audreyraines · 02/09/2009 15:35

good on you mummyhill! i do feel sad sometimes that they just seem to talk most women into submission around inductions etc.

mummyhill · 02/09/2009 15:42

I know a lot of first timers who have been talked into things that they didn't want because things were not explained to them properly and I think it is wrong.

blinder · 02/09/2009 15:48

mummyhill you are a hero! Bravo!

Ladylush (thanks for birthday wish!) could it be the teat you are using for the expressed milk? Not sure why this would only affect the night-time feeds but it might be worth trying a different flow teat to see. I would have suggested the massage too but mummyhill beat me to it.

reflexology today. mmmmmmmm nice.

sad for all the breach ladies - how frustrating and worrying, but we will all have our babies soon and it won't matter to us in the end how they arrived.

blinder · 02/09/2009 15:52

Sprinkle - AH! knitting needles - gotcha!

Thanks ALL for birthday greetings. Highly recommend the spearmint foot lotion from Lush btw - my DP says it will last us for ages. Bliss!

audreyraines · 02/09/2009 15:53

mummyhill, i also hate that women seem to be told 'it is our policy that you must do x' rather than, 'you have the option of x, the risks and benefits are ..., we would recommend ...'.

blinder, i think i'm in love with reflexology. so lovely and relaxing. if i get to 40 weeks, i'm going to try and use it to bring on labour.

NotBreeVanDeKamp · 02/09/2009 16:16

Hi
Anyone mind if I join this thread? I seem to remember being able to discuss things kept me almost sane last time. Am due no.2 on 25th Sep. Seriously hoping he/she is not early as there is a man currently sanding my floor and making alot of mess, DS1's party at the weekend, my birthday after that, nappies to buy and moses basket to find in the loft somewhere. Oh to be organised!
Well done to all those who have done the deed already.
If anyone has any recommendations for or against an epidural I'd like to know. Had a home birth last time but did not like the pain!
Thanks

LadyStealthPolarBear · 02/09/2009 16:19

Hi NotBree Sounds like you're going to be busy!

JRocks · 02/09/2009 16:22

Hi NotBree! I'm due with no.2 on 25th too, although hoping to be early as things are starting to happen already. Had an epidural last time as I was induced, and was thoroughly grateful for it, but this time all being well I might try without. That's a bit sitting on the fence opinion wise isn't it?!

NotBreeVanDeKamp · 02/09/2009 16:23

Yes - totally ridiculous. My nesting instinct has taken on the form of outsourcing to several different types of workmen. And September will be a busy month for ever more I guess with 3 birthdays. September seems to be my p0referred month for giving birth. (We only have sex in December as a Christmas treat - just kidding )
When are you due?

mummyhill · 02/09/2009 17:13

It nearly made me laugh, he was quite condescending and seemed to think that because of the spd he was doing me a favour! He was quite shocked when I told him I was managing without painkillers due to my dodgy reactions to paracetamol! I luckily have quite a high pain threshold. I also want to get my nesting done and the other children back into school/nursery routine so as long as bubs is content where she is I am happy to plod along to 40 weeks and book and induction for 42 weeks or till labour starts of it's own accord!

blinder · 02/09/2009 17:46

I think I would have laughed to see your consultant's huffity and perplexed little face too mummyhill . 'Did the nasty pregnant lady burst your wittle bubble doctor?' My consultant last time was a bullying git so I am reveling a bit unkindly in you telling yours where to get off.

welcome NotBree!

Wonder if Littlecheese has started up again?

Minshu · 02/09/2009 18:21

Only trying to help, blinder!!!

Good on you, Mummyhill. Obstetricians are more interested in solving problems than the every day business of assisting women with a "natural" process. ("Natural"? all sounds bonkers to me...)

I am the owner of the world's most ticklish feet, so not sure that reflexology would help me. I discovered this morning that I can still reach my toes to paint them (don't look too closely, though), so luckily have not had to put any pedicurists at risk.

Welcome, NotBree - this is the thread for Christmas celebration shagging, after all

blue76 · 02/09/2009 19:03

Thank you Ladylush. I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that a cs is going to be the case for me. I'm getting used to the idea now, after speaking to lots of colleagues today. Re wind - baby massage is great. I used a special lavender oil which was mixed with baby oil at night and it seemed to work a treat.

Boss was fine about me finishing Friday

Thank you for all you kind wishes, ladies

Sorry - did it again and missed a page!

Mummyhill - good on you for standing your ground. I had severe spd with dd2 and went 4 days over. I was absolutely fine. (Much less strain on back and pelvis giving birth on my side).

Welcome Notbree

Good for you Mummyhill, I love that and can just see your consultant feeling very chastised, like a school boy, lol!!!

Welcome NotBree!!

I know it's not ideal but it's good that your getting your head round the CS idea Blue, ultimately as long as your LO and you are safe and sound that's all that really matters but it's hard when you have been planning a specific birth to accept the change initially, so well done you x

Deeeja · 02/09/2009 21:07

Wow so many posts on here, will read them all later.
Good news for me, baby has now flipped and is head down
Doc said would have waited until right up to due date before concerned, since I have 'plenty of room' in there. Also lo was 2/5 palpable, so what a turn around, unless ofcourse she decides to come out again for another float about. I have also lost more mucous plug, and have had mild af pains. I know from previously this can go on for two weeks or so for me, so not getting excited or anything, still good to know things are going in right direction.
Blue, you never know your little one may turn before ECV all on its own, and is just being contrary, practicing until it meets you!
Good luck everyone!
I really want to read a good live labour thread, maybe someone could oblige.
Be back later.

LittleCheese · 02/09/2009 21:15

Blinder no such luck unfortunately I have got over the frustration a little today though after having a long cry and a row with dh last night

Been for a pedicure and some waxing this evening so feel nice and relaxed and i have lovely toes

peachygirl · 02/09/2009 21:38

Blue sorry to her about the failed ECV, I agree it is a very strange sensation and maybe your consultant wasn't as gentle or experienced as mine. Apparently it is a skill that is becoming lost by doctors.

I have a word document which is all about how to make your elective section more personal I can send it to you if you like. I can CAT you. Let me know on the thread.

This offer is open to anyone on here, either CAT me or I can CAT you.

I have had a very twingy day.especially this afternoon I went to the dentist as my gums have been horrendous but he said that is was just part of the pregnancy and they were in better shape than he would have expected for someone due at the end of the month. I got a prescription for some mouthwash. That will go down nicely with my prescription for lactulose from yeasterday!

I must apologise again to the London ladies I am so sorry about merrily saying I can do next week. When I am actually going back to work tomorrow and will be there for the next three weeks. (Only 8 days work though)

I had an interesting visit to the doctor, all is well but when she idid the heart beat she asked did I know what I was having. I said' what does the heart beat tell you?' and she said A boy! Now the scan said a girl, although I know the heartbeat thing is a bit of an old wives tale but I shall be taking some plain sleep suits to the hospital.

LJ29 · 03/09/2009 11:00

Hi lady, I was up hal the night for the secnd night running with insomnia so have tried to catch up this morning but a so restless I am now cooking bolognese for the freezer in my dressing gown!

LadyStealthPolarBear · 03/09/2009 11:03

SOunds productive. My day includes making cottage pie and lentil dahl but not getting anywhere yet.
Am enjoying a nice refreshing glass of spatone...urgh

LJ29 · 03/09/2009 11:06

Sounds yummy! Think I might pop out and get my hair cut later as definitly won't have time when baby gets here and I have 3 under 6 years old.

SprinkleofStardust · 03/09/2009 11:32

Morning Ladies,

I've had another pretty restless night, was tempted to go and clean the oven at 2am this morning but resisted the urge

Is anyone else's joints hurting? It started with my hips, which are making it hard to walk (it's not SPD though) and now my ankle, shoulder, knees, fingers, everything basically are aching. It makes it really hard to get comfy and to get some sleep!!

I already have made some meals for the freezer but I might make some more, after cleaning the oven of course...

LadyStealthPolarBear · 03/09/2009 11:37

my pelvis has been hurting for weeks (probably the last trimester). Don't think it's SPD (or if it is it's mild) but when I feed DS to sleep, put him down then go to get up I sometimes physically can't...have the roll off the bed and straighten out slowly!
