Thanks girls, for letting me start this thread - bloody MACs (obviously could be user error!)

Went to the docs yesterday and he thinks may be a Feb 1st baby - but 2nd babies are often early - hope they are as dd was 9 days late - hence I am in the Oct rather than Sept post-natal thread!

Hope to hear from the midwife soon as I will want to book a CVS as I am now 38 - had one with dd last year.

Has anyone got a closer age difference that I will hopefully have - there will only be nearly 16 months between dd and dd2/ds - eeeek!

Welcome to all the other newies

Georgie hugs!!!!!
When you feel up to it write a letter and then send it on. I'd write some positive feedback about the nurses etc as it I suppose it balances things out and will come across more objectively against the doctor and how she may need more training on empathy. So glad everything is OK now though.
Both dh and I are from NZ so it does make it easier in a way to go - what with today's happenings as well I think we have done the right thing.

Rachey1969 · 22/07/2005 12:20

Horseshoe - so glad to hear baby still safe and things improving, will keep fingers crossed for you, please take it easy!

Georgie - massive hugs! What an awful ordeal. Agree with Chuffed about the letter - you should definitely make a complaint - doctors like this need some training in bedside manner and sensitivity.

Chuffed - good for you! Hope you will still keep in touch with us. I'd be out there like a shot with my family if it weren't for ex-d.

Lyra - my mcare stuff is fine, I'm living in the denim skirt and the vests/t-shirts. The black wrap straight dress is perfect to wear over trousers as a long top, almost sexy! I bought a couple of tops from the shop's sale but they are far too pretty for me, I look ridiculous so they are going back. I did notice some swimwear in teh sale you might be interested in for your hols. Will have a look at BM!

On the topic of Immunisations, let me add my twopenneth - I used to work as a medical researcher and I have never seen any evidence that could convince me not to give my 3 the MMR. A recent large longitudinal study from Japan found no link. Much research is often very flawed and based on only a few kids who are already ill - maybe only 5! (ethically it is rare - and hard - to take blood from healthy kids just for research purposes). A close friend of mine had a healthy daughter at birth. At nine weeks she caught measles and as a result of this received brain damage including autism. I strongly believe the risk of complications from getting the disease is far worse than from the jab. I understand your fear especially with a family history but please do immunise your kids somehow(singley or MMR) Mumps is rife round here now.

Some more bad news - my friend who is also 16 weeks and has had an awful time so far and only just decided to keep baby, has had a scan which found a lump under baby's arm (mine didn't even look for more than 10 secs!). They don't know what it is and she's going to Cardiff for a specialist scan on MOnday. They say it may be a chromosonal problem and that she should have an amnio. Obviously she is really worried - anyone any idea what it might be?

sweetkitty · 22/07/2005 14:47

chuffed and horseshoe thinking of you both ((((hugs))))

I'm feeling pretty low today as well as my SPD is back and is killing me, I know I will have 25 weeks of this now.

On a brighter note DD was one on Weds and we had a get together for her and she was really spoiled, can't believe my baby is one. She's growing up so fast.

lyra41 · 23/07/2005 08:55

Sweetkitty

I didn't realise u had spd last time. How bad did it get? A good friend of mine had it too, and ended up on crutches and lying down an awful lot for the last 4 or 5 months. How will u manage with dd? Thinking of u.

Ds's birthday party today, but now he's (nearly) 13 he doesn't want much parental involvement, apart from the paying of course. So quite low key and hassle free I hope - they're meeting at Pizza Hut at 2 then going to see War of the Worlds at 3:30, possibly playing cricket after that if the weather holds.

Spangles - how is ds2's chicken pox? I'm glad the weather's coooled down for him - the hotter it is, the more spots come out.

Thanks for the Aveeno recommendation for my excema. got it about a week ago and it does seem to be helping. I think the cool weather's helping too.

Went to the Blooming Marvellous shop yesterday and got some good stuff in the sale - 3 tops and some jeans, as well as a tankini swimsuit. I look SO pregnant in the maternity jeans, but I like it. Better than looking fat.

Just 3 days of work now till the long summer break, and I can't wait. I'm sick of shopping, washing and cleaning, so looking forward to going away to stay with mil in Spain too. Dh and I have managed to wangle 3 nights away whilst we're there too, so can't wait for a bit of child free time, much as I love the little angels.

Anyone else going away soon?

spangles · 23/07/2005 09:58

Hello.
DS2 seems to have had chicken pox worse than DS1 did, he has more spots and has been off colour.. worse at night, but I know it could have been a lot worse so am counting my blessings.
georgieM.. hugs to you. xxx I would complain too.. Whats the point of working in a caring profesion if you dont care! The Dr obviously needs a refresher course in empathy and bedside manners.
I think the MS is easing off a bit... still feel nauseaus but not just as bad but the feeling knackered bit continues.
Got loads of housework to do... there are about 4 loads of washing to do, loads upstairs to put away ( i really hate putting it away)
2 weeks of dust on every surface and a major shopping trip to tesco to be done today, but I am still sat here dossing, drinking lucozade
I really must go and get cracking
Enjoy your weekend

Rachey1969 · 25/07/2005 13:47

Sorry to hear about the chicken pox and spd! A friend of mine was on crutches for months with it - poor u!

Unfortunately it looks like bad news for my friend - she was scanned again today and they think it's a cystic hygroma. Many nasty enlarged lymph nodes on neck/face/chest. Has a 50% chance of being associated with a chromosonal disorder so she had an amnio today as well. The really bad news is it looks like there is fluid on the baby's lung because the heart is working too hard

Will keep you informed.

Hope everyone is well.

sweetkitty · 25/07/2005 17:23

Thankfully my SPD never got as bad that I needed to use crutches, don't know if it is SPD as it's at the back not the front, will ask midwife on Thursday when I have my 16 week check up.

Starting to feel a bit more human now, bump definately showing although still looks like a spare tyre (or 3) trying to hold off the dreaded maternity jeans as long as possible, my normal jeans still quite comfy so far.

BarefootMama · 25/07/2005 17:58

Hi there - you wont know me! i am on the February thread but often lurk and read yours and wish i were on here instead!

I am due 06/02/06 so might start fibbing and pretend i am having it a weeks early!

Its so much more interesting here!

Eshay · 25/07/2005 20:04

Hi BarefootMama,

It's always a good idea to lurk in the next or previous thread as you just can't tell when Bub is going to make an appearance so feel free to lurk here and join in our discussions. I seem to remember several of us saying they're keeping track of the December or February threads as well.

BarefootMama · 25/07/2005 20:59

Thanks! I have my nuchal on thursday so shall lurk until i feel more confident about things!

Tabs · 25/07/2005 21:10

Hey BarefootMama - what's wrong with our thread then eh? We've been very chatty today.
You're not the only one who lurks on here you know, so be careful what you say!

Rachey1969 · 26/07/2005 06:35

Hey feel free to join us! I'm due on Jan 4th so although I could lurk on the December thread to be honest I'd better stay here as I am ALWAYS two weeks late and others will fall around me first!

I'm still bloody retching in the mornings, my retch trigger seems to be set very low iykwim.

Still really sad about yesterday's bad news re: friend and cystic hygroma. Was really tearful yesterday and trying not to upset her

Chuffed · 26/07/2005 09:13

You Feb mums are welcome to lurk, my dd is a March baby and as she was due right at the end I assumed she'd be late so joined the April thread and she was born in March but I'm still with the April thread as you sort of feel as though you know them after going through the whole pregnancy.
I've still got a strong gag reflex too Rachey, have been sick twice now after 12 wks and only once before - strange it seems to hit me at about 11am.
Such bad news about your friend Rachey after the stress of whether to keep it to start with and now to find this must be quite surreal.
We have been soooo busy trying to plan our trips, giving notice etc at the mo. Starting to work out our itinerary for our travels which is such a big job but will be so worth it when we are actually doing it I just know it. Have got my 20wk scan booked now for 19wks and 4days so that we can have longer travelling.

Mumfun · 26/07/2005 11:44

Hi

So sorry re your friend Rachey - some people just get everything thrown at them - Ive a friend like that who seems to get everything bad even though shes a fab person. No wonder youre upset.

Refelxologist stopped the sickness but if I do too much and get too tired it does try to creep back at times. Now got confirmation of piles this am - what a delight and only at 15 weeks - fab. Maybe they might disappear if Im really healthy but just about to go to parents for 3 weeks - maybe not!

ANyway dissapearing for 3 weeks so looking forward to catching up when back.

Feel Im a month bigger than last time. Just hopeing this baby is not too ginormous.

Hope all keep well and happy.

MF

Rachey1969 · 26/07/2005 15:34

After all she's been through, I just can't believe it. Her dp still being an arse, even now. I wonder how different she will feel if she has to terminate the baby now because it just won't make it versus if she had done a couple of weeks ago as she nearly did for social reasons? And how different she will feel when mine is born? I had all these fantasies of us pushing our buggies together...

It's also given me the heebie-geebies about not having the triple test. Imagine if she hadn't pushed for a dating scan, this would have been discovered at 20 weeks. I just want to have mine now and see a healthy heart/head etc Roll on August 24th!

Does anyone else ever feel like you're pushing your luck with healthy, bright kids?

sweetkitty · 26/07/2005 20:36

Last time I was on the Due in August 2004 thread and I annoyed all the 2nd+ time mums by being the first one to deliver on 20th July!!! I'm due 14th January this time so I am thinking it will be January although DP is going for 31st December!

loomer · 28/07/2005 17:58

Hello all - long time no posting for me, as my Mac (at home) can no longer open this thread - for no apparent reason - which is mighty frustrating, I've really missed your news.

Luckily I have a PC at work which I can see it on, but haven't told anyone here the news about my bump yet, and so have had to stay on late tonight and wait for everyone else to go home! Have just spent half an hour catching up on the whole thread...

I feel very blessed that I've had no problems at all so far - hardly any 'side effects' - and saw a happy, jumpy little bean on the 12 week scan and heard a healthy heartbeat with MW last night (159bpm... "just like a good rave tune" so my DH commented!).

However, no posts for two whole days? Am I missing something???! Is there another thread lurking elsewhere, or is everyone just too knackered/hot/sick/pissed off to post?

Hello to all the newbies, and hugs to all those who are troubled... am feeling very lucky.

loomer · 28/07/2005 18:00

Ooooh, forgot to say, I'm considering giving hynobirthing a go... it's actually how my mum had me (pretty radical for her, back in those days!).

Does anyone else have any experience of it, or is anyone else thinking about it?

Rachey1969 · 28/07/2005 18:24

Hi Loomer, nice to see you! I think people have fits and starts on here - also holiday season, it's probably time to start a new thread now we are all second trimester.

If you can get to grips with hypno-birthing, let me know! BTW is this your first time or is it hope over experience?!

Latest news on friend with (possible) cystic hygroma - amnio didn't show any of the four major chromosonal disorders, full results in 3 weeks but obviously she is still very worried about the fluid on the lungs and has another scan next Tuesday.

sweetkitty · 28/07/2005 18:59

16 weeks today saw lovely midwife wish she could deliver me, she said she was gutted that we were planning to move as she would have loved to be at my homebirth!

Bump is growing well and heartbeat was pounding away always reassuring to hear it.

Nausea has gone just trying to pick up my appetite now.

Midwife also said my backache did not sound like SPD as it wasn't at the front of my pelvis and I could separate my legs more likely to be sacro iliac pain if it gets worse she will refer me to a physio but it won't be to later in the pregnancy.

loomer · 29/07/2005 08:39

Yay! There are some people lurking after all!

It's my first PG Rachey, so I may be barking up completely the wrong tree, but I thought if I at least learn the technique then it's available for me to use during labour if I feel up to it. My mum has nothing but praise for it, but having said that I was her third child, so she had some idea of what to expect by that stage.

By the way, what is SPD?

Chuffed · 29/07/2005 09:19

sweetkitty is your dh coming around to the homebirth thing. Our friends had one for their first and it went really smoothly.
Nothing changed much here just absolutely exhausted this week with so much to organise in such a short time. Can feel the days just ticking away.
Am almost 16wks and can't believe that I'm still having odd bursts of sudden nausea where I have to grab a fruitburst candy when I had none with dd. Hope they don't continue all the way through.
