Hello everyone...

Had a positive test this morning, suspect due on 3rd June. Gulp! Very surprised as DD is only 9 months and it took me 2 years to conceive the first time around.

Anyone here to join teh long wait?

I look awful. I have big nasty spots on my chin and bug bags under my eyes and my skin is so white. Hope a couple of days of sunshine in Barcelona will help.
Away for my first scan this afternoon. Very very very nervous now that I will find out something awful. Will let you know how it goes (and whether I get the twins ) later.

minimoonumbertwo · 11/11/2009 12:15

Oh good luck icntoagn!!! Do let us know...

ooh am jealous of barcelona, tapas mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

HappyAccident, yes, you're right, it's important to emphasise for those going through this for the first time that tests are optional. I'm a bit of a control freak and my life is quite tightly wound, so I don't like surprises and tend to opt for every test going, but I know many people opt out of testing for very good reasons.

RnB · 11/11/2009 14:45

I am having a nuchal fold scan, have got my date through - 25th oct, will be 13 weeks by then. I'm a bit disappointed it's not next week - am anxious to see the baby.

mrsCO9 my mum is Rh- and she had 7 children. You will need the Anti-D injection at some point.

Feel rubbish today- just met a friend for lunch and I can now feel it sitting in my stomach not really wanting to be there

And I have a face full of spots too

greensnail · 11/11/2009 15:48

Oh I look hideous, my skin is terrible I heard you look better with a girl - sorry minimoo

Hope all's going well Icanneverthinkofagoodname

I'm another test refuser, only had to decline the triple test last time but they've started offering nuchal scan on NHS here since my last pregnancy so I got to decline that too this time.

gizmo · 11/11/2009 15:59

Greensnail, if it's not too personal, can I ask why you opt out of testing?

GibberingGinger · 11/11/2009 16:24

Unless its changed from last time I don't think my area offers the nuchal fold test, so I'll have to wait for the bloods at 16weeks probably. I'm probably going to have most tests. I'm a control freak and need to prepare for things. Hopefully all the tests will come back with good results and I'll not have to make any hard decisions (sticks head in sand)

NewhereHelp · 11/11/2009 16:28

Still hanging around, have another scan on Friday but not looking too promising see this link.

Thought I'd just add to the testing conversation - when I had my two DS's 15 / 16 yrs ago I didn't have the tests on the grounds that had they returned something bad I would still not want to end the life growing inside me. I am with a different parter now, he is older than me (55) and I am now 38 so the risks are greater. He also has some experience of a mentally disabled relative and the impact this had on the family concerned. He has asked me to have the tests so we can make informed decisions. Maybe age and experience has also taught me that burrying my head in the sand may not always the best idea.

I will have the screening tests but not sure about the diagnostics which carry with it a risk of misscarriage (please god we get that far).

Glad all is well and the thread seems a happier one now. Will hopefully become a more frequent contributor after Friday x

NewhereHelp · 11/11/2009 16:30

ginger crossed post - bhis comment not personal sorry!!

gizmo · 11/11/2009 16:38

Oh I hope so, Newherehelp - do let us know how it goes.

I think all that age and experience has taught me (at the wizened vintage of 39) is that just when you think things can't get any more complicated, they will!

NewhereHelp · 11/11/2009 17:22

I so know that feeling Gizmo !!

HappyAccident · 11/11/2009 20:12

Hey, less of the 'finally sleeping through' comments greensnail - mine is older than yours and still doesn't . Are you still bf'ing btw?

How did the scan go icntoagn?

RnB - presume you mean 25th Nov?

Gizmo - I know that your question was directed at gs, but I'm going to answer for me too! I decline the testing because a high risk result won't actually tell me whether there's a problem or not, and I don't want to spend the rest of the pregnancy worrying. I wouldn't have CVS or amnio due to the m/c risk, however small, so I would be left none the wiser. I like to live in hope that all will be fine, and if not then we'll deal with whatever is thrown at us when we have to.

Fingers crossed for Friday NewHereHelp.

gizmo · 11/11/2009 20:48

Gotcha, HA. Its a minefield isn't it? I know I'm much less relaxed about it now than I was when DS1 was born, 7 years ago. Partly because my risks are much higher now (although still, of course, the balance of probabilities is that there is nothing wrong with this pregnancy) and partly because a child with a disorder is going to have an impact not just on me and DH but on my two other children.

None of which helps with any decisions re testing, to be honest. Let's hope this is the worst dilemma we have to face.

On the bright side, it's 8.45, I'm in my pyjamas and about to go to bed. So I've got control of one thing about my pregnancy!

Cadmum · 11/11/2009 21:14

I just lost a long post. Here is a short recap:

We are back from Barcelona and it was very relaxing. I had a nap every afternoon and managed to spend at least 11 hours in bed every night. Sleep seemed to be the magic cure for morning sickness which is now back with a vengeance...

Icanneverthinkofagoodname I hope things went well today. (Twins?) As you might have guessed, I was unable to find a smoke-free restaurant worth recommending. The good news is that you might still be able to eat outdoors most days. The weather was lovely with the exception of wind in the late afternoons.

HappyAccident How old is your non-sleeper? My dd2 has only been 'sleeping-through' for three weeks and she is as old as your first. Thankfully, she did sleep even on holiday so she may actually be there now.

Another non-tester here. I would only worry about the information and I could never terminate so I can't see the point. I had scans with the lot of ours but refused any additional test. I only sensed resistance in New York with dd2 but then I suppose that I was getting on then as well.

fillybuster · 11/11/2009 21:15

I'm so relieved to hear that between HA and ICNTOAGD I don't need to worry about twins...thanks both

Minimoo - FWIW (probably not much), I felt fine (mildly nauseous but that's about it, and fairly 'glowy') when pg with ds but was sick as a dog and looked like utter poo when having dd. Having said that, am not being sick this time but still have spots and look like poo....perhaps I'm having a puppy instead?

Psst - Gizmo - wanna come over and watch Dr Who repeats?

Just been to parents evening at school sans dh who was packed off to Athens last minute for work yesterday morning and won't be back until late late late tonight. I should be making dinner for myself but am too tired...think its time for muesli and a bath Wishing you all sweet dreams...

fillybuster · 11/11/2009 21:17

Oops, X post...welcome back Cadmum

Celery · 11/11/2009 21:24

minimoo, fillybuster, I've had two boy pregnancies and one girl pregnancy. I felt okayish during both boy pg - they were identical ( the pregnancies, not the babies!)-. The girl pregnancy, I felt and looked absolutely horrendous for the first 6 months. I'm fairly confident I'm gonna be able to predict the sex of this one, based on my previous pregnancies.

Cadmum · 11/11/2009 22:03

filly: Might I suggest that you are having boy/girl twins instead of a puppy?

I felt like DEATH with dd1 until well past 20 weeks and was mildly ill with ds1, ds2 and dd2. I was convinced of the gender link until dd2 was a girl...

Saucepanman · 11/11/2009 23:09

Cadmum welcome back

Had my dating scan today, I am exactly 10 weeks. My consultant has already booked my section for June 1st, due to my complicated obstetric history. I am still puking for Britain and thoroughly p'd off with it.

Told the children tonight- showed them the scan pic and asked what they thought it was- 4yo dd said "my skirt" you know how the scan cross section is sort of wedge shaped! Then she said "a black hole" and 7yo ds said "the moon". Which they were both over when they worked it out

gizmo · 12/11/2009 08:59

Oh Saucepanman, how sweet! I am really looking forward to telling my boys.

Cadmum · 12/11/2009 10:17

Saucepan Congratulations and lovely story about your dcs reaction.

I am dreading telling anyone in our family... The negative comments started rolling in with #3 so I can only imagine what might be said about #5...

I will wait until well past the 12 week mark to let anyone in on the 'surprise'

ELM · 12/11/2009 10:19

Had my scan yesterday too .. too early for nuchal testing, so another scan booked for 24/11/09.

Only 1 baby (thank goodness!) all looking good so far. Now if I can only stop being so sick....

ELM · 12/11/2009 10:42

NewHere Hope all goes well in your scan tomorrow. Will be thinking of you.

Celery are you feeling any better?

BarackObamasTransitVan · 12/11/2009 10:52

Hi all,
Just stopping by briefly to say that despite my positive scan at the start of last week I started bleeding heavily and finally miscarried on Friday. Had a scan yesterday and thankfully I won't need a D&C or anything (I was pretty confident that I'd passed everything on Friday but my GP wanted me checked out, which was fair enough).
Not really sure how to sign this off, really, other than to wish you all well. See you elsewhere on the boards, too.
