IDOB, that's good news, so glad you saw a different and more sympathetic midwife, it makes such a huge difference.

Well, the shower seems to have killed it all off, although now I've sat down again, things feel a little bit weird Have a feeling there'll be no queue jumping for a few days...nice to be able to keep you lot on your toes for a change!

Gruff, sorry to hear you're having a tough time, there's always FB if here's not the right place? As IDOB says, I simply can't believe GC is 6 months old - where on earth has all that time gone?

Can't - IDOB's description of packing is just like mine, I'm utterly rubbish! I keep asking DH to repack my labour bag for me, because by the time I get to the end, I can't remember what I've put in, or where I've put it.

SST, glad to see you're still lurking, hope all is well with you all.

Labour vibes, labour vibes, labour vibes...and relax

essenceofSES · 07/10/2009 16:56

STT - v excited for you! Good luck

Gruff - sorry you're having a tough time. As Star says, feel free to vent or let me know if I can do anything. GC sounds a star with his crawling!

I've just spent last 75mins in the bedroom with O trying to get him to nap without using me as a comforter. I first fed him from both sides then cuddled him over my shoulder then put him in his cot. He got distracted trying to put both big ties in his mouth so then I put his Gro-bag on him and fed him again. As he got sleepy I took him off and put him on his cot mattress. Cue big screams of frustration that a) he couldn't play with his feet and b) he wasn't getting any boob. Well it took half an hour of him crying and me stroking his tummy and singing but he's now been asleep for 40mins! Long may it continue!!

essenceofSES · 07/10/2009 17:02

IDOB - glad MW appointment was better and yes, you'll have her in your arms soon!

Can't - good luck with the packing.

Sorry for bitty posts but laptop busted so posting via phone.

Starshinetiger · 07/10/2009 17:04

Ses - yay for O that he self-settled! Hope this is the start of some good sleep.

Starshinetiger · 07/10/2009 17:05

oh yes, forgot to say - glad you had a better mw appt IDOB. Is all that farming not kickstarting labour?!

tinkbig · 07/10/2009 18:30

essenceofSES · 07/10/2009 18:43

Hi tink! Thanks! He's still asleep!!! 2hrs 25mins and counting! He's thrown my planned routine out
Rain awful here too.

Kayzr · 07/10/2009 19:12

Hi.

Feeling awful here. I got sent home from work today as I feel really sick. I am actually a bit pissed off as everytime I leg it to the toilet I start to feel better.

STT and IDOB, hope the babies make an appearance soon. Sounds like it might be very soon for STT.

Hope you are all well.

Starshinetiger · 07/10/2009 21:26

Sparkly - does your absence mean that things have kicked off, or just that DH and DS are home?
I'm off to bed - feeling sick and think that being in bed within 1 hour of DD will do me good for once.
Sending positive labour vibes to STT and IDOB... will check back in again in the morning.

Diege · 07/10/2009 22:32

Just checking in on labour-watch...maybe you're right STAR! Hope you (and KAYZ) feel better soon xx
SES I have to say the old GF in me thought 'He'll never sleep tonight' when I read your post I'm hardly one to talk though what with J waking despite following the bleedin' thing to the letter from day one
Right, dh just back in so heading up the stairs!

essenceofSES · 08/10/2009 06:37

STT - hope things are progressing nicely or even that you have your lo in your arms by now?

IDOB - hoping the same for you too but if not I'm hoping you're still feeling better after yesterday's appointment.

Kay & Star - hope you're both feeling better.

Well our night was better than I thought it was going to be but I do think I still need to get tougher. The good news though is that DS hasn't slept in bed with me at all!
His nap went on til 7pm in the end which was 2hrs45. I fed him as soon as he woke up and he had a good focussed feed for 15 mins. Then he had play time til 8.10pm when I tried to feed him again but he wouldn't take much so I took him upstairs for his bath. Then did massage, then put vest & Gro-bag on. Then sat in bed feeding him. As he got sleepy I put him in his cot and he just started crying & wriggling. I stayed singing & stroking him but he just got angry and started chomping on his hand. I tried teething remedies and put him down again. By 10pm I tried pick up/ put down a few times and ended up crying in my arms. At 10.45pm it was 2hrs since his last feed so I fed him again. He fell asleep on me in about 10 mins so I transferred him to cot with a bit of "sh"ing and patting. He stayed there asleep til 1.55am. He woke moaning but didn't open his eyes so I fed him and put him back down and he was asleep again by 2.25am. He then woke again at 4am so I repeated feed and put down. He then woke at 5.25am with his arm stuck through the bars of the cot. I tried putting him straight and stroking but didn't work. He got quite angry again so picked him up. Didn't seem to help but hung on til 6am before feeding him. Again he then went to sleep and is now back in his cot.

Sorry for lengthy splurge. Would you guys have done anything differently?

Really cross with DH. We agreed he'd sleep in spare room. At 5.50am his alarm went off so I left DS in his cot and went and asked DH to cuddle him for 10 mins. He said no as he found it all v difficult & strange, he'd want to just bring him into bed and he didn't have time as he had to get up. He said he was sorry but he just couldn't. He then stayed in bed until 6.25am.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me! Hope you're all ok and we get some baby news soon!!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 08/10/2009 08:26

Hi guys, sorry to disappoint! Still here and baby still firmly planted in my belly.

The contractions all stopped after I had a hot shower, I did a bit of housework and cooked dinner for DS and DH, then a bit more housework not very like me!

Then for the first time in quite a while, just sat and watched crap on telly with DH and went to bed in reasonable time - about 10ish. Woke again at 3, feeling starving hungry, (what is that all about?) took the opportunity to empty the tumble dryer, fold all the clothes, put the next load in and empty the washing machine - I'd gotten behind with the drying! Now I've got baby car seat covers drying around the radiators. Another job done.

I had two cups of milky coffee (decaff of course) a banana and a choc chip brioche, then went back to bed - last time I remember looking at the clock it was quarter to five. Will need to see if I can fit some sleep in today as with two broken nights now, I can feel it starting to catch up and I don't want to be totally exhausted by the time labour properly starts like I was last time.

I've got a MW appt later today, so we'll see what she has to say / suggest about things.

Also, I've got a lady coming round to pick up the dog at 10 this morning, she's going to take her back to her house and give her a thorough groom and wash! I'm quite excited - no more smelly pooch! I rang the vets to see if they had any recommendations and its one of the receptionists thats doing it for me.

Ses, I'd have done exactly the same as you re the night wakings, pat and shush as much as possible, but feed if that's what is required. Can I ask though, how come DH is in spare room if DS not in bed with you - is it so that he gets full nights sleep? Not sure I understand what he found 'difficult and strange', I would be annoyed if I asked DH to cuddle DS for ten minutes and he said he couldn't when he blatantly could have done.

Sorry to hear you've been poorly Kay, forgot you'd gone back to work, wondered why it had been a bit quiet on here

essenceofSES · 08/10/2009 08:43

Morning STT! Don't worry, not disappointed. Still excited!!
Yay for clean pooch. I love it when we get our 2 groomed.

DH and I agreed he'd sleep in spare room for a week whilst I get sleep situation sorted. Partly so he can sleep well and partly to prevent him telling me to bring DS into bed as he's a big softy. Told him I was annoyed before he went to work and he apologised but said he couldn't do it as he doesn't like it when O cries. I tried to tell him I don't either!
He's away in Scotland with work tonight so I'll be on my own anyway.

Saturday I have a spa day with NCT girls so DH will have O from 10-4!!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 08/10/2009 08:54

Ah I see! Well, I'm a bit tougher than DH, but not much and we co-slept when we needed to. DS always went to sleep in his own bed, but at some point would wake up - with us both working full time and needing as much rest as each other, it was the only workable way to go, that satisfied our 'softness' too, that is I guess.

This last week or so, DS' sleeping has been fab, settling to sleep very quickly and sleeping through till morning - needing to be woken up these last few days - so he seems to have adjusted to his new bedroom and big bed (its a double!) very nicely - just in time too!

He has said a couple of times, "when baby comes, mummy and daddy and baby sleep in here" (my room) and "i sleep in my big bed"
so he seems to get what's going to happen, and I'm not sure if he'll be happy or not when LO actually arrives . I guess that's the only thing I'm nervous about at the moment - I look at him and I love him so, so much, I just don't want him to feel in anyway rejected when the new baby comes...

Am very of your spa day - would love to do something like that before LO arrives but have a feeling I've left it a bit late!

essenceofSES · 08/10/2009 08:59

Your system with DS makes sense.
V cute that he's now saying "when baby comes". He'll probably be fascinated (at least to begin with!)

Maybe we'll have to have a wagon spa day at some point!!?

tinkbig · 08/10/2009 09:10

sparkly - nesting alert

kay and stt - get well soon

ses - you are doing really well

tinkbig · 08/10/2009 09:15

any thoughts ladies

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weaning/839521-dd2-is-8-5-months-old-what-to-feed-her

ye for boden package lenni they are the best sort of packages

Sparklytwinkletoes · 08/10/2009 09:18

Oooh a wagon spa day, how wonderful that would be!

I feel a little deprived this time around actually, because when my sister was due we went and stayed at a spa for two days / one night, and we went when I was heavily pg with DS too - but haven't managed to do anything this time around - which is a bit pants really. Though doing it post-natally sounds good as I really do enjoy a good soak in a sauna!

Have just realised I haven't been swimming for weeks - crikey, lady is going to be here to get the dog soon and I'm not washed or dressed - in fact, I probably smell as bad and look as scarecrow like as the dog does! Best go get myself sorted!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 08/10/2009 09:21

Oh, and is it normal to be hungry ALL the time?

Last night for tea (about 6.30) I had tortellini, with broccoli and green beans and carbonara sauce, with tomato and cucumber on the side and some french bread and butter. Dairy milk caramel bar for afters

Then at 4 this morning, two (big) mugs of milky coffee, a banana and a brioche.

At about 8 this morning, a fairly normal sized bowl of shreddies.

And now, I don't know - toast? Will wait till after my shower but lord, how big is this baby going to be!!!! Consultant said it was a 'good size' last week, DS was 8lb....oh heck!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 08/10/2009 09:44

STT- i was like that all the time i was PG- has stopped now i'm not PG any more but i'd eat a good sized portion of food about 5/6 times a day!! I'd eat well into the evening and would start first thing in the morning.

DD was born average for gestation so not too big... however if she'd been full term i've worked out she'd have been around 8/9lb if born between 38-40weeks!!

Tink- have replied.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 08/10/2009 11:08

Tink, I've replied too - hope its some help.

Right, well I've managed to hold off eating for a good couple of hours, distracted myself with a shower, a quick walk with the dog as the lady has been to collect her to take her to be groomed. We've had a cup of tea and chat, she really is a lovely lady! Hope the dog behaves and doesn't throw up in her car

tinkbig · 08/10/2009 11:43

cheers ladies

well tried bracken with broccoli, fish finger & mash had some but not overley keen.
dd1 is very fussy 2.
have tried her with 7mnth plus jars that have bits not keen. luvs the 4-6 mnth jars especiall the spag bol one.
want to make sure that she is eating as both girls dont gain weight properley.
i did make purees for the first 6 mnths.
i do have annabel karmel cook book and weaning book.
may try and puree our foods only problem is we have pizza and pasta and curry mostly!! mite stick to jars. only prob is they are exspensive.

Diege · 08/10/2009 14:33

Afternoon! All fine here, although struggling with the daily grind after a 4.30 start... J is still waking at this time, not hungry, just really unsettled, thrashing about in his cot and banging his (sleeping-bagged) legs up and down He does go back to sleep (on and off) after 40 mins or so, but I cam never get back to sleep. Shouldn't moan though, I know some of you havce it a lot worse!
Oh and SES sounds like you did good last night! I think I may have held off the 4am feed if he had fed a few hours before, but then who am I to talk with my present record
Will do another labour dance if I can muster the energy
Oh and have just bought a super cute long-sleeved vest from Oh Baby London with 'Don't you wish your baby was cute like me' on the front

Sparklytwinkletoes · 08/10/2009 15:06

oh tink - slap your legs with the pizza, pasta and curry diet! one thing i have found with the recipes in the book I recommended, is that they are equally nice for DH and I.

Don't worry that she didn't wolf the dinner down, at 8.5 months, she still gets most of her nutrition from the milk - the foods are about playing with flavours and textures. So even if not 'overly keen', just keep offering it and it will probably change.

Anyway, you can take the curry you eat and 'water' it down with natural yoghurt, or creme fraiche for the littlies - DS has been eating curry for ages! In fact, last time, he had it the same strength as me, which granted was diluted with a good dollop of creme fraiche due to my heartburn, but I was still amazed as I found it a bit hot! He loves naan bread and rice too

And she can eat pizza too - cut it into small slices and let her gnaw on it, add some salad bits like cucumber (they love cucumber, so good for their gums) (and add it to your plate too by the sounds of things!!!) and cherry tomatoes cut small...maybe without the seeds to start off with as this maybe too tangy for her taste buds, but the flesh by itself would be fine.

DS lives on pasta - so again, give that to her too. But whilst she does love the purees, I'd try to keep moving her on texturally, otherwise you could end up with a child who struggles.

Got to fly, got to be at the MW's in ten mins, but doubt she'll be running on time (here's hoping I can still fit behind the steering wheel I haven't driven for about two weeks!!!)

Catch you later,
x
