Hello everyone...

Had a positive test this morning, suspect due on 3rd June. Gulp! Very surprised as DD is only 9 months and it took me 2 years to conceive the first time around.

Anyone here to join teh long wait?

Actually, my ds won't yet be 2 when the baby arrives, but at some point I'll have a 4yo a 2yo and a baby.

fillybuster · 09/11/2009 22:55

Whereas my baby turns 2 at the end of January, so will def be 2 in June...but I will only have a 4, 2 and 0 yr old until mid August when ds will be 5 which suddenly sounds less scary ...maybe?

PorridgeBrain · 10/11/2009 09:40

Yikes - just got an invitation through the post inviting me to have the swine flu jab on Friday this week! Will be 9+6 then. Really wasn't expecting to have to think about it this quickly, am still trying to get my head around trying to get to the 12 week mark Have no idea what to do. Has anyone else been offered it this early??

LittleRobbo · 10/11/2009 10:23

gosh porridge that is early isnt it. i havent been offered it yet,if i was i would decline at this stage (dh wants me to have it though) i want to see what happens for a while before i commit.

greensnail · 10/11/2009 10:27

PorridgeBrain - I've heard that a lot of doctors aren't offering it until women are over 12 weeks. I believe the increased risk of complications in with swine flu in pregnancy doesn't occur until later in the pregnancy, and for this reason some doctors are choosing not to take the risk of immunising in the first 12 weeks. If it were me, I would be asking if i could postpone having the jab for a few weeks.

theperfectbaguette · 10/11/2009 11:55

My midwife offered it to me when I went to get booked in (7 1/2 weeks) and I aranged an appointemtnt for the next day. Then I came home had a think about it and decided that I didn't want to do it so early so cancelled it.

theperfectbaguette · 10/11/2009 11:56

spelling!

RnB · 10/11/2009 12:19

I don't think I'll have it either tbh. The thought of having a vaccination while pg freaks me out. Plus I think I had Swine flu in july anyway

GibberingGinger · 10/11/2009 12:53

Am also planning on leaving the swine flu vacine until much later in the pregnancy - not that I've been offered it yet.

Haven't had the energy to post in a while. Am soooooooo tired. And nauseous. And grumpy. Seem to be much more worn down this time than with my last pregnancy. Probably cause I have a 2 yo running around. Am a moany old cow at the moment!

Exciting that we are now getting close to dating scans though! Mine is 1st Dec.

greensnail · 10/11/2009 13:18

Hmm, I'm worried that I'm feeling too well today. Where's my sickness gone???

readysetgo · 10/11/2009 13:37

I'm worried I've not had any sickness yet... only mild nausea every now and then. I'm now 7 + 2, am I unecessarily worrying?!

Very sore boobies though.

HappyAccident · 10/11/2009 13:55

Not everyone gets sickness readysetgo. I had none with either of my two (well, I felt sick for a total of 5 minutes with dd, but that hardly counts!).

I will probably have the swine flu jab, though would like to hold off until after my scan if poss. I am mildly asthmatic too, so really should have it.

Oh fillybuster - your ds is at school already? Piece of piss then .

herewegrow · 10/11/2009 14:16

Readysetgo I'm about the same as you, just over 7 weeks. Was fortunate enough to not have any sickness with my first and am fareing ok this time too, just a bit of nausea but think it's more to do with being ill in general.

HappyAccident I'm asthmatic too and my doc is pushing the seasonal flu jab and swine flu jab (when they get it in...) but I want to hold off until i'm at least 12 weeks. Odd as during my last pregnancy I was advised against having the flu jab

greensnail · 10/11/2009 14:20

I obviously posted too soon, feeling sick again now!

Icanneverthinkofagoodname · 10/11/2009 15:45

Hey I would actually like to have twins. Would mean I did not have to get pregnant again which frankly would be lovely. I do realise it would be hellishly awful to start with but think in the long run it would be great.
Have not been offered the flu jag yet and cant decide what to do about it. Am taking massive doses of vitamin d which is supposed to ward of flu and other such illnesses and also give your baby more protection when newborn. So far so good.
Think people with 2 and 4 year olds already are amazing. My mum had 3 of us under 4 at one point. She had 5 in total so I actually think bigger families are the best but am prob going to be too lazy to have more than 2

Horton · 10/11/2009 15:58

I didn't feel sick last time and am not sick this time. It's just luck, I think, readysetgo. My mum has four kids and never experienced morning sickness.

I am planning to have both the swine flu vaccination and the normal one once I hit the second trimester. I think I had swine flu in the summer but I'm genuinely not sure. I'm asthmatic, too.

minimoonumbertwo · 10/11/2009 16:16

I can see the light!! Haven't posted on here for ages as have been feeling so hellish but sickness has definitely eased to just general waves of nausea as opposed to dashing to the loo every 5 minutes. Am so pleased as finally feel like i can start to enjoy this pregnancy - am 11 weeks tomorrow to so edging ever closer to the magic 12 week mark. So just to give all those of you who are suffering some hope - this too will pass!!

Interesting views on the swine flu jab, I'm struggling ti decide what to do...will watch with interest...

mampam · 10/11/2009 16:58

Hi all. I haven't been on MN for a while as I've really been suffering with sickness. I've been off work now for about 3 weeks (much to the disgust of my boss). Some days I just cannot function, I'm trapped upstairs in my bedroom as to me, the downstairs of my house has a funny smell which I cannot stand and makes the sickness worse.

I've been dehydrated and told I'm not getting enough calories (probably because I cannot hold anything down). I've lost quite a bit of weight too. I can't describe how awful I feel and I know I should be really happy about being pregnant but I just can't focus on that right now.

Tried to have a quick catch up on the last few days and when I had my booking appointment, my midwife asked me if there were twins in my family. There aren't so I don't think it's likely there's two, is there???!!!

gizmo · 10/11/2009 17:44

Thanks for volunteering for the twins INCTOAGN - I'm sure the rest of us are going to be very grateful to you

Sorry to hear more tales of hyperemesis. It sounds utterly grim, Mampam. Hopefully as we approach the end of November things will start to ease up.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm finding this pregnancy harder work than any of my previous four. I think it's probably my age, and I've had nothing but bugs (vomiting, cold, persistent coughs) and injuries (sore back, knocked off bike) since the middle of September and I'm just knackered. It will certainly be easier when I can go public with the pregnancy but I'm not going to be comfortable with that until I've had the nuchal scan, so I shall have to soldier on until the second week in December.

Still , we have a proper long break planned around christmas so I'll make sure we carve some time out of that for sleep, eating and watching as many Doctor Who repeats as my DH will stand.

MrsC09 · 10/11/2009 18:56

Hope everyones feeling ok! Well relatively speaking anyway. I haven't posted in a while either as I've gotten into a habit of going to bed at 8PM every night! Just feel so tired all the time - I honestly don't know how those of you with toddlers are coping!!!

I got my blood test results back today and apparently I'm Rh D negative... anyone else have this? Not sure how rare it is? I'd be gutted if it affected future pregnancies as would love to have 3 (I'm obviously ignoring my previous comment about toddlers during pregnancy ) Has anyone got thi & gone on to have several children?

HappyAccident · 10/11/2009 19:58

There doesn't need to be a history of twins for you to have them mampam - identical twins just happen by chance!

Between you and icntoagn at least the heat's off me for the thread's twins - phew!

icntoagn - you might be too lazy to plan three children, but accidents happen, oh yes they do !

MrsC09 - I'm sure that the midwife will explain this when you see her, but there's normally no reason why the rhesus status would stop you having more children - you will just need a couple of additional injections iirc.

I notice that you mention that you're having a nuchal gizmo. Has everyone made their decisions about what tests to have? I have always refused the triple test, and now that I'm old enough to be offered a nuchal on the NHS, I have turned that down too. It's always very much a personal choice, but I know that first timers in particular don't always give it a lot of thought, and can tend to assume that everyone has everything that is offered, which just isn't true.

PorridgeBrain · 10/11/2009 20:06

Thanks for all your replies re the Swine Flu vaccine.

For those who said they would wait until after 12 weeks, can I ask what the reasons are. Are there suggestions that it is likely to be more risky before the 12 weeks is it just gut feel that the first 12 weeks are generally riskier anyway?

Also, has anyone heard anything about the risk of the vaccine causing a miscarriage? I stumbled across a frightening thread from on a US site where several women were saying they miscarried/still birth 1-3 days after the Vaccine. Typically, I can't find it again but just wondered if anyone has any info on this.

Sorry, not trying to frighten anyone, I just have to make a decision quickly on this. Am wondering if I turn it down whether I will struggle to get an appointment later.

Gosh this is so hard

HappyAccident · 10/11/2009 20:11

For me it's just a gut feel thing. If I had an m/c in the first 12 weeks, and had already had the jab, then I think I would try to blame it, even though it is more likely to be just coincidence.
I would tend to think that what you read might be scaremongering porridge, but since the vaccines can't ethically be tested on pregnant women, who knows? Are they using the same vaccine in the US, or a different one?

greensnail · 11/11/2009 02:49

PorridgeBrain - as far as I know there isn't really any evidence of it causing miscarriage before 12 weeks as it hasn't been trialled on pg women, but as there isn't the data there it seems sensible to me to wait until after 12 weeks when the baby is fully formed.

Really sorry you're having to make this decision so early on, it must be hard for you. Could you phone the surgery and speak to doctor or midwife about it? Maybe try to find out how easy it would be to get it later if you turn it down now. I wouldn't have thought it would be too much of a problem, but i suppose it might be if they only have a limited supply of the vaccine.

Why am i awake now??? I can't sleep, wish i were tucked up in bed. What's the use of having a baby who is finally sleeping through if i can't sleep myself?

minimoonumbertwo · 11/11/2009 10:28

hooray mampam & icntoagn please have the twins for the rest of us! mampam i think they do say that you get sicker with twins so that's maybe why she asked?

greensnail i am with you on the not sleeping, tis so annoying, esp when ds & dh are both in dreamland. Although ds was awake for a bit last night - i look like crap today. In fact I have looked like crap this whole pregnancy so far - has anyone else? Or are you all glowing beautiously?? I just look permanently knackered and just like my skin is a bit dead. Anyone got any wonder products they use to liven the skin up a bit? Think the change in weather/heating on hasn't helped either... oooh don't they say you look more rubbish if you're having a girl?? I would LOVE a little girlie!!!
