broodzilla How exciting! I really really it goes as quickly and smoothly as it possibly can. I agree that you do not have to be in hospital if nothing is happening (although it might be now eh?), if you would prefer not to be. And if you would prefer to be, and nothing much is happening, stretch your legs, go for a walk around hospital grounds, take a walk down to the hosp shops for magazines etc, keep active, eat a little.

I went in as soon as my water broke to be monitored and check all was fine, once that was established that all was well I went home and stayed at home until the pain became unbearable! But, perhaps they are wanting you in because you are early?

We are all thinking of you. I was going to respond to many of the other posts, but I cannot concentrate now as I am very excited for you, and about to go pack my own bags, just in case!!! To think, there are almost 2 babies here already, and some us will be late, there could be almost 2 months between some of our babies .

EasyEggs · 06/10/2009 10:05

OMG Brood cannot believe you are actually really going to have a baby soon Good luck & I hope it's nice and quick for you, looking forward to hearing the news

Ninja absolutley and quite possibly literally PMSL at your post!!! I agree about the 6wk count now seeming all too real. I am not ready for this.....

Good luck today Kyte I hope they agree with you

tabby on your behalf today, just what you don't need right now. Hopefully things will start looking up from now on

Hope everyone is well this morning. Dp just rang me to say he might be home soon as he has just started feeling sick, headache, blurry vision etc. Doesn't sound like fun so looks like another sickness in the house. I think it's going to drive me insane!

Anyway ds just fallen asleep so must go tidy up whilst dd is also being fairly quiet too. It never lasts long in this house!

Laugs · 06/10/2009 10:14

I'm getting so excited! Is anyone on here having a home birth so they can keep us updated all the way through? How often do contractions normally start after waters break? (mine had to be broken mid-labour, so I don't know)

beepbeep · 06/10/2009 10:27

Laugs - think it varies, my DS would have been born with the sac intact if he hadn't of been so big (couldn't push his 10.1lb and full waters out!!), so with him and DD waters had to be broken and DS was born 7 mins after, can't remember with DD but wasn't much longer. My SIL's water's went at 34wks and she didn't go into labour naturally (was having lots of short 'false labours' then stopping, they monitored her and baby then induced her a week later.

Easy eggs - hope your DP is not feeling too miserable.

Just had doctor on the phone, iron results have come back, they have gone up a small amount since been on the iron tablets but nt much, not really sure what else I can do, going to google it andsee if there's any way of getting my body to absorb it better (already drinking with orange juice, but must admit often I was taking one a day instead of 2).

wook · 06/10/2009 10:45

Broodzilla whoopee! So exciting! Hope all well. Very envious indeed!!

Saw my little Hedy today at the growth scan- she weighs just over 3kg at the mo, not too bad- but how much weight are they supposed to put on a week from now on? If it's 1lb, which I am sure I have read somewhere, then she'll be my second whopper- argh! She was pouting a lot and sucking on her fingers
aaaaaaahhhhhh, can't wait to meet her now.

Also had a debrief on ds's birth- not amazingly clarifying but definitely reassuring- consultant said I had coped well, which is what I definitely felt I hadn't done so that was nice! Recommend a debrief to anyone with questions after their birth.

Need a GTT. The hosp said that my GP would do it, so I phoned surgery and they said they won't do it and to phone midwifery instead now waiting for midwifery to return call. This is irritating and not the first time I have been bounced between the three!!

Beepbeep I got so fed up with the iron tablets that I have binned them and started on Floradix instead at midwife's recommendation. It tastes yummy, is all natural and I already feel considerably better- maybe that is an option for you? I got it from a health food shop but I think they may sell it in Boots too?

Two babies here (well, almost) already!! Wow!

wook · 06/10/2009 10:53

Phew, apparently average weight gain for baby in last four weeks is about 2lb. So if she's 6.65lb now then she might be 8.65lb at term. I reckon that extra 1 and a half lb might make a lot of difference when it comes to pushing

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/10/2009 10:54

laugs contractions can start at any time after waters break, sometimes they don't come at all. The hospital will not allow broodilla to go for more than 24 hours after her waters break. If she does not go into full labour naturally they should induce her, as once water break, it is 'open' and there is a risk of infection if it is left too long.

I had painless contractions, i guess they were braxton hicks, but they came at specific times and lasted a specific time, from the moment my waters broke, until about 6 hours later, then they started to hurt .

beepbeep have you tried kedgeree, drunk with a glass of iron fortified orange juice, or if you can stomach it, grapefruit juice, which is even higher in vit c (in case you don't know, kedgeree is a curried rice dish, with vegetables, can be spicey or mild, served with mackerel/smoked haddock, boiled eggs, a dollop of mango chutney and usually plain yoghurt, but I would suggest no yoghurt, as diary slows the absorption of iron). I try to eat this twice a week because it is lovely, it keeps really well if you cannot eat very much, in fact tastes better re-heated the next day

Koumak · 06/10/2009 11:01

I know I know it?s Tuesday but adding myself anyway. I never seem to be able to log in on Mondays.

We cannot have more than 3 pages a day ladies I can?t keep up!

Ninja could I possibly have a copy of the cd too? Or maybe I could get one from Raggie as you are in north London like me? I would love anything that sends me off to sleep.

I AM NOT NESTING!!!! No urge to clean, shop, nothing. Although keep telling dh that we probably should! Noooo. I don?t want to be overdue again!

I had no sleep last night. I was so restless and in pain all over and then at 1.42am a truck started loading something in the street, seemed very suspicious at that time of night but I couldn?t be asked to get up to investigate. I am at work and is it going slowly! 19 working days left!

Lemontop congratulations on Isaac doing so well.

Welcome Sassmonkey and Comma2 Broodzilla I hope all is well and you have your little bundle in your arms very very soon!

raggie · 06/10/2009 11:22

Wow, broodzilla, how exciting. Thinking of you and can't wait to hear news!

2 already! It's a timely reminder to us all I suppose...MUST get hospital bag sorted out...even if I don't know which hospital I'll be having mine in!

Does that answer your question skorpion? DH has 'moved' to Oxford but staying with his parents and painting in the house when has a spare moment. Once we've ordered the futon to go in the spare room he'll be able to start living there. I, meanwhile, am stranded here in London, whiling away the last weeks of school before mat leave starts and wishing I was there. I have a booking in appt at the GP not this weekend but the one after (eek! ages away! I'll be 34 weeks!) and then I suppose they'll refer me to the hosp/Spires unit. It's all seeming like not enough time to sort things out tbh, particularly considering the fact that I have to go to Scotland for my mum's bday this weekend so another weekend lost unable to prepare (i.e. buy stuff for hospital bag/dd when she arrives) Aargh!

Suppose better get back to work but I'll be checking back for news of the broodzilla arrival as I'm not teaching today (thank god!)

Hope everyone else is well - who will be next?!!!

raggie · 06/10/2009 11:23

Oh koumak I ordered a CD from Amazon in the end (not to sound ungrateful for all the offers erika, katster and everyone else) but I thought, what with the post...

I'd be happy to let you copy mine - where about in N London are you ?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/10/2009 11:27

i feel v annoyed. DH is sat here playing his computer game.

I am sat here mumsetting, BUT, he is out of work, meant to be looking for a job, while I am on AL. So I am being paid to sit here doing nothing, he is not. He has applied for one job, but imo that is not enough.

He just does not get it. He does not realise that we will run out of money soon. How on earth can I make him see that we physically will have no money to survive in 4 months? .

If I say something, he will chuck the mouse, stomp around, I cannot bear that again [grr] sorry for ran, but its really fucking annoying me. There is so much to do. He seems to be like 'you are sitting there doing nothing so I shall too'

Laugs · 06/10/2009 11:38

Hmm... you could always do some very important pregnancy thing, like massage your perineum? That'll send him away

It is hard looking for work though. Every time I've had to do it I've found it really depressing - hard to keep motivation up etc. Is he normally good? Maybe he's having an off day.

I am sitting here doing nothing too. I've been waiting for a work email since 8, which I need before I can interview someone. I must have refreshed my page about once a minute, but it's still not coming. So frustrating. I have to pick up DD in 45 minutes and have just wasted the whole morning waiting. (I really could have done other stuff but haven't the energy today)

Ninjacat · 06/10/2009 11:46

Koumak Of course you can have a copy. Did you get my e-mail address the other day? if so e-mail me your address and I'll send it over. If not let me know and one of us can post and report

Pav I've just put your CD in the envelope so will be in its way to you today. Don't worry about cost it's a stationary perk - just pass the favour on

Easyeggs how are things going? A bit more relaxed I hope?

Ninjacat · 06/10/2009 11:53

Pav have you suggested he stay home with a screaming baby and dd and that you will go back to work? That might scare him into doing something. From what I know of men though the more you push them the less they do. Does he have a trade?

Laugs thought I'd wave and say hello

Laugs · 06/10/2009 11:58

My DH always wanted to be the one at home with the screaming baby. Still does. He thinks it is completely unfair that I get this chance when he doesn't. He stayed at home with DD from 10-18 months and loved it, has been trying to make me get a better-paid job ever since... So be careful what you wish for!

Bloody hell, work has just arrived and I have to leave in 20 mins to collect DD. Deadline is meant to be today...

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/10/2009 12:19

Laugs you are describing my life as a freelancer! It happens all the time!!! Off to collect DS2 myself now...after having eaten a yummy bowl of oven chips and baked beans for lunch.

OP posts:
PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/10/2009 12:21

I fit between getting very upset and resentful and just saying fuck it whatever. No he is normally pretty shit at looking for work. His heart is not in it. he wants a well paid job without working hard to get it, he wants to walk into it and he is not prepared to do any ol shit to get money coming in.

I have told him if he is not working by the time I have been off work for 4 months I will need to return. I have told him that if this happens 1) he will be sole carer and 2) i will really effed off indeed if I sacrifice time with the baby to earn a full time income when I am entitled to be at home on maternity leave and he should be earning a crust.

He has been DDs carer for the last 9 months while I have been at work (well, been sick a lot of it). Its not a new thing, we cannot afford for him to be a full time carer, regardless of whether its useful or not. He needs to get a full time job. End. Of.

I shall go and massage my perenium - i like the idea of that kickstarting him

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 06/10/2009 12:25

I do not want to work full time. And I do not see why I should have to work so he can be a lazy so and so. It is not because he has grand desires to be a house husband. If that was the case, it would be different. He wants the moon on a stick as my mother used to say.

Anyway, I have just applied for a job for him, and that has kicked his ass in gear and he has applied for a job too. Now I am going to paint the hallway

sassmonkey · 06/10/2009 12:45

Thanks for the welcomes and waves everyone! It's nice to be here.

I am at the bottom of the due date list (along with Raggie) - with some relief, as we still have a fair bit to do as well! This is our first so baby preparation is alllllllll new territory.

I presented DH with a three page spreadsheet this morning - all colour coded to indicate what baby things we have and what we need and what are the 'nice to haves' if we can afford them. (I am not an organising fiend, honest, just bored at work). He looked terrified but agreed to meet me this afternoon to tick off some essentials for the hospital bag - especially important given the two early labours/arrivals on this thread!

Pav - I don't know much about your situation, but my DH is also unemployed (made redundant a month ago) with me left wining the bread. My company offers terrible mat leave pay, so our money dries up in four months as well. He's trying to find jobs, but like yours, wants great pay for little effort! It's a stressful place to be, you have my sympathies. Go paint the hell out of that hallway and see if that relieves some stress!

beepbeep · 06/10/2009 13:00

My sympathies to those with out of work DP/DHs, we both work for the publuc sector, so though money is pretty tight our jobs are reasonable secure which is a relief. Not sure how i'd cope with that stress as well at the moment.

Pavlov - thanks for kedgeree suggestion, a recipe i'd not thought of, off to sainsburys in a bit and shall add ingredients to my list!

Laugs · 06/10/2009 13:02

becky It's so annoying isn't it? I am toying with the idea of trying to do the interview this afternoon with DD in the house, even though that's probably a really bad idea. DH has college tonight, so I could write it up once she's in bed without any distractions. I'm just thinking if I leave it until tomorrow I'll have to wait until at least 9.30 to ring the guy, and then have less than 3 hours to get it finished before I pick DD up... either way I'll miss the deadline though . Days like this I really miss having a normal job, where you get paid just for being there, whether you're working or not.

pavlov that's a good idea. You could start applying for jobs for him that aren't necessarily ones he'd want: he'll soon realise it's preferable to find a job for himself. What does he want to do? Is it the same industry he was in before?

Tamlin · 06/10/2009 13:08

Am thinking of you, Broodzilla, and hoping that everything is going very smoothly!

DH is working from home today so he can give me a hand with DS. I am really struggling to keep pace with him at the moment. I know that two years is a really common age gap, so how the hell does everyone do it? I can't pick him up, and by the time I get down to his level, he's off at a run. And then I can't get back up again!

Have been putting it off but just have to pack my hospital bag now...YIKES

Does anyone not feel hungry? I just can't seem to want to eat..odd..

Welcome newbies

I'm with Laugs lets belly dance.......

ErikaMaye · 06/10/2009 13:24

Kyte thanks for your kind words, was so down with it last night. I know I'm a nightmare to deal with when my conditions flare up, but I really do try my best to control it, and sometimes I just can't. It doesn't seem particularly fair, because they wouldn't be mad at me if I had diabetes, for example - which in a lot of ways, is very similar, just a different chemical imblance. Plus they fact that they didn't believe me for years... sighs Pavlov hope your DH gets his arse in gear soon Don't let it get you down chuck.

Broodzilla OHHH you better keep us updated Thinking of you!!

Sleepless I seem to have gone off food as well... Curious.

Well the weather is foul here today. I really wanted to go out, but now don't know if I can be bothered! I just wanted to have a browse around really. Think we have pretty much everything - although I may have to get another several soft toys

Am going to pack my hospital back today, I think gulp I had to unpack it as mum put all my bags except one small and one large one in the attic. So when I went over to DPs this weekend had to empty the hospital bag. Will be sending Daddy up into the attic later I think

Can't believe I'm in the six week countdown now... Its gone so fast!!

raggie · 06/10/2009 13:34

Do you think it'll be me and you, left all by ourselves at the end sassmonkey?

Or maybe we'll 'pop' soon too! (scary thought!)

It's my first too so quite unsure what to expect but must admit broodzilla and lemontop have definitely spurred me on to start on the hospital bag preparations - I have a mothercare window open as I type!
