Thanks girls, for letting me start this thread - bloody MACs (obviously could be user error!)

Went to the docs yesterday and he thinks may be a Feb 1st baby - but 2nd babies are often early - hope they are as dd was 9 days late - hence I am in the Oct rather than Sept post-natal thread!

Hope to hear from the midwife soon as I will want to book a CVS as I am now 38 - had one with dd last year.

Has anyone got a closer age difference that I will hopefully have - there will only be nearly 16 months between dd and dd2/ds - eeeek!

Welcome to all the other newies

Thats great news Eshay you must be so relieved.

I'm still fitting into my size 10 skirts I bought for the summer thought I would get some wear out them whilst I can because in a few weeks I'll have no chance of fitting into them. So chuffed I'm a size 10 again I wasn't that size pre DD now I'm going to get all fat again - nevermind I'm looking forward to having a bump again.

Didn't feel too bad yesterday hope the sick feeling is easing off.

Elly1801 · 29/06/2005 13:15

Interesting to read all the tips and stuff. On that note, someone told me the evening roundedness is due to extra water retention at that time of day?

Eshay, so glad to hear your news re. DH. Much relief, I'm sure. What language are you translating into/from?

Another kind of 'off-thread' question for Lyra, we're off to Edinburgh on Sat too, and my very pregnant (8mths) friend is staying with us and determined to join in as much as she can! Where are you camping?

Elly

Chuffed · 29/06/2005 14:20

sweetkitty I am still in most of my size 10 stuff too mainly stuff that sits low on my waist is fine, but that is why the longer tops are slightly better.
I just went into BHS actually and they have some quite good basics things like 3/4 trousers, skirts with the nice flat normal front but elastic at the back like old ladies wear but I figure that still gives me nicer silouette than elastic all the way around.

lyra41 · 29/06/2005 15:58

Elly

We're staying at Mortonhall campsite in East Edinburgh. How about you?

GeorgieM · 30/06/2005 18:50

Hi there. Just thought I'd catch up with you. Seems as if everyone is blooming. Am waiting for my mat gear to arrive as trousers being secured by safety pin as can't do button up!

Has anyone else started suffering from spots? Got a face full of them. Not attractive.

Also really hormonal and paranoid. Just had argument with ex-h.

Rachey, does your ex-h still interact with your friends? It's driving me mad. He only met them thru me and now he's 'best pals' with two of my friends husbands. Am fed up with plastering smile on face and saying that of course I don't mind him being invited to things. Sometimes it would be nice if people weren't so damn PC. I know he'll twist our conversation so I come out looking like dirt and everyone will think I've been mean to him. Arrgghh.

Sorry girls, don't want to dump on you.

Off to sulk and lick my wounds!

lyra41 · 01/07/2005 06:27

Morning all

Here I am, awake much too early again, so I thought I'd see how y'll are. Quiet really, by the looks of things.

I've just watered half the pot plants in the garden in anticipation of being away for hte weekend and had to stop as its started to rain! Grr! I needn't have bothered. oh well, I did actually enjoy visiting all my plants and seeing how they're doing.

We are off to Edinburgh camping this weekend, and that's partly why I'm up early - the excitement - what a big kid I am. Also could do with tidying up the kitchen so we don't come home to a mess as well as ghastly unpacking.

My bump seems to be getting more solid I think, especially from below. Even though Butter bean is still very small, I think my uterus much be swelling quite a lot. There's still quite a lot of blub on top though.... oh well, it will soon be amalgamated into the bump.

Haven't found anything decent maternity clothes wise on ebay - everthing seems to be bundles for £20 or whatever, and I don't want bundles, I've got enough bundles of unwanted clothes of my own, thank you very much!

I'll head for the shops on Monday if I've got time. Or maybe I'll just have another peek at the Mothercare sale now...

Have a good weekend all of you.

Chuffed · 01/07/2005 09:17

Have a good time this weekend lyra.
Georgie no ex-h but being on the other side is quite tough too if you actually like the other person, but you are quite entitled to have a good bitch on here that is what it is here for. My friend has cut off completely the friend and her dh who keeps in touch with her ex so the rest of us did have to choose.
I had terrible spots last time but touch wood they haven't been quite so bad, yet another sign that i think we are probably having a boy this time things have been so different.
Well off to grab some breakfast, absolutely shattered, spun this morning and it really feels like it has been a long week.

Elly1801 · 01/07/2005 09:46

Hi guys,

Have nice w/e's. Lyra, don't know that campsite but hope you have fun! We're taking train in - dh off buying tickets in advance today, am looking forward to it.

Got the m/wife coming on Sun am then scan on Monday. Am excited and a bit nervous. So definitely looking pregnant now, it's not a figment of my imagination! Eek! : )

Elly

sweetkitty · 01/07/2005 17:51

Had my scan this morning, all's well what a relief, only one on there as well! Have changed my due date to 14th January as well. I could have watched the screen all day.

Talked about wanting a homebirth but since we will probably move before I have this baby I will be under a different authority but midwife seemed to think I was an ideal candidate. DP still isn't too sure, cue loads of arguments to come I think.

Rachey1969 · 04/07/2005 12:49

Where is everyone?! It's my birthday 36 today. Not feeling too chipper, although ms/nausea has passed, I have a combination of chesty coughing/retching/indigestion that is resulting in yucky vomiting (sorry if tmi!) Very tired from work travelling at the mo (off to leicester tomorrow) and looking forward to nice meal out with dp tonight. I have started the odd glass of wine again now and I really need it!

Eshay - great news about dp, you must be relieved.

Georgie - My ex-h took most of our mutual friends with him (we were linked through the men being at school together) so it's not really an issue thankfully.

Lyra - how was Edinburgh - I've never been but am due to go next week for dp sister's graduation. Any tips on where to go? (I'm not taking the kids though)

Sweetkitty - I'm still considering a home birth, it really appeals to me as long as I can go into labour without prostin and the baby stays in a reasonable position! I am only 10 mins from hospital though.

lyra41 · 04/07/2005 13:32

Hi Rachey ##### HAPPY BIRTHDAY! ######
You young thing, you!

I was thinking that the thread had gone very quiet too, I guess everyone's busy at the moment.

Edinburgh was fab. Fantastic atmosphere, so moving, all those people (nearly 200K according to the news) wanting something good to be done to change the lives of other people. Camping was fine too, especially since it was sunny, and the kids loved it. Ear plugs were a must for getting to sleep though, as sound travels through canvas very easily!
I can recommend a nice cafe "Two thin Laddies" in the centre, but that's it I'm afraid as we spent the rest of the time on the rally and in the campsite.

I'm hoping for home birth too. It went really well last time with dd, I feel quite strongly that my hormones and instincts will work better at home. It's much easier to distract yourself from the pain too, I saved up videos of my favourite soap to watch, and that did the trick. I feel a bit uncertain about the kids seeing me in the second stage of labour though. If it happens when they're around I think I'll pack them off to friends round the corner till the baby's born. I think I'd be distracted by not wanting to worry them, and they would find it upsetting to see how much pain I'll be in, coz let's face it, that last hour or so is pretty ouchy!

I'm looking forward to getting our spare room ready to be a nursery again. It will need clearing out and decorating, so it won't be for a while. I'm thinking I might put a bed in there right from the start so that I can ensure dh doesn't have broken nights as well as me. That way one of us will be properly rested and able to take care of the others. Not sure about that though. Plenty of time to decide nearer the time.

Needless to say I'm still washing from the weekend, so I'd better get back to that, and I need to get some shopping in too.

See you later.

spangles · 04/07/2005 15:32

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHEY
Hope your enjoying your day and not working too hard. I dont know how you manage to handle your job, kids, housework on top of the feeling of being tired all the time... I dont work because I am at home with my 4 year old and 1 year old but I am still knackered!
I am 13 wks and 3 days today and I think the nausea is starting to ease off a bit (thank god)
Hope everyone is feeling well, I have bought a maternity skirt from next directory but its still a bit big yet but all my normal stuff is too tight, oh well I will soon be big and fat enough to fill it and then when this baby is born I shall have to do something about my weight coz I still have 3/4 of a stone to lose from my last pregnancy!
see ya all soon. xxx

GeorgieM · 04/07/2005 17:05

Hello one and all.

Rachey - Happy Birthday! Hope you're having a great day (apart from the sickness). Glass of wine sounds like a lovely birthday present!

Lyra - sounds as if Edinburgh was amazing. Was it v emotional, seeing all those people and being part of something so historic?

Spangle - I'm with you on the mat clothes. Normal ones are too small and maternity ones are just too big, but good god are they comfortable! Can put up with having to hoist them up every five seconds!

Chuffed - thanks. Always good to be reminded that there's another side. And it is good that we all get on, much better than WW3 between friends.

How's everyone else?

Rachey1969 · 05/07/2005 09:25

Thanks for the birthday greetings! We had a really nice meal - scallops, duck and a glass of Shiraz. Had some lovely jewellery from dp (and flowers - he's learning at last!) and some fluffy toys from the kids! (quite tasteful though, they are learning too!).

Spangles - believe me I am knackered! Luckily when I'm away with work I can delegate child responsibility to someone else - ex-h, dp or a friend and the kids are so good at being self-sufficient - tehy get themselves dressed and fed in teh morning. And housework... hmmm, what's that?! I do the bare minimum - kitchen, bathroom and again bribe the kids with pocket money to clear up and push the hoover round! Ironing is simply something other people do! I don't buy things that need ironing or I hang them up well!

Chuffed · 05/07/2005 09:50

Morning all, glad the birthday went well Rachey.
Well it has been a busy weekend for us. Know what you mean about the emotion from the weekend, it had me in tears just reading about the march. We went to Hyde Park and watched the people queueing to get into the concert and were able to hear quite a bit live and see the screen from a few points around the park (we live nearby). Watching the rest on TV made me feel emotional all over again.
On Sunday we spent a couple of hours in A&E as I was a bit afraid I was losing bubs but it seems as though all is OK. Got woken from my sleep on Friday night with severe cramping which seemed to pass then on Saturday night when lying in bed I had what felt like braxton hicks inside but no external signs as I used to go rock hard for dd. When I went to A&E all I wanted was for them to doppler or something so that I knew all was well but after bloods, prodding, 2 doctors and a stethescope? they said it was fine and it was my scar tissue stretching from my old c-section.
Off work yesterday with conjunctivitis and off to the doctor today with a dodgy mole I've had 3 removed before so am very conscious of them.
Hope everyone else is well!

spangles · 05/07/2005 14:17

Hi Ladies
Hope your all well today. Rachey I dont do ironing either... I always thought that made me a bit of a slob but the more people I talk to the more people tell me they don't bother either. My SIL never irons (unless she is going out somewhere special) she just folds it up straight off the washing line or out of the drier.
I have decided I am going to ask for the blood test that gives you a risk factor for downs when I go to next ante natal in 2 wks. I havent bothered with last 2 pregnancys but I keep thinking I am not getting any younger. I know that they can give false positives but can they give you a false low risk result?
Georgie I agree maternity clothes are soooo comfy even if they do trail on the floor and get damp round the hem.
Its our wedding aniversary on 14th july so hoping to get out foor a meal somewhere that weekend but it will be somewhere informal like a country pub... well thats if I have my way... If I left it up to DH it would be MacDonalds!!!
My DSs are 4.5 and 1 so there is not much chance of bribing them to do any housework, but eldest DS might tidy up his toys if I am lucky

Chuffed · 05/07/2005 15:50

Minimal ironing here too, dh does his shirts for work, I do an occasional shirt and the odd skirt or pair of trousers that don't come out of the wash/drying rack smooth enough.
Well the doctor wasn't happy with the mole either so I'm off to have it removed by dermatologist on Saturday lunch time. Since it's on my thigh looks like not a lot of gym for me for a while which is a bummer.

GeorgieM · 05/07/2005 18:47

Jeez. Chuffed, take it easy my love. Glad all OK with bubs, but maybe a few days of TLC and ice cream wouldn't go amiss? And really hope all goes OK with mole removal.

Ironing, what's ironing??! God bless my cleaning lady! She even cleaned out the fridge for me as something had crawled in there and died and DP, bless his masucline heart, couldn't work out what it was. Turned out to be petrified peice of chicken - puke!!!!

DD is starting tidy toys.... with bribery from a sticker chart! They are brilliant! Every child should have one!

Am also organising our 'shotgun wedding'! It'll be on 2nd Sept (close family and few friends). Invites, flowers, cake, dress..... all going round in my head. Have decided not to attempt wedding dress as will look like dolly on loo roll. Have asked dress maker to come up with something.... here's hoping!

Once again I've written a novel. Hope y'all are well and bubs are safe and cosy. Take care.

lyra41 · 05/07/2005 21:49

Back to work today for me, and a long day it was too. Left home at 8.15 and didn't get home til 6.15, probably not that long for most, but I'm used to about 8 - 4 normally. I'm glad I only work 3 days. It's all I can do to keep up with the washing and shopping with 2 child free days to do it in, I don't iron either btw, apart from for weddings and the like.

Ds (age 12) is off on a school trip to France tomorrow evening, they set off at 12 midnight and drive to Portsmouth, then return from France on Monday afternoon. It'll be the longest he's been away without either of us, hope he has fun. It sounds like an action packed interary and he's with friends, so he should be OK. We packed tonight and discovered a stash of dirty washing in his bedroom, hence the washing machine is going now, and hopefully it'll all be dry and ready to go in the case tomorrow. In some ways I'm looking forward to a break from his adolescent temper tantrums for a few days, but I think I'll miss him too. He's a darling really.

Rachey - what's your jewellery like?
DD cooked the tea for us all as I was late home tonight - we're trying to get the children to do a few chores in anticipation of less time for me doing them when baby comes. We had cheesy beans on toast followed by strawberries and cream. Yum. And she did very well, even if the kitchen looked like a complete bomb site when she'd finished - it often looks that way after I cook too!

Ds stacked the dishwasher, but he seemed to require a lot more persuasion than dd. Maybe he'll enjoy cooking more. We'll see when it's his turn - only once a week, so hopefully we're not being too strict with the chores.

Chuffed - sorry to hear about your time in A and E and the worries that must have caused. Glad the baby's OK, but take it easy, you'll still be getting over the shock of it all.

Sorry about the epic novel tonight, I obviously need to unload!

spangles · 06/07/2005 11:42

Georgie I had a shotgun wedding back in 2000 when 6 mths pg with DS1. I didnt want any fuss so we just took our parents to register office and got hitched quietly. 5th wedding aniversary next week. Hope it all goes well. I didnt want a wedding dress so just chose a nice dress from J Taylor at Debenhams and my mum insisted I had some fresh flowers so I got a lovely big boquet of lillies to hide the baby bump
Good luck

Rachey1969 · 07/07/2005 08:26

Chuffed - poor you, it sounds like you're having a really rough time, hope you're managing to take it easy - I have a mole that only appears when I'm pregnant!

Georgie - congratulations on your forthcoming nuptials - how exciting, I love a wedding!

Lyra - dp gave me a matching necklace and bracelet - silver chain with a diamond studded heart - very nice and minimalist, not too pretty, goes with everything.

Officially I'm 14 weeks now and for the last week or two, I HAVE FELT MOVEMENTS! Now, I know I shouldn't do until I'm 16 weeks but it is definitely those little flutters and gurgles Or do I just have really bad indigestion...?

spangles · 07/07/2005 08:50

Good morning
Rachey.. I thought I felt a slight movement but then decided I must be imagining it
Go for dating scan on mon 18th july, it will be first scan of this baby that DH has seen.
Off to the Drs this morning... think DS1 might have chicken pox. Oh well at least I dont ave to rush to get ready for nursery.

sweetkitty · 07/07/2005 09:46

13 weeks today!!

Think the sickness is going although still have no appetite (had bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes for dinner last night ) no bump as yet just spare tyre (or 2) clothes still fitting ok. Have officially finished breastfeeding DD, she has been so good straight onto a beaker no fuss. Am still hiding boobs from her for a month. Only 6 months till I have another one to feed.

DD is climbing and cruising everywhere, and falling over quite regularly too, the child is covered in bruises!

Chuffed · 07/07/2005 15:44

just got home from Central London - believe it or not walked in this morning to get dd her 'measles' vaccination as the tube was shut due to 'power failure'. Got into right near Russel Sq near Great Ormond St station before I found out what had happened and got home with dh about 45mins ago after we walked home together. He works near Morgate and thank goodness he didn't have to drop dd at nursery this morning or he would have been on the tube when all this happened.
Hope everybody you know is well...it has totally freaked us out and neither of us want to catch a bus or tube now. Looks like an hour walk for me both ways now to work.

spangles · 07/07/2005 16:15

Chuffed Hope your okay my thoughts are with you. My brother works in central london ad he has just got home about half an hour ago. He walked from Liverpool st station to hackney and I think he must have got a bus or train from there to walthamstow. It was a scary couple of hours til we heard from him and at that time he was waiting to ear from his wife but alls well with them thank god whichis more than can be said for the poor people who lost their lives today.
Its a sad world we live in when these sort of things happen here. Hope your DD is ok too.
But looking on the bright side Chuffed.. your legs will be well prepared for the long walk with all the spinning and gym work you do!!
