Koumak just for you www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/09/23/2694755.htm

Have just been advised lemon juice for heartburn.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 08:40

fruitpastels baby is breech here too. He was the right way for a long long time. I knew he turned, felt him do it over the last couple of weeks, I had wondered what on earth was going on in there! I am 32+2, and have been told as you, plenty of time, and like you I am panicking too. DH said 'oh you might get to have a c-section that will be easier for you won't it?' I resisted the urge to slap him very hard! I have also heard, from the ladies here mostly! that all fours and bum wiggling works. So I am trying it see what happens.

BBL and all the other talking about bf and cracked nipples. I found Lanisohl great, and also a helpful midwife who helped me establish a good latch. I also found spending a forced week in hospital excellent as I took full advantage of that little red button to get some help every time I could not do it! I found it stressful at first to feed when someone was there visiting, other than DH and it did not help at all that the room was boiling hot as we were having a heatwave - visitors, sweating and stress and a very hungry newborn not a great combination!

Koumack - Have you seen your mw or gp about the leakage? I only say that as I have had a little more recently, and I have, it turns out, a UTI, with the smelliness and all. Apparantly you do not always get other symptoms straight away/at all so might be worth checking out, and if it is suspected amniotic fluid they can look into that quickly too.

Birth stories - i love them! I am nervous this time of having a bigger baby, in particular that his head is currently on the larger size. Last time I had a good birth I think, 18 hours from waking to find my waters broken (thought I was weeing myself!) to DD arriving, braxton hicks contractions from 5:30am until 1pm only then did it start getting painful and DD arrived at 11:47pm. No epidural, but needed one afterwards to remove placenta which I was most annoyed about! Apparently I only swore once, and that was to say 'fucking hell' when the ventouse went on as DD got stuck! And I spoke to her lots encouraging her!

Still being sick, think the HE has returned . Not sure if I should go along to see gp today and check ketones as they were +++ on wednesday and I am not keeping much down, wee is dark. But I am not keen on going to hosp for a drip .

Ninjacat · 25/09/2009 08:50

Oh dear Pavlov you have been having a rough time of it. Are you able to keep your ab's down?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 09:14

Yes, luckily. I vomitted one lot up and spoke to pharmacist who said take another straight away. He said one taken like this is fine, but if it happened again I would need more antibiotics from gp. Luckily it has not happened. Although I have not taken then this morning yet as I know they will make the return journey.

I sort of think its par for the course for this pg now ninja and I fully anticipate breech baby not turning, c-section being needed and him arriving early to boot. It seems to be that way this time. I have resigned myself to my fate and am praying for a baby that just wants to be out with his mama and will be happy when he is here!

ursigurke · 25/09/2009 09:17

Pavlov, I hope you are feeling better soon. You really went through lots of troubles already but in a couple of weeks you will have forgotten all of it and hold a lovely baby in your arms.
fruitpastels, I've heard many times that being on all fours as much as possible is important (even better, when you are not on your hands but on your elbows). Once a pregnancy yoga teacher showed a position to a woman with breech position and I know in German it is called something like "indian bridge", I have no idea of the English term. I'll try to explain but you might need to google it: your hips and pelvis should be higher then the rest of your body, so you could lie on a board or on lots of cushions and pillows. your legs (from the knees on) are supposed to hang down (as well as your upper body) so you are actually making a hollow back. Does that make sense? Apparently it is rather uncomfortable and it might happen that the big vein will be blocked. So if you get dizzy you have to turn back and I guess it is always better to have someone else in the room.
I think in this position it is likely that the child slips out of your pelvis and can turn easier, especially if you go on all fours afterwards.
Good luck with it anyway to all of you with breech babies.

Koumak · 25/09/2009 09:37

Morning all!

Thanks Ninja! Wow how can you NOT know that the baby is going to be ?slightly? larger? No need for newborn clothes then. Straight to 9 months or 6-12 if it?s Gap or 12months if Petit Bateau. The sizes are doing my head in! I was sorting out some old clothes into boxes the other day and I am sure when it comes to actually wearing it thought the stages I will find things that don?t fit any more!

Pavlov poor you. You really have suffered enough! Thanks for your info. I have just read all about it! The thing is I only saw MW last Saturday and she tested the urine and did swab as I had thrush again so it should?ve been picked up then no? I am seeing GP next Tuesday so will ask. Also going to hospital for the one day NHS birth class tomorrow with dh so might pop in to see mw and ask about the test results then. If I remember?.

I tell you I have sooooooooo many lists running at the moment! I think I need one just to remember where and what?s on the others!

I am actually looking forward to the class, not that I expect much (wont make friends as they will be from all over London, and doubt MW will have time to cover much in one day) but at lease I get to spent some time with dh alone if just being together on the tube and having lunch half way through the course! It?s the little things that count hey?

Breech babies - ds was breech for very long time and the night before I went to chose a date for elective caesarean dh went out with the boys and I sat at home feeling very sorry myself so treated myself to some chick DVD and a big pot of Haagen Dazs Belgian Chocolate. Went to bed feeling very sick? As soon as the mw saw me in the morning she said that?s funny you don?t look breech anymore! I told her how sick I felt at night and she said that was because he moved! And it turns out that the sugar rush must?ve made him more active or something and he did turn! So had to wait 3 more weeks to meet him!

Koumak · 25/09/2009 09:42

That's through the stages and at least not lease. I give up.

Bring on the ice cream! I cannot be thinking about that sort of food 20mins after breakfast or can I?

skorpion · 25/09/2009 09:54

Morning all!

I wonder if 'downward dog' from yoga would be good for getting the baby to turn? Your pelvis is way up in that position.

skorpion · 25/09/2009 09:57

Mind you, not sure it wouldn't make you throw up if you're suffering already - I'd probably ask somebody first.

katster37 · 25/09/2009 09:58

Pavlov sorry you are feeling so rubbish - you really are having a rough time at the min...

Laugs and Trikken thanks for sharing your vomit/pee stories - it honestly does make me feel less of a fraud! I am sure that is what happened, now I think - esp as I had been bursting for a wee anyway, it must have just come out But I will not be sharing that with anyone else... STill not heard from the hospital anyway.

Koumak I am with you on the lists... But they never get any shorter.... I am seriously wondering how anyone is ever ready for the baby to actually arrive...

Grrrrr baby is hiccuping AGAIN. He was hiccuping yesterday evening, yesterday late evning, last night, early this morning, and now. WHat is wrong with him???? Seriously, I am getting concerned now! Although all the MWs ever say is that it is normal ???

skorpion · 25/09/2009 10:05

katster don't worry. I read somewhere that it's absolutely normal for them to have hiccups. Something to do with them learning to swallow or breathe. Excercising their diaphragm. Must be irritating to have your bump jump all the time though

lemontop · 25/09/2009 10:05

ninja that big baby story terrifies me and makes me very very glad to have my diabetes under control!

pavlov sorry you're feeling so ill again. What an awful time you've had. Hopefully it'll be worth it when you meet your little one.

katster thanks for iron info. I am pretty sure I vomited and peed as a result one. You'll get your swab results soon at least.

Maternity leave is good so far. I'm meeting a friend later and the house has never looked cleaner. I've also invested in a new game for the xbox that I'm going to enjoy playing while I have the chance (I'm so sad!). Washed the baby clothes for my hospital bag yesterday. I couldn't believe how teeny they look on the washing line!

Pinkcaz · 25/09/2009 10:08

Good Morning Ladies,

I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well Pavlov I really hope you feel better soon!

I have to agree about the lists comment lol - I was running through my head in bed this morning about all the lists just for hospital and thought 'oh NO! I haven't a list for my Mum's bag!!' She is going to be my birth partner and I just know how she will be without a crossword and some snacks lol so now that's My list = Hospital, Baby List - Hospital and Mum List - Hospital, not forgetting all the other lists for home, car and my mums house!! I think a list for the lists is a fabulous idea

I am also still waiting to see if my little bump is still breach as was at 32 Weeks, and I must admit at this stage sitting with a huge tub of ice-creams seems the perfect thing to try... not sure if I got down on the floor to do the wiggles I would be able to get back up again lol!

Take care all and enjoy that FRIDAY Feeling

x

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 10:20

just vomitted a ton of blood luckily have Dr appt in half hour. I thought my head was going to explode it was so violent, really I did think something major might burst like my eyes .

Koumak · 25/09/2009 10:39

What? Dont wait half an hour get yourself there right now! Oh Pavlov what is happening?

skorpion · 25/09/2009 10:40

Oh, pavlov, so sorry to hear that you're still suffering. That must have been awful! Get yourself to the GP and checked out. Is your DH at home to look after you?

Koumak · 25/09/2009 10:42

I just realised that it's probably not very helpful telling you 20mins later...

Broodzilla · 25/09/2009 10:47

Oh dear, Pavlov just wanted to say thinking of you! That must have been so scary! I agree with Koumak (although I guess by now you'd be on your way anyway...) Good luck!

ErikaMaye · 25/09/2009 11:19

Pavlov hope everythings okay, that sounds horrible Thinking of you.

Easyeggs congratulations to your cousin

Hope you're all generally okay, am having a really rough time here at the moment, so please forgive me for not reading through everything

Ninjacat · 25/09/2009 11:42

Pavlov I was just nipping on to say they had us crawling in Yoga yesterday (just like babies) and apperently that is quite good for turning babies. But sounds like you have bigger issues at the moment. I hope everything is ok.

In desperation I drank the Lemon juice last night. Owww I quickly followed it with some Gaviscon, the pain was pretty awful but touch wood I think it's made a bit of a difference.

I dropped a book on my toe this morning and howeled with the pain - how will I ever cope with labour?

Sorry Erika things are tough at the mo.

Dp here is a bit blue and has turned down his lecturing post at the last second due to a complete failing of confidence. Unfortunately it was a friend of ours who put him forward so I'm feeling mortified and embarassed even though I know it wasn't worth the stress he has been putting himself under to do it. He has bought himself some St Johns Wort so obviously he recognises there is an issue which I suppose is a positive but I'm not very good at being supportive when I know he is a very talented teacher. It won't make a huge difference money wise but I hate letting people down. But maybe it's dp I'm letting down by not supporting his decision about what's best for him? (I'm good at encouragement but flogged that horse to death)

Ninjacat · 25/09/2009 11:43

Sorry I didn't mean to rant then, and as a dyslexic without spell check on this computer I doubt I even made any sense.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 12:06

ok panic over. I have torn the lining of my stomach due to excess acid/violent vomiting which in turn is likely part of this uti thing. (also been told abs can cause blood in vomit as harsh on stomach). Been given suppository anti-emetics and some acid reducing drugs to help keep acid levels down in stomach, give it a chance to heal. I am so pleased it is nothing more serious. I did panic a lot bit there.

Ninjacat · 25/09/2009 12:16

Pav glad you are ok. Rest and take care of yourself.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/09/2009 12:22

Ninja - meant to say i shall practice crawling like a baby when I feel better! try to get this baby turned!

hobnob57 · 25/09/2009 12:26

Hi all, gosh we have been chatty!

fruitp & pav my DD was flipping up and down between breech and normal position (but always normal at the midwife ) right up until about 38 weeks. I went to pg yoga and the teacher told me about a reflexology point for turning babies, and it always worked (but she didn't necessarily stay turned!). If you press down hard on the very outside of your wee toe & firmly massage it, it should turn them. Be aware though that if LO doesn't turn, there may well be a good reason for it like cord around the neck so don't get too upset if things don't change.

pav I hope that you're ok! I was about to tell you to go to mw and get your ketones tested when I read your most recent post. Fingers crossed for you.

Nipples - I'm afraid I happen to be one of those annoying women who never got sore nipples with BF (apart from when the teeth came in ). I don't know why, because BF was a real struggel for me for the 1st 6 weeks until I finally felt a let-down . DD lost too much weight initially and I got hounded by the MW's scales on a daily basis for weeks and was feeding, expressing, topping up, sterilising, feeding, etc. on a never-ending cycle for weeks. It was only when I gave up the expressing after feeds and I was able to relax a little that things started improving. DD had quite a good latch I think, but was never very efficient at getting milk somehow. Whether this was her, or me having had an emcs after after a failed induction and on painkillers, I don't know. I guess I'll learn a bit more from this LO!

I have no tips for labour after my last experience, I'm only hoping for a spontaneous one like you 1st timers this time! I didn't start my labour-inducing programme until 40 weeks last time (sex, nipple twiddling, hot baths, gin (and I'm not a drinker!), curries, laxatives, long walks despite SPD, keeping upright all day, scrubbing kitchen floor, going swimming despite SPD, etc.) but I think I'll start some of it at 37 weeks this time!

I MUST make sure I have my brain (aka notepad & pen) beside me when I come on MN to help with these lists. I'm getting to the stage where I want to write one which is a good sign. Maybe this weekend is the weekend I begin to pack my bag .

I was SOOO tired last night and bump was really swollen and uncomfortable. I haven't been getting to bed very early this week and fell asleep during Watchdog. I made it up to bed at 11 and slept right through 'till 8:30 this morning. I'm still pretty weary, but bump is feeling a whole lot better after I gave birth to the mother of all poos earlier on (sorry if TMI!). I think I was just too tired and missed my daily visit yesterday! I am a bit worried re. my fluid levels as I still don't have a lot of discharge, my wee is rarely dilute-looking and I still haven't needed to visit the loo during the night (maybe I'm just sleeping too deeply?). I drink a litre bottle of water at work, plus 2-3 cups decaf tea, a decaf coffee when I get home and a glass of water or two in the evening. It seems like enough to me?
