Hello

Sorry haven't caught up at all, have just come to whinge again.

That house we were going for has gone, we have three weeks to find another, get out of ours, else the buyers are going to walk, we have to find new school places for wherever we bloody end up, kids don't know if they're coming or going, neither do we for that matter, and I have my driving test in 3 weeks!

Anyway upshot is, I'm not going to be around much, if at all probably until we've moved and set up the PC. So just wanted to say cheerio! Hope the impending births go well and I am looking forward to reading all about them when I get back on! (And just to satisfy a bit of my nosyness excitment, feel free to text me the minute anything is announced when anyone can spare a minute )

Oh Diege, have a tip on the packing, don't put toys in a box, and leave the box in the living room thinking you'll find five minutes to chuck some more stuff in later, because that five minutes will never come and before you know it, the little darlings (wish there was a devil emoticon!) have un-packed said box and spread said toys all over the floor, 4 times in less than 2 hours. Oh we are having a barrel of laughs in our house at the moment!

Anyway, I am off, so I'll see you all when I see you, lots of love xxx

tinksbiggirlhasstartedschool · 30/09/2009 16:26

good luck nat

hopefully things will settle down soon

Kayzr · 30/09/2009 18:14

DS1 has just done a wee on the potty!!! I am so excited!!

Nat, hope everything goes well for you! Good Luck for the move and the driving test.

idreamofbeanie · 30/09/2009 19:57

Congrats Kay and well done F.

Nat - hope you get the move sorted soon and good luck for the driving test.

MMM - fingers crossed for a better night tonight.

Well still no signs of anything starting here. Only 4 days overdue but getting pretty fed up. I see the midwife tomorrow so at least I'll find out if she has engaged yet and they will probably do a sweep if she has. Keep your fingers crossed DP is right - he has said all along he thinks I will go into labour on Friday night and she will be born this Saturday morning. We'll put the pool up tomorrow just in case .

maxxymoosmummy · 30/09/2009 20:21

IDOB thanks i have mine crossed too as im tired and gotta be out of the house and on a bus by 8.25 tomoro to get ma to the hospital. hope DP is right then hope she makes an appearence soon

essenceofSES · 30/09/2009 21:39

Evening all!
DS did well today when I took him into work - they all thought he was great.

IDOB - hope your DP is right!

Diege - hope your trip into work went ok and the train wasn't too bad.

I'm in a grumpy mood tonight. Poor DH is bearing the brunt. I'm fed up with him creating extra work - not closing freezer door, rubbing his socks off on the floor instead of bending down (creates loads of fluff on the floor). OMG that all sounds v petty
I asked DH to give DS a bottle of EBM just now and then look after him for 20mins so I could have a bit of a break. He brought him to me after just 10 mins...
I know I'm being a bit unfair as he's having a busy time at work and he did cook dinner this evening. Think lack of decent sleep is not helping!

Right enough of my pathetic waffle!

MMM - good luck with your early start!

maxxymoosmummy · 30/09/2009 22:24

awww hope you feel in a happier mood soon SES and thanks for the luck its just reminded me to set my alarm haha, would have probably 4got otherwise.

tinksbiggirlhasstartedschool · 01/10/2009 09:53

has harvest festival tomorrow
taking dd2 to sign and sign later

essenceofSES · 01/10/2009 16:11

Quiet on here today!

Feeling less grumpy today after a better nights sleep - only 3hrly instead of 2hrly
We do have a result of all this grumpiness though as O's second tooth has come through alongside his other one at the bottom!

tink - hope you enjoy sing and sign. Does DD1 start full days as of next week then?

IDOB - hope you're doing ok??!

Nat - hope things work out for you

Kay - any more potty use by DS1 today?!

maxxymoosmummy · 01/10/2009 18:38

hi everyone, sorry havent been on all day had DS at the hospital today and yay hes been discharged

any news IDOB hope shes here in your arms r at least on her way

all excited for next wednesday as ive just booked my train tickets to go down to birmingham and see my sister at uni really looking forward to it as me and DS are missing her lots.
glad your feeling happier SES and that the was a reason for all the grumpiness from O it makes it alot better when there is something come out of it. DS is teething and has been for around 2 months now, but nothing is coming anytime soon

idreamofbeanie · 01/10/2009 19:08

WHINGE ALERT

Sorry but I've just had a really crap midwife appointment. The baby still isn't engaged and there aren't any signs anything will happen soon. That would have been fine but the 2 midwives were rubbish - they just didn't give me any information and couldn't make a decision about what to do next. They kept asking me what I wanted to do and whether I thought I should have another appointment next week. I was trying to get some info from them e.g. they said she might engage during labour and I asked how likely that was and they just shrugged and said well anything's possible. Then they said:

  1. They could try a s+s but she thought it would be hard to "find my cervix" and would probably "be very painful as they rootled around". Didn't inspire much confidence.
  1. They wanted to book me in for an induction next Friday. I said I was worried about it as everyone I know recently who has been induced after going overdue has had a bad experience and ended up with a c-section (which I know isn't the worst thing but if there is a really high chance the induction won't work I'd rather just plan for the c-section rather than exhaust myself with hours of painful labour which goes nowhere first). I was trying to ask in their experience does induction work if the baby is late and not engaged. They both just smiled sympathetically and said what a shame you won't get your home birth and will end up with this induction you don't want - NO reassurance that it could go well or anything like that.

Basically by the end I just wanted to cry so I refused to let them book the induction and said we can talk about it at my appointment next Wednesday if she isn't here by then. I had assumed my own midwife would be back from hols by then and I would have trusted what she told me but apparantly she has 2 weeks off so I have these rubbish midwives again .

Sorry for the huge moan, I know going overdue is common and not a tragedy but I wanted to see a midwife who told me my options, sounded like she knew what she was talking about and then helped me make a decision. It's not too much to ask is it?

essenceofSES · 01/10/2009 19:13

IDOB -
They are crap MWs!
Not suprised you felt like crying. Frustrating that your lo doesn't seem ready at the moment and I completely understand your concerns about an induction. All v difficult and I wish I could wave a magic wand and make her engage now (or at the v least for your MWs to actually reassure you and share the wealth of experience that I'd expect they have.

Sorry, don't feel v helpful but had to respond.

maxxymoosmummy · 01/10/2009 19:25

awww sorry to hear that IDOB sorry i cant be of much help. just hope that she has arrived by next wednesday for you then you wont have the crappy midwifes again that arent of any help.

idreamofbeanie · 01/10/2009 19:37

Thanks guys - I'm just feeling a bit emotional. I know logically it doesn't matter how the baby arrives as long as we both come out of it healthy. Even the people I know who've had 'bad' inductions say they didn't care once they held their babies. I can't help being nervous though and I'm someone who just needs to be given the facts in a straight forward way so the stupid midwives looking concerned and not knowing what to do while not giving me any info sent my anxiety levels sky high. I feel better now I'm home and have had time to calm down. I'm just going to forget about the whole thing till next week then, if she isn't here, I'll go with a list of questions for them to answer and if they can't I'll refuse the induction until I speak to someone who can answer them.

Fingers crossed all this worry is for nothing and the full moon this weekend does the trick .

Kayzr · 01/10/2009 19:41

Sorry to hear you have such rubbish MWs IDOB. Hopefully she'll be here before your next appointment. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Ses, DS1 has used the potty again another 4 times. But just completely stopped once DH got home from work which is really weird.

Starshinetiger · 01/10/2009 20:39

IDOB - so sorry for crap appointment. Think your attitude is spot on - just go with the flow, but it does not excuse crappy midwives. I don't know if it helps, but when DS (my first), I saw midwife at 11am on the Friday, she told me that he was not engaged and booked me in for the next week and talked about possible S+S - he was born just before 9pm that evening. I think it's quite common for first babies not to engage early, or am I getting that wrong??

You could start a thread with your question on in the Childbirth topic and see if you get any help immediately that way, so you don't worry through to next Weds.

Kayz - yay for DS1 weeing on potty. Have had similar with different things with DS over the last year or so - he'll do one thing with one of us and not with the other - I would just take it as an example of him exercising his "control" and of course he may just be too excited to have DH home to remember about the potty. 4 wees in one day is big progress - yay for DS1!

Moosy · 01/10/2009 22:29

Sorry for your useless appointment IDOB, I went very overdue with DD1 and was induced, it wasn't fun at all but I did manage to avoid a CS, so it's not a dead cert! Do you know what position the baby is in? DD1 didn't get started without help as she was OP (back to back), just wondering if this might be the case for you too? If it is then there are things you can do to help things progress...

idreamofbeanie · 01/10/2009 22:53

Cheers Moos - she said the baby is lying with her spine against the left side of my bump, does that mean OA rather than OP? Would the spine be further round if she was OP? She just seems to be too high. Ten days spent mostly walking or bouncing on my birth ball haven't moved her much (she went from high to at brim but even when they got me to sit up she didn't drop into my pelvis, they wrote 4/5 but seemed to think that was optimistic) so not sure what else I can try. One midwife said that some babies just don't engage until labour and the contractions might get her to move into position but she just didn't sound very convinced and said it was unusual for a first.

One of the midwives half jokingly suggested castor oil or a disgusting mix of peach juice, olive oil and bicarb of soda but I know my mum tried that with me (I was also very late and didn't engage) and her waters broke but she only had contractions for a couple of hours then she had to be induced so that will def be a last resort.

Moosy · 01/10/2009 23:32

Eek, don't do the castor oil, all it does is give you a bad tummy, no guarantees it will get anything going (other than the obvious! ). It's a really outdated idea and midwives shouldn't be recommending it .

Look in your notes from the appointment today, if she's on the left it should say LOA (anterior - good), LOL (lateral - ok), or LOP (posterior - bad).

idreamofbeanie · 01/10/2009 23:46

Moosy - they never write that stuff in my notes, even my usual midwife has never bothered. For presentation they wrote ceph and for lie they wrote long but that's it. They did weigh me and measure my bump (39cm) which is unusual - my midwife just has a feel, says it feels about right and writes U=dates.

Kayzr · 02/10/2009 06:42

Morning.

Star, I think 1st babies are meant to engage quite early. DS1 didn't engage until 2 days before I went into labour. I was lucky as the MW and my consultant were already booking my CS for 41+4 as they were sure he wouldn't engage.

I am so tired. DS2 slept all night but I kept waking up.

maxxymoosmummy · 02/10/2009 09:17

morning, just debating wether or not to go out today as its raining at the moment. but kind of need to open a bank account that direct debits can go out of might have to brave it after lunch.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 02/10/2009 09:31

tinkisautumnal · 02/10/2009 09:39

morning

what a pain idob sending loads and loads of hugs, wispas, hot choclates and labour vibes straight to you pgrin]

cant - sorry you are not feeling well!!

kay - sorry u couldnt sleep

Diege · 02/10/2009 10:20

Morning Sorry I've not been on for a few days, really hectotic here with tryinbg to sort out house business. Buyers arranged to come round with a decorator for a quote; he (decorator) turned up, they didn't... I don;t think people realise how much stress and graft it involves tidying up, still at least it's (relatively) tidy for their retirn visit today . Realise how slovenly that makesme sound, only havinbg a good clean when necessary
IDOB, today is the day according to your dh isn't it!! Modwoves do sound rather unhelpful. As KAYZ says, it is more usual for first babies to engage early, but many don't until labour so please don't get too anxious. And while of course a healthy mum and baby is the most important thing, that doesn;t at all belittle your desire to have a positive birth experience xxx
MMM is it possible to open an account on-line?
SES, glad work went ok. Fine here too, train good, and fitted in a visit to Gap in Chester too . Everyone suitably gushing over J, esp the students!
Hi TINK, bet you're looking forward to full days
CANT hope you're back to health soon!Hello MOOS. STAR and everyone else I've missed
