Hooray, my internet connection has finally sorted itself out and I can get back in touch with everyone again! I've added myself to the list as if I'd done it yesterday, IYSWIM...

Laugs and Lissyglitter Are you planning another meet up at all? I've spent the morning on MN and Facebook since my internet has been fixed (it's been on the blink for over a week) and just saw Lissy's invitation - sorry for very late RSVP! It sounds like you both had a lovely time with your little ones.

And OMG - I'm out of the loop for a week and a bouncing baby arrives and another one is getting ready to pop out! Huge congratulations Lemontop, I'm soooo pleased for you and hope that Isaac continues to thrive. Broodzilla I'm thinking of you and will have to keep checking back all day to see if there's any news!

Well, a lot has gone on in the Wizzy household over the past week. All week I was frantically nesting and just couldn't sleep for wanting to get things done before the baby comes. It was DD's 2nd birthday on Thursday, which was slightly marred by a consultant appointment (more on that later) and then I spent all of Friday making an Upsy Daisy cake for her party on Saturday.

She wasn't going to have a party, but it turned out that loads of family would all be up in the area at the same time this weekend so it seemed easier to invite everyone round here for a knees up than try and get to see everyone separately. It was a really good day and everyone enjoyed themselves although I was shattered afterwards. I had bad BH's on Saturday night though and kept getting woken up, obviously a sign I'd been doing too much.

On Sunday, I noticed I'd had a show during one of my many toilet trips. I rang the hospital who asked me to come in especially since I'd been having BH's the day before. As I am only 35 weeks, they wanted to use a speculum to examine me as they're not allowed to use their hands. Unfortunately due to the tearing, episiotomy and stitching I had after DD, I was in so much pain when they tried to do it, they gave it up and said that whilst it probably was the mucus plug coming away from my description, apparently it's quite common in second and subsequent pregnancies to have a show but it doesn't necessarily mean that labour is imminent. Your body can also produce another mucus plug if the baby isn't ready to come out at that time. They told me to come back if there are any more signs of labour but aside from the usual BH's occasionally, there's nothing to note here.

So, to the consultant appointment. I was pretty miffed, as I'd been offered a CS at a previous appointment by her registrar and came to the decision after a lot of soul-searching that I would have one. At the time, I was told that was fine and I'd be given a date at the next appointment (the one last week). When I got there, the consultant point blank asked me what I thought the benefits would be about having a CS and went on to lecture me about mothers who think they're taking the easy option by having one. I explained that I'd spoken to another two consultants regarding the baby's condition and my low estriol level and they'd advised I consider a CS but she told me that she was the most experienced obstetrician in the north when it comes to this condition and that she has seen increasing numbers of women who are going into labour and dilating with no problem despite low estriol levels.

She gave me until yesterday to think things through and once I'd calmed down at her insinuation that I was too posh to push, I've decided that I would like to try another natural labour, particularly as it looks like I'm going to need an op to 'refashion' my perineum anyway at some point, so if they need to do another episiotomy, so be it provided they use local anaesthetic this time.

Did anyone else have tearing/episiotomy first time round and go on to have normal delivery second time? My consultant is hopeful that I'll come away with my bits intact this time but I'm still really nervous...

I also saw a consultant about having my gall bladder out yesterday and I'm having surgery on 10th December - I'm bizarrely excited, as I'll be able to eat chocolate, red meat, anything I want pretty much again hooray! I'm in denial about the needles and surgery, just thinking about a big juicy steak or a curry at this moment in time!

So, I'm joining the majority of you with watching and waiting for any twinges to turn into something more... I'm actually really excited and can't believe that we're all going to have babies soon!! Let's hope we hear some news from Broodzilla soon

skorpion · 06/10/2009 13:36

sleepless I've suddenly gone off food... Well, unless it's cake
I especially can't get any appetite for veg. Got told off by gp last week when I asked him for a prescription for some pregnacare - it should come from diet, don't believe in supplements blah blah blah. Funny, cause my pre-preg diet was usually OK...

Wook how confusing with different consultants saying different things... I do wish they'd make their minds up!! I've been told by one that I should prepare myself for an emergancy CS if I am still determinded to try for a VBAC in case it gets too painful () and by another one that I shouldn't have a problem... Yey about the operation, too!! And happy birthday to your DD.

Skorpion I've totally gone off veg as well. The only fruit I can stand is grapes and occassionally apples... Pregnancy does such odd things to you!!

skorpion · 06/10/2009 13:51

I think it may take more than one confirmed and one imminent baby for me to get my ass in gear... sass and raggie can I join the late club, please? I'm not due till the 29th so my head is still firmly in the sand and I'm back to the lalalalalala way of reacting to reality.

And besides, dh is convinced lo is not going to make an entrance until the 8th December - 8th of March is dh's b'day, no prizes for guessing what happened this year (little clue - nine months exactly )

And he should know, right?

ErikaMaye · 06/10/2009 13:54

LOL skorpion - DPs birthday is February 13th... I'm due November 16th

And of course, men know all...

Trikken · 06/10/2009 13:55

I think im pretty organised now, think all i need to put in my bag is my toothbrush and some more nappies.

been fancying strawberries and have picked up a pineapple, i know i shouldnt be encouraging her to come out too early but im soooo uncomfortable now.

skorpion · 06/10/2009 14:10

erika - well, at least I can blame him if she turns up early!!

mumsiebumsie · 06/10/2009 14:20

Brood hope everything is going well with you - hope to hear the good news soon!

Laugs just seen your comment about me posting my due date makes it easier for you to work out yours! Always happy to help! Bear in mind though, my brain has gone AWOL so I could be calculating incorrectly! Hope I'm not though.

I'm 32+5 and baby is measuring 4lb - can anyone give me an indication as to how big baby may be full term? I'm just getting scared as everyone says I'm huge .

tigger32 · 06/10/2009 14:27

Wow another busy day on here!

Broodzilla I'm thinking about you, hope things are moving on and that you will soon have your baby in your arms

I have finally started putting things into my bags for the hospital now, I have filled one quite large bag for labour and have loads of bits on the bed ready for the after bag! I don't remember having this much last time around.... how many bags has everyone else packed please??

I too feel off my food today and still very tired, my back is painful today too! (sorry for moan)

kyte really pleased you have date set, how exciting Not sure on the tube tying though sorry.

wizzy Belated Happy Birthday to your dd, glad you had a good day but sorry about the hospital trip.

Trikken · 06/10/2009 15:04

just one holdall. but also will be taking my normal bag which will have food, and my make-up, phone and other essentials.

tigger32 · 06/10/2009 15:36

Thanks Trikken how big is your holdall? Have you got everything in there for labour, shower after, baby and bits for staying in? Or do you plan to go home straight after labour?

Ninjacat · 06/10/2009 15:39

I hope the hospital don't charge for excess baggage

WizzyWoo · 06/10/2009 15:40

Ooh, I wonder what's happening with Broodzilla? I hope everything's ok... I'm sooo excited by the thought of the second November baby arriving already!

After the kind comment in someone's post recently (sorry, have read through the end of our last forum and all 23 pages of this one today so I really can't remember who said what - possibly Skorpion?), I've been inspired to go back on to my blog and have added a new post about DD's potty training...

I've also had my ante-natal visit from my health visitor this afternoon. It really hit home that it won't be long until the baby's here and I've started to get really excited!

I don't think I mentioned that my antenatal classes have started. I went to the first one last Monday and the second yesterday. They're just NHS ones but they seem to be a little more informative than the ones I went to when I was having DD. They actually do a full session about if things go wrong this time rather than just 20 minutes (I wish I'd known more about induction and forceps then) and they also do a session about bringing the baby home, bathing it, nappies etc which would have been really helpful last time. I just wish it wasn't such a big class. There are 22 mums and 3 dads in the group and no one seems to be interested in chatting with each other. I'm a friendly person and always try to engage the person next to me in conversation but there's only so much you can do when they're just not really giving anything back. I appreciate that they're probably feeling nervous since most are first timers but even the ones who already have a child seem to want to focus on the midwife and no one else. I thought it was meant to be about making friends as well as learning stuff? Thank goodness for you guys!

Thanks for the birthday wishes for DD, Tigger. If I'd been really sensible, I would have had a sort out of all her toys before her birthday but I was just downstairs tidying up and realised I was simply moving things from one pile to another as there's no room to put things away! I'm not in a sorting mood today so I'm going to continue to behave and rest like the doctors advised. Have to say I feel kind of lost when I'm not dashing round like a whirlwind... Still, I'd better make the most of it now I guess!

mumsiebumsie · 06/10/2009 16:14

Wizzywoo your blog is hilarious! Just read todays entry. Had me in hysterics . Would encourage everyone to read it!

scarlotti · 06/10/2009 16:29

Hi everyone

Broodzilla thinking of you exactly the same thing happened to me with DD at 36+3 and she was absolutley fine. Labour was fine too, and a little easier as she was small!

Kyte I've been told to wait about 6 months before having my tubes tied as things can all be swollen inside and so the operation might not be as successful. Might be worth chatting to your consultant about it.

I seem to be getting more tired now - anyone else got this? Baby feels like he's pushing downwards and making me feel like I could pop at anytime Everything is aching and I feel like there's just no room left in me to grow anymore!
Started packing my bag this morning and need a few more things in it. I am exactly a month from my due date today so am now in the 4 week territory - all becoming far too real and imminent now!!

Fruitpastels · 06/10/2009 16:33

Wizzy Loved your blog today I haven't laughed so much in ages! I needed a lift of spirits as my poxy cold has left me feeling rather rough today.

WizzyWoo · 06/10/2009 17:06

Thanks for the encouragement, mumsie and fruitpastels I'm glad you like it so far. Writing down little trials helps keep me sane! I hope you feel better soon fruitpastels. Kyte Thanks for the reassurance. I've heard a couple of people say that now so with any luck, the baby will sort out the problems I've been having. My health visitor wrote to me a few weeks ago saying that she'd like to arrange an antenatal visit and giving me a date. She came round with my first pregnancy too but they were very different visits. That one focussed on how to cope as a first time mum, the changes that may happen in my relationship with DH, feeding etc. This one was really helpful too with tips for helping DD adjust to the new baby, coping with two little ones etc. She made me see that I needn't be supermum to manage two kids and also talked through my fears about the birth. If I were you, I'd give my midwife a ring or even your GP surgery to see if they offer health visitor antenatal visits or whether it's in the pipeline but they might do it later.

Scarlotti I was about to mention the same achiness/pressure when I logged on to MN just now. I suppose it could just be that the baby's moving down to where it should be. I didn't feel this way with DD but then she was back to back and I've been told that this little star is the right way round It's scary packing the tiny newborn outfits into the hospital bag isn't it??!

WizzyWoo · 06/10/2009 17:08

I seem to have gone asterisk mad with people's names, don't know what that's about - must be the hormones!

Trikken · 06/10/2009 17:25

Maternity pads
Breast pads
dressing gown
3 sets of pajamas
3 large t-shirts
flip-flops
towel

6 or 7 baby outfits
2 hats
pair of mitts
cotton wool

My bag for hospital is really full. it is one of those long ones sporty people use.

weston · 06/10/2009 17:39

wouldn't worry mumsiebumsie they told me it was 6lb at 33 weeks and didnt seem unduly concerned! think its .5lb per week and first dd was 8.5lb so reckon will be around 9.5lb so u should be on track for avg 8lber!

Tamlin · 06/10/2009 17:56

Wizzy, it sounds as if you have a great HV. I hate mine with a fiery passion, and am considering hiding behind my curtains and pretending I'm not in when she shows up. (Every. single. bit. of. advice. she's ever given me has been wrong, from the idiotic 'You're feeding him too much!' diagnosis of my reflux baby to the 'You should stop breastfeeding while pregnant or you'll starve the baby!')
