15 spaces left so thought I'd bite the bullet!

I've also had a sweep today which hurt like hell. Cervix really far back and long. Booked in for induction on 21st at 40+9 if he hasn't arrived by then.

LadyStealthPolarBear · 09/09/2009 16:52

oh definitely nothing happening here, think I'm just obsessive symptom spotting, as I'm sure we all are!
JR sorry to hear you've got protein in urine too, hope the sweep starts something off.

JRocks · 09/09/2009 16:53

I don't have the firmest grasp of reality at the best of times, but I do seem to have left the concept in the room of my booking in appointment. And like you say, that's with a barrage of midwife/consultant/physio/scan appointments that should have hinted at the new member of our family's arrival!

Nice work on al fresco bfing LadyEm, you're all capable already...I have a feeling I shall still be weeping and confused at your stage

bigbang · 09/09/2009 16:55

Congratulations littlecheese and detoxadiva!

All the baby pictures are so lovely, well done everyone on producing such beautiful creatures!

Nothing much going on here, loads of cramps, painful cx and bh but nothing ever coming of it. I am trying not to think about it tbh, getting my hopes up time and time again like I did with ds is demotivating.

We are watching to much cbeebies here too, ds seems immune now though- when I want some peace he wants to play AND watch it.

I have done loads of washing and cleaning today so would be great to have the baby tonight or tomorrow! Ha. Might get dp to help out seeing as it worked so well for LC Just need to summon some energy from somewhere. Ds missed his nap today and therefore so did I, am shattered!

Good luck SoS! I hope everything is ok.

audreyraines · 09/09/2009 18:02

congrats to detox and little cheese.

well i recruited dh last night for some induction assistance, but nothing has come of it as yet. acupuncture this morning, so surely surely something has go to work. been taking fistfuls of raspberry leaf tablets (just needed a break from the tea) and eating curries as if my life depended on it. tonight must be the night. surely!!

BabyLady · 09/09/2009 19:08

Congrats detox! Well done.

Loving seeing everyone's baby photos. All so cute. Didn't think I was going to fall in love with anewborn so quickly!!

Went to the BF clinic yesterday and apart from being mayhem I found it quite useful. At first I was a bit freaked out as Toby has only been feeding for about 10-15mins in total - even after a four hour sleep. The BF counsellor was worried so went to get the midwife. No jaundice so she wanted to weigh him. He has put on 200grams in 3 days!! Seems like he is a proper piglet (like his mother ).

A great tip for those with cracked nipples (I had a minor case but quite sore). Buy some dressings called Jelonet and then put them on between BF. Keeps the nipples moist so they can heal - otherwise bubs just keeps pulling off the skin which is trying to heal. I have seen a huge improvement in 24 hours. I warn you though that bubs won't like the smell or taste of it so may delatch a couple of times. I have tried to rub breast milk all over the nipple before starting which does seem to help a bit. Lansinoh around the ouside of the nipple probably suffices.

Sending "out, out" vibes for those waiting.

audreyraines · 09/09/2009 19:34

BAbyLady, that's great weight gain. DS only ever fed for 5-10 minutes at a time. If I tried to get him to take more, he'd get really mad! You probably have a fast milk supply and he is an efficient feeder.

SprinkleofStardust · 09/09/2009 20:39

I'm back!! Everything seems to be fine, have to go back on Friday to check BP again, was monitored for 45 minutes and LO's heartbeat is perfect and my uterus is contracting regularly, I'm just not feeling it so hopefully that means that my body is preparing more than I thought!!

I didn't feel like there was any need to be worried but it's reassuring to be checked out, just glad to be home now.

Was going to ask for a sweep but reading how uncomfortable they are I'm now glad I didn't not sure if they'd give me one anyway, I just thought I could cheek my way into getting one and hope this baby took the hint!!

Hope things start off for those of you who have had a sweep already

blinder · 09/09/2009 20:49

Sprinkle - the sweep I had wasn't all that bad. About as uncomfortable as a smear really. And I'm very posterior and think .

Glad you're back with a clean bill of health!

blinder · 09/09/2009 20:49

posterior and thick

never was a truer word spoke

LadyStealthPolarBear · 09/09/2009 21:09

Brilliant SoS
at contracting regularly

JRocks · 09/09/2009 21:42

My god this cramping is hurting. Can't really tell what's going on with my body now, fingers crossed I go into labour tonight - despite being absolutely shattered, I just want to get on with it

Ladyem · 09/09/2009 22:15

oo, how exciting!! Fingers crossed for you jrocks!!

Glad all is well SOS!! Sounds hopeful if you are contracting regularly, even if you're not feeling it!!

Good luck Jrocks!

Ladyem - good on you for bf in public. If you get any funny looks, just give one back You be surprised at how many people don't even notice what you're doing anyway!

Minshu - good news about LOs position. I got home yday afternoon, after a night of tears. I'd had to stay in due to the risk of cord prolapse if I went into labour. The consultant had scanned me and said that she was transverse lie. He explained that if he hadn't scanned me, 'ignorance is bliss'. But because he knew her position was potentially dangerous, he had to advise admission. I was more upset about leaving DDs than anything else.

Anyhoo, I bit the bullet [as I wanted to come home] and let him perform another ECV. Lil monkey slipped from under his fingers and kept going back to breech. Just when he was about to give up, he managed to get her head down BUT I'm convinced she's back to breech again. Anyway, I'm back there tomorrow for pre-op as they are going to presume I will need cs on Tues - if she's head down they will cancel it on Tues...

Re cord prolapse - it is only a minimal risk but they have to warn you about it. You might have the cx's first anyway, rather than your waters going. So make sure you enjoy the rest of your pg, without worrying too much! They advised me to sit on my birthing ball a lot, if that helps...Also, DD2's head wasn't engaged even when I was in full-blown labour and the mw just pushed it down

mummyhill · 10/09/2009 07:39

That was a lot to catch up on and I have forgotten most of it already. Really must keep a pen and paper next to the pc lol.

Good luck JRocks.

Congratulations Detox and welcome to Harry.

audreyraines · 10/09/2009 08:36

so who had 9/9 babies? JRocks?

it certainly wasn't me. i've still got the bump to show for it.

JRocks · 10/09/2009 08:53

Bah, no not me - just as I suspected it all settled down overnight. I must have had more false starts than anyone

So now I have Monday to look forward to... am bricking it a bit. It's one thing to go into labour but to agree a convenient time for induction seems a bit weird!

No 9/9 babies then? Surely someone on Mumsnet gave birth yesterday?!

Have a silly question about birthing balls - are they the same as normal gym balls or is there something 'special' about them?! I'm thinking I still have time to bounce this baby out over the weekend if my blood pressure doesn't go up anymore

Labella77 · 10/09/2009 08:56

Hello, I'm a bit late joining this thread, I'm 37.2 today with 1st. I'll be having a C-Section on 23rd as baby is breech and refusing to move around. Although it doesn't stop the little monkey wriggling for Britain. BUT you never know she might turn on her own and i end up with a VB. Who knows this whole pregnancy thing is different every time.

I want to wish everyone good luck for their September babies.

xx

blue76 · 10/09/2009 09:10

Welcome Labella - I'm pretty sure it's just you and me with breech LOs on this thread now. Have they offered to turn her for you? Do you have any other DC? This is my 3rd and they've told me it's common for 3rd babies to be awkward!! I've tried ECV twice now and it doesn't seem to have worked, so go in Tues for cs.

Re birthing balls - Jrocks, I think they're the same as gym balls. Just as long as when you sit on it, your thighs are lower than your pelvis

OP posts:
Minshu · 10/09/2009 09:19

Glad you're home, blue - fingers-crossed that your LO stays in the right place. Thank you for the info on awkward ones. I've also been told to sit forward and stay as active and upright as possible. Obstetrician told me that the most common cause of cord prolapse, in reality, is interference from medical staff when artificially breaking waters and said, "Nature almost always does things rather well until we start interfering." Feel much more relaxed about giving birth in her consultant-led unit, with that attitude

Sorry that nothing has come of the discomfort, so far, JRocks. But it's all heading in the right direction (you can lob rotten fruit at me for saying that, if you like).

I think the birthing balls are the same as gym balls - not that I've used either, but just from what was said in one of my ante-natal classes.

Welcome, Labella. I'm 38+2, but have a feeling that LO is going to be settled in there until October. At least you know you're on the right thread - what if I've been in the wrong place all along?

Labella77 · 10/09/2009 09:23

Hi Blue76 - i had the ECV - my gosh it was painful - on Tuesday, the consultant said that first babies are harder to flip as it's alot tighter in there, but i'm still holding out.

Snowfalls108 · 10/09/2009 09:59

Welcome Labella.

JRocks - I empathise. I had a false start last night. I had what I was convinced were cx every 20 minutes for about 4 hours, and then ... nothing. It all completely stopped.

It's so frustrating.
I think I'm going to go for a reflexology appointment today. See if I can get something going.

LadyStealthPolarBear · 10/09/2009 10:32

Oh blue hope the baby stays head down
Sorry things stopped again JR
Pretty sure gym balls and birthing balls are the same, apart from the price! I used a gym ball last time - this time I'm still waiting for DH to fully inflate it, as soon as DS sees it he wants to play with it and usually ends up falling off it and hurting himself. SO probably not going to have one.
Minshu, your obstetrician sounds fantastic!

JRocks · 10/09/2009 10:39

Thanks for all the sympathy, I feel like such a moaner at the moment!

SIL has just come to take DS off to play for a few hours so I shall be resting/fretting/mnetting to my hearts content...

Welcome Labella!

Right, going to investigate birthing/gym balls on t'internet...
