It's standard in my area to get just one scan at 23 weeks. I only had extra beacuse a) I had miscarriages and then b) Down's risk was high so King's College Hospital wanted to scan me at 20 weeks as their equipment is better.

hester · 02/06/2005 08:27

Good to know it's not just me waiting for a scan - most things I've read suggest that it normally gets done 17-20 weeks. 22 weeks just seems rather late in terms of making decisions should there be real problems... but I suppose the plus side is that there'll be that much more to see.

Lexie, I have low blood pressure too. I've always been a great swooner but am finding it much worse now. Did a nice sit-down-suddenly-on-the-floor job while queueing to buy a bra in M&S the other day. Everyone stared at me as if I were off my head.

jolovett · 02/06/2005 09:22

Hey there - good luck to all of you waiting for scans - I'm sure they'll all be fine and you'll have a fab time watching your bubs wriggling round in front of you.

Feeling a bit worn down the last couple of days and bump is feeling uncomfortable. Think JJ is trying to build an extension in there with all the bumping around and stretching! Hope it's just growing pains and will pass soon.

Six weeks until the 4d scan now - can't wait!

fastasleep · 02/06/2005 09:30

Hi... I know I haven't posted on the threads for aaaaages but I've been lurking!

I'm getting really stressed out I'm 19 weeks and 4...and I haven't felt anything. I've had bubbly things that I thought was the baby and then turned out to be just wind...I'm getting really worried now, everything I read says 'You no doubt feel the kicking and somersaulting of your growing baby. At times, she may be so mobile that you can't sleep' and I know DS was keeping me awake at this time and wriggling none stop... I'm just getting really freaked out! Is anyone else not getting kicked?

Thank god I have my scan tomorrow, I'm worried sick! I was already worried because the consultant has to see it because of DS's problems last time round and I'm just a nervous wreck!! Argh!

Sorry for the babble there... glad to hear everyone's ok and looking forward to their scans

jessicasmummy · 02/06/2005 09:33

Fastasleep - STOP PANICKING! I've got exactly the same... maybe a few little flutters but no decent big kicks..... i felt a lot more with jess too so dont panic - everything is fine!

fastasleep · 02/06/2005 09:37

Sorry lol I'm just all hormonal and annoying! I was better at lurking around here lol

SusiS · 02/06/2005 09:38

don't panic! i felt it quite late too! i think it's got to do with us having a 2nd baby! so everything's still stretched and bubs has more room to move about!!! - let us know how the scan went though
are you going to find out the sex????

OP posts:
fastasleep · 02/06/2005 09:40

Thanks yes we're going to find out the sex... I'm hoping that maybe because we've just about got boys names sorted that it'll be a girl (I bet it's a boy again though!)... I spose my uterus did look all stretched and wonky on the 13 week scan I had, not the tiny little pear shaped thing it used to be!

Joseyjo · 02/06/2005 10:32

hester - do you find that standing does much worse things to your bp than walking or anything else? my yoga/pilates teacher said that standing is actually a stress position because your muslces are not moving and encouraging blood flow so that they get enough oxygen. i can walk for ages (until my hip joints ache!!!) but i am absolutely useless at standing - queueing is the worst.

fastasleep - don't stress, i wasn't getting much movement at 19 weeks. everyone was telling me that you feel 2nd babies so much earlier, but i am sure i felt this one later and it is a LOT bigger!! my mw said it was related to having an anterior placenta, but whether that is true or not i don't know. i am now 22 weeks and being pumelled!!! i know how stressful it is (ds stopped moving at 33 weeks so i am utterly paranoid about monitoring) but you will feel soo much better after your scan tomorrow.

ruthiemum · 02/06/2005 10:32

Hi everyone, haven't posted for ages, been really busy doing nothing! Can't believe that we are half way there, it's hard to stop counting the weeks though. Has anybody heard how Mawbroon is doing?

Piggiesmum · 02/06/2005 11:29

Hester. I have that worry about the world we are bringing our children into as wel. i keep sane by remembering we only ever here about the odd 1 or 2 bad things and not the hundreds of thousands of people who go through life everyday with no incidents like that

Fastasleep, try not to panic. I am 19 + 1 and haven't felt any kicks either. I have a few feelings that i don't know whether are still the same twinges of growth I've been having the last month, wind or the baby. I've got my scan tomorrow too.

Joseyjo · 02/06/2005 11:52

on a completely different note - is anyone else struggling to get into and out of the car in car parks?!!! my work one has really small spaces and i don't seem to bend in the right places and more. if i grow at this rate for another 16 weeks (oh my god!!!) then i am going to have to request a disabled parking space!!
my dh pointed out yesterday that at 22 weeks the baby is approx 350g and at 38 it will be 3500g!!!!! so it is only 10% of its eventual size inside. i really don't understand how i am not going to split in two - my belly button has nearly disappeared already. please reassure me all you 2nd timers who produced normal sized babies at term last time as this is really concerning me!

Jockey · 02/06/2005 13:45

Hi all

Had 20 week scan today (a little late) - was so nervous beforehand was retching in the loo! Held my breath and prayed hard as leg measurements were being done as had queries over this before with my first dd.

That sounds funny "first dd" - yes this one is a girl too! Can't wait to meet her now!

Joseyjo - I know exactly what you mean but it is possible to carry 2nd babies to term - my dd was actually heavier. Even so, I'm sure my belly is going to rip in half any minute and am wondering how on earth I'm going to get through to October! But I'm sure I felt the same as this before. I certainly felt huge last Friday in that heat.

Very best of luck to those still waiting for scans. I can really understand the worry & hope you all get the reassurance you need. xxx

Piggiesmum · 02/06/2005 13:47

Not noticed so much in car parks yet but i did notice a couple of days ago that we'll have to stop putting the car in the garage or I'll never be able to get in it to get it out again

Lexie100 · 02/06/2005 16:54

I have noticed i can't bend like i used to and seem to do the preganacy stance very well (hand on lower back). I don't think about doing it, it just comes naturally!!!!!!

jessicasmummy · 02/06/2005 16:58

right with you lexie.... cant bend over the normal way now either - nightmare when it comes to having a 10 month old to fetch and carry!

morningpaper · 02/06/2005 18:19

I keep slamming the car door against my belly and I'm having trouble sitting behind my desk - it's a small 'office' at the best of times but now my belly touches the desk. I was also massive last time.

I watched some of those birthing programes on Sky last night - it really put the wind up me! The SHEER SIZE of the women's bellys just made me think " there's no way that's coming out of that pelvis!"

With DH could give birth this time - damn sex discrimination!

groan

Elf1981 · 02/06/2005 18:54

LOL MP

I seem to have doubled in size over the past week or so. Loads of people keep teling me how "pregnant". Good job people know I am, otherwise they'd be telling me how fat I look!

Tired out today. Think will have a nap this afternoon!

Ref car parks : find it hard getting out of my car on the drive, DH is usually quite considerate and parks well away from other cars when we go shopping. But I have noticed that I also am having trouble sitting for long periods of times. I get up and am in agony when trying to move!! Is this normal or am I lazy arse? Can't stand the idea of having to take a pillow to sit on at work, but can't see a way around it!

morningpaper · 02/06/2005 19:18

Elf I'm also finding it tough sitting down for long - I feel like I'm going to leave my hips on the chair! Is this what it's like to be OLD?!!?

YOKEFLEET · 02/06/2005 19:58

Re Carparks - I'm struggling getting my car in/out of the garage but my main worry is that I soon won't be able to get in and out of our shower cubicle!!!!!

Jockey · 02/06/2005 20:42

I soon won't be able to drive at all - I have to sit right forward being so short and my belly is already wedged against the steering wheel!

mawbroon · 02/06/2005 22:17

Hello all.

Thanks for asking for me Ruthiemum. I'm reading all the posts about getting in and out of car, chair etc etc and considering myself very lucky indeed!! I am having a little difficulty bending right down, but fine with everything else. My colleagues all swore today that I was bigger than I was yesterday, but if I wore baggy clothes then it would be dead easy to disguise the fact that I am expecting. I am now up to 3kg weight gain, but my face, bum and legs are all thinner than they were pre preg. It must be the lack of alcohol and drink related munchies!

We are going for an anomily scan on Tuesday following the positive AFP test so hopefully everything will be fine. I wouldn't normally get a scan at this stage as only the 12 week scan is routine here, so I am quite pleased about it, but slightly nervous at the same time in case there are any problems with it.

We are just back from my brother and SILs house. She gave birth at 3.40am today to a wee boy and they are home already! It's their second, so she was just wanting to get home. Holding him felt very strange and I still can't believe that is where I will be in 5 months time I am beginning to wonder if it going to sink in at all or if I am going to leave the hospital and forget to take the baby with me!
Hope you all have a good Friday

Elf1981 · 03/06/2005 07:16

Morningpaper - if this is what its like to get old, I'm investing in a new bum and set of legs. I look like a right muppet when I get up off my chair at work, all the ooohhhing and arghhing, hands on hips to try and push myself upright! I can't avoid it at work as I have an office job and it's very PC involved. Must remember to take regular breaks!

I'm 21weeks + 2 today. Scan on Tuesday! Midwife appointment on Thursday. Must remember to ask why it's only one of my boobs that is leaking!! I swear that one is smaller!

Positive note - DH has been fag free since Monday!

fastasleep · 03/06/2005 12:09

Hi everyone! (It's the lurker again) Glad you're doing ok Mawbroon ... Elf my boobs started leaking at 12 weeks last time, and for some reason one got a lot bigger and always had more milk in than the other, I think it's quite common

I had my scan today and everything was fine! My placenta is covering the front of my uterus so I can't feel the baby as much (phew!) the kidneys have a bit too much fluid in, but it's within normal ranges unlike DS...but because DS has kidney problems I have to have a consultant led scan.... and it's a girl! I'm absolutely over the moon... we have a perfect little family now thankyou for reassuring me everyone can't wait to hear about everyone who's waiting for a scan!

jessicasmummy · 03/06/2005 12:12

fastasleep - CONGRATS! A little girl! Cant wait for my scan now - its not til Wednesday though! Not finding out the sex mainly because my hosp wont tell me and also, we didnt find out with Jess so why should i this time - really praying its a boy but will be happy with another girl!
