white mobile or a light show like this

IDOBisamummy · 31/10/2009 14:24

It still feels really strange - but really lovely - to write DD in a post!

tinkisthrillerthrillernight · 31/10/2009 15:28

hi

hi idob - 10 year old - barbies or high school musical toys
3 year old - books
catilin - activity stations are great bracken has leapfrog learn and groove one
fisherprice balls,skwish,whoozit.
mobile looks good

any thoughts

brackens pooh has been yellow for the last few days now and she wont eat her meat or veg jars
she seems ok in herself perhaps abit tired!! is still eating porridge, petit filous and fruit puree and drinking her milk

cantmummyhaveabreak · 31/10/2009 19:24

IDOB- i just luuuurve lamaze toys for them 3-12mths age... caitlin would love them- they are fab!! All very colourful and interactive and really good quality. I'm not spending much on DD2 as she's also got so many clothes bought for her and i'm buying the activity centre/station but i'm treating her to a handful of lamaze toys.

3 year old- what about some air drying clay? if he likes playdough he'll love that as he can make things that he can keep forever- DS loves that stuff and makes magnets etc out of it.

10 year old- i'd honesly think anything like nail varnishes and bath smellies would be apreciated- thats the sort of age girls are starting to 'grow-up' now and are into things like that. If she's allowed make-up maybe put her together a make-up bag with nail polish, eyeshadows, brushes, and some smellies in it? I ahve to say i think anything disney would be turned down by choice from a 10 year old.... or is it just 10 year olds in blackpool that are growing-up too fast? Doesn't Diege have an older DD not too much under 10yo? She may be of more help if my idea is no good.

Starshinetiger · 31/10/2009 19:43

Hi All, Happy Halloween! Is the first year that DS (3) is enjoying it, so it makes it great fun. We had neighbours over for playtime and then went to theirs for spooky tea - I made wheat, egg and dairy free choc cakes and decorated with icing sugar using our cookie cutters to make halloween shapes on them.

IDOB - I was thinking before that maybe we could share ideas on this thread about pressies for other children.

10year old - would second the High School Musical idea, although my niece is 8, so maybe tastes would differ. Also think the make up idea is good (I remember as a 10 year old wanting a girls world because they came with make-up - I got a non-brand version, which didn't come with make-up, but my Mum could obviously read me like a book, as I got a little make-up set too). Have seen some little girlie make-up sets in Sainsburys if you have a big one near you.

3 year old - hmm, DS is a bit the same re. being outdoors and playing with playdo, although he does like jigsaws. Might suggest some of those pictures that you colour with a water pen (pen fills with water and only colours on picture not on anything else). My DS also plays lots with cars and his fake fruit and veg when we can't go outside - maybe an idea?

Caitlin - would definitely second whoozit idea, there is a whoozit toy, which comes with a teething ring round it (only about £5), which I would recomment to anyone with a 3/4 month old.

So, anyone with suggestions for 12 year old nephew and 8 year old neice, very much welcomed!

Right, have curry in front of me, Strictly on and X Factor starting soon - I'm off....

IDOBisamummy · 31/10/2009 19:55

Thanks for all the suggestions. The air drying clay sounds great for the 3 year old and I'll go and look up the water pens - I've never seen them before. The 10 year old is a bit more difficult. She was in to HSM last year but it has gone out of favour recently. She would probably love the make up/nail varnish idea but her dad almost had a breakdown when she started using deoderant this year as he wants her to stay a little girl so I may have to sound my aunt out. I might finish up with a game for the wii if I can find something she doesn't have.

I'll look at the lamaaze toys for Caitlin, they sound really good. She already has fisherprice balls and an activity centre from my DB and I bought the whoozit when I was pregnant as it was a favourite with my niece. Her cot will be our big purchase as I think she will outgrow the moses basket by then.

Star - I'll put my thinking cap on for your niece and nephew. Glad your DS is enjoying halloween! We have had a few trick-or-treaters round and they look really cute all dressed up.
