Here we go -

Hpoefully in this one we'll all get to feel those kicks and turns if we haven't already, some of us will go for our 20 week scans, and we might get to look preg instead of looking like we've eaten too many cream cakes!

No more scares in this one though please!

Hello everybody.
Hi Twinkle, looking fwd to the news of your scan. Sounds as if you have a few busy weeks ahead, have fun!

Diege - I love your DDs names! I love Jasmine in particular, I am thinking of Yasmine though. That or Yasmina, are top on our girls names list. I had chosen quite a few but DH, MIL, and my parents didn't seem too keen! As we are a 'multicultural family' I need names that are good for all IYSWIM so we have to be neutral. I also like Ruby and Layla. As for boys names haven't really thought of many as i've convinced myself peanut is a girl - Zain is the one we've all agreed upon though so now i've let my secrets out....

Its gone really dark here!!!!

Was thinking we could start a new thread...what do you say, we're all nearly 20 weeks now aren't we?

10 days until my scan

ChaCha · 04/07/2005 13:48

Sharon...must have been typing as you posted! Congrats on your scan

My dad bought me some maternity wear from mothercare..didn't really like the dungarees but a couple of tops and skirts are fab..

Diege · 04/07/2005 14:38

Chacha - love Yasmina! Also Ruby : this was another favourite, but didn't think we could have Scarlett and Ruby iyswim! Think we are on the save wavelength with names anyway. From my experience, someone will always try to put you off a name (usually a parent!), so you just have to go with what strikes a chord.
Yup, new stream sounds good, as we are all heading towards the belly-busting stage!
Sharon: congrats on the scan. Your bubba sounds really sweet. I'm having a 'surprise' too, but sure it's a girl (yeah!!. The only difference with this pregnancy is that I'm craving savoury things, and have lost my sweet tooth completely (old wives tale that this means a boy..hmmm..)Maybe my body has just had enough sugar!

ChaCha · 04/07/2005 14:51

Was just racking my brains thinking..where have i heard of a Scarlett and Ruby before???
Three guesses..

Diege · 04/07/2005 14:58

God, don't know...am I being really thick...is it rude? Go on, tell..

Diege · 04/07/2005 15:03

Is it a pub?

ChaCha · 04/07/2005 15:18

LOL
Well...kind of....

They were the names of two characters (sisters) in Eastenders...not that i watch it of course...

Diege · 04/07/2005 15:25

Oh god of course!!! And I watch it too! Well, if it's good enough for Eastenders...

novadandypowder · 04/07/2005 17:34

Diege - it is my first baby, and i'm also not working as I gave up both my jobs when i got really sick at 7wks. I therefore have far too much time on my hands, and want to prove to DH that I don't just sit around all day watching TV and reading baby mags (but I do!!!).

Sharon - you're only just buying maternity clothes! very . I can just about fit into some pre-pregnancy combat pants, but i've had to invest in quite a few new bits already. At my last mw appt. i hadn't gained any weight but my bump seems to have shot up in the last couple of weeks.

The women on the december thread are all comparing bumps by measuring themselves with toilet roll. I'm currently 7 squares

so, whats everyone using to try and prevent/combat stretch marks? my nan swears by olive oil, but so far i've been using bio-oil (bottle a bit small for price), some clarins tonic oil stuff (bit smelly) and good old palmers coco butter/ dry skin spray.

rodeo1 · 04/07/2005 21:47

Great news on your scan Sharon!

Nova, 7 squares!! Ahh, you must be very neat, mine measures, bare belly, 7 and a half holding in a bit and 8 letting it all hang out! How big are they all over in December?

Diege and Chacha loving all your girlie names, my dd was going to be Bella Tallulah, but dp wouldn't let me, the git! Agreed on Bella Mae in the end.

Started my low dose aspirin today to help prevent early onset pre-eclampsia which I got in my first pg, but apart from that no news here! DD's 6th birthday tomorrow, she's only just gone to bed she's so excited!

22+5 x x x

Speak to you all tomorrow

Laylasmum · 04/07/2005 21:54

Hello everyone!! I've just got back from holiday so have been trawling htrough all the posts to see how everyone is !.
i'm feeling fine getting bigger now but fat aswell as baby, i've put on about a stone so far!!!
Just a quick one about baby movements. i do feel it move every day but not that often and its really still quite faint ( i'm 23+1 wks)can't remember this stage at all with DD can only remember the first flutters and then the big proper boots later on! Just wondered if this was the same for others too? I'm not concerned really but would like some opinions!!
Rodeo glad your scan was ok was there some 'lovely' people at ante natal clinic with you too ?xxx

Laylasmum · 04/07/2005 21:56

ooh have just seen ChaChas ideas for names!!! Obviously we've already got a Layla but Ruby is my favourite for a girl this time!!! Spooky !!

BEKsmum · 04/07/2005 22:21

Evening girls, Diege, hope I didn't offend you - me & my big mouth did have to lol at the massage parlour and the Thai restaurant though Love the choices for this one though, my friend has a Louis and he's lovely.

All the name choices so far are great, we are a classy bunch aren't we!

Sharon glad the scan went so well, bub sounds gorgeous.

Rodeo, us cancerians don't get any better I've just opened one of my pressies 'cos I couldn't wait till the morning and started on the chocs that were enclosed, wish your little girl a fantastic birthday for me, she must be gorgeous if she shares a b'day with me!

Rodeo, how much aspirn do you take a day then, 'cos being the size of a large semi detached house, they have said that this could happen to me this time and if I can do anything to prevent it, it would be great.

Lol at the toilet roll idea, I don't dare, I don't think they make them long enough! The june thread ran a sweep stake, at a £1 each, perhaps we should pinch there idea a bit nearer the time?

Had a real result for the nursery today, bought a brand new show house pair of fully lined & insulated gingham curtains in yellow for £10, in the local charity shop, they are fantastic and I need help to hang them cos they are so heavy!!!

Laylasmum, my kicks only really happen when I'm eating or resting and are all still very low down so not overly strong, but if you're worried speak to your midwife, she'll tell you if it's normal or not.

Right off to bed so that I can get up & open my pressies, speak to you all tomorrow! Beks 21+1

rodeo1 · 04/07/2005 22:38

Beks, I'm taking 75mg which is a quarter of a normal tablet. I rang up Action on Pre-Eclampsia for current advice (they've got a website), and my consultant agreed it was a good idea, she didn't give me a prescription so I should have seen my doctor but haven't got round to it. So bought a box from the co-op today for 23p and I'm quartering them myself! No expense spared!

Laylasmum, was thinking of you earlier wondering where you'd gone - didn't know you'd disappeared off on holiday. LOL at the 'lovely' people!! !! Yes, definitely did see lots of 'lovely' people at antenatal clinic! Wonder if we could wangle a side room??

yingers74 · 05/07/2005 09:52

morning all, had scan yesterday which went well despite the hour wait! am having a girl, was happy as wanted another girl but also a little sad to know that I will not have a son as I don't plan to have anymore kiddies - but then again never say never! Am 22 weeks and 4 days.

hope you are all good and good luck with scans etc.

BEKsmum · 05/07/2005 10:27

Morning all, thanks for the b'day wishes.

Yingers congratulations on your scan news, how lovely, wow, never say never is a brave statement!

Twinkle, glad the scan went well how lovely to see so much detail. I take it you didn't find out the sex? Has your BP gone through the roof because of the attack or is it baby related do you think? I too suffer from high BP but have managed to get it down a bit now, so hopefully it will stablise, my mum keeps telling me they'll take me in for bed rest if I'm not careful, how much rest would we get if we were in hospital, we'd just be worrying about the kids all the time.
They may prescribe you with tablets, which my dr said would be ok after 16 weeks as the baby is fully formed as such and is now only really growing rather than developing any key parts.

Writing this I've just realised that I missed my blood pressure appointment yesterday & have had to grovel to the dr's to get another one - I'm sure my brain is turning to mush!

Enthusia & LilJ hope your scans go well today & Busy hope yours went well yesterday, looking ofrward to hearing about them all.

Speak to you all alter Beks 21+2

novadandypowder · 05/07/2005 12:16

Rodeo - the mums over in december seem to be over 8 squares already, and they are a month behind us, so i think we're doing ok. I think you're due about the same time as me, 5th nov?

ChaCha - i had a VERY hard time giving up work. During the week i was working for a childrens TV company, very busy, lots to do, very creative. Was thinking of changing career eventually but was a bit shocked when it came to an abrupt halt. I worked on short term contracts and one had just ended when i found out i was pregnant so i didn't re-new it, as they have a policy where if you're off sick for more than 5 days your contract is cancelled (thats TV for you). At the weekends i taught pole dancing classes and that was really hard to give up because i loved it so much. I lasted until 6wks pg but after that the sickness took over and i still haven't got my physical strength fully back. The things i found the hardest were (and don't forget this was coupled with sickness):
not socialising every day with other people
getting out of the house
loss of physical activity
having something interesting to talk to DH about
feeling guilty about spending money as i wasn't earning any more
feeling worthless and resentful of the sudden changes

I'm now beginning to settle into it, I've done some freelance days for the TV co. i used to work for and was very glad that i'd left. Now i'm feeling a bit better i'm training next week to be a volunteer at the local animal home so i can get out and do something useful. However, the dancing is going to have to wait until baby arrives (have pole at home so will hopefully be able to train up again). Lots of people have told me to enjoy the time off as, although it feels like forever now, once the baby arrives i'll miss it, but i do try to give myself tasks every day otherwise i'd just veg out and do nothing.

dramaqueen72 · 05/07/2005 12:29

sorry sorry -gate crashing your thread a moment, from due in dec (yes its me whos over eight squares btw! but this is my fourth so am allowed no tummy muscles whatsoever)just wanted to shout out hello to YINGERS who was on my ttc after m/c threads with me and wish her very well. a girl yingers! how lovely hope youre well.

novadandypowder · 05/07/2005 12:59

another question (and then i'm going to make some lunch) - have you had any thoughts about having a Scorpio baby? Im not that into horoscopes etc.. but i do think the personality bit of your star sign is quite acurate. My sister and I are both scorpios and we were right cows as children. I have a lot of scorpios in my family actually (must be suckers for valentines day - damn Agent Provocateur).

I really must get out more...

LilJ · 05/07/2005 14:01

Had my scan which was great fun! Chip or Chipolina was moving around loads having a grand old time. All's well except my placenta is too near the cervix so I have to go back at 34 weeks to see if it has moved. My hospital doesn't let you know sex, but doesn't matter as we definitely want a surprise - but I'm sure I saw bits ...

My bump is a full 8 sheets of tp, and judging by others who have measured I'm not overly huge - I was getting a bit worried as every one keeps on saying I'm enormous and growing every day. Baby has started to move around quite a bit which is a slightly bizarre feeling, but I'm really beginning to feel connnected with him/her and occassionally talk to him/her at work - my co-workers must think I'm insane!

Had a slight hormonal attack just before scan when DH (or not so D at the time) started to give me sh*t about my parking. I burst into tears and started blubbering about how this was supposed to be such a wonderful moment for us and he was ruining it. Ahhhh the wonders of being pregnant and able to cry with hardly any provocation.

ChaCha · 05/07/2005 16:25

LOL @ Lilj's hormonal moment!!! Oh yes, very familiar scenario indeed, heee heeee!
Glad all is well.

Yingers nice to see you, don't see much of you on here and congrats Twinkle on good news.

No signs of Busy? She hasn't posted for ages, last i heard am sure she was away for weekend in Devon..hmmm, do hope all is well.

Nova - pole dancing classes, wow!!!!
