Good luck snowfalls.

Minshu · 24/09/2009 09:30

Congratulations, Gonnab!!

Oh no, StayFrosty - so sorry you're having such a rough time. Hope the consultant can do something productive.

Fingers crossed for the sweep, FS.

Snowfalls - that happened to a friend of mine when she was induced - turned out to be fourth day in hospital that she went into labour, iirc, but she managed not to lose her marbles in that time, somehow. Beautiful baby at the end, though.

Off to see the obstetrician this afternoon - no idea what she's going to suggest, or if I'll be offered a sweep today. Would like to think that the mw was right in that I wouldn't be allowed to go too far over, but not going to get my hopes up for a date today, too much.

twinklegreen · 24/09/2009 10:54

Snowfalls so sorry to hear your induction isn't going to plan Just to let you know that I'll be thinking of you and sending you plenty of labour vibes. Let us know when your baby is here, which will be very soon

nitnat84 · 24/09/2009 11:38

Snowfalls- fingers crossed for you! Hopefully they will be able to fit u in today.
Well I have my second sweep today- fingers crossed!Send your labour vibes this way ladies

JRocks · 24/09/2009 11:51

fingers crossed for you snowfalls, hope today brings baby news for you

FairySparkles · 24/09/2009 12:15

How frustrating Snowfalls - at least the end is in sight now - will keep everything crossed for you that they can fit you in today!!

Just got back from my sweep - quite encouraging; I've progressed from the sweep on tues and am now about 3cm dilated but still very thick cervix so still some way to go yet - got another one booked in for saturday morning but I'm REALLY hoping I won't need it!!

Hope you've all got a lovely sunny day too - gonna take dd for a long walk this aft to try encourage junior to make an appearence!

to all xx

arolf · 24/09/2009 12:25

hi all,
well, I have some news - no baby yet, but had some serious show during the night, then contractions started this morning, followed by some fairly heavy bleeding. So, I'm back from the hospital and typing this, which obviously means it wasn't serious enough bleeding to keep me in - plus contractions appear to have stopped now. I'm going to go out for a walk in a bit and try and get them going again (actually, just had to pause from typing that as one hit - so they haven't completely stopped obviously!).

anyway, am hoping that this means I'll have a baby by the weekend - and it looks like the failed sweep yesterday was fairly effective after all!

good luck all those having sweeps today - hope yours are as productive as mine appears to have been! and fingers crossed for snowfalls and stayfrosty that you'll pip me to the post with babies

nitnat84 · 24/09/2009 12:38

FairySparkles- 3cm is gd! When are/were you due? I have my 2nd one at 3pm. I will let you know. I was 1cm last on monday. fingers crossed you dont need another on Saturday.

mummyhill · 24/09/2009 16:38

hmm apparently I am being unreasonable and hormonal what do you think?

Feeling quite sleepy today. Panicing about little stuff and am strangely calm about major stuff that possibly should have me stressing.

Kids are driving me mental with constant bickering and ignoring me. I know they are just worried/excited about the new baby but I seem to have very little patience atm.

nitnat84 · 24/09/2009 17:11

Can any of you help?
Hubby is entitled to 2 weeks paternity pay and leave. If I end up needing a c-section can he have extended paternity leave? He is a teacher.

StealthPolarBear · 24/09/2009 19:09

arolf - keep us updated!
mumsylady - what can they do about it? Are you on antibiotics, or can you not have them? Hope you canget it sorted quickly.
nitnat, I wouldn't have thought so, sorry (although you might get a better response in employment if you haven't already). He will be entitled to unpaid parental leave though, I think - you get so much to be taken before the child is a certain age and hopefully they'd agree to the dates. Also he might be entitled to carer leave?

mummy2t · 24/09/2009 19:41

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT

Baby Oliver James born this morning at 12.20am weighing 10lbs 4oz - birth story to follow

Keep smiling ladies - they do eventually come out I promise!!!!!

Back tomorrow to update you, but thinking positively for you all xx

Minshu · 24/09/2009 23:22

Fabulous news TrixieVix - congratulations!!

Nitnat - I think that Stealth is right. A guy at work had twins, with a little help from his wife who had a CS, and got a bit of extra time due to compassionate leave and using up all his annual entitlement, but this was at "management discretion" over and above the legal entitlement.

Poor you, mumsylady - hope you are fully recovered from the infection and the babies are with you soon!

Hope things get moving properly, arolf. And good luck to mummy2t - I too am trying the approach of piling so much food on top of the baby that she gets squeezed out

Ended up seeing a different (but equally lovely and enthusiastic) doctor today - the head is definitely getting lower, and there are no indications that would lead them to want to intervene, so got another appointment for next Thursday (41+2), where they may sweep if the head is actually engaged, and will talk about the possibility of induction the following week then.

I'm lucky in that I'm not particularly physically uncomfortable, but just don't really know what to do with myself in the meantime...

Found that my local tesco have exercise balls for a fiver, so have spent the last couple of hours wobbling about the living room

mummyhill · 25/09/2009 07:05

Congratulations Trixievix.

newbie36 · 25/09/2009 07:44

I'm still waiting for the big event aswell that said though not sure if things may be progressing. Had a membrane sweep yesterday afternoon on my due date. Came as a total surprise because I thought they would wait till I was overdue. It was a bit painful but not too bad, was told my cervix was favourable and baby is 4/5 engaged. Since then have developed some strong period style pain which comes and goes for about 5 seconds every 6 to 10 minutes. Fairly sure these don't count as contractions as they don't last very long. But have no idea what to expect!! Anyone have any idea?

Minshu · 25/09/2009 09:23

As another first-timer, I don't really know what to expect, either, newbie. But sounds like you are getting more progress than me

Hope it turns into something more definite very soon

newbie36 · 25/09/2009 09:35

Thanks Minshu - honestly it's ridiculous, I'm clinging on to any little sign that things may be moving along. Yesterday at the appointment they even gave me an induction date of the 5th October if things haven't moved on by then. Has the hospital you're going to done the same?

Not sure how I feel about an induction on the 5th October - yes I just want to get on with things, but at the same time will only be 41 weeks and 3 days. Am crossing my fingers it's something I won't need to worry about.

Hope we both get some progress today - come on babies!!!
