rb3 - I'm in sort of the same boat. DD took a while to conceive so we assumed it would take a while this time as well but this is the second month of trying. Tbh, we weren't even trying this month because we were poorly so decided not to bother properly - I think we only 'did the deed' once so I'm still in shock a bit!

suey2 and Bessie123 - I might have to have an elective c-section as well. I had a third degree tear last time so they suggested I might need a CS next time round. I'm not sure yet, but will talk it over with my MW when I see her.

Bessie123 · 16/09/2009 11:03

OUCH

Spirael · 16/09/2009 11:08

Hi all, thanks for the advice on cheese!

If anyone's around, I could do with some calming words of wisdom right now... Apologies for TMI, but I've been having some brownish spotting since yesterday evening, and it's been getting progressively heavier - to the point of just starting to knicker stain. I've also started having what feels like light period pains, all across the middle of my abdomen rather than the sides or back.

If this is my period then it'd be four days late from normal - I'm usually pretty clockwork. The light spotting and cramps is usually how I start my period, unfortunately. However I took another HPT last night when I started spotting and it showed up a really faint positive.

I think I'll be heading into the NHS drop in centre at lunchtime to try and get someone to take me seriously. Though I'm not sure if they can do anything this early? Until I can head there, can anyone offer any words of advise? Am I miscarrying, was this a chemical pregnancy? I guess I might be leaving this thread, if so.

I guess maybe my complete lack of symptoms was a problem after all.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Bessie123 · 16/09/2009 11:12

Spirael - go to a&e. Good luck, hope it's all ok. If it helps, I had no symptoms and bleeding at around 8 weeks with dd, it was all fine.

newmomma · 16/09/2009 11:17

Hi Spirael

I'm not sure exactly what any of your spotting etc symptoms might mean but i'm here if you need...

I have to say that I had period-type pains for quite a few weeks at the beginning of my pregnancy last time - its quite normal apparently. Everything starts stretching etc to accommodate things. And can be quite uncomfortable.

You can also get something called 'implantation bleeding' apparently - which quite often occurs when you would normally be menstruating (often confused as a period supposedly) when things implant into your womb. I didn't have any bleeding before so couldn't tell you whether the bllod would be red/brown etc but I know that it would be about the right time for you.

Never heard of a chemical pregnancy, but get down the docs and see if they can help - I believe they can do hcg blood tests etc to see whether your levels are progressing as they should.

Best of luck - fingers crossed for everything turning out ok. Let us know if you get any news hunny.

xxx

I was wondering whether it could be an implantation bleed, but I had cramps on Monday 7th which I thought was implantation, given my dates. Is it possible for the bleed to take over a week to appear? It is brown, so hopefully nothing fresh...

Alternatively, I guess I can cling to the hope that some people still have normal periods for the whole time, and can still have things turn out ok. Maybe that's what's happening? The fact the HPTs are still so faint though is really worrying me.

I'll head to the NHS drop in clinic first as soon as I can go on lunch and see what they say. Then if necessary the A&E at LGI is a short walk around the corner, so I can head there next.

Any ideas what I should tell my boss, if I disappear for lunch and don't come back?? I have a friend/colleague coming with me, so I can send a message if necessary.

memorylapse · 16/09/2009 12:09

Spirael..it could be an implantation bleed..I know in the first week or so..I had brown discharge..then cramps..then last week I had a bleed,..touch wood, scan last friday showed bean was ok..wont be happy until I see the scan next week.

Ive started on the cyclizine..feel terrible doing it..worried sick that Ive condemmed my little bean to death or having terrible abnormalities..but Im so poorly..Ive no choice..fingers crossed..Ive kept my breakfast down so far..GP said they dont like prescribing anything..because theres no data to confirm its safe (for obvious reasons)..but she said..theres no documented evidence it increases the risk of birth defects and that cyclizine is the drug of choice..ho hum

cupcakefairy · 16/09/2009 12:21

Afternoon ladies. I'm very very tentatively joining you. I miscarried my first LO at 8 wks in April but determined to have a positive attitude towards this one so wanted to join you ladies. I had brown spotting from day one with last pg and not had that yet this time so hoping that's a good sign.

Am 5 weeks today, edd 19th May. I'm 24 and live in S.Wales with my wonderful dh, nice to meet you

LastTrainToNowhere · 16/09/2009 12:26

memorylapse cyclizine has been around for donkey's years. My mum took it when she was pregnant with me as the morning sickness was too much for her to bear...I came out fine . She didn't take it with her next pregnancies because the MS wasn't too bad.

Again I took cyclizine when pregnant with dd...after 8 weeks of relentless vomiting (10 times a day) I would have taken arsenic if I was promised the vomiting would stop. Thankfully dd is intelligent, pretty, and doesn't have a bad bone in her body .

Don't worry yourself too much. As long as the folic acid tablets stay inside, you and the baby will be fine

LuckyC · 16/09/2009 12:31

spirael God how nerve-wracking. Well done for staying calm. Good luck and lots of sticky beaniness to you. Let us know xxx

memorylapse · 16/09/2009 12:47

lasttrain..thats reassuring..thanks..sadly Ive not been able to keep the folic acid down

HK72 · 16/09/2009 13:02

Hi All,

So glad to read all the info'-I'm not alone. I found out I was pregnant 12 days ago (I'm about 5 weeks). Started spotting which lasted for a day & a half. Have had pelvic pain-so severe at the weekend I was admitted to hospital. Got discharged on Monday after a scan which was inconclusive-I have to wait 'til next Thursday now and I'm all over the place. This is my first, I'm 37 with a history of endometriosis so always thought I wouldn't conceive naturally. I don't have many friends who have/want babies so feel a bit isolated.

suey2 · 16/09/2009 13:15

Yeay bessie!

Spirael all the books say not to worry if the bleeding's brown. Very common apparently. If red and clots, worry

MiniMarmite · 16/09/2009 13:19

Just got BFP (after 4 slightly smaller FPs over the weekend)!

Congratulations everyone!

Spirael · 16/09/2009 13:56

Hi all, thanks for the support.

Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be leaving you all. The doctor at the NHS centre basically said that I almost certainly had a chemical pregnancy that never took and the bleeding is the start of my period. The spotting has been getting progressively heavier and there's been red mingled in with the brown now.

The doctor said there's no tests and no scans that they're able (willing?) to do, and that I just have to wait it out for a week or two then take another HPT then to see whether or not I'm still expecting. When/if it comes up negative, it means things never took in the first place and sometimes these things are just never meant to be, in her words.

Not a great situation to be in. I guess I'll just plug into my iPod this afternoon at work and try not to dissolve embarrasingly in front of my entire department! Already managed to do that once in front of my colleague a short while ago, which is quite enough for one day.

I almost wish I felt headachy, or sick, or anything. But I missed lunch while at the clinic and still feel fine, not even hungry...though a bit emotionally numb. Even the period cramps have stopped, so I really have no excuse to get myself sent home.

Hobnobfanatic · 16/09/2009 14:04

Good luck Spirael - don't necessarily think the worst. I haemorrhaged at 8 weeks with my last pg - bright red, watery, gushing blood - and when they scanned, there was still a heartbeat. I was so shocked - I was convinced I'd miscarried.

Good lluck to HK72 too - the waiting must be horrendous

Meanbeansmum · 16/09/2009 14:17

I feel so sick!!!!!!!!!!!! Too sick to read all the posts but wanted to say hi to all the newbies, congrats.xxx

Bessie123 · 16/09/2009 14:40

meanbeansmum - did you come on the feb 08 thread? I think you had a daughter called Isabella (or did I make that up?)

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/09/2009 14:41

Spirael, fingers crossed for you, just try to get through the next week or so, keep taking your folic acid and rest. I really hope it's good news.

memorylapse, try asking your doc if you could maybe get folic acid jabs instead? but tbh with my last pregnancy I didn't find out til about 10 or 11 weeks, I'd been eating crap, obv NOT taking folic acid, and he was fine. Try not to worry.

meanbeansmum, sorry you're feeling poorly too, have you tried seabands? I read somewhere that nibbling slices of cucumber soaked in water in the fridge can help with morning sickness too.

Welcome to cupcakefairy, h72 and minimarmite, hope it all goes well for you!

I'm hungry but I don't want to eat anything. Very stressed today about everything, it's got me all wound up inside and I'd love to see a friendly face.

Jan9ne · 16/09/2009 14:53

Hi everyone,
This really will be my last post. I had another scan this morning and i have been diagnosed with a mmc. No yolk, no fetus, just an empty sac. i have to go in next week to have a 'managed miscarriage'. I feel ok really. The fact that there was nothing in the sac has helped, no little dead fetus or anything.
Hopefully i will have a successful pg next time.

All the best to you, thanks for helping me thru this and good luck xxxx

memorylapse · 16/09/2009 15:32

Jan9ne..Im so sorry

Meanbeansmum · 16/09/2009 15:44

Jan9ne, I am so sorry. Thinking of you.x

Bessie, I may have done but I can't find the thread now (I have looked think I'm going mad). DD is 19 months now, she's a little monster.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/09/2009 15:47

Sorry to hear that Jan9ne. Very best of luck for when you decide to try again. x
