Pavlov got my Moses basket second hand, think it was £10 with a stand from a chairty shop. Sheets and blankets - we've got ours from Matalan, they're nice quality, but not too priecy Breast pump - I bought a second hand one and just got new tubes for it. Had only been used ones (the woman I bought it from had twins and found it impossible!) and is in lovely condition.

Tamlin non-bio

Koumak · 25/09/2009 20:39

Non-bio I think. I use Filetti for newborn and fairy for ds. He used to have eczema but is ok now.

Broodzilla that is very neat bump. Mine is at least twice as big! I will try to add a picture at the weekend if I remember? might have to put that on the list to do!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 20:40

I did think of second hand but, not being able to find them for less than £20, so with a new mattress being a tenner, its only 9.99 less than brand new so i thought might as well...oh i don't know if there is a matalan near here? Shall go take a look...thanks erica

Koumak · 25/09/2009 20:48

xposted with Pavlov and Erika at least we all agree on non-bio!

I never had moses basket for ds and not getting one now. We had and will use again the Stokke cot (the mini to start with) in the bedroom and used the buggy's carrycot around the house if he felt asleep in it when we were out etc. otherwise I just put him in one of those bouncy chairs, bean bag etc.

Ds loved his Stokke cot though. He slept through the night at 7 weeks but he was a big baby which makes it easier as they feed well during the day.

Koumak · 25/09/2009 20:49

well that link didnt work
try this www.stokke-nursery.com/en-gb/stokke-sleepi-crib.aspx

Koumak · 25/09/2009 20:52

Sheets I buy from John Lewis as they are very soft and last forever even with boilwash! I found Mothercare and others go grey and lumpy etc. Blankets from White Co as they are so pretty and soft!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 20:55

Oh i love the stokke cots! they are bit pricey for me though and we have a cot already. Also, as we live in a flat, not ideal for sleeping in a carry cot as we will have to lug it up stairs.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 20:58

oh and I cannot remember - are cot blankets too big to swaddle with? It seems daft to buy loads of them for moses basket if he is not in it for that long...

Koumak · 25/09/2009 21:05

I dont know I think they might be. Could you try using muslin or something similar? I didnt really swaddle ds so not sure.

Koumak · 25/09/2009 21:11

The Stokke is rather pricey but next to the buggy it was really the only thing we bought for ds (as had loads of stuff second hand) so could justify that. And also because you can add all those various extensions it goes forever! Ooh, and dh bought me the Stokke changing table once we moved into 2 bedroom flat and it was a godsend. I still use it now! Ds could've easily stayed in the junior bed but since we moved he went to single bed so he didnt feel robbed when lo arrives.

Ninjacat · 25/09/2009 21:26

When I had ds 12 years ago swaddeling was a nono. I asked mw about it this time and she said you just have to make sure it's a very light material like a muslin.

Laugs thank you.

LissyGlitter · 25/09/2009 21:27

Spent the day wandering around Newcastle centre (I may have even seen Whizzy, we should wear badges or something!) finding ingredients so DP could cook us Gumbo and cornbread tonight (he lived in New Orleans for a year, before I met him). I am currently munching on cornbread (very nice, quite cake-like) and waiting for Gumbo to be ready.

Benn having lots of strong BH tonight though, and the odd stabbing bump pain. Pretty sure the baby has dropped, I'm not as out of breath and i have a proper waddle! I'm also feeling weird, in a kind of unspecified way. I hope this is not baby thinking of making an early appearance...her big sister came at 36 weeks, and that was a bit of a problem, although she turned out fine. I'm 32 weeks now.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 21:42

ninja i swaddled dd and used light material, just could not remember the size of it! i shall get some large muslin cloths, thats a good idea! DD loved it but we had to stop it quite quickly on account of having a heatwave that year!

I have bought the moses basket, and rocking cradle, dh really wanted that and it wa £9.99 so i let him, although i have heard that rocking is not ideal as they get used to sleeping to the rocking motion.

And I have just bought to bnwt snowsuits - one is jasper conran, and one is M&S, £2.50 and £5.50 . So I am getting there. The baby has no bedroom, but has something to sleep in, and will not get cold now

lissy fingers crossed it is not early labour. Make sure you rest a lot.

hobnob57 · 25/09/2009 22:05

I started off with a tommee tippee manual breast pump last time and moved on to an electric Medela one after a friend told me how much of a godsend they were, and it made life so much easier (and expressing so much more successful).

I still have the tommee tippee one if anyone is interested, although I lent it to my sister in Spain who used it only a few times but the water over there stains things a bit orangey so the breast cup bit is a tad off-colour. Still works fine though!

I've invested in a medela swing pump off ebay this time around. It's much quieter than the mini and apparently does all the adjustments to suction frequency, etc. automatically instead of having to manually twist knobs. My old pump got knocked over so many times doing that that it got milk in the motor and gave up the ghost!

Moses basket - I didn't get one 'cos we had the detachable carrycot bit for the pram for downstairs and a relative lent us a rocking crib for beside our bed so we didn't need a portable sleeping device!

Blankets - I (tried to) swaddled DD in Dec in a fluffy cellular blanket. I was never fearful of her being too hot up here in mid winter

Well, my sleepy day off turned into a bit of an expedition to my nearest town, just so I could experience the joys of browsing at leisure without a toddler. I came away with a very random bunch of stuff: scrubbing brushes, a plastic tub for cheese in the fridge, cable ties for nailing above skirting boards, a bag of chocolate santas for DD's stocking (!), a packet of nice biscuits, a birthday present and cards (most useful) and a M&S lasagne for tea. Shame none of it was Xmas shopping-worthy or remotely baby-related .

So now I'm knackered again.

Fruitpastels · 25/09/2009 22:06

Lissy Maybe you have overdone things today. I find drinking more fluid helps my BH's and an early night.

Thank you ladies for the advice on exercise for breech babies. Ursi I think the breech tilt lift is what you were advising. I am trying it out in a moment, safer to do when DH is here to make sure I stay balanced. Im going to try everything I can! Im seeing the midwife next wk and if baby is still breech she wil send me for a scan, then I guess they will talk ECV with me.

Pav I'm sorry you've felt so rough. Hope this evening you are feeling much better. I also don't know what to go for on the breast pump. The electric are so expensive. I had a hand pump and couldn't get on with it, breast feeding was a nightmare with DS so I gave up very quickly. I intend to give it my best shot this time.

Tamlin Hope the sewage problem gets sorted ASAP! Sounds a nightmare.

hobnob57 · 25/09/2009 22:07

tamlin I hope your DH is persistent and gets this sorted. I'd go spare if sewage came into my hosue!

maman2tom · 26/09/2009 07:14

This thread moves so quickly i'm definetely lagging behind! I can really sympathise for all of you with breech babies DS1 was breech and this time round i've been researching "how to turn baby" since before conception Had an ECV last time round mine didnt work but worth giving it a go as it wasnt a nightmare at all - a bit uncomfortable at most. Acupuncture is supposed to be really effective. I used the position lying on your back with hips raised really high a website suggested propping the ironing board on to the sofa and lying on it but I just used cushions (was a bit worried about breaking the ironing board due to my hefalump size) Not very comfy but this baby has turned so i think it was worth it. Oh forgot the best tip from an american website was to play music to the baby in this position by putting an ipod in you knickers Crossing my fingers for everyone

Fruitpastels · 26/09/2009 08:05

The breech tilt was uncomfotable with the ironing board, so I ended up using loads of pillows and DH helped position me safely. Don't think baby got the idea though so I will keep trying 2-3 times a day, along with my crawling, not easy when you have wooden floors. I read about the music in your knickers tip, don't think I want to try that!

Had a sleepless night with DS. I think he is getting sick with a cold. Dosed him up on calpol and he is still sleeping. Waiting to see how he feels this morning. I could have slept for England last night but spent most of the early hours listening out for DS and worrying about him.

To take my mind off the breech issue, which I feel is taking over my thoughts rather alot at the moment, I started organising my hospital bag, so half packed now. The nursery is also taking shape, just need some man power from DH to shift a few things around.

Hope the sun is shining for you all today.

Lissy hope your pains have eased off now. Know what you mean about wondering if you've seen people - we should all get flashing badges to wear out saying "I'M ON MUMSNET", would make life a lot easier

Hobnob your shopping list made me giggle - it will all be helpful though!! Have opted for the Swing as well - is a scary lookiong contraption!!!

Maman we are a rather talkative bunch Loving the i-pod in the knickers suggestion, don't think I'll be trying it though!!!

Fruitpastels I hope your DS feels better soon.

Pavlov, how are you doing now?

Am feeling a little better - finally managed to eat last night, and wasn't feeling too guilty. No phone calls from the company since Mum spoke to them, but know its just a matter of time.

Ordered a spare V shaped pillow off Amazon last night to help at DP's, save me carting one over every time!

DP has been feeling crappy since Wednesday so am not seeing him this weekend Need to find some things to occupy me as was really needing a hug!!!!

Hope you're all well. x

BeckyBendyLegs · 26/09/2009 10:23

My God you lot! I don't check for 24 hours and talk about virtual verbal trots!!!!

Pav poor, poor you I do hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Beepbeep you too - hope you are feeling less sicky today.

Erika I'd give you a hug if I could - only a virtual one though I'm afraid.

Fruitpastels hope your DS is ok - I've had a perma-cold for three weeks now! It is that time of year I think.

I'm sitting here watching Saturday Kitchen and doing a bit of work as DH has taken the DSs to the cinema. It is DS2's first ever trip to the cinema. I vividly remember mine: Pinnochio. I cried buckets!

Laugs · 26/09/2009 10:33

erika (here's a hug ) Hope you can relax a bit this weekend. Even evil credit companies surely don't ring people over the weekend. By Monday they should have received the letter from your therapist and will back off if they have any sense.

pavlov I was given a blanket from Gap which said it was for swaddling. I never used it for that, but it was a stretchy jersey, rather than very light muslin. Maybe it depends on the time of year, like togs on duvets? Or maybe Gap got it wrong. Anyway, it was about the size of a normal cot blanket.

We had an electric pump, but I could never get on with it. I don't know if it didn't work very well as it was secondhand, or if my boobs just don't put out for noisy electrical contraptions. I always had loads of milk for DD, but could never manage more than 2oz with the pump, and that took me 45 mins. I don't know if I'll even bother trying again TBH.

Trikken · 26/09/2009 10:55

BBL I remember my first film too. Aladdin. loved it, still do but unfortunately ds will not watch it for some reason.

had to wake dh up again last night to rub my back as had trapped wind again. tho he wasnt very sympathetic. it was one in the morning i suppose.

MW talked a lot about skin-to-skin contact with baby after the birth, yesterday at my appt. all i keep thinking is "I will be naked." I know it has really good benefits for baby and mother, but cant get the thought of being naked and having people see me in all my glory at a very vunerable time out of my head.

Laugs · 26/09/2009 11:06

BBL let us know how DS enjoys it. I've been wondering when DD will be old enough for the cinema. Haven't been in ages!

trikken can you get a nightie that will button down to allow your baby to be on your skin without exposing the rest of you to the world? It wouldn't really need to button down that far as babies are pretty small. There's no point in forcing yourself into a position you feel uncomfortable with as the baby might pick up on your discomfort anyway. You can always give loads of skin-to-skin contact a day or so later in your own home.

BeckyBendyLegs · 26/09/2009 12:02

DH has just phoned, apparently DS2, who is 3 1/2 loved the film but DS1, who is nearly 6 was really restless and half way through asked 'is it near the end yet?'. DS1 takes after me; he finds it hard to just sit and watch TV or a film without having something else to do. DS2 takes after DH: he will sit and watch any old crap!

Trikken · 26/09/2009 12:03

thats is a good idea Laugs, i only have long t-shirts packed so will ask my mother to look for something suitable as she is always popping into Poole to do some shopping, that way if i feel it is something i want to do i will have something to wear.
