Hello everyone...

Had a positive test this morning, suspect due on 3rd June. Gulp! Very surprised as DD is only 9 months and it took me 2 years to conceive the first time around.

Anyone here to join teh long wait?

barak so sorry to hear that, take care x

ELM & all who have wished me well thank you this has been the longest week of my life! Scan is at 11:00, will pop in and update whatever happens.

ICNTOAGN hope everything is ok x

LittleRobbo · 12/11/2009 11:05

So,so sorry barack and i wish you all the happiness in the world for the future.

gizmo · 12/11/2009 11:19

Barack that is sad. Please look after yourself.

fillybuster · 12/11/2009 11:21

Barack - I'm so sorry and can wish you peace and future happiness.

Newhere - hope today goes well

ELM - glad its only one, even if you are still so sick...hopefully it will pass soon

Saucepan - that's very very sweet. I've told dd (she's 21 months with diabolical speech so not a chance of her letting it slip to anyone!) and she keep saying hello to the baby in my tummy. Oddly, ds (4) has been reminding me (frequently) that we are due another baby soon...so I think he'll be very pleased when we do tell him.

Celery - that's actually really interesting as I'm fairly definite its a boy but am in the lovely position of really not caring (although I do seem to have a lot more little girl clothes than boy ones put away for some reason....)

Cadmum - it is sooooo not twins. A puppy would be great though. I've been after a puppy for years but dh won't let us have one until all the kids are off the floor (and there's someone around to keep it company...sadly, I work full time at the moment). A puppy pregnancy would be a fab solution Although ds is likely to remember he was promised a puppy after baby #3 at some point....

I spent 2 hours yesterday emptying my wardrobe of all my 'thin' clothes and getting the 'fat' ones out from storage. Frustratingly its only been about six months since I put the last of those away after finally losing the last lot of baby weight . I dragged all my 'real' maternity clothes out as well and sorted through them...was a bit vile really I'd forgotten how grim most maternity wear is ...anyway, was good to see what I do/don't own (more than I had thought, and one or two not bad things) and a bit of a relief to realise that I'm definitely not into maternity wear yet

HappyAccident · 12/11/2009 12:55

Getting worried about you icntoagn - was everything ok yesterday?

Best wishes to you Barack.

Cadmum - did you manage to stay bleed free whilst you were away - I don't think you said?
My non-sleeper is 13 months, although he did actually sleep through last night .

Both pregnancies were pretty much the same for me, and I have one of each, so will get no clues from that! Am probably not going to ask this time, as a surprise would be nice, and it really doesn't matter when we have clothes for each already (although I had started giving away and selling my girls stuff in particular).

Icanneverthinkofagoodname · 12/11/2009 13:25

Hi sorry I took so long to post. Was just really tired last night after back from hospital. Everything is great, the baby was moving about like mad and it felt amazing to see him/her, however briefly. The moment when the midwife turns the screen away so she can check its ok before she shows you is soo scary though. Almost wet myself. Cried when I saw it was ok.
I am afraid its not twins, so down to someone else. Sorry.
Had horrible time getting any blood out of me. Took about an hour and after the midwives gave up I was sent to phlebotomy to let the experts have a shot. Got it out of my hand in the end but am all bruised now. (Its because I had chemo (hodgkins disease) for about 9 months, 6 years ago and it wrecked all my veins) So, not looking forward to more blood tests at 20 weeks.
Anyway really have nothing to moan about as baby is alive and kicking. So sorry to hear Baraks news.
Oh and I agree with the no testing as I couldnt risk causing miscarriage and couldnt abort anyway especially after seeing how alive the baby is just now.
Off to Barcelona this afternoon so better get some work done.
NB Will try and shorten my name sometime soon so people dont have so much to type

readysetgo · 12/11/2009 13:49

I'd like to go to Barcelona too please!

Feel horrendously lazy today. Have a days holiday from work, fell asleep at 8.30pm last night and woke up at 12 noon! I've never done that before. Felt horrendous all day yesterday, really sick and at points just wished I could actually puke in case it made me feel better. Perhaps it really is tiredness related as I feel ok today. Starving hungry though!

Got my first dr's appointment next week, I left it til a little later on this pregnancy as my last (ending in mc) I went at 6 weeks and the dr looked at me like I was crazy.

Really sorry Barack xx

Glad to see everyone else is OK!

greensnail · 12/11/2009 14:09

gizmo reasons for not testing basically the same as others have mentionned. I know I wouldn't want to have an abortion if there was a problem, so any tests would be for information only. I couldn't justify having diagnostic tests which carry a risk of miscarriage, so don't see the point in having the initial tests as if they come back high risk, its only going to worry me for the whole pregnancy. I'm in the lucky position of being low risk anyway due to my age, and only have one DD to consider at the moment. I think if i went on to have more children after this one I would need to think more carefully about testing as I would have more children to consider the impact on though.

Sorry, HappyAccident I know I'm really lucky to have a good sleeper. She has 2 good naps a day too which is a godsend at the moment. New baby will probably be a complete nightmare to make up for it because we've really had things quite easy with DD. Yes am still BF'ing - are you? DD shows absolutely no signs of wanting to stop at the moment. Will be interesting to see what happens as this pregnancy goes on. Have bought "Adventures in Tandem nursing" but haven't got very far with it yet.

Lol at fillybuster being pg with a puppy!

Barack so sorry to hear your news. Hope you are being well looked after

herewegrow · 12/11/2009 14:30

Barack So sorry. Take care.

Cadmum glad you had a nice relaxing time in Barca.

ICanNever great news re your scan although I am now wondering who is going to have the twins for us. Enjoy Barca

Sorry if I forgotten anything important, but already my brain is going to mush (that is my excuse and i'm sticking to it!!)

Not sure what is going on but I am not quite 8 wks and already have a significantly pop belly. Ok, this is my second but even so. Someone at work just asked me if I'd had a big lunch . Have definelty noticed a bump already but DH says it's not that noticable just like I've eaten too much. Was hoping to keep this pg a secret from work until the new year as I've only been back from maternity leave about 6 weeks.

HappyAccident · 12/11/2009 15:29

You might guess who I am from this greensnail, as we've spoken before, but yes, I am already tandem feeding.

greensnail · 12/11/2009 15:33

Ahh, I was just wondering if it was you actually. Don't worry I won't tell ;) I'm feeling much happier about it since we last spoke though.

greensnail · 12/11/2009 15:33

oops, that was meant to be

ELM · 12/11/2009 16:28

Barack so sorry to hear your news.

Can I be nosy? (and also show that I haven't read all previous posts in detail ). For those that decide not to do testing, does that include the 20 week scan as well?

I'm always interested in hearing other peoples opinions on this.
I am having all tests offered - but not not at all sure would I would do if the reults weren't good. suspect DH and I would differ in our wishes. There was a lot in the news about this recently, and while I am hoping for reassurance, I'm not sure that I am making the right decisions in having the nuchal tests.

Definitely will be having 20 week anomally scan though.

MrsAlwaysRight · 12/11/2009 16:58

to see so many people leaving the thread already.

An update from me as I haven't posted since joining the thread. Had my booking in appointment this afternoon with the midwife. She said it was too early to listen to babies heart beat until I said I'd already heard it a few times on my doppler at home! She had a listen and managed to find it That combined with how big my uterus felt makes her think my dates might be wrong and I may be a bit further along than we thought. Not convinced about this as pretty sure there wasn't much action in the weeks prior . Also the pregnancy tests I did with conception indictator seemed to tie in with current due date. Will have to wait for dating scan on 3rd December to find out!

Feeling fairly nauseous on and off and have found the only thing helping is almost constantly stuffing my face. Have already got too big for some of my work trousers

We will be opting out of any testing primarily because without further invasive tests you don't know for definate and I wouldn't want to risk an amniocentesis so don't see the point of finding out the risk factor.

imkeepingmum · 12/11/2009 18:56

Mrsalwaysright - lovely to hear the hearbeat! Am with you on the work trousers thing, can just about do up zip but buttons don't do up, 1st baby though and only 8 weeks so probably bloated...although am having great fun teasing my DP that it could be twins ...one would be fine thank you!

Fabi76 · 12/11/2009 19:43

Hello all! I had an early scan this morning because had two bleeding episodes, and I was told that everything is fine - I saw the baby moving his (I think it's a boy!) arms and feet and couldn't stop crying. Now it feels real for the first time because I'm not having any symptoms and was starting to worry about that. They told me that I could have more bleeding because there's some blood trapped next to the sac but apparently is harmless and it may reabsorb. Anyway, sorry for the long post, just wanted to share the news. I hope things keep going well for all and I felt very sorry to hear Baracks' news - I hope you are getting a lot of support. Have a good evening!

greensnail · 12/11/2009 20:01

Fab news Fabi! Can't wait for my dating scan to see my little bean, hopefully, if all is well. Only 2 weeks to wait now.

ELM yes, I will be having the anomaly scan as this can give you some conclusive information without needing further tests, but also because its lovely to see the baby

GibberingGinger · 12/11/2009 20:02

Barak, so sorry to hear your news. Maybe I'm naive, but I can't believe the bad luck we have been having with the number of mc on this thread

I'm sick, sick, sick. And tired, tired, tired. And majorly grumpy. Maybe its me that's in line for twins Have been fretting about it cause DH parental grandfather is a twin and my parental grandmother is a twin. In fact my great grandmother gave birth 9 times but had 12 children (boy twins, mixed twins, girl twins and 6 singles). At one point supposedly she had 5 under 4!

readysetgo · 12/11/2009 20:42

Wow Ginger, sounds scary! Lol

Fabi lovely to read the positive news. I've got aaages til my first scan. Booo

My DP has twins in his family dotted all over. I don't and I read it had to be on the mothers side? Hope so ;)

I'm 7 + 4 and my jeans are too tight today! These ones have always been a little bit of a squeeze though.. sigh. Will they ever fit again?! I've not put any weight on yet so must be bloated!

DP says I look like I've eaten too much as well herewegrow the little charmer!

RnB · 12/11/2009 23:20

oh Barack I'm so sorry

Woofie · 13/11/2009 10:31

Hello everyone,

So sorry to hear your news barack. I agree ginger - think we've had more than our share of mcs on this thread

Great to hear about the scans fabi, icntoagn (sorry can't remember others) - I can't wait for mine, but it's not until 5th Dec when I'll be nearly 14 wks. Grrr

I'm having to nuchal scan. Hoping it will come back low risk as I'm not sure what I'd do if faced with the option of an invasive test. Dh has some pretty strong views on this, but I'm much more ambivalent.

My bump is a ridiculous size for 10 1/2 weeks - was flat as a pancake at this stage last pg. Wish i still had some functioning stomach muscles - hey ho.

Well we're getting towards the end of Trimester 1 - how exciting! Roll on the glowing, blooming bit.

minimoonumbertwo · 13/11/2009 13:01

Hi All,

Sorry to be naive but which tests carry a risk of miscarriage? Does the triple test & do they check with you whether you want it before they do it iyswim?

Sorry, don't seem to remember anything from last time although i do think it's changed a bit...

fillybuster · 13/11/2009 13:21

5 under 4?????

Eek. And there was me worrying about 3 under 5...

HappyAccident · 13/11/2009 13:29

Don't panic minimoo - none of the routine tests carry a risk of miscarriage (the triple test is just a blood test). It's amnio and CVS that carry a risk, and this would be discussed with you before either would be carried out. These are the type of diagnostic tests that can tell you for certain whether your baby has eg downs, rather than just giving you a ratio of likelihood like the triple test and nuchal.

Yes, twins need to be on mother's side to pass down genetic likelihood readysetgo. But of course there's always a chance of non-fraternal twins for anyone.

Fabi - great news re scan. It's very unusual for even an experienced sonographer to be able to tell the sex at this stage though, so please don't be set on it being a boy already!

ELM - I do have the anomaly scan, yes, and do indicate that I would like to know if they do spot any markers. In my last 2 pregnancies I've tried to find out the sex at this scan (couldn't tell with dd as cord in the way), but this time I don't think I will.

GibberingGinger · 13/11/2009 13:44

Even in my great grandmother's day (early 1900s) I think having 5 under 4 was a lot and I think she got a lot of comments! In theory I should be genetically ok to avoid twins as its my dad's mum who was a twin and therefore it will go down my dad's sisters side of the family. My female cousin is actually pregnant as well, and she must really be wondering how many she is carrying. Thought like HA says, there is always the chance of identical twins in anyone.

Have been a complete blabbermouth and told loads of people I'm preggers. It's difficult as I'm such a booze hound that people guess as soon as I'm off alcohol. It's my birthday today so am off out for a meal and drinks tomorrow with a load of friends so that will be the cat out of the bag to a whole lot more people. Not that I mind. It's nice news to tell people.

Hope everyone has lovely relaxing weekends.
