Thanks girls, for letting me start this thread - bloody MACs (obviously could be user error!)

Went to the docs yesterday and he thinks may be a Feb 1st baby - but 2nd babies are often early - hope they are as dd was 9 days late - hence I am in the Oct rather than Sept post-natal thread!

Hope to hear from the midwife soon as I will want to book a CVS as I am now 38 - had one with dd last year.

Has anyone got a closer age difference that I will hopefully have - there will only be nearly 16 months between dd and dd2/ds - eeeek!

Welcome to all the other newies

*same

Evening all. Well I've had a busy long weekend so far. Saw midwife on Friday (at 4 weeks exactly - don't think she was used to seeing people quite that early!) for booking in. She's given me a due date of 31st Jan (same as you MM!), but I know that it's wrong, as doesn't take into account that I ov'ed on day 18. Anyway, I'm getting an early scan due to mm/c last year, so hopefully that will confirm the correct date as Feb 3rd.

Just back from visiting parents and telling them the news. They were really pleased, but I think trying not to get too excited in case things go wrong again.

Getting a little bit tired now, but not sleeping well at night either, but otherwise no symptoms except on and off tummy pains and a few too many wees!

MM - prepacked salad was a few years ago the biggest cause of food poisoning nationally, so guess that's why it's advised against.

Sweetkitty - I'm a Leo too [roaring emoticon]. Hope your move went well and have fun catching up on a week's worth of posts!

Right - off to bed if I can tear DH away from the TV. Hope you all have a good Bank Holiday.

milosmum · 30/05/2005 07:59

tabs- they never take into account your ov date- silly really! cant believe they ve given you the same date as moi!!!- thanks for the info on salads!!

Hope you are all having a lovely bank holiday. im getting nervous now as got to take another sample to the docs 2morrow(it better be +). Keep doing tests in the morning and every one says +......

Mumfun · 30/05/2005 09:38

Hi

I think the prob with prepacked salads is that they can harbour listeria - not nice!

Did anyone see the MMR prog last night. I was shocked and saddened by the little girl born after her mum had rubella - very very sad - hadnt realised what rubella realy meant.

Also thinking re tests what to do. Im 40 so my risks are high statistically - we'll have the nuchal and if its good like last time Ill be soooooooo happy - if not dont know what we'll do - have to make a decision then.

Hope everyones well. Im realy rough but so much better than 1st preg thank goodness.

Bye for now

MF

milosmum · 30/05/2005 10:46

ladies- ive just started bleeding- not heavy but........bleeding all the same..........

Mak · 30/05/2005 10:55

Milosmum, what sort of bleeding is it and do you have any pains? I bled at weeks 5 and 6, my consultant called it a sugar bleed, it was old, brown blood (sorry tmi)and only happened in the mornings. There are lots of bits in the pregnancy thread, which offer lots of reassurance, which also say it's very common. If you're feeling really uncomfortable it might be worth getting in touch with your mw.

milosmum · 30/05/2005 11:10

it really red but no pains, going to call NHS Direct..... seems strange i have no pains... its not heavy- little bit more than spotting

hotmama1 · 30/05/2005 11:34

5{ing a really quick post. Apparently, it is really common to bleed about 6 weeks - doesn't mean that you are necessarily miscarrying. This bleeding happened to a really good friend and my sis (who is now 30 weeks pregnant).

Ring the midwife emergency number, if no help get yourself down to whichever hospital you would intend to give birth in (but ring them first) my sis did this and she had a scan as well and everything was O.K.

Hopefully, everything goes O.K [crossed fingers icon]

Hope that it stops soon, MM - I bled with DS when I was 10 weeks, brown old blood, and from what I read then, bleeding without pain is not too worrying. Lots of women continue to have period-type bleeds when pg - I hope this is what's happening to you and all is well.

I rang NHS Direct when I bled with DS (was a Saturday morning) and went to see a GP at hospital, then had a scan later in the week at the early pregnancy unit.

Thinking of you - make sure you get it checked out, but fingers crossed it's nothing serious. Love HM xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

milosmum · 30/05/2005 12:54

thanks- you really are all wonderful! the bleeding has now stopped completly and it changed very quickly to brown blood.... i ve called nhs direct- the nurse is calling me back- will keep you informed.... still no pain, when it tarted i put a pany liner on and there wasn t a spot on there when i took it off (so that shows how little i was bleeding),, maybe a good sign????

hunkermunker · 30/05/2005 12:56

That sounds like a very good sign, hun. Really pleased to hear it. Still get yourself checked out though - I'd ask for an early scan for reassurance.

milosmum · 30/05/2005 13:31

nurse just called back and she said its not setting off any alarm bells with her. ive to rest for the rest of the day and still go to the doctors 2morrow to take in the sample. she said to mention it to the midwife and she will send me for an early scan. still cautiously optomistic.... sounds better though doesn t it?

sorry to bug you all but as i said in an earlier post dont have my mum around and i could really do with her now...

teuch · 30/05/2005 14:12

Hi folks,

I am skipping between TTC, due in Feb and here at the moment!

Well, I said last week after getting my BFP that I would hold out til this week to inform docs - just nervous as it was so early I suppose. Anyway, having had a week to sink in I am now nervously excited and hoping to let docs know on thurs.

My 'due' date will be 26th Jan although I reckon it should be around 31st - 2nd Feb (hence the jumping to Feb thread ).

Hope everyone is well, sending positive vibes to milosmum!

Tabs · 30/05/2005 16:04

Milosmum - sounds like you've had a very stressful day . Glad to hear that the bleeding has stopped now and hope it all turns out to have been something and nothing. Hope you're enjoying your rest now .

spangles · 30/05/2005 20:22

Milosmum
I too ad a small bleed last weekend so I rang the MW who booked me in for a scan. Thankfully when I had the scan the heartbeat was there for me to see which was very reassuring. I think that you should mention it to Dr when you go tomorrow and see if he will refer you to early pg clinic so you get the reassurance you need. good luck.

hotmama1 · 30/05/2005 22:31

Milosmum - glad to hear that the bleeding has stopped and hope everything remains hunkydory.

Spangles - in reply to your earlier thread re CVS and amnios - they basically tell you the same thing but there are differences.

A CVS is done between 11-13 weeks and cells are taken from the placenta - a needle is inserted (after local anaesthetic has been applied) either through the tum or through the vagina - depending on where the placenta is lying - mine was done through the tum last time. I think how you get results depends on where you are etc. I got a phone call the next day giving me the provisional results re Downs also the cells were cultured and after 3 weeks I got another phonecall to give final results and I could find out the sex if I wanted.

I've never had an amnio, but I believe it is similar to a CVS but amniotic fluid is extracted as opposed to placental cells and the cells are cultured so you don't know any results until a couple of weeks - amnios are done 16 weekish?

Miscarriage risks are 2%ish for CVS and 1%ish for amnios - this is obviously a major risk which has to be taken into account - I did and luckily was O.K. HTH

ladies i think ill be leaving you- did a test this morning - its negative- think the beanie died- im off to the doctors.........

Mumfun · 31/05/2005 08:45

SO sorry Milos mum - what a horrible time for you. let us know what happens.

thinking of you

Chuffed · 31/05/2005 09:26

Hugs Milosmum, thinking of you, hopefully it's just a faulty test.

Feel pretty crappy myself this morning but purely nausea wise.

spangles · 31/05/2005 09:28

milosmum
So sorry for you, See what Dr says and If I were you I would take the positive tests with me to show him/her. Hope everything goes ok

spangles · 31/05/2005 09:31

Thanks Hotmama for help with amnios and CVS. Not sure what to do at all now. think if I do go for tests it will be amnio coz theres less risk involved.

Chuffed · 31/05/2005 09:51

spangles I had an amnio with dd in 2003. I had it at 15wks. My hospital had under .5% risk which still doesn't make it much easier to make the decision.
It felt uncomfortable but didn't hurt a lot and I made myself have complete bed rest for 2 days afterwards. We 'paid' for a special lab to get us tentative results quickly I had it on Wed and results on Friday afternoon. The proper results took 3 weeks. We never did get charged the £90 for having the quick results.

Mak · 31/05/2005 10:05

Milosmum, so sorry. wait and see what the dr says. [[[[[[[[[[[[hugs]]]]]]]]]]]]

Rachey1969 · 31/05/2005 10:40

So sorry to hear about your weekend Milosmum - I hope you've had a scan by now - it could have been a fluke test, it's still early days and bleeding doesn't always mean it's lost. Since I've starting using MN, I can't believe how common early bleeding is in healthy pregnancies. I had it myself at 9 weeks with ds1. Thinking of you today and hoping you get good news.

Angelcake - thanks for the vote of confidence! I'm not an expert - I've just done it three (now four) times and it's amazing what you pick up in 12 yrs of motherhood! (I feel like an old crone now!)

Told dp parents yesterday - I cried, his mum cried, it really lifted me! Lots of positive, happy vibes. I know exactly what you mean Hotmama - I'm expecting a much more subdued, concerned reaction from my own mum.

I have a booking appointment with the midwife tomorrow morning at home, I'm still not sure about testing, will discuss my personal risk with her - it sounds like a whole lot of worrying! I'm not really sure I could terminate a baby at a late stage and they can't tell you about the other 99% of things that can go wrong. It's a very personal decision and I think everyone needs to make an informed choice. It's very hard - too much choice?

How is everyone else?

milosmum · 31/05/2005 11:30

thanks for all the kind words- you all are great .

basically in limbo now....... the docs thinks i am going to miscarry. i have to check every day. if i haven t sarted spotting/bleeding by monday i ve got to take a test to the docs and they will do a super sensitive one. if that is + they will send me for an early scan. if i have a proper bleed then obiously the beanie died.

i just hope i dont get to the stage of an early scan for them to tell me that it has no heartbeat- id rather i just bleed now and get it over with, if its going to happen................

truly upset.....
