Here we go -

Hpoefully in this one we'll all get to feel those kicks and turns if we haven't already, some of us will go for our 20 week scans, and we might get to look preg instead of looking like we've eaten too many cream cakes!

No more scares in this one though please!

what is PBS?

rodeo1 · 10/07/2005 22:49

Aw Busy, sorry to hear you're feeling down I'm sure the feeling will pass. I only seem to get excited when I'm on here talking to you guys! And when you're busy with other children you'd rather just sit in a heap than look through catalogues or name books. Hugs to you anyway x x x

PS I've not bought one thing, not one!

PPS I meant SPD earlier

Oh by the way, for those of you that have got children-I went to asda yesterday and found a brilliant thing! ice lollys that are clear(ie not bright orange/blue etc) and are natural mineral water with flavour, they contain no added sugar and no colourings!
I was so pleased as ds loves ice polls and I give them to him when his teeth are hurting but Im always wary of giving them too often because of all the colourings etc in them and because they make a mess and stain clothing.

They are called calypso Icicles and can be found where you find ice cream wafers+sun lollys etc

They are so nice ive been munching on them too!

babyonboard · 11/07/2005 08:10

hi everyone!
hoping to join in on the fun..I've read through a few posts so have bit of an idea about you guys
i am 21w 1d today with my first tot. My scan is on thursday which i can't wait for, and i hope to find out the sex!
i've had a pretty troublesome pregnancy so far..bad ass morning sickness in the first tri, then a couple of scares, and nasty back and pelvic pain..but have been feeling pretty damn great over the weekend (helped along by my b/f taking me out for lunch twice...ambassador you are really spoiling us! he he)..hope it lasts!
hope you are all well..and i will look forward to checking in and seeing how things are going for you.

Busyalexsmummy · 11/07/2005 08:41

Hi gals

I'm so impressed with you guys working on the nurseries. Our moving date isn't until 30 Sept so I think the nursery will have to wait until after baby arrives as we'll be painting the other rooms, rehanging doors, etc, in the weeks before my due date. One thing I can recommend for nurseries are some stick on wall decorations. They have them at Babies R Us and other shops and catalogues. I like them because they're really easy to apply but make a big difference and they're easy to peel off and change. DS started out with pastel animals, moved on to cars and trucks and is now looking at Spiderman for his next room.

I've bought a few things for the baby but I'm planning to sort through DS's old clothes and re-use whatever I can. One thing I do want to buy is a Moses basket. DS ended up sleeping in our bed (and still does many nights) which was lovely but I can't see four of us squeezing into the bed! I'm hoping a nice, cozy Moses basket will increase the chances of baby wanting to be in her own bed. We just had a cot with Tobes and I think he felt swamped in it. Never really slept in it at all.

I've had a few waves of nausea lately too. I wonder if it's the heat. That seems to really affect me.

Busy, I wouldn't worry to much about feeling detached. I think it's just different when you already have children. I've felt incredibly detached from this pregnancy in comparison to my first. DH and I were talking about some plans in November and we were BOTH saying 'Hmmm, something else is happening in Nov. What is it???' Duh! We're having a baby! Another time DH suggested we surprise my sister in California for Thanksgiving (end of Nov) totally forgetting that we'll have a tiny baby then. I think life can just be very busy and it's natural to feel a bit detached. If you do worry about PND, then let your GP and midwife know your concerns. Then they'll be more vigilant in looking for the warning signs. There's loads of depression in my family and I've suffered with it myself in the past so I've made sure the midwives know and will help me look out for it so I can get help as soon as possible. Hope you're feeling a bit better about it all. Sometimes just a day makes a difference.

BEKs, so impressed with Ben's performance! That sounds fantastic. Since we're going to have to pay for Montessori preschool we've put Jigsaw Arts in the back burner for now but I'm hoping once Toby starts Reception we can sign him up. Sounds fantastic.

Rodeo, love that you're reading to your bump. I did that with DS and sang him songs and I found that he was usually calmed if I read the same stories and sang the same songs after he was born. This time it's even easier since I sing and read to DS every night, baby seems to enjoy it too. She usually starts kicking when I sing, either enjoying the music and tapping her feet or trying to tell me to shut up!

OK, off to see the midwife today and having friends over this afternoon.

Tex - 23 weeks
9.5 sheets of loo roll
OK, off to a midwife appt today.

novadandypowder · 11/07/2005 11:46

rodeo - the car cot can be used until baby is 9kgs, which i think is about 6mths? It can't sit up in it, which i think is supposed to be better for baby anyway, esp. for longer journeys (not that i wish to spend more than an hour in a car with a small baby). This is the system i have ordered - this

Welcome Babyonboard - can we call you Bob or is that too familiar? I read your other posting, and I'm glad everything is ok and you can now join us in the long wait 'til Nov.

DH thinks his wife has been abducted by aliens who have drained all her nice bits and left him with a hot tired grumpy cow. Don't know whats come over me - so far resisting the temptation to blame it on hormones, but might just have to.

novadandypowder · 11/07/2005 11:50

oh and 7 1/2 sheets at 23+2

Busyalexsmummy · 11/07/2005 11:58

This is what we've got, and are reusing for this baby this

KristinaM · 11/07/2005 12:20

Hi everyone, hope you are all feeling better, esp those of you who are sick or fed up.

Busy - tex is totally right about feeling detached in a subsequent pregnancy. Especially if you are feeling cr*p physically or were a bit ambivalent about the pregnncy at first. It doesnt mean you will feel any different towards the baby when its born, honest.

Another vote for wall stickers in the nursery. They only cost about £10 and you can take them off years later and they dont leave a mark. Unless you put them on (unpainted) wooden furniture of course.Do not I repeat NOT put up themed wallpaper, unless you love stripping walls. It will drive you crazy after a few months, they look really busy unless your baby's room is huge and your child will get fed up with Thomas the Tank or Barbie. Just use emulsion & stickers and its easy to repaint when they draw on it!

My other recommendations are a blackout blind ( from Ikea, about £14 I think) and curtains with blackout lining. If you use sheeting its double width so you probably only need one width each side to make really full curtains. Also sheeting is cheaper and comes in lots of fun colours and patterns.

For storage and changing ( for last baby!) we bought a toy box unit from Argos (I think) and its fab. Just plain pine with castors but really solid, takes 3x3plastic storage crates, plenty for toys/books/clothes. I expect you could get baskets to fit if you prefer that look and dont mind your baby eating bits of wicker. Best of all its a great height for changing the baby and big enought for mat, wipes etc on top.

Only other things we have in nursery are wall shelves for book & toys ( painted MDF), wardrobe ( old pine one we already had) ,cot and a chair for feeding.

Looks like white/cream/yellow are THE colours for the fashionable nursery this winter

Nova - your travel system looks lovely - very posh!!!! And tell your DH that you are MUCH less grumpy than all the other November mums so he should put up and shut up and get you some chocolate/flowers etc. The other main reason for grumpiness in pregnancy is not enough rest so get your feet up on the sofa and read a magazine.

KristinaM · 11/07/2005 12:22

OOOOOOh Busy - another designer buggy gal!!!! That looks great - is it easy to use? , Can you tell - I'm needing to buy a new buggy - but a double. Sigh

Busyalexsmummy · 11/07/2005 12:57

KristinaM- ive got a maclaren volo,so i plan to use the volo for ds and the matrix for the new baby when myself and dp are out and about together, he can push one and i can push the other then. but when i am out and about on my own i plan to get one of these(not 100% sure which one yet!)

Hope everyone is well.

Nova - LOL @ your stats. I'm originally from Ladbroke Grove, often go down to Portobello for a taste of nostalgia. I love it.

twinkle1 · 11/07/2005 18:17

evening all,
had a fab day yesterday at best friends wedding. It was a lovely day and i did not have the kids as they were sleeping over at a friends!!!!Back to normal today though,Its just so hot 34 degrees at dinner time and very sticky with no breeze.I can highly recommend sitting in a tepid paddeling pool it is bliss.
Well i go back to the midwife in the morning for my bp check, hope it has gone down as i cannot do bed rest not unless they supply nannies on the NHS!!!!
well hope you are all well (and not to hot!!!)

sarahsausage · 11/07/2005 18:34

Nova, was thinking of getting the loola for baby but decided on this as carseat can lie flat and like a normal one too. Carseat also doubles as carrycot by attaching hood and apron.

Was toying with the idea of a double, dd will be just 25 months when baby is born, but decided if i go out on my own will have dd in her buggy and baby in a sling.

Had a sling with dd used it once and chucked it out, really felt as though my back was going to break. Was one of those that you carry baby on your front. this time around i'm going for a handbag type thing, goes over one shoulder and baby goes inside the bag laid down. Thats if i ever decide to venture out on my own.

20+2 and 9 and a bit sheets of andrex

In my defence was on the larger side before i got pg!

Busyalexsmummy · 11/07/2005 19:05

sarahsausage-i would strongly recommend that when you buy it, get the matrix bit fitted in your car by someone who knows what theyre doing, it can be tricky the first time. also bear in mind that the clips can be left in the car instead of being clipped to the matrix constantly(we only realised this when ds was 2months old!)

BEKsmum · 11/07/2005 19:08

Evening girls, blimey you lot are organised, have you all checked prices on Kiddicare.com, they are generally the cheapest around and do free delivery.

We're going for the Maclaren Techno XT 2005 it's buggy which lies flat, can't be doing with a big pram and a 3 year old, at least with a buggy I can sprint after him if necessary!

Twinkle hope your bp has gone down, mine is coming down slowly but I am trying to get as much rest in the evenings as I can.

Tex can understand about Jigsaw being put on the back burner it is bloody expensive and I was lucky Ben really took part but his little girlfriend sat there witht eh hump the whole way through!

Nova don't worry about being grumpy it's our way of getting back at them for getting us in this mess in the first place, all you need to do now is to plan your revenge for during/after the birth i.e. having nail extensions to dig into his hands or thigh whenever he makes an insensitive comment or getting his legs waxed! or otherwise know exactly what very expensive gift you want when he's feeling guilty for making you go through all that pain.

Busy I agree with the others don't feel guilty about not being so in tune with this one, you've got your hands full already and you just won't have time for the navel gazing we all had last time, I sure as hell know I haven't and if you are worried about postnatal depression just ask I had it for nearly two years so there won't be anything I can't answer !
Will be asking you more about spd by the sounds of it, this is something that really will make me grumpy!

Babyonboard welcome aboard, hope the rest of your pregnancy goes a bit more smoothly

Hope everyne else is well and that those of you suffering from sickness are resting a bit more, it's normally a sure sign that you're not so start taking it easy all and I'll catch up with you all tomorrow Beks

tessasmum · 11/07/2005 19:30

Wow, where did everyone come from??

I'm with Busy on the Jane Matrix. Its been amazing, the car seat is a flat one until the baby starts to complain about wanting to see more and then it can be a sitting up one until about 13kg I think. Tessa is only just over that now at 28 months but we got a bigger seat when she was about 16 months, far later than everyone else so we benefitted from all their research!
As Tessa will be 33 months when the new one arrives we will be reusing the Matrix and getting a buggy board though I do think that we will use the sling a lot too to start with.
Which sling did you have Sarah? We were lent a Tomy one but I lasted one 1/2 hour walk before my back/neck really complained. We then got a Wilkinet(!) one which looks a bit daunting as it is just 2 looooooong straps but was brilliant. Would have used it even more but the weather got better and both you and the baby get pretty warm, should be brilliant for a winter baby.

Twinkle - good luck with BP.

tessasmum · 11/07/2005 19:34

Welcome babyonboard too

rodeo1 · 11/07/2005 19:42

Ooh Tessa, I've got a Wilkinet too and it is brill! Really looking forward to using it again - How sad!!

I'm at work at 8 so better be quick, always have a habit of staying on here much longer than planned!

Getting a small bonus from work today so I'm going to buy a camera. Dp thinks I should get a digital but I prefer 35mm, had an Olympus mju II which was brill but finally conked out due to excessive use. Any ideas anyone??

Nova! Showbiz?? How exciting! Do we know him?? Do we know you?? How brill it would be to have a celeb mum on here! OOh no don't tell us - we'll all be ringing News of the World!

Beks - have to agree about kiddicare - they're brill, how was your bp BTW?

Right must dash or I'll be late again!
