Congratulations, Mummyhill!!

Glad to hear you have an end-date in sight, StayFrosty, but things could progress sooner than that!

My indigestion kept me up for hours last night and I've been zombie-like all day. DP has been to work, chauffeured me into town and back and is now painting the landing while cooking the Sunday roast (he's better at multi-tasking than most), while I sit on my big fat arse (unable to uni-task today)... All things considered, I'm a lucky girl

congrats mummyhill! is that the quickest labor - birth Announcement yet?

babies coming everyday now...! I'm pretty sure mine is going to be an october baby in the september thread!

Minshu · 28/09/2009 09:27

It is quiet on here, isn't it? Not much in the way of September left, is there?

Nothing from FairySparkles for a while.

Woke up with crampy type pains, but think they are just normal late pg aches that will ease off once I've done a bit of yoga.

Every time I see someone with a baby now, I get jealous While I've mostly enjoyed having the LO as an innie-baby, I now want an outtie-one [stamps feet][sulks]

mrswee · 28/09/2009 12:02

Just back from my 40 week MW appointment (40 weeks tomorrow!)

She said the head is 3/5ths engaged, so nothing spectacular going on yet but getting there.... I am also wondering what this lump is in my left pelvis if the head is engaged.. an elbow?

No mention of sweeps or checking my cervix, she just gave me an appointment for one week away and said if the baby wasn't here by then, then they will book me in for induction!

My blood pressure was up at 130/84 ... normally it sits around 114/70. Two weeks ago it was 114/80 for the first time.

She wasn't worried about this reading but I am slightly alarmed! anyone else have raised blood pressure towards the end?

Stayfrosty, you have my total sympathy. I am also suffering SPD.
I just know that going for a swim would be blissful but I could not get in or especially out of my swimming gear due to inability to use my legs and pelvis!
My midwife suggested today that long walks would help bring on labour FFS! I just looked her and said I can't really and she remembered my SPD that I pleaded with her weeks ago to put in my notes

The birthing ball hurts me too, I am just wondering how I am going to be while in labour?

Did you have SPD with your last babies? how did it effect your labour?

Mrswee - if your mw isn't worried about your bp, then you shouldn't be. Mine takes a second reading if it's up at all at the beginning of an appointment.

StayFrosty - turning over in bed without having to sit up and groan - what luxury would that be?!? I painted my toenails this morning - they are horrible without anything on them, and I couldn't face being in hospital with them naked in front of strangers. Not worried about the LG so much now as it's so long since I've seen it

Sorry you're both suffering with SPD. I realise how lucky I've been with this whole thing so far.

I'm still crampy and think I've had a little light spotting, but not like a show - will call mw if it carries on. Been rolling around on my birthing ball and intend to go for a gentle stroll a bit later, but not too far on my own. For the first time I'm thinking I might go into labour without having to be induced and have told DP to make sure he had his phone handy at all times. It could all begin to seem real, soon, but still thinking October baby rather than September...

Definitely sounds like a pre-menstrual mood-cycle. Miriam Stoppard reliably informs me that such feelings are normal for pre-labour, too.

I'm fluctuating between hoping that this is really going to happen in the next couple of days and being absolutely terrified that this might really happen in the next couple of days.

PMSL - "magicked out by the fanjo fairy" - just off to rewrite my birth plan!!!

I used the word "fanjo" in conversation with DP the other day without thinking. A couple of minutes later he said, "did you actually call it a fanjo??"

Minshu · 28/09/2009 15:00

Not that DP and I talk about fanjos that often - it was in the context of the upcoming birth thing

Ladyem · 28/09/2009 15:33

Hi Ladies!

Sorry to hear you are all suffering in one way or another Lets hope that these babies decide to make an appearance soon!

Stayfrost and Mrswee I had severe SPD and was given crutches (when they finally saw me TWO DAYS BEFORE INDUCTION!!! ) but that's another story!! Anyway, my point was that when I was in labour I didn't notice my SPD at all. I delivered on my back, too as it was all so fast. I think that the pain relief (in my case Gas and Air) must take away some of the SPD pain and the pain from the contractions takes your mind off the rest!! I had it with both my DC and both times I was unable to lie on my side during pregnancy as it was too painful, and couldn't move or walk very well at all, but during labour with DS last month they moved me from the ward to delivery suite without my beloved G&A and when I got to the delivery room I leapt off my bed and onto the delivery bed so fast so that I could have my G&A that the MWs couldn't believe it!! I REALLY wanted my G&A!! So don't worry too much how it will affect you. I did have the distance measured of how far I could get my knees apart, but I don't think it was ever measured in labour. Best to make a note of it, though, just in case!!

After delivery it was probably 90% better and now 5 weeks on is completely better and I can hardly remember what it was like to be in that much pain - IYSWIM!!

Sending hugs and labour vibes to all !

StealthPolarBear · 28/09/2009 16:24

Congratulations mummyhill

mrswee, yes, me too, at my last appointment my bp which had been lovely and low all the way through was a bit raised - nothing to worry about but of course I started to panic it was on its way up. Of course it was all fine. Just make sure you take any other symptoms seriously but I'm sure it's normal for it to fluctuate.
SF, I don't blame you for sulking! Glad to hear that in 48 hours things will be happening for you if not before.

Hello all - finally found time to come and check in with everyone and share my birth story...

Well, was a week overdue and went for my routine 41 week appointment with midwife who was going to do a sweep. Got there and had all the checks done and she went to palpate my bump and said "Hmm - this baby feels high and free to me. There's no way I'll do a sweep in case I break your waters and the cord comes first" grrr. She then followed it up with "Actually, that feels too soft to be a head - I think we'd better get you scanned" and sent me up to the assessment centre at the hospital.

We took DS to my mum and dad's with absolutely nothing as I thought I'd be home later that day. Got up the the hospital and was put on the monitor. This showed baby's heartrate blipping every now and again and then they became worried about lack of movements. Then there was talk of induction that evening - by this point it was 8pm. The registrar came and did the scan which showed baby was head down and engaged and what the midwife had felt were shoulders. So, the sister then did a sweep, which was SOOOO painful as she couldn't find my cervix and when she did, had to pull it to the front.

All went quiet overnight - I was kept in and monitored at intervals throughout to make sure baby was happy. The following day, I was expecting to go home as everything seemed ok, but they said they wouldn't discharge me and were going to induce me as soon as there was space for me on labour ward.

The day passed and had a few niggly tightenings, but nothing major. At 8pm, the midwife came to me to say a midwife was on her way to take me up to labour ward to break my waters. We got up there and settled into the room and the midwife came to break my waters at about 9pm. Again, she couldn't find my cervix and said they might have to start with prostin gel first. She got another sister to come and see if she could find it, which she eventually did (after making me sit on my fists!) and managed to break my waters.

That was about 10pm, then nothing. Another registrar came and said "we really need to be getting this baby out" which freaked me out and said they were going to put me on Syntocin to speed things up. She put a canular in and managed to get blood to squirt on to the wall on the opposite side of the room!

They started the drip at 11pm and I was begging for an epidural by about 11.30pm! They said they thought I was doing great alone (I'd had nothing by this point) and asked if I'd try G&A which I didn't want as it made me sick when in labour with DS. So, they offered Diamorphine and I gratefully accepted! They went to sign the Diamorphine out and in the meantime things cranked up a notch. I'd tried bouncing on a ball, but baby's head was so far down by now that it was excrutiating. Ended up lying on my side clutching the rails of the bed for dear life!

12am came, as did the shot of Diamorphine. I was writhing in agony by now, and said ok to G&A until the Diamorphine kicked in (about 10 mins normally). At 12.15am, I recall saying "I really need to push" which surprised the midwife who said she'd have a look with my next contraction. My next contraction came, as did baby's head! Seems like I was doing it all without me or the midwife actually realising how far along I was! They told me to pant and as I did the next contraction got the rest of him out. The placenta came after another 9 minutes which a gentle tug and another push from me (I asked to have a look this time - actually very interesting)!

So, that was it - in the end, 9 days overdue and after having my waters breaking and THEN the Syntocin, my actual labour from 0-10cms to delivering the placenta was only 1hour 20 minutes! Baby Oliver James weighed 10lbs 4oz and fortunately had no stitches and only a slight graze, which I think is a miracle.

Oliver is amazing and DS1 has taken to him really well (keeps telling visitors not to wake him and that he's very delicate etc etc) and although I seem to be constantly feeding, things generally are going ok (touch wood, for the moment!).

Well done if you got this far - is so cathartic to write it all down!

TrixieVix · 28/09/2009 18:20

Thank you for all the congratulations, and congratulations and well done to all those who have delivered whilst I've been AWOL...

Well done Sprinkle, Stealth, April, TigerFeet, PeppermintCream, Gonnabeamumma, Thusnelda, Labella and Mummyhill....think that's everyone who's delivered since I've been AWOL, but lets face it, marbles haven't returned post-pregnancy, so do forgive me if I've missed you off!

How is everyone getting on?

Really thinking of those of you still hanging on - guess you're providing such a lovely home for your LO, they're reluctant to come out!

Just off to join the Post Natal thread...

arolf · 28/09/2009 21:55

just briefly - birth announcement!

Oliver Ales arrived on saturday evening, 8 lb 15.5 oz, forceps delivery, epic labour, ended up with episiotomy and 2nd degree tear, so am moving very slowly

he's a bit bruised and cut from forceps, but utterly gorgeous, and feeding well!

got out of hosp this evening, so a bit shell shocked and looking forward to settling down with him over the coming weeks.

congrats all the other new mummies, and good luck to the remaining expectants!

Minshu · 29/09/2009 09:06

Congratulations, arolf!!

Thanks for the birth story, TrixieVix.

There are still a few of us hanging around on here, the "September" thread. Less than thirty-nine hours left for our LOs to not make liars out of us

I had hoped that the niggly cramps from yesterday were going to develop into something yesterday evening, but on the bright side it was quite nice to get a relatively decent night's sleep instead. Will try walking and bouncing to get things moving today.
