Hello

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/10/2009 16:34

I don't know if more sickness equals a girl, but it's just different to my last pregnancy when I had a boy, so I'm wondering if it's different because it's a different gender baby.

Ugh, preg brain already? forgot what else I was going to say.

Oh yes, doulas - well, I had a perfectly normal but extremely painful birth last time, mostly because I was scared and overwhelmed. My dp found it all quite distressing, I don't blame him at all but it means I can't rely on him to advocate for me so having a doula is something I've considered. I know there's one local to me but she sounds very verrrry hippyish, (all lotusbirths and orgasmic deliveries...) which I personally find a bit offputting.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/10/2009 16:39

Carikube, we all have bad days, don't beat yourself up for having a shout, we've all been there more than once! you sound like you need a rest and a paracetamol. How old is your lo? will your other half be home in a bit to give you a rest? hope you're feeling better soon. x

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 01/10/2009 16:50

Carikube - as James said, we've all been there, don't worry about it. Sorry you're feeling so rough though

I've considered a doula but tbh, my last labour was fine cos I had a fantastic midwife, it was the postnatal stuff that was horrible so I would want to consider people to help with that more really.

Minniemummy - more weird comments from parents! They always know the wrong thing to say don't they? I was feeling really down earlier this week so my Dad started telling me about the risks of miscarriage to cheer me up My best friend got married in Henley-on-Thames!

Carikube · 01/10/2009 16:59

Thanks James and TCH - I'm sure I'm not the first one to be in this position! DH should be home at a reasonable hour tonight as he was feeling ropey this morning as well (we must have a bug or something as that would explain why we're all so miserable today). DD is only 6 mo so isn't really in a position to tell me what's wrong unfortunately though she seems to have calmed down a bit now.

Early night for the Carikube family methinks!

memorylapse · 01/10/2009 17:19

my mum is here today..she made me a lovely wholemeal cheese sandwich..and I embarrassed myself by throwing it all up in front of her.
DM and DSD are having a joint birthday meal on saturday and have booked a restaruant and Im expected to attaend...I can barely get off the sofa let alone go to dinner..imagine if I hurled at the dinner DM says shes expects me there, come hell or high water

sweetkitty · 01/10/2009 17:52

I have been getting aches in my lower back and across my stomach for about an hour now, very like period pains

Well I am being scanned tomorrow so not much I can do really

memorylapse - if it were me I would see how I feel on Saturday, if you are not up for it then don't go. I would rather someone didn't go than sit feeling miserable and throwing up and anything else is just plain selfish - sorry

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/10/2009 18:32

Sweetkitty, rest with your feet up if you can (I know you've your hands full there!) and try not to distress yourself. It's such a worrying time but hopefully it's nothing - what time is your scan? we'll all have our fingers crossed for you. x

Memorylapse, pregnancy is the one time when we get to be selfish because (for once!) our wellbeing and needs come first - if you are feeling too ill to attend then don't. Or say you'll do your best to stay for 20 min but can't commit to anything. They can't expect someone with hyperemesis to suddenly "switch it off" for two hours while they have a pleasant meal!

Carikube- Hope tomorrow is a better day for you all, don't be too hard on yourself.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/10/2009 18:37

Forgot to say I'm still spotting, sometimes brown, sometimes red, only small amounts but it's pretty much constant. I don't know whether it's anything to worry about or not since the scan came out ok. Not sure who to ask!

suey2 · 01/10/2009 19:03

Carikube I had a similarly poor day. Dd was really whiny and has suddenly got fussy with her food, spits it out and sometimes throws it on the floor. I shouted at her more than once. It is so hard when you feel under par

OP posts:
memorylapse · 01/10/2009 19:25

sweetkitty-Im going to see how I am and if needs be I wont go..only thing that worries me is that DM will probably hold it against me for ever
re; the pains..it could be ligament pain as I read that the uterus is the size of an orange at this stage, so everything is growing and strectching..take it easy and keep your feet up if you can

James..did they come up with any reason for the bleeding? it could be a cervical erosion..I bled all the way through my pregnancy with ds1 and they never knew why.

Hobnobfanatic · 01/10/2009 19:31

Had my booking-in appt today - was lovely to see my previous mw - but I can't believe it's almost 6 years since I last saw her! Yikes.

Is anyone considering a nuchal scan? They don't have them on the NHS here, so I'd have to pay - about £180. But, being almost 38, I think I might go for one, just to put my mind at ease. Apparently my odds are now 1 in 176 (IIRC) of having Downs. Six years ago, they were 600 and something!

I think I should have had all my pregnancies as a teenager - youngsters have health and time on their side!

Minniemummy - how much are doulas?

memorylapse · 01/10/2009 19:42

hobnob-yes Ive been toying with idea of a nuchal..again it would have to be private..my only worry is that I couldnt face having a CVS if my risk factor came back high for anything...I wouldnt terminate for Downs..but I do worry about other abnormalities being 37

Hobnobfanatic · 01/10/2009 20:06

Memorylapse - I know what you mean. I don't think CVS would be recommended for either of us, as it's not suitable for women who have bled in the pg, or, as in my case, have a tilted uterus.

I guess I'm just hoping that it will be positive, so I can relax a bit more into the pregnancy. But if it's negative...

memorylapse · 01/10/2009 20:37

hobnob-I certainly wouldnt be having the CVS then with all the bleeding ive had...so probably not a lot of point me having the NT scan....

sweetkitty · 01/10/2009 20:47

Thanks ladies - was hoping it was just stretching pains, worrying times

memorylapse - sorry if I was a bit blunt earlier, but hyperemesis is a borrible illness and you should be being looked after and not made to feel guilty for missing ONE birthday meal, the world is not going to collapse around your DM is your not there is it? I'm not even going to tell my mother I am pregnant, she will probably here it from my brother or something.

James - how far are you along now? They didn't find a reason for the spotting did they? Maybe ask for another scan in a week or two if you are still spotting

MinnieMummy · 01/10/2009 21:22

Ooh Heffa, whereabouts in Henley, we were at Phyllis Court! Are you local?
I think we will have a nuchal, I am 37 in Dec and we had them both times before, now they have randomly become free where we are so that would save a bundle. I honestly don't know what I'd do if it came back as high risk, but one step at a time.
I think doulas cost approx £500 depending on yr area and their experience, seems like a lot I know but I had a high-intervention birth the first time (drip, monitor, epidural, episiotomy, forceps) so I really wanted to have a different experience second time and had a home water birth with only TENS as pain relief, and I think the doula was a big part of being able to do that.

SK I had heard that girls give you more MS than boys, and I was definitely more sick with dd than ds, but now I'm revising the theory - I personally think the more a) tired and b) low blood sugar I am the more sick I feel. I've felt worse this time than both times put together and I'm sure it's to do with being knackered. Hope your aches are just that and you feel better soon.

JillyWillyPops · 01/10/2009 21:32

Hi ladies - wow, this thread is huge!! Looks like there are alot of us May ladies

I've still not had my booking in appointment arranged yet! Docs say that I've got to phone back next week to confirm pregnancy even though I've had 3 positive test! How crap is that!! I'll be 10 weeks before I even get to phone the midwife

I am really not feeling bad though, had no morning sickness and only really felt nausious a couple of days and a bit windy

Is anyone else not really having any symptoms??

x

memorylapse · 01/10/2009 22:03

Sweetkitty- no worries, didnt think you were being blunt at all

suey2 · 02/10/2009 07:58

morning all.
Scan today and very nervous! good luck, too, sweetkitty: virtual handholding required.

had an awful day yesterday: felt completely overwhelmed and almost like the bad old days of PND. am going into work today and going to lighten my load, also get the nanny more often for a bit.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 02/10/2009 08:29

Minniemummy - they got married at the big church in the centre of Henley, and then had the reception at a special barn place just outside the town. It was lovely! DH was an usher so we stayed at a great hotel in the centre (Loch Fyne Oyster Bar place). I'm from Devon though so not local.

JillyWillyPops - that's ridiculous! Do you have a number for the mdwife that you could just call?

SK - good luck for your scan today.

Suey2 - hope you have a better day today.

DD is poorly atm and so keeps getting up really early - 4.10am this morning DH is getting up with her but he's exhausted. Luckily PIL are coming round this evening and bringing take-away.

LotusPalm · 02/10/2009 08:49

Morning ladies -

Sorry for everyone who's feeling rubbish, and here's to hoping it goes away soon (but not too soon...)

Suey - thanks for all your help. Dont know why i didn't think of asking Max myself!

I'm a bit worried today (stress anyone) because i woke up this morning and feel absolutely fine. My boobs dont hurt, i dont feel sick just hungry, i'm not exhausted, i've been 'in the mood' for the first time in weeks (DH thinks all his Christmas's have come at once) and my temp has dropped. So obviously having a panic that it's an MMC...

Does anyone know about temping in pregnancy? I've carried on taking my temperature (though not as religiously as before) and have read that a drop in temp could signify something amiss. But equally, the hormones do start to diminish at a certain point so would expect temp to start to drop. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much information on that particular part of charting... I expect its probably a blip of some kind, but its dropped .6 which is huge, and even with adjusting for time, its still a .4 drop off.

I guess it's just wait and see.

I never thought i'd want ms back so much!

sweetkitty · 02/10/2009 08:53

Morning all

Like suey scan today let's hope everything is OK for us both.

Lotuspalm - what are we like we whinge when we have symptoms then worry when we don't, could just be your body settling down with the hormones, try not to worry

LuckyC · 02/10/2009 09:20

minniemummy thanks for doula info. I am definitely going to look into it. I think the midwives at Chipping NOrton birthing centre are fab but my 2nd option is the JR in Oxford where everyone is incredible busy and overcrowded and you get left alone. apparently.

So - I am now going to stop thinking about it as is a long way off.

sweetkitty i long for a cleaner - hope all well today and for you suey2 lotuspalm try not to worry and just enjoy a symptom-free day or 2 if you're lucky - cos the symptoms will probably just come roaring back soon...

BuongiornoPrincipessa · 02/10/2009 09:40

minniemummy I am local to Henley - down the road in Wallingford.

LuckyC think my options are JR or local Wallingford Midwife unit which many of my friends have recommended. But too early to think about it.

Had a bit of a hormone-addled brain last night - argued with my DH last night over something stupid, then got really upset as I had pinkish-red wee - was worried all night, then remembered this morning I had eaten a load of beetroot for my tea so this is probably the culprit

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 02/10/2009 09:50

Feeling yucky this morning but mustn't grumble, I don't know how you girls with severe morning sickness cope, I'm full of admiration for you! The smallest things are making me feel sick, it's so odd!

Best of luck today at your scans Suey and SweetKitty - sending you "good news" vibes!!

LotusPalm, last week before my scan, just to scare me I had a few symptom free days where I wasn't tired, sick, my boobs were fine etc - it's all back with a vengeance now. I think resting was helping - have you been putting your feet up? I don't know anything about temping but I'm sure the climate inside the body does change naturally from time to time.

Hope everybody else is doing ok!
