Hey everyone,

Congratulations to TLQ and bratnav!

I can't believe its September already, 14 days till edd and only 28 and I will have had a baby one way or another! Scary stuff. I have changed my mind about the baby coming early though, dp still hasn't finished a freelance project that was supposed to be completed in March so I need him to finish it or he will be exhausted and working during his paternity leave instead of waiting on me hand and foot. Grr. Moses basket still hasn't arrived either despited being ordered two weeks ago.

Went to the festival over the weekend, saw my cousin's band who were great, but not much else! Went back in the evening without ds but I was so tired we were home by 10. I have bump ache and contractions all night though from too much standing and walking!

My appetite is huge still, I am eating all the time. Mostly cheese for some reason!

Good luck Jrocks and happy birthday Blinder!

Mummyhill how awful! Must have been very scary, glad everyone is ok though.

TrixieBelden · 01/09/2009 10:38

Welcome baby Reuben! What a big guy -- how fantastic. Sorry the induction took so long, though.

Hope things move along for LittleCheese today.

mummyhill - that's one of my recurring nightmares, the kitchen units falling down. So glad you're all right. Would have scared the hell out of me!

Happy birthday, blinder - hope it's a good one and that you don't have to share it, as nice as it would be to get that baby out...

About the show -- all the books I have say that significantly increased discharge is totally normal in the last few weeks, but it's not the mucous plug unless it's tinged with pink, fwiw. But obviously everyone is different.

9 days till EDD for me and I still have lots of irregular contractions if I'm very active. Last night I was in serious pain as the little guy squirmed around and shifted position. It felt like he wriggled down a lot lower, but this morning it felt 'normal' again. 39-wk antenatal appt today, and the MW had better not tell me that he's suddenly breech or else he will be in serious trouble with his mother. On the bright side, I can't think of a single thing left to do to get the house ready, so I'm feeling reasonably relaxed. Two days till DD starts school and then the baby can come whenever he likes!

SprinkleofStardust · 01/09/2009 11:26

Don't know how but I missed Bratnav's post, so sorry!! Congratulations, that's a great weight and a lovely name!!

Happy Birthday Blinder, hope you have a great day!!

Mummyhill so glad you're all safe, how scary!!

11 days until EDD, no real signs that he's going to come early but I'm still hoping!! Had the most horrendous KNUF last night, for about 5 mins, it just wouldn't go, when I moved it just got worse and worse, it was really horrible, have no idea what it was or if it means anything?

blinder · 01/09/2009 12:53

Thanks all for birthday wishes!

Croissants brought to me in bed this morning with a big box of Lush bath products. House now smells very PINK.

Minshu still working on it. It's properly taking my mind off the birth [maniacal laugh].

What is KNUF anyway Sprinkle?? I have never worked it out!

blinder · 01/09/2009 12:54

Sure it won't be long Littlecheese - bet you have done a fair bit of dilating already and will be grateful for that in due course !

ladylush · 01/09/2009 13:22

Big congrats to all those who have had their babies dd came home from the neo-natal unit two weeks ago and is her weight gain is good. She is now about 5.5 lbs - would've been a pound heavier if she hadn't lost a pound the week after her birth. Anyway, all is going well and she is demand feeding. I am giving her expressed breast milk as I had problems with supply initally and I need to know she is gaining weight.

SprinkleofStardust · 01/09/2009 13:32

Lovely to hear from you ladylush, good to hear things are going well x

KNUF - Knitting Needle Up the Fanjo, can't remember who came up with it but it describes the pain quite adequately!!

I love LUSH products, hoping DH is going to spoil me with them when this LO is born, I've made lots of hints

Glad you're having a good day and being spoilt blinder, especially with the dissertation still going on, you deserve it!!

After scrubbing the bathroom from top to bottom yesterday, I've decided I'm going to have a lazy day today and not do much at all, except eat and drink RLT!! If the urge to clean comes I may do a couple of things but no pressure, not long left to enjoy doing bugger all!!

Minshu · 01/09/2009 14:03

Great to hear from you, ladylush!! Hope that the expressing and feeding is going ok - my friend had to do that with her LO who was 5 weeks early, and found it hard work to start with, but it did get better.

Blinder - just say the word and I can start nagging, but obviously not on your birthday!!

I've done a bit of housework today as I was horrified at the thought of a friend coming round and seeing the state of the place. But she's had to postpone, so can relax knowing that the kitchen and bathroom floors look pristine for a change. (until cat creates more balls of fur and puts muddy paw prints everywhere - hmm, 5 minutes, then)

Going to pack my hospital bags shortly...

Wow bexaa how exciting! Fingers crossed for you today!

Well I'm 38 weeks today and have been getting cramps on and off - lost bit of plug last week so who knows, may be early????

Have discovered LittleSyd's anagram is ALAS! I AM WALLY HIM - how lovely!

JRocks · 01/09/2009 17:07

Thanks for all the good luck wishes! I am home for now, although still having contractions nothing else is happening - I think this one has it's own agenda!

Seeing midwife tomorrow for routine appointment, and then consultant next week if nothing's happening.

Hope you're all well and had a good Bank Holiday

LadyStealthPolarBear · 01/09/2009 17:08

Fantastic news ladylush, glad things are going well.
bexaa, oooh things are happening!
Well just been for MW appointment and bump is 3/5 engaged! Does that really mean anything?

peachygirl · 01/09/2009 17:18

Just popping in to show my face after being away for the weekend.

Congratulations to those who have popped!! I be on again later to do a more detailed read.

LadyStealthPolarBear · 01/09/2009 17:25

hi peachygirl

blue76 · 01/09/2009 21:19

Happy birthday Blinder!

Lovely to hear from you Ladylush

Good luck Bexaa!

foul language warning

Went to FMU for the ECV today. Sat whilst LO was monitored for 20 mins or so, then had a scan to check position - 'oblique/breech'. Consultant came in and answered my barrage of questions. When I asked if ECV could induce labour, he replied, 'Well, put it this way, if you came to me 39 weeks pg and said 'doc if dp and I have a good shag, will it induce labour?' I would say, maybe it would'. He had us both giggling, though the mw standing behind him looked ready to explode with rage
Have to say, ECV was fucking horrendous. I had to ask him to stop. It was the most uncomfortable and unusual procedure ever. It didn't work and LO moved straight back to where she'd come from. They're going to try ECV again next tues. If that doesn't work, I'm booked in for cs on 15th. My bday on 19th

Deeeja · 01/09/2009 21:34

Oh Blue, so sorry to hear that.
I came here especially hoping to hear it had worked for you.
I can't have ECV, have had two c.s already, so not suitable. I am off to consultant appointment tomorrow morning, to book date for my c.s probably. I know this lo has not turned, seems to go from breech to transverse and back again. She is a stubborn little madam .
I have psyched myself up for it now, have added big cotton pants to my bag!
It is kind of exciting to know the definate day I will be meeting her.
There is still a chance that ECV may work for you the next time, but c.s is not all bad, some people recover very quickly.
Good luck to everyone!

blue76 · 02/09/2009 07:23

Thank you Deeeja - I'm psyching myself up for cs too now. LO seems very comfortable this way around! Little monkey. Let us know how you get on today and good luck! One of my friends had her third cs 2 months ago and was back at work after 6 weeks

Back to work today for 3 days and really not looking forward to telling my boss that I won't be there after friday. Reckon he had a bit of a cheek expecting me to work til I was full term anyway!

Good luck to all the labouring ladies!

LadyStealthPolarBear · 02/09/2009 08:41

sorry to hear that blue, hope it either works next time or you get a CS date soon. Can't believe you're still working!!

Gonnabamumma · 02/09/2009 09:04

Hey Blue, sorry the ECV didn't work for you - was sending turning vibes (clearly not very psychic)

SprinkleofStardust · 02/09/2009 11:09

Sorry the ECV hasn't worked Blue, still another chance before the cs though so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and send turning vibes!!

Yes your boss does have a lot of cheek expecting you to work to full term, you should start your ML when you want to not when your boss decides!!

Stealth I've just read in my notes about engagement I thought 5/5 would mean fully engaged and 0/5 free but it's the other way round!! So 3/5 means 'lower but most is still above the brim' although I asked my MW if I was fully engaged and she said 'yes, I can't see him moving any further down now until the birth' but then in my notes she's put 3/5 so that would indicate he could still go further down surely???? It's so confusing!!! Oh well, I'll just trust my LO I'm sure he knows what he's doing!!

LadyStealthPolarBear · 02/09/2009 11:37

ikwym SoS think it's an art rather than a science! I've also been told they can un-engage - really hope that doesn't happen! Never mind, will all end in a baby

bigbang · 02/09/2009 14:27

Sorry to hear the EVC hasn't worked blue I hope she moves before next tues or that it works next time.

I had a panic this morning, went for a mw appt and was told the baby felt breech. Two of them checked me out and couldn't be sure, so sent me for a scan. They wanted me to go then and there, as I have been having pains for a while now they thought if I went into labour tonight I couldn't have a hb etc so better safe than sorry. Also wanted it asap so I could have EVC today if it was- cue major panic from me! So rushed up to hospital with ds, no money, food, nappies or anything to the MAU for a scan. Mw there had a quick feel and said nope, its head down for sure! She scanned me anyway and sure enough head is right down in my pelvis and spine nicely positioned too. Huge sigh of relief.

The mws seem to think it could be any day now because of the cramps/contractions I have been having for a week or so now, but I am not so sure. We shall see anyway. Hopefully not today as I need to clean and do loads of washing! Moses basket still no where to be seen . The poor baby will have to sleep in a draw I think.

Hope everyone is well.

bigbang · 02/09/2009 14:30

Drawer I mean

ladylush · 02/09/2009 14:53

Happy belated bday blinder
Blue - I read that a lot of babies turn back to breach after ECV. Interesting that they want to stay in that position isn't it. I had a CS due to dd being breach and me having no amniotic fluid. It was tough for the first week to two weeks but now I feel fine and am able to resume normal life inc. exercising. Best of all my bits are in tact I found sex very painful for months after my vaginal birth with ds (episotomy/ventouse). Having said that, I'd have preferred a vaginal delivery but since there was no choice I took comfort in the fact there were at least some positives
Any mums got any tips for a windy baby? Dd is an angel during the day but at night is transformed into a baby possessed. Poor thing gets painful wind and seems to be straining as if to poo but doesn't. Then after grunting, straining and generally protesting all morning she sleeps beautifully most of the day (after feeds) despite not opening bowels/bringing up wind.
It's very strange. I don't think it's colic as ds had that and cried all evening/night - she doesn't cry unless she's hungry. I've been giving her infacol at night but can't see much of a difference. I'll be glad when ds is back at school so that I can get some sleep in the daytime.

mummyhill · 02/09/2009 15:32

Ladylush Ask your hv about baby massage. I found it great for relaxing ds enough to pass wind etc.

Well I had a fun morning too. Went to the hospital for my appointment with endocrine team to be told thyroid function ok. Then got shoved through to midwives to have bp, urine tested and be measured. They decided I needed to see sho as still measuring big for dates (although in line with previous measurements so shouldn't of been a worry). He decided he couldn't tell which way baby was presented and demanded that I had a scan to see where baby was and check growth. I told him I knew she was head down and has been since the last growth scan. I would of known if she had moved that much cause I would of been screaming in pain the size of my little monster! He didn't believe me so I duly hobbled acros corridor for a scan to be told I was right baby is indeed head down. Estimated current weight is 8lb 9oz which means this one won't be much bigger than ds even if she does go over by the same amount. S.H.O. then decided to fret about GTT which I told him I have had and it was fine, he then queried thyroid and I had to point out that I had just seen the endo team and they were perfectly happy. He then starts muttering about bringing the baby early and looked quite shocked when I told him to think again. Unless he could give me a valid medical reason there is no way he is inducing early or whipping me in for a section. I explained that ds was 8lb 12 oz and that from their predictions I couldn't see this baby being much bigger therefore I will see them at 40 weeks if nothing has happened then they can book me in for an induction at 42 weeks and not before thanks very much!

I don't think he is used to being told to go away and behave himself, he looked quite shocked to come across a woman who knew what she was on about, what she wanted and wasn't afraid to tell him!
