Hello everyone...

Had a positive test this morning, suspect due on 3rd June. Gulp! Very surprised as DD is only 9 months and it took me 2 years to conceive the first time around.

Anyone here to join teh long wait?

Oh Beonit I'm so sorry. Look after yourself.

This is my first pregnancy. I thought the hardest bit would be getting up the stick, how wrong I was. Finding myself saying a little prayer everytime I go to the toilet and Im not in the slightest bit religious.

It all just seems so horribly precarious. Madamfreckle and Barack, keeping my fingers crossed for you. Thats pretty harsh Freckle that they wont scan you - why dont you try calling EPU direct.

I'm still bleeding on and off so dont feel out of the woods yet.

Horton · 06/11/2009 12:21

Sorry to hear your news, beonit.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

I was interested to read about people's experiences of home birth earlier. I think I quite like the idea of a home birth and was lucky enough to have a pretty uncomplicated labour last time. The only problem is that DH is convinced it will traumatise DD (who will be getting on for four in June). What happens if I'm in the throes of giving birth and she wants to see me or be with me? What did others do and how did it work out? DD is a particularly mummycentric child. I think either way things are going to be a bit tough for her, whether I'm at hospital or at home.

gizmo · 06/11/2009 12:32

My DS1 was 4 when DS2 born, Horton, and seemed utterly unphased - he spent the last stages of the labour in his bedroom with his dad building the world's biggest lego space ship. He met his brother when DS2 was 10 minutes old and I can still remember his face - it's very precious.

DS1 was also quite 'mummy centric' but I'd spent a lot of time prior to labour explaining that I would probably be a bit wierd and shouty for a little while because having a baby hurts, and that seemed to keep him fairly relaxed. Good job, because I screamed the place down!

Having said that, I know a lot of people just can't relax if their older DC are in the house, and there's lots of discussion on the homebirth site about labours that only really got going when older DC went off to stay with friends/relatives etc. Probably depends on how worried you are about your children's reactions, TBH

herewegrow · 06/11/2009 13:45

fingers cross for you too theperfectbaguette

Horton · 06/11/2009 14:29

Thanks, gizmo. It's all food for thought. I'm not really worried about it, I think DD will accept it much more easily than DH thinks. He is as worried as if it were all likely to happen tomorrow. Men are odd.

gizmo · 06/11/2009 14:32

Oh, bless him: he's probably looking forward to his first opportunity to actually do something practical for your next DC.

Celery · 06/11/2009 14:35

I needed to have the children out of the house when I laboured, and my body duly waited and didn't get going until they were safely with their Grandma, both times.

I had a few pre-labour signs, a couple of days in advance, leaving me plenty of time to arrange for the children to be taken care of - no mean feat as we're on the isle of wight and family are on the mainland! Both times, within an hour or so of the children leaving, my labour got going and the babies were born a few hours later. Then the children were back home within a few hours of the birth.

greensnail · 06/11/2009 15:59

Wow, that sounds very well organised Celery!

I've also been thinking about the birth. I wanted to go to local midwife-led unit last time, but ended up needing to be induced at 36 weeks so that wasn't possible. I know that I'll probably get the same problems as last time, and need to be in the consultant-led unit at the hospital, but part of me is still dreaming of having a less medicalised birth in a more homely environment. I suppose i could still plan to go to the midwife-led unit but obviously plans would have to change if complications develop. I suppose i'll have to discuss it with the midwife at my booking-in appointment.

HappyAccident · 06/11/2009 19:07

Sorry to hear your news beonit.

I'm unlikely to be in a position to have a home birth, as am expecting gestational diabetes and an induction again, although I might fight against the induction if I am managing to control the diabetes well, as it wasn't the greatest success last time.

gizmo · 06/11/2009 20:52

Can someone just hold my hand and make some reassuring noises? Got knocked off my bike this evening by an arsemuncher who didn't even stop. There's miraculously little damage; just a big hole in knee, bruised palms and splendid great swelling on my thigh. However it was a hell of a clout and of course I'm now wondering what it might have done to a pregnancy. Of course it will be fine, won't it?

HappyAccident · 06/11/2009 20:58

It will be fine gizmo - well enclosed and protected in there . But sympathies for knees and hands.

gizmo · 06/11/2009 21:25

It will be, won't it? Just writing it down helps give a sense of proportion, although I'm really angry and irritated about the sense of vulnerability it has woken in me. Most of my journeys are made by bicycle - I can't afford to be afraid while I'm on one.

madamefreckle · 06/11/2009 21:29

So sorry beonit

Ahhhhhh, gizmo, you poor thing. What a distinct lack of manners...the uncooth bully! Littl'un will be fine - amazing protection in there. A number of my friends fell directly on to their bumps with no negative repercussions (except a bit of bruising and the shock of it). Recommend knee pads, or perhaps full body armour the next time you venture out.

Re. homebirth - don't think i could relax knowing the neighbours could prob hear through the wall - some of whom are my pupils. Would be up for it if had a large house and ds could be relatively out of earshot. Just having a little daydream about giving birth out in the wild woods somewhere...it will be June after all. D'you reckon the midwife would be up for that?

No more spotting today - zippety doo da YAY!Living with knicker-fear.

gizmo · 06/11/2009 21:34

'Living with the knicker-fear' Oh MadameFreckle, that's marvellous. I feel sure there's a book in there:

'Living with knicker-fear - an insider's guide to cross dressing'

PorridgeBrain · 07/11/2009 07:55

Mornin' all

Am 9 weeks today - woohoo its gradually getting closer to the 12 week mark!!

Had my booking in appointment yesterday which was fairly non-eventful except for the MW taking 2 attempts to take blood - hate it, hate it!

Have my parents down this weekend and wasn't going to tell them until after the scan but am wavering. Seeing the in-laws next week so could tell them then too. Otherwise we'll be telling them the news at 12 wks on the phone. Then again I don't want to jinx things by telling them early! - hhmm what to do

Hope you all have nice weekends and don't feel too sick. I still have no symptoms which is a double edged sword, its nice not to be ill but also makes me a bit nervous on whether things are progressing.

Saucepanman · 07/11/2009 12:24

Just a quick update-I made it through the supermarket unscathed. Was super sick yesterday though, culminating in a midnight puke before I could get to sleep! Feeling very down today, like I will never feel better again

LittleRobbo · 07/11/2009 21:11

Evening ladies hope everyone is well madamefreckle great stuff

sorry to read your news beonit hope you are being looked after well.

Well, not much to report from me,apart from the fact that i am utterly PISSED OFF!! almost like 3 bouts of pmt all in one go,angry, then sad, then angry, then irritable, then sad again aaaaargh And,i have a coldsore and achy bones.

That is all,thankyou for listening!

JesusChristOtterStar · 07/11/2009 21:14

nuttysquirrel · 07/11/2009 22:55

nuttysquirrel I am so sorry Take care of yourself x

Horton · 08/11/2009 09:38

Good luck for next time, nutty. Sorry to hear the news.

Poor gizmo, that sounds horrible and how vile not to even have stopped. And ow ow ow. If you are worried, you should get it checked out.

Celery, interesting about you having to have other children out of the house before you could get on with giving birth. Our parents aren't near enough to be much help on that front, though perhaps one of my aunts or my brother might be able to help. Maybe I could persuade my mum to come over for a holiday when I am due.

MrsDmamee · 08/11/2009 12:23

Hi all & to all those leaving us, mind yourselves.

has an eventful past few days, went to my gp on friday 1st appointment to sort out what hospital etc....she did the uusal checks and noticed my abdomen was very tender to touch so she sent me straight tot he nearest maternity hospital for a scan incase of ectopic (sp)
so it was a worrying few hours had to drop DS into MIL on the way and tell her there and then what was happening so i would have at least someone thinking and hoping good thoughts for me.
but thankfully baby is ok..in right place heart beating, no explaination for tenderness just maybe 3rd pg everything happens earlier..ligment pains, previous c-section scar stretching.
have spent the rest of this weekend feeling so nausous, all day when i eat and when im hungry, nonstop its just really getting to me and cant get any relief from it.

LittleRobbo · 08/11/2009 15:02

so sorry nuttysquirrel

I have no clue how to amend our list, but would someone kindly remove clairedeloon? i would hate it if she popped onto the thread and saw her name still on,thinking it may be quite upsetting for her.
